More 4:3 woes

I have made a quicktime file in Widescreen from my Final Cut Express 3.5 and now want to make a DVD. However, even with my settings set @ 16:9 in Project Info I keep getting a 4:3 image. Reading some of the discussions will the Anamorphisiser help? And if so where can I find it or what can I actually do to get this right?
Thanks for your help!

  • More Project Manager Woes...

    So, I've created nested sequences in my edit for all the clips/sequences that I intend to send to my VFX artist. When I use project manager to create a trimmed project for these nested sequences, a load of the clips are randomly just not included. I open the generated project and about half of the sequences (in no discernible order) have clips missing from them, despite the Project Manager telling me that it had successfully managed the project.
    Is there some mystical reason as to why I'm not supposed to be able to just have all of the clips in the nests be included in the trimmed project?

    Peter,
    According to several other users, the project manager actually ignores nested sequences, unless those sequences are selected by the tick box. Which, kind of makes sense. My problem was that I WAS selecting all of the nested sequences with the tick box, but after more investigation it seems as though the problem was this: if 'Nested Sequence 01' and 'Nested Sequence 02' both contain a clip from media file 'A001C001' then that media file would be trimmed to appear in 'Nested Sequence 01' but would then be ignored for 'Nested Sequence 02' and removed from the trimmed project, with no notification or indication at all unless I manually go through and check every sequence against it's counterpart in the original. This problem even occurs if, I go to each of the clips appearances in the different sequences, create subclips for each of them, place those subclips on the timeline in place of the original, and then convert those subclips to individual master clips. This is extremely frustrating and leaves with me with absolutely no confidence in Premiere's ability to do what is advertised. Furthermore, it's really screwing up my schedule for delivering my work to our VFX artist.
    It's honestly really great that Adobe are constantly striving to have the most 'cutting edge' tools, like a project manager that finally contains features that have been included in Avid and FCP for ten years. But I believe I speak for a huge portion of customers when I say that, for the past few years, the updates to Premiere have felt like hopping from one damaged Beta version to the next. Please stop rushing out untested versions of the software with fancy new buttons and just focus on making the existing version, that people are already paying for, work properly and stably.
    Best Regards,
    Martin
    PS. Kudos on successfully taking a complaint about a technical fault in your software and using it as an opportunity to sell me something instead of actually offering any real assistance.

  • More Internet Explorer woes.

    Once again I have developed a website on my Mac and tested it with Safari 5.1.1. It looks great under Safari, but when I view it in Internet Explorer 8 under Windwos XP Professional SP3 the menus are screwed up.
    The menu items should be one above each other, like this:
    Home
    Seema B. Sood, MD
    Staff
    Location
    Holidays
    FAQ
    not like:
    Home
    Seeme B. Sood MD
    Staff  ->  Location
    Holidays   FAQ
    I'm guessing that I need to make a changed to ul.menuBarHorizontal li.MenuBarItemIE but despite seartching I cannot figure what I need to change.
    The website can be seen at: http://www.Staging-Area-1.com.

    Add/modify the following
    ul.MenuBarVertical li {
        width: auto;
        display: block;
        float: none !important;
    The !important bit overrides the JS; this must be there.
    Although it misses out on the !imprtant bit, here is more info http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/menubar/AutoWidthVerticalMenuBarSample.htm l

  • More Home Sync woes

    I pretty much gave up with Home Sync before we even got Snow Leopard. Automatic syncing is still a complete disaster and so I adjusted the prefs in WorkGroup Manager so that those managed Macs have it available, but only manually. In that way, I can (in theory at least) sync any Mac to its network home which makes it easy to set up that user on another Mac, which will then get the latest files.
    This has worked for a MacPro, but a couple of MacBooks still insist on trying to sync automatically. Of course I cannot change it on the client Macs themselves and in WM the settings for all the Macs are the same, Always control but everything is set to manual. As I said, this is fine for the MacPro, but as I type this, the MacBook Pro is busy trying to sync umpteen Gb of data I just don't want. Of course there's no obvious way to simply tell it to stop either.
    Undoubtedly the most useless and fundamentally flawed service of OSX Server, but has anyone had this same problem of not being able to get the client to understand that it should NOT be sync'ing? Any solution?

