Montly/anual subscription vs perpetual licence

Is there any way to buy the perpetual license for LR or I need to enter the subscription model?

I am a long-term user of Lightroom as a standalone product with a perpetual licence. As a retired person on limited income, it is very disappointing to me that Adobe have introduced the 'Creative Cloud' (CC) subscription service in order for me to be able to continue upgrading this excellent product. It will be for me too expensive at the minimum cost of £9 per month. The additional services that CC brings are personally of no relevance or usefulness. Adobe should be prepared to support existing users who are, like myself, non commercial, amateur photographers by giving them the simple opportunity to upgrade to Lightroom 6 as a standalone, perpetual licence product. As a member of a camera club I know my co-members who use Lightroom are equally disappointed by this move to a subscription-only service.

However, Adobe will soon introduce Cloud only features into Lightroom CC for which LR6 (perpetual license) owners will have to wait until LR7 (paid upgrade).
That is possible, John, but it is only speculation on your part. Might, not will.

There is a "Lightroom 6" upgrade available for US $79 if you have a valid license for any of the earlier versions. From what I can tell, the only difference between Lightroom 6 Full, Lightroom 6 Upgrade and LightroomCC is in the license. The download file is the same.
Other differences - with CC you get LrMobile/LrWeb and they throw in a free copy of Photoshop too.
Yes, but when I bought my standalone license and clicked on the "Download" button it took me to the LightroomCC page. The downloaded file is named Lightroom 6, but in the CC app the installed program is LightroomCC (2015).

  • Invoice for perpetual licence product

I bought a perpetual licence for Lightroom 5 and now i need to receive/download the invoice for fiscal use (with VAT and so on), how can I get it?

I’m in the US but I can see this sort of thing if I login to http://www.adobe.com/ then go to Manage Account, then View All under Products & Plans, then View All Orders under the Order History section, then expand the date of my order and I’ll see a product and some financial details of the purchase including any taxes, and there’s even a Print Invoice link that creates a PDF suitable for printing.

  • Can I buy a Lightroom upgrade (from LR3) with a perpetual licence and a student discount? If so, which page do I need? Thanks.

I am trying to buy a Lightroom upgrade (from LR3) with a perpetual licence and with a student discount.
If I go the student discount route on the web U get taken to the 'cloud' options which I don't want.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
PS Is the upgrade worth it in any case??

I believe there are NO upgrades for Student and Teacher editions but you can see here: Products
If the price is the same as an ordinary upgrade you are probably better off buying that because it can be upgraded in the future.

  • How do i cancel my MUSE ANUAL Subscription?

    Please,
I need help in canceling my anual subscription! I stopped using Muse beacause I chaged work and i´m still paying.

    Try looking in the FAQ:
"You may suspend or cancel a month-to-month subscription by going to your account on Adobe.com. To cancel a one-year subscription, you must call Adobe Customer Service. If you decide to end a one-year subscription before the 12-month period is over, you will be charged 50% of the remaining amount left on your contract. Subscriptions canceled within the first 30 days will be refunded in full.
Keep in mind, if you applied your site-hosting entitlement as part of your active Adobe Muse subscription and then cancel your subscription, you will need to start paying the monthly hosting fees for this site."

  • Lightroom 6--available in both standalone perpetual licence as well as CC?

    Hi,
I'm ready to upgrade from my old licence (v2.7) to the latest Lightroom. I need a standalone version.  I've read that LR6 will be out in March 2015.  When it is released, will LR6 be in a standalone version as well as CC? Will I be able to upgrade from v2 to v6?
    Thanks!

  • Why can't Adobe offer Premiere Pro (and its other software) as a perpetual licence and via the cloud

It seems clear to me some like the cloud and others don't. Why? Customers have different requirements. Each approach offers attractions to different people. A company ignores its customers requirements at its peril. You just have to remember VHS vs BetaMax - BetaMax was far superior but it is no more. Maybe not a great comparison but the point is even great products fail. By offering both Adobe would secure a wider and happier customer base.

