Mopria print service and cisco mDNS

Hello,
I have a customer who is trying to do printer discovery via an Android Nexus 5 running  the Mopria print service to a Mopria enabled printer and it is not showng up. The wireless he is on  is a AP2602i on a WiSM2 running 7.4.121 with mDNS enabled and multicast disabled. The Bonjour/Airprint service works fine, Ipads, Iphones, etc. can discover the Airprint enabled printers.
The strange part of this is that at another different  site on a AP1131 and WiSM running 7.0.250 and Multicast enabled it the Mopria discovery works. I have read that the Cisco mDNS on the controllers does NOT support third party apps so I turned ON multicast on the WiSM2 but that did not solve the issue. Do I need to make a mDNS service set in the controller maybe? Anyone know the service string?
Thanks!

The best way to figure out the service string is to use a bonjour discover app.  You can get one for Windows, Mac and IOS devices.  You would connect to that particular device and you will be able to see the service string and be able to add that.  If the Android and the Mopria print service is on the same vlan, then, maybe its something else that needs to be looked at.  Can other devices discover that printer and is the issue only with a certain type of device?

  • Online printing services and that built into Aperture

    Hi,
I regularly have pictures printed by a well known high street photo store here in the UK but just recently I've been disappointed with some of the results.
They're coming back too dark and with a yellow cast even though the original files look fine when viewed on several different modern monitors, some calibrated, some not. I even run my monitor at minimum brightness when preparing them to try to simulate how dark they will look when printed using this service. I also add much more exposure to some pictures in Aperture to the point where they start to look washed out and even then they come back a bit dark.
I'm therefore looking to find an alternative service. Can anyone recommend a reliable and affordable online printing service that produces results close to the electronic versions viewed on their monitor?
Has anyone tried the built in "Order Prints" option in Aperture? How did it go?
I briefly tried to use this option last night but for some reason it didn't recognise my Apple ID which I thought was the same as I use to log into these forums ie "d60Dave" in my case. Am I mistaken?
    Regards,
    Dave.

I second that about photobox. I've used them for 2 years or so - never had to send anything back. I've been pleased with the results for prints, posters and small booklets. online service only

  • Photo printing services and the ProPhotoRGB profile?

I recently tried to have some images printed by Adorama here in NYC and they came back washed out and brownish. I eventually deduced that the issue was that the photos had an embedded ProphotoRGB color profile and that Adorama couldn't handle it or convert it to something that would work.
Does anyone have any suggestions for online printing services that can manage this color space and give me really nice prints?
I've just uploaded the same files to Mpix to see how they manage - anyone have any experience with Mpix? How about Nations Photo Lab?
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Also - what is the best workflow for converting ProPhotoRGB color space to another color space? I tried converting it to Adobe RGB and it looks crap.
    Thanks

Both Mpix and WHCC, among others, support a fully color-managed workflow
that allow you to embed a standard RGB working space profile like ProPhoto.
Exactly how did you perform a conversion to Adobe RGB, and how did you view
the image after performing the conversion?

  • Suisse printing service and wrong  language

I am trying to order a book from the Suisse (French) printing service. I already submitted the book with iPhoto 9.0.1 with no problem but the order was then cancelled as there was a problem with the file they received. Since the update to iPhoto 9.1 the language of the store is wrong, in fact the sheet that appear with order summary is in German and not in french. I have tried to select other stores from the iPhoto preferences and every time I change the store if I pretend to order a book the summary page reflects the change except in the case of the Suisse (French) store. I think it may be a problem of iPhoto 9.1 or of the server but in order to exclude it is a problem with my upgraded copy of iPhoto may somebody try to select the Suisse (French) store and try to click buy book to see if the language that appear on the summary sheet is French or German? Thanks.

It's still broken in 2013, really disappointing. Don't think it is related to any iPhoto version.
The Swiss store is only available in German and French - English, my system language, won't do. However, in all those years I've never seen an option to choose between German/French, iPhoto always just assumed one.
In my case it picks French (instead of German) eventhough the preferred language in the Apple-ID account is German. Also, in "System Preferences -> Language&Text -> Language" German is listed below English but above French on purpose. Furthermore, in "Language&Text -> Formats -> Region" I picked "Switzerland (German)".
I've yet to figure out how Apple picks the effective store. If it doesn't look in either of those three places it's seriously broken anyhow...

  • Print services and linux clients

    Hi,
I'm installing a Windows Server 2012R2 as a printer server. It must give support to all kind of clients (windows, os x and linux).
Then, I must use event id 307 and 805 to count printed pages.
My question is related with event 307 and linux clients. I'm asking linux users to configure their CUPS to connect using samba printer, for example, \\server\printer001 but when I check event id, I get no file name (Remote Downlevel Document), and most important,
I get 0 printed pages in param8. I did some testing using IPP, but I were not able to configure a printer in linux (couldn't manage to make linux clients to validate with their domain user account when using IPP). I tried configuring printer on server to render
jobs in server with no luck. Tried PS drivers just in case it was easier to CUPS to send info to server, but no luck either.
So, basically, is there any way to configure server (or linux client) so I get page count in event 307 in printservice? If I must configure IPP printing, how may clients configure their printers to validate using domain accounts?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Sorry for delaying in reply.
Linux clients see page count. I've paused printing and checked some documents. Property page from a linux client document shows as this:
Documents sent from windows clients show same but they've document name and page count.
SPL archive copied from spooler printer on Windows server shows that info is present too:

  • Export for online printing service question...