    On 20mhz the max my HH3 puts out is in reality about 144 but more often than not 72.
    Channels 1, 6 and 11 near me are full of BT WiFi , Sky and other subscribers.
    I find the HH3 (mine is also the B) rubbish. I'll be ditching it for a Netgear WNDR router soon enough.
    If 1,6 and 11 are congested then I wouldn't even consider 40mhz mode.
    If you understand how this works by requiring an additional channel you can see why.

  • More MSI-8870 woes...

    Hi all
    After finding out the cause of lockups while under heavy loads, the following occurs (although not too frequently).
    After a reset, soft-reset (button) and BIOS reset (after entering BIOS and exiting), I the display become completely corrupted - mind you this is under "DOS"  during initial system bootup, not while under Windows XP Pro.
    Nothing in my computer is overclocked, and I have never overclocked the MSI-8870 (only had it three days so far and only got it working yesterday).
    However, when it is operational it runs no problem - left it running in 3DMark2001SE over two hours, no glitches.
    Could any one venture a guess, educated or otherwise, as to what might be the cause of this?
    Hopefully the link below works and you can see a screenshot

    I had a problem at first when I installed the standard single SLI ribbon bridge using 2 Gigabyte SOC GTX 260 GPU's.
    I could not get the GPU's in SLI mode. One of the cards was not detected simply due to a bad ribbon connection.
    I moved both connectors up & down a few times attempting to clean the connectors on the ribbon & GPU's. It worked.
     My GTX 260's have duel ribbon connectors on each card. Looking at the solid tri SLI connector, I just wondered if it would work even though I only had 2 GPU's. Well, I installed it anyway, & it works like a charm. I ordered 2 more of those solid tri SLI connectors for my other 2 Rigs I built cuz they have 2 GPU's each with duel bridge connectors & are in SLI mode. This solid tri SLI connector works for me with only 2 GPU's installed. Try it. I think it's better to have more connections then one, & I swear I see a performance boost due to better Data flow between the cards. Dont think negetive, Try it.

  • More mts file woes in Elements Organizer

    Howdy folks,
    I'm a longtime Elements user, and I upgraded to v12 recently.  I have some new videos to import from my Canon Vixia HF M52, which get written by the camera in mts format.
    I have no problem importing them, but in the Organizer, they show up as generic movie files and I can't play them from within Organizer.  It's the exact same thing that was reported at the start of this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5718599
    I've tried everything mentioned in that thread, but to no avail.
    I've unistalled, downloaded fresh, and installed Quicktime, so I have 7.7.4 (1680.86) installed.
    Though I've looked all around, I can't find any other apps or utilities that may have conflicting drivers/codecs.
    I've started new PrE projects with these mts clips and they display just fine.  The main problem is I can't see a thumbnail or play them from the Organizer.  When I had Elements 11, I was able to preview them in Organizer.  Many mts files that I had imported when I was running Elements Organizer 11 still have the thumbnail, but now they don't play now but used to (and some are missing the thumbnail). "Update Thumbnail" doesn't do anything.
    The machines powerful enough, Win8 64bit running on an Intel Core i5 with 16GB RAM and two big hard disks, plenty of room on them.  Video is the onboard Intel HD Graphics 2500.
    This problem is just with the Organizer, I realize, but being able to play the clips from within Organizer is very, very convenient, a bit more than a nice-to-have, especially if worked with the previous version.
    Any direction would be helpful, thanks in advance.

