Month view help

Hello,
I am new to this whole Mac experience and am quite pleased so far but i do have a question about iCal and the way it's month view shows events. I frequently have events that span multiple days, i.e. begin at 3am on the 3rd and end at 11pm on the 5th. When iCal shows this event in "Month" view, it only puts an event on the 3rd and not one spanning the entire time as would an "all day" event. As someone coming from Microsoft Outlook, this was a great feature to have especially when events backed up to each other. Entourage does what I am asking it to do, but I'm not sure I want to pay for that...
thanks for all your help.

I have this problem too.  Just started today all of a sudden.  When I am in iCal on my Macbook, I double click - like I have been doing since ical was invented - and nothing happens, other than a quick "updating" message.  I tried clicking the "+" button but all it gives me is  "quick event" to add but nothing ever shows up in my iCal calendar on my mac.   When I log into to iCal in the Cloud - lo and behold! - I see dozens and dozens of "new event" entries all over my calendar!  What is going on and how can this be corrected?  At this point my computer's ICal program is basically now useless since I am prevented from adding anything to it.

  • LionCal help please in month view

Hi everyone, I am having some major iCal woes that I hope someone has the answer to.
Ok this is how I handle my workflow. I have numerous calendars such as "call", "viewing", "meeting", "work misc", "personal" etc. All colour coded and I use the month view as standard.
Under SL I would double click the day I add an event go through the boxes (name, location, time, etc) click save and job done.
Now under Lion when I double click a day I get an event box but only the header. So I have to type the header hit return then double click on the event again to get the box up so I can assign the event the right time and calendar to use. This is taking twice as long as it did before under SL and is a pain when you have a client on the phone. Am I missing something here? Why is it now so hard? - and I have tried that quick entry business but it doesn't work for me, I simply want the whole calendar entry box when I double click in month view.
Next problem is all new events go in as a all day event. Again another click I didn't need to do in SL. Then untick all day and enter a time LionCal doesn't set the end time 1 hour later anymore it sets it hours later for me, sometimes into the next day so I have to click into the date box and type the end date, again a massive slow down in my workflow.
Finally and most annoyingly in month view I cannot for the life of me get a 12 hour clock with AM/PM. I checked my international page in sys prefs and all is ok but LionCal is not playing ball.
Any help would be appreciated as I love iCal and run my life with it over MobileMe.

I noticed a related bug too.
When I switch my international time zone to UK British time,  my top right corner system clock works fine but in ical monthly view, the AM/PM times are all messed up, some are in 23:00 format, some in 11:00pm format. But if I wanted 24hr format everything is fine it just comes as 23:00 consistently for all times.
I was very frustrated with this too, as I wanted UK style dates like for 5th Jan 2011 --> 05/01/11, but I also wanted AM/PM in time settings, somehow in Lion, Apple won't let someone have UK date style without 24hr format.
The only workaround I found so far is to use Hong Kong setting. As Hong Kong has the same date format and also it "allows" AM/PM display!
    Please Apple, fix the bug!!

  • Printing in Month View WITHOUT time showing. Help Me!

I need to print a monthly calendar WITHOUT the start time for events showing on my printout. I've gone to preferences and de-selected the "show time in month view" box, but although times do not appear on the month view on my computer, they pop up again in print preview and when printed. How do I get rid of the darn things?
    Please help!!!! Thanks, Luana.

    musetta24,
Sorry to see that no one replied to your post back in October.
Normally when I notice that someone posted for the first time in Apple Discussions, I open my reply with - "Welcome to Apple Discussions." With my apologies for the lack of responses, please accept a belated welcome and reply to your question.
    Widowwmaker,
iCal will not print without displaying the times.
If you are willing to use the Preview application, you could take a screen shot of your preferred iCal window, and print using the Preview print menu.

  • TS1702 Help! When I am in iPad Calendar everything is fine until I try and view March in the 'month' view.  Any ideas?

