Monster Screen Cleaner on an antiglare screen

I know, I know. You're only supposed to use water when cleaning a MacBook Pro screen.
I have a late 2011 15" with a hi res antiglare screen. Water was fine for a while, but I was recommded Monster Screen cleaner for both my MacBook and my LCD TV. I had heard that it was quite safe from several sources, so I used the supplied microfibre cloth moistend with Monster to gently clean my MacBook screen.
At first it looked great. Now that it has dried, I notice a "vignette" around the edges of my screen: the edges that meet the bezel are darker where I didn't reach with my cloth. With light on my screen, I can easy see where I wiped with Monster, and there are some subtle streaks across the surface where I wiped.
Moreover, to my eyes, there is more glare from direct light over the general surface than in the un-wiped corners. So my question is: do antiglare MBP screens have an antiglare coating? Could I have removed this with a gentle wipe with Monster solution? I supposed I assumed that the antiglare propery was simply the matte surface of the screen, to be contrasted with the glossy layer on stock MacBooks.
I am incensed, because many parties including Mac professionals have recommended this stuff to be safe and effective.
Has anyone had a similar experience with their antiglare screen?

All I can relate to you is that I use Windex Electronics cleaner (NOT regular Windex) using a small microfiber cloth to apply it and a large one (12"x15") to wipe it with great success.  No film, spots or residue.  I recommend it and I receive no compensation from the manufacturer.
Ciao.

  • Best way to clean 2010 MBP antiglare screen

    Hi guys,
Anyone got any tips on the best way to clean the antiglare screen on 2010 MBPs?
I have a couple of fingerprint smudges etc. on it but haven't wanted to attempt to clean it with anything as I don't know much about the surface of the screen (and therefore what might potentially ruin it!)
    Thanks!

Do not use any cleaning agents other than pure (preferably distilled) water, so no residue is left.
Have 2 soft cloths. Dampen one, wipe the screen with it in even up/down motion, and then immediately dry up the screen with the dry cloth, so no streaks are left. Do not rub too much, just gently mop up the thin film of water.
This works really well for finger prints and stuck dust.
If you only have a few dust specs, try compressed can of air first.

  • What can I clean off the drive?

I'm doing some hard drive cleanup. I found sequnces of files of the form:
    applemobiledevicesupport #.#.#.#
    itunes #.#.#.#
    quicktime #.#.#.#
Can I safely delete the early versions of these files leaving the most current?
    Thanks

What do you mean "about covers"?  The apple article says you should use a lint free cloth that is damp with water.  It says never apply the water directly to the device apply it to the cloth first.
I use monster screen clean to clean all my electronics.  I use it on the cases of my electronics, the keyboards, trackpads, screens, body, etc.  Works well, never damaged my devices.

  • MBP, Windex, and "seepage"

    Hi all,
I cleaned the glossy screen of my (new) MBP yesterday using (non-ammonia) Windex. This has been a safe option on my Dell laptop, which also has a glossy screen.
Unfortunately, the cleaner almost immediately seeped in behind the display and has left horrible distortions on the display. I fear my screen is now ruined.
This is my first Mac and it's very disappointing that the construction of a "top quality" device doesn't prevent this from happening - why isn't there a silicon bead/seal around the display? I guess it's doesn't matter.. spilt milk.
Is it correct that AppleCare doesn't cover (or care) for user induced damage? Does anyone know how much I can expect to pay for a screen replacement? and how long it might take? Mine is the new LED display.
Appreciate any feedback. Sorry for the negativity, just really bummed at the situation - my MBP is less than a month old.
    Steve

Actually... non-ammonia Windex probably won't do much harm... if used properly. You really shouldn't use any ammonia based cleaner. The most commonly recommended products are iKlean and Monster Screen Clean (both are basically the same... it's just a little easier to find the Monster one since most Radio Shacks carry it).
So far as the original posters comment "This is my first Mac and it's very disappointing that the construction of a "top quality" device doesn't prevent this from happening - why isn't there a silicon bead/seal around the display?"
This really isn't a symptom of poor design or construction. You should never spray any cleaner directly on a display. There is always a chance it will leak into the display. Some manufactures (the aforementioned iKlean and Monster Cleaner) are designed specifically for displays and produce a very very fine mist that will not typically drip if used properly... but it is still better to be safe than sorry so I would always suggest applying your cleaner to the rag/cloth and cleaning your display that way. You should also not use paper towels or tissues. You should use soft cloths specifically recommended for displays. To get off a little dust now and then, microfibers clothes do a great job.
Hopefully your insurance will cover the damage. Let us know how you make out.