    Hi ATR,
    Thanks for providing a pointer to something to try.  Here's what I did:
    Using one of those files as a test, I deleted the file from the catalog (but not the hard disk, of course)
    In Windows Explorer, I changed the filename extension to one of the ones suggested
    Back in Organizers, I did an "Import from Files and Folders"
    In the file browsing window, I could see the file, and in most cases (in other words, with most of those filename extensions applied), I was able to preview the clip in the file browsing window
    Once the file was imported, I got the same behavior in the Elements Organizer, no change from original.
    This was true for all the extensions you suggested
    Another thing I tried was to import the file with the avi extension, then create a new project in Premiere Elements and try to import that file from the Organizer. It showed up with a yellow upsidedown triangle saying that this file is not supported.  But if I went through the same routing with the file renamed as m2t, it would import into a PrE project, but no sound. And again, if I did all the same but with the original mts extension, it imported as expected, sound and all.
    There must be a codec here somewhere. After all, the clip is definitely playing, but just not in Organizer!

    #Gainward GTX 460 GS GLH 2GB *2 (SLI)
    # Corsair TX 950 PSU
    Those are the specs of the above offending computer and problem, This was my first build, i started with that mobo and an x2 550, with just a Tx 650watt corsair, I eventualy finished with that, And on the way it has givenn me nothing but problems, i went with amd because they had more support in my area, because intel cost me an arm and a leg, and because my last run in with intel, was terrible, the core 2 quads bottleknecked on the 790I chipset something shocking.
    This is the fourth MSI motherboard that i have had nothing but problems with, at first it was just a faulty/miscalibrated sensor, it never budged from the temp it was reading, Now, its not detecting cards in PCI-E slots, yet they work perfectly fine, 4 hours under OCCT? No problems, the cpu's fine too, tested it in another machine, 24 hours under linx, no errors.
    MY history, is i went with a 750i Platinum from msi, that died a week later, then a 780i, that died 2 days after, both were secondhand boards, it could be anything with them, that was months ago, then i tried another 750i it didn't work when i got it, after that i went with an asus 680i striker, worked fine aside from the aforementioned FSB Bottlekneck in games, I loved that thing, after it died from abuse, over use, constant tinkering, many lan parties i decided to build a brand new machine, with the parts at the top, THE WHOLE DAMNED SYSTEM IS BRAND NEW yet, its the msi motherboard that has a problem yet again *SIGH* If it wasn't the only am3 sli ddr3 board on the market i w wouldn't of got it, so i come here asking.
    Can you help me fix it before i throw it through a damned window and go buy an el'cheapo machine from the local electonics store and stick my 460's in that >.<
    Heres what happend exactly, in as much detail as possible, i had brought home two WD raptors, the new 600GB ones, two of them, slapped them in hooked them up to the first 2 sata ports, unplugged everything else but the dVD, Turned on the raid controller, put them in raid zero i was ready for more speed, more power, The raid volume was easy to make, the ui was simple, for my first raid setup, i started the install of w7
    W7 installed no drama, but for some reason after all my drivers, it wouldn't detect the si bridge, so i disabled the raid controller, put my old drives in, and returned it to its 'original pre-raid config' booted into x64 vista, and it said i was missing a card, sure enough, one of the cards hadn't been detected,. perhaps i knocked something, powered it down, pulled them both out, plugged them both back in and voila, sometimes it picks up the first, sometimes teh second, other times neither and reverts to onboard video and attempts to boot.....
    I had just purchased 2 more 1920x1080P monitors, so i could play with nvidia 2d surround at 7560x1080, Im real upset.