Help!  In Calendar everything is fine until I try and view March in the 'month' view, as soon as I do that, it closes the app.  I can view March in 'days' and 'weeks' but not 'month'.  Ive tried switching the iPad off (several times) but the issue still exists. Any ideas?

it's a glitch. Look for and remove any all day event on april 1st. You can also change any all day event to run a few hours. That'll make march return.
If you haven't already, apparently the 6.1 update fixes this glitch. So if you have an iPad 2+ you can update the firmware and fix it that way too.

  • TS1702 help, are you having the same problem? iPad 2 calendar, can't get the month of March, can get days in March, but not month view. Any suggestions, thank u.

Hi melbernai - not sure if you've solved this problem yet. I had the exact same problem recently with my 2nd Gen iPod Nano. I solved it yesterday by simply updating iTunes to the most recent version, after which I could get rid of the register screen. The only other thing I needed to do to add my custom playlists was select "Manually manage music" on the screen for my iPod, since it had been in an automatic synching mode since the problem occurred.

  • I am using iCal 8.0 and I don't know how to include event times along side the event in the monthly view.  help.  :)

    I am using iCal Version 8.0 (2026)
I have read through responses to a similar question as I am posing, but the recommendations that I've found don't seem to be in the iCal preferences/ general tab.
Two great solutions that don't seem to be in my preferences winder are:
    1.  A respondent recommended checking the box 'show event times' on the general/ preferences tab, but that box does not appear in my window
    2.  A second response i found recommended that 'I check box for 'Show time in Month view.' in Under General/ preferences, but that option is not appear either.
    Any other thoughts please

The grouped yellow pages are a Section (Chapter).
If you have logical divisions within your documents that fall on page boundaries, do the sensible thing and actually divide them with:
Menu > Insert > Section Break
…where you want the separation. Both before and after.
Moving or removing individual pages is like ripping pages out of a book and/or reshuffling them. It makes sense to relocate or remove entire sections, which are pages connected by their content, but not the individual pages within those that have continuing text both before and after them.

  • Help: event times not printing in month view

... and yes, I have checked "show time in month view" in preferences, and the event times display on the screen. But on the monthly printout, the times do not appear, only ellipses where the time should be. There should be plenty of space for the information to print, there is white space both at the end of the event line and in the day box. But no times show up at all.
System data: Mac Mini, OS X 10.4.2, iCal 2.0.3 (1055), Brother MFC 7820N printer.
This is really awful... I just switched my wife over to the Mac Mini, and calendaring is a big part of what she needs. And she uses month views a lot. If I can't fix this, she'll probably throw the Mac Mini back in my face and I'll be sleeping on the couch. Yes, she cares that much about times printing in month views.
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I don't know whether this a "solution" or a work-around, but I did find a way to resolve this problem. I recently started using iCal by transferring appointments from a BlackBerry using the BlackBerry PocketMac software. Although all of the appointment times appeared on the monthly calendar, most of the appointment times were replaced by ellipses when the monthly calendar was printed. It turns out that the times would print only after re-entering the appointment manually. This had to be done completely from scratch, i.e., not by editing the original appointment, or by cutting and pasting the appointment back into the calendar. This is a complete pain, but seems to work. I'd love to hear a better solution...

    Hi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Quit iCal and find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your user's Library/Preferences Folder. Delete this file and then open iCal again.

  • Can I show a color bar instead of a color bullet in iCal Monthly view for all my events in all calendars?

In the Monthly view of iCal the only events that show a color bar in the event is the Birthday Calendar. All other events in all my other calendars only show a color bullet next to the event (unless I click on that event which then shows as a color bar). I would like to know if it is possible for all the calendar events to have a color bar in the monthly view instead of just that tiny color bullet.

    Greetings Judith,
Before making any attempts at deleting calendar data, backup what you have just in case:
Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
iCal has an automated function located in iCal > Preferences > Advanced > Delete events "X" days after they have passed.  By typing in a value for days you can tell iCal to delete all events before that time frame.
    Example:
    Today is 4-16-2012.
If I wanted to delete all events prior to 1 year ago (4-16-2011) I would type in "365" for the number of days.
Once you type in the number of days you want kept in iCal, close the preferences and then quit iCal.
Re-open iCal and check to see if the events are gone.  If not you may want to leave it open for several minutes and then quit again.
Once the events are removed go back to  iCal > Preferences > Advanced > Delete events "X" days after they have passed and make sure the check mark is removed to prevent future deletion.
    Hope that helps.