  • Preventing scratches, black, white... what to do

As great looking as the black is, I wonder whether I'd be sorry I didn't get the white if it looks less scratched over time than the black. I've been reading so many complaints about scratching.
And which case would give it the most protection and keep it looking new? So many reviews say the cases scratch the iPod. So, you guys, are you happy with what you chose or what would you get if you knew then what you know now?

Just use whatever case you like as long as it protects. I like the ones from speckproducts best. The biggest rule that I follow is NEVER clean the screen with anything but the proper cleaner. If it gets dusty do NOT wipe it with your shirt, cloth, etc. Anytime I touch the screen I use a microfiber cloth with cleaner (I use monster screen cleaner.....about the same as iklear but available easily for me....alcohol free cleaner as recommended in the manual.) I clean it about once every 2 weeks, other than that it remains in its case. Still looks beautiful and I have had it since the first week of release. They just require a little care and they will stay looking good for quite awhile. Hope this helps. Just my 2 cents.

  • IMac Packaging

Can anybody tell me the dimensions of the box the New iMac 24" is?

    Hi Phil:
As to one or the other CPU, personally I upgrade my machines when I just can't get by with the older version anymore. With Apple's push to universal binary and increased processing loads placed on today's content rich world, I went ahead and popped for the maxed-out 2.8 GHz. The only thing I didn't get is the TB drive as I just can't imagine using this much storage in my current usage plans...lol, what is the saying, the more you have the more you need? Mind you, I don't do any video editing which chews through storage.
Absolutely get the 24". When I took it out of the box, I remember saying, F*! That's a motherf*ing monster screen! But now with a few month's usage, I want more real estate. That said, it is a real joy to use. And get as much RAM as you can afford...go on, don't pay your rent this month and get 2.8 GHz and 4MB RAM custom build and tested (??) at the factory, and guaranteed, and forget about it.
Also bear in mind that as soon as you buy your box, a week later there will be a processor upgrade!!!!
Have fun, and despite a few foibles, the new iMac is a triumph of engineering... and it is so quiet!!!! Also, I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but when you run your fingers over the anodized aluminum surface, you get a really cool subtle electrical tingle...unless mine isn't grounded!?!?!
    Best,
    Steve

  • FSB 225 x 5ht = beyond 219 prob with Winni 3000+

Just for eveyone, I am new to both AMD and MSI.  However, I made some changes to my bios and have posted to 230 x 5ht but system won't stay up for long (I have value ram so if someone could test what I did with better ram (before I decide to buy better ram or a different mobo  ), I could verify that it's my ram and not the board that keeps me from going higher at a stable state).
Before, I could only post to 219 when voltage settings were set at auto which defaults to mem at 2.7v, cpu at 1.4v and nf4 at 1.5v.  Since I am not sure I care about frying my system at this point, I raised my voltages to the maximum "safety" high performance level in the bios (yellow is high performance and not blinking red range) for memory, cpu & chipset.  I am prime95 stable at 220x5ht mult/220x9cpu mult with my value ram but am only prime95 stable for about 2 hours at 225x5h tmult/225x9 cpu mult.
I also read up on the tRas setting (I am not an engineer so I really don't know what this stuff really means) and in some of the threads it states at higher FSB speeds mem tRas timing should be set at the tRcd + tRp + 2 (or +3) = final tRas setting or it turns out it can be a problem with the winni AMD chip/hypertransport memory controller.  So I set my value ram back to its spd level which is 2.5,3,3,8 and also did the following (had it at 2.5,3,3,7):
Below are my system and settings:
MSI K8N Neo Plat SLI bios 3.1, winni 3000+, Corsair VS 2x512 set at 2.5,3,3,8, MSI 6600GTx1 PCIe, Seagate SATA NCQ HD, NEC 3520 DVD, monster cable clean powerstrip
    mem 2.70v, cpu 1.4v + 6.6% vid, nf4 1.65v : 450w psu = +3.3v@28A, +5V@50A, +12v@18A, -12V@1A, [email protected], [email protected] (with 20 to 24 pin connector)
    everest mem read=6213, write=2412, latency=44.9ns, sys temp 39c, cpu temp 41c, hd temp 39c, gpu temp 48c, 3DMark05=3971, PCMark04=4145, Prime95 only 2hr at 225
I did try lowering the nf4 voltage to 1.6v but as soon as I did the mobo didn't post at all and I had to hit the cmos reset button.  I haven't tested any other settings yet but would like to know if someone with the 219 bug and better ram could check this out if it hasn't been done before...