Hi all...I am new to all this exporting business so please bear with me. In the past if i wanted prints made i just burnt them to a disk and took the disk to a local photo lab to have printed. So the question is when using an online printing service such as Mpix, would i just export versions as original sized jpegs and send them to the printing service and that's it or do i also have to mess with the dpi setting? I noticed the default dpi setting is 72 for all the export presets. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks in advance...Dave

    hello, dave
quote: "when using an online printing service such as Mpix, would i just export versions as original sized jpegs and send them to the printing service and that's it or do i also have to mess with the dpi setting?"
when someone else is doing your printing always ask them how they want your Versions delivered first prior to burning the DVD, for example, 16bit TIFF, 8bit TIFF, colorsync (color mangement), dpi...there is an excellent tutorial/information on this in Aperture's help menu "Photography Fundamentals"
what i do is edit the photograph by softproofing to the printer used. in Aperture select the Proofing Profile & then Onscreen Proofing

  • Open Directory Printers still showing up even though Print services is off

    Hi all,
Long time ago, back when Panther was king, we setup Print services on our Panther servers. It often jammed and now we turned off the Print service and deleted all the queues. But now, when adding printers to our client laptops running Leopard, the open directory printers are showing up under the Default icon and people are being misled to add these printers. Is there a way to remove these "ghost" printers?
    - Mike

Hi Mike, no experience with Server. Does it have a Reset Printing Services or such? Like 10.4, 10.5?

  • How many printer can I host on an Apple server 10.6.8 in ServerAdmin Print service?

I had 53 printers recently (two weeks ago) on our printserver and kept getting the error message:
"The service has encountered an error. Try to refresh the view (printserver.local/Print). (kNetworkError)"
This message would come up multiple time while loading the Print service or the Printer queues in Print service.
I had 20 printers setup on this same server last school year and had no problems.
When we redesigned our network this summer, I had to setup the printers again as the IP addresses had changed.
after adding the original 20 printers and adding the other 30, I then started to notice an obvious slow down in ServerAdmin app while loading the Print service and the Print queues.  The grey gear wheel showing that the system is processing, would never stop spinning.
It would take up to 20 minutes for the Print queues to load and even after they did load the gear wheel never stopped spinning.
When I would attempt to make a change in any Printer queue i.e. selecting a print protocol (SMB, LPR), the system would not Save the change even though the system allowed me to click the Save button.
So, any suggestion on how many printers I can effectively Host on an Apple server 10.6.8+?
    Thanks,
    Vince

    Hi
I think your main problem may lie here:
"When we redesigned our network this summer, I had to setup the printers again as the IP addresses had changed"
Correctly resolving DNS is crucial for OS X Server's reliability and robustness of services. It needs it simply to resolve it's own name to its IP Address regardless of what service your running. If when making the changes to your network you made no allowances for this then you will experience this:
"The grey gear wheel showing that the system is processing, would never stop spinning."
    With increasing regularlity.
To answer your question AFAIK you can add as many printers as the USB bus can support. If these are networked printers you're adding, and if it was me, I would not add them to OS X Server's Print Service.

  • Setting aperture & apple printing services

    Hello
I am working in Aperture and plan to order a book (my first one !) from Apple printing services and still have questions about monitor calibration... I want to be sure I do the thing properly in order to get the right results :
    - Should I calibrate the monitor using the gamma 1,8 (mac) or gamma 2,2 (most commonly used) ? From what I read, experts and professionals recommends gamma 2,2 but will it works when ordering book from Apple when the mac world is using a 1,8 gamma (or is it taken into account automatically when ordering books ?)
    - Apart from choosing the calibrated profile in System Preferences / Monitors / colors is there anything else to do in Aperture to work on the picture and order a book which photos will look the same ? I presume it would be good to select a proofing profile like Adobe RGB (1998) to work on the photos ? Which one is best to use for ordering books from the apple printing service ?
    Thanks !

    Hello Kenneth,
    Thanks for the quick feedback
Indeed I had read this article before posting on the forum, and this one get me even more confused. Gamma 2,2 is recommended, but I am wandering if it is the right choice when ordering prints from Apple, when we know that Apple products are using gamma 1,8 ???
Concerning the proofing profile I found this article : http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/preparation_tips/ : it is written that when ordering prints, "the image should be in RGB mode, not CMYK." So I would conclude that I should use a RGB setting for the Proofing profile, right ? The thing is I see 2 RGB profile type : Adobe RGB and sRGB. In that case which one to use for proofing in order to check my work before ordering the book ?
    Thanks !

  • Print Services unresponsive suddenly

    Gurus,
I have this issue with print services.
It was working fine, and we have not done anything specific that would change any settings or anything, however, it has suddenly become unresponsive.
Tried to pull up a report in workspace and it gave the error.
tried to stop and start print services, and it would not start at all.
I went to SERVICES and then tried to manually start print services, but it just says STARTING, and then it does not start at all.
what logs would be helpful in this case?
any thing that i might have overlooked which would help me fix the issue?
    Thanks

You will probably have to kill the process in task manager and then start the service again, it is not unsual for that to happen with the print server, if it rarely happens then I wouldn't worry about it.
    Cheers

Printers are indeed restricted by departmental groupings in AD.

Hey Guys,I wanted to ask for recommendations on how to alleviate a problem I'm currently having. I've inherited this situation, so looking for advice.I have a single WS2008 Storage server handling file shares, print services and roaming profiles storage for roughly 80 users.

The problem is with RDS logoffs around 530pm daily. File shares and print services becomes very slow. I realize that it has to do with the amount of traffic that the file server is processing during that time and will usually lasts about 30mins.Questions:

  • Combining a service and item invoice in one print out

    Happy New Year everyone!
Hope you are all well and are fresh for work! I have a dilemma with a client. They want to be able to combine a service invoice with its corresponding item (kept in the item master data) and produce a print out. The service is taxable.
Can Crystal report or any other engine achieve that?
Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    Patricia

You could define a non-inventory item for the service and then both can be seen on the same document!
