Monster icarplay review...

I went out last night to Best Buy and bought the Monster icarplay for use with my ipod nano 4g.
There were a few different options as far as fm transmitters, but I felt that the charging capabilities of the Monster was the obvious choice.
After shelling out $80 plus tax... I got into the car and plugged it in. Right off the bat there was no sound. I reset the ipod and tried again.
The Monster icarplay does indeed work with the nano but...
The sound quality is very poor. There is a hiss no matter what station I choose to broadcast over. The hiss is quite loud in between songs. The volume of the music from the ipod is very low. I had to turn the stereo up really loud just to hear the music. On CD or Tuner, the volume is way loud. Now it is not the stereo, I have a Pioneer premier series that sounds awesome, but for the ipod to sound like a bad radio station it is not worth the money.
Another problem with this set up is just the inconvenience. To get into the car, plug in the icarplay into the cig lighter. Then attach the ipod, find a clear station, press play, adjust the volume on the stereo so I can hear it. By the time i get a song to play, I am late for work.
Then to have to deal with the clutter of the wires and where to put the ipod. Then when i get to work I have to unplug everything and take the ipod.
I will be returning the icarplay to Best Buy today and getting $80 worth of new music and blank cd's to burn

I couldn't disagree more with you. My icarplay transmitter works perfectly and the sound is good, as good as you would expect an FM transmitter sound to be. You are making it sound much more complicated then it is. I have the station I listen to my ipod on saved on my stereo and in the Transmitters memory and all I have to do is turn my radio to that preset and press play on my ipod. Takes all of a minute even less when I use my steering wheel controls.
There is no hiss or interference whatsoever when i'm using mine and the sound level is fine.Sounds like it is you car, I have seen a correlation between older cars and having trouble with FM transmitters. A lot of people in big cities also have problems using FM transmitters because of the lack of free stations.
I don't really see what you are expecting with the wire, you saw that it has a wire when you bought. I put my ipod in my center cup holders, out of the way and all is good I can even switch songs easily without having to look at it. Unplugging it is not a problem either, you just unplug the ipod and leave the transmitter plugged into the lighter.
You are making this sound so much harder and more complicated then it is.
It's a great device, works much better then my wireless Belkin one and matches the color scheme of my car not that that matters lol. I don't think it is worth 80+ dollars so I bought one on ebay for 40 bucks brand new.

  • Monster iCarPlay Cassette adaptor problem, please help???

Yesterday I got my Monster iCarPlay Cassette adaptor...
And as the most people here I can't wait to try it out in my car, so I connect it to my iPod (nano) and put the cassette in my radio, I turn up the sound, but it's very quiet, putted everything on max and it's still very quiet...
    I don't think that's normal?
I've taken my radio out and checked the back of it, but everything seems to be normal connected...
And i also tried it in other cars who's having the same problem and with the MP3-player of my sister, but the problem is still there.
So my question to you guys is: Does anyone know what the problem could be?
    Greetings

PS: my excuses for my bad english

it's a feature of cassette players that stops the tape when it reaches the end automatically. I found out that my cassette player doesn't work but thanks for replying.

  • Monster iCarPlay FM Transmitter "recharger not supported"

I recently bought the Monster iCarPlay fm transmitter because I love the fact it recharged my iPod while it used the FM Transmitter. Usually FM Transmitters drain your iPod battery very quickly. However when I plug my iPod in a message pops up on my iPod screen that says "recharger not supported." I was wondering if there is any way around this because that was my sole purpose for buying this transmitter. Here's the website:

Or buy a newer model that supports your iPod Nano.

  • Static when backlight turns off on Monster icarplay

hey, about two days ago my 30 g ipod started to become have a lot of static when i played it in my truck with my monster icarplay.i have the volume on the ipod set to about 80% and it is on a good frequency. the music sounds fine when the backlight of the ipod is on, but as soon as the light turns of the music becomes staticy. i've restarted the ipod several times and nothing has worked except to keep the backlight on all of the time when i am driving. Please help.

Don't be in too big a hurry to pick on the PMU. It could be a problem with impedance in the power circuit either inside the Powerbook or outside, like SuperSizeIt found with his surge suppressor. If your power line voltage is /i always /i at least the minimum specified on the AC adaptor, then check the following: are the contacts on the power cord clean? If not, polish them with a pencil eraser. Does the problem occur on every outlet, or just some? (Sometimes old outlets get corroded, especially in buildings with humidity problems.)
If AC power is not the problem, then remove the battery and inspect the contacts on the battery and inside the Powerbook. If there is a film or other contamination on them, gently remove it with a white pencil eraser. If there is significant corrosion on the battery, it's time to get a new one. A weak battery can also cause the problem.
Explanation: during high current operations such as reading an optical disk, excess resistance in the power circuit may cause the internal 12 volt supply to drop out of regulation faster than the battery controller can pick up the load. The inverter output voltage will then go below the level the backlight (fluorescent tube) needs to stay on. It then requires an inverter restart (extra high-voltage pulse) to reignite the backlight tube. The fast way to get an inverter restart would be to press the power key, then after the beep, press "s" to put the computer to sleep. Wake it up, and the display should relight.