I took some time to test and did lower the settings to 4 ht mult but am only stable at 220x9 with this corsair value ram (1:1).  I did go higher to 239x9 with memclock set at 10:9 and 253x9 with memclock set at 6:5 (and my little winni did post a few times at 289x9 (2.6 Ghz ultimate goal yeppie -  ) but cannot get my mem stable at those speeds even with a 1ht mult setting).
I have tested ht mult settings at 5x, 4x and 3x and tested, retested, coldbooted, warmbooted....
I am finding what others have posted in that on a coldboot, the 5ht and 4ht locks (sometimes yes, sometimes no, its weird because its never consistent) at the 220x9 setting and never locks at 3ht mult.  The 239x9 setting at the 3ht mult never locks and at the 253 setting, the 3ht locks (sometimes yes, sometimes no on coldboot).  I have set cpu at 1.4v + 3.3% vid, mem at 2.7v and nF4 chipset at 1.65v.
I have some extra $ now but am reluctant to buy another video card for the SLI, better memory or anything else until this bios thing is fixed...also it seems to be a lot of risk flashing a beta bios as some others have tried but I am tempted...also emailed to MSI and asked them the time frame for a fix and told them that 3 months going on 4 now is a long time for an updated bios with a new board    .  I may end up doing that every day until I get some kind of answer (skweakie wheel sometimes gets the grease).
Have to say though that I am getting a good oc on the MSI 6600gt pcie video card...
    K8N Neo4 SLI & winni 3000+ oc 220x9 and 3ht mult, nf4=1.65v, cpu=1.4v+3.3 vid (used ntune)
MSI 6600GT x1 oc 570/1.14 Ghz with nVidia Drivers only (used ntune)
    Corsair valueram 512x2 oc 200:200 2.5,3,3,8 2.7v
    Seagate NCQ, NEC DL 3520
    200x9 3DMark05 = 3561  PCMark04 = 3707 baseline, no oc
    220x9 3DMark05 = 4025  PCMark04 = 4071
    239x9 3DMark05 = 4045  PCMark04 = 4373
    253x9 3DMark05 = 4039  PCMark04 = 4536

  • Screen protector required for 15" antiglare screen?

    Hi all
I've just upgraded my 2005 15" MBP to the latest unibody 15" MBP with the high-resolution antiglare screen (what a gorgeous machine it is too!), and I'm wondering whether I need to keep a soft cloth / protector between the keyboard and the screen? Over time the keys of my previous (non-unibody) MBP have permanently marked the screen
I imagine the glossy-screened MBP's wouldn't have this problem, but as the antiglare is the same 'soft' material as the old matt-screened MBP's, will I experience the same problem? Or are the keys held further away from the screen on the new unibody models?
    Many thanks for your help
    David

I just got one of those, too, Hogster86. I didn't need a protector with my 2006 15" MBP. So, I would make a guess that if your old screen was marked by the key, you'd probably do well to use a screen protector for this one. It would be safest, and yeah, you don't want to mess up that beautiful display!
The MBP comes with a protector in there, if you've still got it. Or, check at your favorite computer store for one of those microfiber cleaning cloth kits. Some of them come with a thick, chamois-like cloth specifically for use between your keys and screen.