    Very true
I am in the UK, we have HD TVchannels but still a mass of SD ones.
4k or whatever will be a long time coming and it will be on satelite first but that is very far off
That said my camcorders/DSLR's all handle AVCHD HD so no expense there for qute a while
My PC is fast enough and I have three cloned boot drives so apart from upgrades due to MOBO/CPU failures no expense likely here
So with all the above I reckon that as long as I do not have any problems that require re-installing the Adobe software then I am good for the next 10 years
10 years of not buying Adobe products
10 years of updating Edius, Hitfilm, or even subscribing to Lightworks (10 years at $60 per year, you do the math)
That is just me not buying
Oh to have so much money, I may even go to the F1 GP next year with all I will save unless they make that subscription only

  • CC vs perpetual licence

I've read the FAQs and various other forum posts and I'm just trying to get my head around the Creative Cloud movement.
    - Am I correct in thinking that I can keep my existing purchased copy of CS6 to use whenever I like without interference from Adobe or the need for an internet connection? The cloud element is voluntary, right?
    - Can people download their CC files to send to me or will I be obliged to subscribe in order to access them?
    - If no new versions of non-cloud CS will be released after CS6, doesn't that mean that eventually, as the cloud upgrades, people will be sending me CC files that aren't retro-compatible with my existing software and I'll be forced into subscribing?
    Thank you.

    1) Yes. You’ve purchased the CS6 apps so you’ll never need to do anything with Adobe unless you need to deactivate them and reactivate them on another computer.
    2) People can send you any files they want. If they have them uploaded into the Creative Cloud file storage system they can send you a link to the files.
    3) You’ll be able to open files created in CC programs as long as the program supports newer versions. Photoshop and Dreamweaver do this, but, as is the case for Photoshop, you won’t be able to modify smart layers that utilize new features. Some programs allow you to save to previous versions, such as Illustrator, but again you’ll lose the ability to access newer features if they were used in the file. Other programs, like Premiere, only allow you to open files created in the same version or newer. So, Premiere Pro CS6 can’t open Premiere Pro CC files.
It is quite possible that people may be sending you their native CC files which means you will have to get a CC subscription if you want to open them. For some things, like print, you could technically get away with having people send you PDFs, but you’ll lose the ability to make sweeping changes to the file.

  • Upgrade CS5.5 to 6 perpetual licence - installation problem

    Hi
I have purchased and downloaded an upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6. The installation programme won't recognise my current licence despite the fact that the software is currently installed.
Anyone know what is going on here? I have all the correct serial numbers, but the installation programme doesn't offer 5.5 in the drop-down menu next to where youre supposed to put in the serial number, just CS5?
    Thanks

First question is are both versions stand-alone ID-only, or both a suite package? If you don't have a direct match between the old and new products that could be the problem -- you cannot upgrade a single component from a suite.

  • Does CC take over my perpetual CS6 licence?

I have a perpetual licence of Creative Suite 6 and am running many of its applications - InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and so on. It is working perfectly for the print-based work I do. However, I may take on a job that requires me to subscribe to InDesign CC 2014 for a month or two. Just the one-app subscription, not the full CC. When the job is finished, I will stop subscribing.
I believe I have seen discussion that CC takes over your perpetual licence (search didn't find it). One comment was that their perpetual licence "disappeared" from their Adobe registered products. Apparently, when you drop the month-to-month subscription, it kills CS6 because it has become related to the subscription, and the only solution is to do a full uninstall, use the cleaner tool, and reinstall the perpetual suite.
Can anyone confirm that this is true?
On a related note, if I buy a single app InDesign subscription, will my other CS6 apps (Photoshop, etc) stop working during the job because I haven't subscribed to the full suite?

If you buy a single app CC, you will be able to work on the CC version as well as the CS6 version.
If you own a license for CS6 you own it for life.  Machine capabilities might advance beyond being able to use it, but you always have it.
If you have a full CC subscription it includes the option to install CS6 software but that software is part of the CC subscription, so if the subscription ends so does the use of the CC-acquired versions.  Your licensed software still remains useable if you end the subscription.
As far running both CC and CS together, it should be possible, though in my case CC decided to assume control of my suite programs to an extent where it changed how they are set up.  So I can't answer regarding how things get along when you mix them in the same system.
Your Creative Cloud membership also includes access to CS6 apps. So if you ever need the CS6 version, head over to http://creative.adobe.com/, sign in, and download a CS6 app. For instructions on how to install CS6 apps see: Install CS6 app with Creative Cloud

  • Left with no software after subscription?????