  • Three Questions Re: Monster iCarPlay FM Transmitter

    1. Is it worth the price? Its twice the cost of the Belkin TuneCast. Is the sound quality that much better?
    2. Whats the difference between the iCarPlay and the iCarPlay Plus?
    3. Is price wasnt an issue, what would be the FM transmitter of choice?
    Thanks!!

to be fair, i don't have either unit, but... i've read a number of really strong reviews of the kensington digital FM transmitter. like the monster, it plugs into the cigarette lighter, so you're not using battery power. (this is either a plus or a minus, depending on whether you ever want to transmit away from your vehicle.) but after quite a lot of research, it appears that the kensington is almost universally hailed for the quality of transmission. i've been an itrip user for years, and have tried to keep up with the latest advancements, and i've never seen an FM transmitter get such uniformly high ratings for sound quality, so i'm thinking it has to be really good. you might want to look into it. retails for about $75, but you can find it online for more like 50.

  • Incompatibility of Ipod (4th) with iCarPlay Wireless+

Have 2001 S80 Volvo (no comments pls) and a new 4th gen iPod Nano. Got Monster iCarPlay Wireless+, which said it would play and charge at same time. Plays great, but nano gives me a message it will not charge with this accessory. Found other items saying same thing, but am afraid to "go there" and wind up in same boat. Don't want hardwire adapter for the car. Anyone know a product that will work, and secondly, why the one I have will not work? I'm not an electrical guy, but suspect there is something in the nano that says "No" to a 12 volt electrical system. btuc.

  • Monster FM Transmitter not working OS3.0

Last week I bought the Monster iCarPlay Wireless Plus. It was working perfectly fine when I was 2.2.1 but since I upgraded to 3.0 It stopped working. When I connect it the transmitter the charge screen flashes on and off, almost as if I'm unplugging/plugging the power cord rapidly. Is it possible that it's broken or did the new update just rendered it useless?

Mine connects to the radio with out any problems on my iphone 3gs. However, it no longer allows me to charge the phone.

  • Half my accessories won't charge my 3rd Gen Touch?!

So I just received my new iPod Touch 3rd gen the other day, and half the accessories I used for the 1st gen won't charge it. I get the message that "this accessory won't support charging" or something to that effect. This includes an APPLE wall charger for iPod!
What gives here? So far my iHome alarm clock, and my Monster FM transmitter won't charge the Touch. They will play music, but no charge. Weirdly, the iHome iH27 portable model with the Apple dock does charge, and thankfully so does the Apple dock, which I use to play music and videos thru my home theatre setup.
Is there something I'm missing that I need? Or was this deliberate for some reason?
    Thank you.

I'm having the exact same problem and unfortunately did not know anything about it until this morning when I tried plugging my new iTouch 3G into my Bose SoundDock and my Monster iCarPlay auto charger and got the "Charging is not supported with this accessory" message. I googled it and found out that the problem started over a year ago when Apple came out with the iTouch 2nd gen. They changed the way it charges -- used to be compatible with firewire charging, but now is only compatible with USB charging. More info at: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/apple-ipod-touch-second-generatio n-8gb-16gb-32gb/P5
I called Apple and spoke to a so-called "apple expert" who kept telling me my iTouch should work with the Bose system because that's what it says on the apple website: http://store.apple.com/us/product/TS836VC/A?fnode=MTY1NDA1NA&mco=MTA4NDM1NDY But as we all know, it doesn't work and Apple has obviously not bothered to update their website or train their "experts."
There's nothing we can do but buy new accessories or return the iTouch. Very disappointing. Here's a link to the same discussion forum for all the iTouch 2nd gen users with the same problem: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1707274&tstart=0
Wish I had some better news for you, but in my opinion, it's just another typical non-customer friendly move by Apple...

  • Error message: "FireWire connections are not supported.  To transfer songs"

I recently purchased a Monster iCarPlay to play my ipod in my car. I have had no problems until recently. Upon disconnecting my ipod from the iCarPlay wire, I the following message popped up: "FireWire connections are not supported. To transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided." It also prompts me to click the center button to dismiss the message. However, I'vd followed these instructions, and the message does not go away. Does anyone know what I can do to resolve this problem? Or is it anything to worry about?