  • Sometimes I can't get out of Day view in iCal.  There is no where on the screen to select month view, even when I close it out and go back into iCal.

Sometimes I am locked in "day" view in iCal.  There is no where on the screen to choose "month" view, even when I close it out and open again.  Tapping anywhere on the screen or scrolling doesn't help.

    Give this a try:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try full screen again.
NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • OWA Calendar not showing month view in non-IE browsers

I've got a user who can't see the Month view on his OWA calendar. He's the only user complaining - Month view loads fine on my Exchange account across all browsers and operating systems.
I can see the Month view on his account when I log in with IE, but not with any other browser, Windows and Mac.
Any ideas? I'm at a total loss here, I've been in and deleted recurring appointments, but nothing else looks out of the ordinary. Everything else works, it just won't load the month view in non-IE browsers and he's the only one affected.
    Any clues appreciated, thank you!

    Hi,
The Microsoft OWA web interface has two versions: OWA Premium and OWA Light. OWA Premium which can achieve calendar month view is only accessible when using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser.
If you’re using any other browser, we can use OWA Light. In light version, the OWA feature is not rich like OWA Premium. As for Calendar view, there is only daily view in OWA light.
About Calendar view in third-party browser, please contact the third-party browser support for more helps.

  • Can't see month view in iCloud calendar

When I click on the month view tab at the bottom of the iCloud calendar screen, nothing happens. For that matter, clicking on the day tab doesn't do anything either.
As another annoyance, in the week view I see the weeks events that were brought in from my Mac, but going to the next week shows no events. HELP!

I am having the same problem. It started when the month view was not available. It took me a long time to figure out that when I minimize the month view, it shows up on the dock as a teeny tiny icon. When I click it, nothing happens. When I go to Week View then my calendar shows up. NOW though, my week view has disappeared and now I'm only left with DAY view. The same exact thing happens in Week view. I have no window, nothing to "grab" that I can possibly see to get it back on my screen. BUT it will be a teeny tiny icon when it's minimized.
The only thing I can think of is that I'm a tech teacher using a projector and my laptop changes resolutions with different software programs. I have had iCal open when the resolution has had to change. The only thing I can think of is that somehow that did something to the window and I can't get it back.

  • Highlighting multiple days in Month View?

Hello everyone & Happy Friday All !!!
I'm new to this forum, and VERY new to using ical -
    Here's my question:
In my old method of using a calendar to do my schedule on my old PC -
I'd make a spreadsheet in MS Excel that would show me monthly views that I could highlight days,
weeks or entire months..... It's crude in comparison to ical, yet it IS effective for my needs......
I am used to highlighting either a single day or a string of days in my "month" view,
so... for example - let's say that Monday thru Thursday of next week I am going to be "out of the office in London - UK" -
I would simply highlight the four days of next week - and instead of leaving those cells "white"
like every other day in the month - I'd change those four cell's colored "fill" option from white to
bright yellow - (or any other color that signifies a specific action or function - like "green" for vacation days, or "blue" for a sick day or surgery, etc....
This way - that at a glance (literally) - I can tell that I'm "out of the office" on those days next week that are colored other than "white"..... NOTE: the ENTIRE CELL - Not Just the Day Title is colored......
(I wish I could insert a visual example of what I am trying to describe here...)
Is there a way of doing this same kind of function in ical - so that I can have an "at a glance" or
"heads up display" that I can see quickly and know I'm committed on those days next week - or
any week or group of days for that matter?
This would help me tremendously of there is a way of doing this...... Otherwise - I'll be STUCK
in the 90's using my improvised Excel Spreadsheet Calendar.....
Thanks in advance for your help
    kevin

    Welcome to the discussions, azstoneconsulting.
In iCal colours are tied to specific calendars, so make a vacation calendar and a sick calendar (you forecast your sickness? Cool) and an out of office calendar and set the colours to whatever colour suits. Then when you are going to be in London select the out of office calendar and set it to last the four days. It will show as a coloured bar across those days in month view.