You have got to be kidding me. After my magazine subscriptions expire nobody rips them out of my hands and takes them away. The only way I see this making sense for me is if Adobe implements the option of keeping the current status of the software available after subscription end. I would be fine with a minimum subscription requirement until this option is given. Nobody wants to be left without use of software in the event of financial difficulty.

There is a lot of confusion over this and hopefully, I can help clear some of it up.
Adobe will continue to sell CS6 (indefinately), and plan to update it to support the next major releases of Mac and Windows.
Most of such queries are covered in our FAQ:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/faq.html#
I'm sorry. This does not seem entirely correct. Reading what has been written by Adobe, Adobe will continue to sell subscriptions for CS6 indefinitely and the application will evolve and change as the subscription months pass and your subscription fees are collected. While Adobe seems to be glossing over this, there is a very important disiction beween subscription license model and the previously available perpetual license model.
If you purchased a perpetual licence (disc) for a CS6 product, you will most likely never see another update for that perpetual version unless it is due to a security issue. It is my understanding that perpetual license holders will not be provided with the propsed June 17th updates. Only Creative Cloud subscribers will have access to the June 17th updates.
Based on Adobe's own application naming conventions. CS6 is at the end of it's life cycle. All applications will be titled "CC" with the June 17th subscription upate. It is the CC apps which will continually evolve and change to ensure compatibility with operating systems and to add new features. I believe, Adobe themselves is causing much of this confusion by attempting to post or write market-ese in an effort to disguise some truths.
Scott I think they are saying they will update CS6 so that it runs on Windows 9 or the next MacOS, independent of subscription, but that will be it.  The update will be for security/compatibility but not for functionality.

  • Are you able to transfer an adobe send licence after purchasing

How does this work? Are licences assigned to an account? Can they be transferred?

It sounds like you are running into network configuration issues.  Please see Sign in or activation errors | CS6, CS5.5 Subscriptions, CS6 Perpetual - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-network-issues.html for common solutions to these type of difficulties.

  • Goodbye CC Subscription

Having been a loyal Adobe customer for 22 years, I have now been priced out of the market.  As such I have cancelled my CC subscription and will continue with CS6.
I am extremely miffed.  Customer Services and I agreed a revised subscription last month, only to find that I am being charged more than the we agreed because they "made a mistake".  They refuse to revert to the agreed price.
I also feel doubly miffed because it was small independent users like myself (and many here) who contributed towards Premiere becoming mainstream.  I sang its praises and personally persuaded 5 Post Houses to try it.  As a result they ditched FCP and/or Avid.
Now that many Big Boys are onboard, it seems that us small independent users are no longer worthy of Adobe loyalty.
Here's a letter I sent prior to my renegotiation - to which Adobe has not had the courtesy to reply.
    Dear Sirs
I work in the corporate media production industry as a self-employed photographer and videographer. I have been a user of Photoshop since V3: Premiere since V5 and After Effects since V5.  I have subsequently been a Production Premium subscriber for several years.  I have not owned the Master Collection because my business needs have not required that I access applications outside my immediate discipline.
In July, I believe that my introductory CC membership is set to increase from an introductory £18 (approx) to about £55 (92.50 USD) per month.  This represents a whopping 303% increase.  My business cannot justify £660 per year  - every year.  That’s almost 1,200 USD - double the cost of my Production Premium upgrade!
My core applications are Premiere, After Effects, Audition, Speedgrade, Media Encoder, Illustrator and Photoshop.  I do not use DTP, Flash, web authoring or any other Adobe application.
I am aware that I can reinstall CS6 Production Premium.  If I was retired or an enthusiast, indeed I probably would consider it.  But as a working professional, especially given the rapidly changing nature of media acquisition, this is not possible.  My clients would not find it acceptable.
You may recall that it was the small independents such as myself who evangelised Premiere in the days when the majority of houses shunned it in favour of Avid and Final Cut Pro. I personally convinced five such companies to run Premiere on their offline facilities.
With no small effort from people like myself over the past fifteen or so years, Premiere Pro CC has become accepted competition for Avid and Apple.  Now that the big players are being won over, I fear that the small independents are being kicked into the long grass.
Sure, I understand the business argument for ending the perpetual licence. But must we all pay a set cost for an identical suite of applications when our needs and wallets are so very different?
Please can you advise me how, under Adobe’s new licencing model, I can use Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Speedgrade, Media Encoder, Illustrator and Photoshop at a price that was on par with the cost of the perpetual licence for Production Premium.
If this new “one-size-fits-all” model is inflexible, please would you inform me of Adobe’s official policy regarding the placing of its products outside the reach of the small, long-term, independent user.
    Yours sincerely,