  • Best way to clean imac screen...

    Hi...
wondering the best way to clean the imac screen - first time i have had a lcd screen
    thanks

    Nick,
The user guide recommends that one dampen a lint free cloth with water and use it to clean the screen. There are a few commercial products that work well, including Monster iClean and iKlear. Be sure to avoid any product with alcohol or ammonia. Also, whether you use water or a cleaning product, spray the cloth, not the screen directly.

  • Tips on cleaning your macbook screen?

Ive had ipod/macbook cleaners.. even the monster product and I JUST HAD to throw out  ahuge bottle that cost me 50$ that i never used because it was to big to carry on the airplane! im broke what are some good ways? thanks!

    Just in case:
"Cleaning your MacBook Pro When cleaning the outside of your MacBook Pro and its components, first shut down your MacBook Pro and unplug the power adapter. Then use a damp, soft, lint-free cloth to clean the computer’s exterior. Avoid getting moisture in any openings. Do not spray liquid directly on the computer. Do not use aerosol sprays, solvents, or abrasives that might damage the finish.
Cleaning your MacBook Pro screen To clean your MacBook Pro screen, first shut down your MacBook Pro and unplug the power adapter. Then dampen the included cleaning cloth with just water and wipe the screen. Do not spray liquid directly on the screen."

  • Why do grid marks apear on my screen when I clean it

I'm trying to figure out why everytime I clean my macbook pro screen there are these grid marks like checker board that apear? FYI my screen is not the antiglare one.

Hi, Did you ever figure out the reason for this?
I have noticed the same on the upper part of my screen and have called Apple who have asked me show it in a store.
It is not really effecting the use of my Macbook Pro as I don't notice anything while using it but still want to know if there might have been prior damage to the screen during packaging which could effect the Macbook later.
    Thanks,

  • Aluminum imac screen cleaner

    Hi
I bought some monster iclean and wanted to know if it's safe to use it to clean my aluminum imac glass screen?
In the instruction manual it says use water only on the screen but one other brand of cleaner, iklear says its for the new imacs(aluminum) but I cant find anything about monster iclean.
    Message was edited by: c.creature

iClean is a very good product for cleaning all computer displays. I've used it on my iMac screen, PB screen and touch screen. iKlear is also a very good product. Make sure you use the included cloth with either product and not a paper towel.

  • This monster case scratched the **** out of my iPod screen!!!

    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=T87 02LL/A
    That's right...
I'm so careful with my 60 GB Black iPod. And lately I've noticed crazy scratches all over the screen and I just figured out that it's from that monster case. See on the opposite side of where the iPod sits, when you close the case there's a monster tag - and that appears to have been the culprit. Has anyone else experienced this problem??? Please let me know that I'm not alone with this one...

The black ipod especially is prone to scratches - I've only had mine a few days and it looks as though it's been dragged behind a truck for a couple of miles - Though I've found that there is a way to fix the scratches and it's called brasso. Clean cloth, tiny bit of brasso and some elbow grease is all it takes as long as the scratches aren't deep (the ones usually caused by cases are minor and come off quite easily) - noone will even notice them - though if this doesn't work for you then look though the rest of the threads, there were a couple of other solutions to this problem floating around a couple of days ago.

  • Ive had my macbook pro for a week now and when i cleaned the screen 4 days ago i found a little chip in the screen so the computer was definitely chipped at the manufacture or at the store but again its almost microscopic

To whom It May Concern,i have my macbook pro its a week old and after maybe 2-3 days cleaned it and noticed a little chip in the screen when the light flashed on the computer. Also my charger sometimes just dose not work ill plug it in at a different outlet then it will work its very frustrating to have this many issues i would like to see if i could get a new charger that actually works and a macbook without a tiny chip in it