That is the message you see when you attach a 5th gen iPod to a computer using FIREWIRE. so... i suspect that for some reason, the 3rd party iCarPlay device must be confusing the iPod into thinking it is being docked or attached to a data line of some type and not simply charging.
As for the sudden occurrence of the message, it does seem strange however, keep in mind that you are using a 3rd party device that may not be supported or endorsed by Apple at all.

  • My itunes are not playing from my iphone through my car radio

Just tried hooking up my iphone3 to car radio to listen to my itunes (using the cassette adaptor from Best Buy) through the car radio.

  • Wich one of these or any FM Transmitter's work with a NANO?

I am looking for a good FM Transmitter and i saw this Monster iCarPlay Wireless FM Transmitter for Apple iPod with Dock Connection at Best Buy and i was woundering if it will work with a NANO, this transmitter is Ipod Mini compatible.
If not then there's also the iCarPlay without the Dock Connection, then there's also a Griffin iTrip mini FM Transmitter for Apple iPod mini and Belkin TuneBase FM Transmitter for Apple® iPod mini.
So which one of these would you reccomend and are they even compatible with the NANO?
If they are compatible then i would like one from the 3 i have listed above since i can get a really good price on them at my work.
    Thanks in advance.

Whoa, nelly! Hold up. The iTrip will NOT work. If the transmitter uses the remote port then it will not work with the nano. The nano does not have this port. The iTrip uses this port - it's how the iTrip gets power.
The other transmitters do not use this port. They should work. If you have questions and want a definitive answer email the companies. In my experience the people at Griffin are REALLY nice and sort of amusing. I don't know about monster or belkin but I'd bet they'll answer your questions, too.
I'm waiting for griffin to make an FM transmitter for the nano, too.
The monster one looks like it will work.

  • Using Griffin iTrip in Denver area?

My daughter is thinking of purchasing an iTrip for her iPod mini, to use in her car. Anyone have exp using one in the Denver area with any luck?
I had one back in the Green Bay area years ago, and it didn't work very well as Green Bay is situated right where many radio markets overlap at the edge of their signals, so there was never a good empty freq to use. Not sure about the Denver area...
    Thanks!

I don't use the iTrip but use the Monster iCarPlay FM transmitter and there are a few stations that I use just fine like 90.1, 91.7, etc.
Oh yeah, I live in Denver too

  • Help! Nano problem with car stereo transmitters

We've bought 2 different FM transmitters from Best Buy - were told either would work with the Nano. Both did work with the Mini, but we get total silence when we connect the Nano. Took one back - still have the Griffin model. Anyone else having this problem?

There's a problem some here have reported (and I've experienced once) in which the nano won't output sound through the dock connector without a reset.
    From the support site:
"Reset your iPod by toggling the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, and then turn it off again). Then press and hold the Center and Menu buttons for at least 6 seconds, until the Apple logo appears."
Give that a try and if it doesn't work, it may need to be replaced. Note that only the FM transmitters that work with the dock connector will probably work with the Nano. I know the Monster ICarPlay does work, as I use it with my nano frequently.

  • FM Transmitter/Car Charger Compatibility

Apple Store item description indicates Monster iCarPlay 200 is compatible with 3rd Gen Nano. Purchased...didn't work on my iPOD, but did work on neighbors older gen. iPOD. Talked to Monster Technical and they said iCarPlay 200 was not compatible with 3rd Gen iPOD and that they had no other transmitters that were compatible. Can someone confirm that they have an FM Transmitter/Car Charger that is compatible with a iPOD Nano 8gb 3rd Gen. Obviously, I am a bit reluctant to trust Apple Store descriptions indicating compatibility.
    Thanks Paul

    I recommend this FM Transmitter:

I'm using this one with my iPod nano 3G. It works great!

  • 1st gen touch crashes with car chargers

I have a 16gb 1st generation iPod Touch. It has recently started crashing when I plug it into any car charger (I've tried multiple). When I plug it in, the screen will flicker static or weird colors, it will play static over the speakers if they're on, and then it'll crash. It then won't start for a couple of minutes, and when it does it is almost dead, regardless of whether or not it was fully charged before the crash. It still works fine when I plug it into a computer via the apple USB cable.
One of the cables I've tried is the Monster iCarplay. The iPod port I'm using when this is all happening the 30-pin port at the bottom.
My iPod is past warranty, so I'm not sure what to do or if its fixable. If no one has any ideas I'll most likely resort to buying a new head unit with a USB input for my car, and just never using the damaged pins. But any ideas?

there are a few websites that repair ipods all you do is ship it to them and they will let you konw what is wrong with it and give you the option of repairing or sending it back to you,i hope that helps.