So a new feature that doesn't work the way you would hope.
And yes, it's a cool new feature. But my business is the perfect example of why the subscription model isn't worth it. I primarily shoot dance recitals. I also shoot local plays, and do some work for a local non-profit. I don't need 80% of the features/software that comes with CC. And I am a small business, just me, no other employees. Every penny I can save makes a difference. I cannot lock in to a payment that could change (and it looks like it's beginning to) whenever Adobe feels the need.
I can budget for a CS upgrade since it's a one time payment. I also can choose to NOT spend the money I've budgeted if it becomes too tight at the time of the new release.
Adobe could easily offer a perpetual license product. They simply do not want to.
    Hi Jason,
Yes a new feature that needs some polishing, but a new feature that does what it's supposed to do.
I understand your a one man show...thats the whole point of my comment. I'm not degrading your business, just pointing out that if you can't make any money at your skill, than its a hobby and you have to do what you have to do. Please don't post here that you are upset that Adobe is charging a subscription. If you can afford $1899 for CS6, which equals $150 a month for a year....the math just doesn't add up. You'd have to stay on one version for 38 months to equal $50 a month.
I don't want to argue about this, just thought that Adobe isn't trying to rip anyone off more than any other profitable business. We are subjected to paying for services every day, no matter what the service is.....hence you should be getting paid for your craft, whether its for a non-profit or the big three.

  • Lightroom asking for licence Key

I have a perpetual licence for Lightoom 5 but have just signed up to CC photographers package.
I've installed the App manager and also Photoshop etc, but lightroom said it was already up to date so did not need installed.
The problem I have is when I switch to a different user on my Mac Lightroom is now asking me to enter my licence key.
Surely, I should not have to do this as it is now part of CC, which I am logged into and Photoshop works fine.
If I enter my perpetual licence key, then lightroom is activated, but I should not have to use that key as I pay a monthly subscription and am logged in.
Do I need to update lightroom somehow to a CC version?

Can't help but think you didn't read the question properly.
I am logged in, connected fine, photoshop just works, but lightroom is asking for an activation key.
there is no option to log in, no error message.
I can buy a licence or enter an existing licence key.

  • Anyone had experience downloading Photoshop CS 6 Perpetual License from Adobe ($699)?

I read of so many people having really rough time of it downloading from a CC plan, thought I might do better to download Perpetual Licence version. Anyone?

My first name is Trevor.  By one of those strange quirks of fate, we both have Christian and Surnames that can be transposed.  So are you Hansel (She knows) or Gretel (Margaret)?
The best I can say about installation and on going issues with CC are that are no worse than CS6, and tend to be operating system dependent.  For instance, we see issue around CC and Yosemite with slow performance and lag, but as far as I am aware, only some people seem to suffer this.
On the other hand, if you are a Windows user and have a very high definition monitor or laptop, you really should think about CC because CS6 has no work around for the otherwise _very_ hard to see user interface.  If you are a Mac user, bith CS6 and all versions of CC have retina support.  But for the most part, you are every bit as likely to have issues with CS6 as CC, but don't worry about it as far and away the majority of users never have a problem, and you can always come and ask here if you do.
What country are you in?  Have you looked at the relative cost of a CS6 perpetual license verses a Creative Cloud subscription?  I understand there is still a significant difference in price between what both cost in America and parts of Europe.  That used to be true in New Zealand where I live, but thankfully I now pay the same as Adobe's USA customers.
So bottom line is please don't be put off CC for fear of issues.  The Photography deal is the bargain of a lifetime, and as I said before, the gap between CS6 is significant and getting ever wider.