    Steve,
    Normally depending on the situation- I would set up a static-DHCP map - In our router this is the binding of IP Address and Mac address that you want the DHCP server to give to a certain device. So when the RV110W asked the DHCP server for an address it would give the same address you assigned in the static-dhcp-map section. Now the other way is to set up the STATIC IP address in the RV110W so you would basically pick a address that you want the RV110W to have and assign it(ip-address,subnet-mask,default-gateway,and dns servers). This should be able to communicate with the gateway router. That being said you would need company who manages the Gateway router and have the forward all port to the address you specific on the RV110W Wan interface.
    Example:
    Gateway router
    Public IP address  86.456.21.51 (giving by ISP)
    Local Lan (private) address of gateway router
    192.168.100.1
    RV110W
    Wan address
    IP - 192.168.100.50--- Subnet -255.255.255.0--- Gateway – 192.168.100.1
    In your gateway router you would have them to forward all ports or specified ports to wan interface of our router @ 192.168.100.50 (This address is what i specified as an example)
    address will reflect actual ip address you set.
    This is an example of how sending all service ports to an internal private address of the RV110W
    Hope this helps,
    Jasbryan

  • More epub export woes

    I've moved back to CS4 to create and export my ebooks, since CS5 has the [very annoying] bug of failing to properly export intra book document hyperlinks.  Unfortunately, though CS4 seems to make better interactive epub files, I'm running into some other problems.  First off, every time I export a book to Digital Editions, ID CS4 crashes, often reporting damaged files on a restart--some of them so damaged that I can't reopen them and have to recreate them from scratch. The crash appears to be happening as the epub export is completing because I usually find the epub file after the crash and it will open and all of it is there. This has happened with 3 ebooks in a row . . . every time I do a book export to Digital Editions, CS4 crashes.
    Another strange thing I just ran across is the inaccurate export of typographical quote marks.  The weird thing about it is, that it can be correct in one book document and replaced by "Äô" in another book document in the same book.  I opened both docs, and they are using the same glyph and fonts, so I can't figure out why it's right in one place and wrong in another in the same ebook file.
    Anyone have any ideas about either of these issues?  I have fully patched CS4 (and CS5--though that helps little with the unfixed hyperlink bug) on an Intel Mac running 10.5.8.
    While I wait on any replies, I'm going to try the exports from my Windows 7 laptop to see if I have the same problems there.

    That was the first thing I did but copying the text to note pad and stripping all styles got me right back where I started. The strange thing is the encoding can be fine in some chapters and displayed wrong in others. whether it's a single file separated by first levels or multiple files in a book file.
    I've been told it's the reader's fault but that means ADE (and subsequent readers that use ADE would all see the bad encoding. In another forum I was told to add:
    <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> in the <head> of the document. I did, but it didn't change things.
    One thing I noticed was when exporting you get varying results of the encoding if you sort by unordered and ordered lists as opposed to convert to text.
    One will provide less encoding hassles. Anyway my only solution so far is manually editing the code to the html codes. Find and replace.
    http://www.tedmontgomery.com/tutorial/htmlchrc.html
    It might be a worthwhile project to export the epub and convert the epub to epub in Calibre and see if Calibre reincodes it correctly.

  • More command line woes......

    ok - I have 2 copies of a very similar java class called FileStuff - one of them is part of a package called ch10_io the other is not.... I can run the one that is NOT part of the package by typing >java FileStuff. I cannot run the one that is part of the package.
    here's the source for both.....
    1st the one in the package:
    package ch10_io;
    import java.io.File;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import static java.lang.System.out;
    public class FileStuff {

            out.println();
            for (String fileName : args) {

    somehow?Yes.
    When you do what flounder suggests you will have to specify the directory that the source file belongs to when you compile it. (Using some OS specific convention like / or \).
    And when you run the program you will have to specify the name of the class. (Using the convention that Java likes: package-dot-name).
    [Edit] > if I just type >java FileStuff it doesn't. Any ideas why that is?
    As above. But, woe! "zero dukes available"!

  • More PDF template woes!

    I am building a PDF template which needs to have 2 lines on the right hand column but only 1 line on the left. I have set the template up as specified in the manual, but it appears to put the left column 1 record out.
    If I only have 1 line, then all lines up fine. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Update - Many exhausted options later, I tried changing the tooltip entry on the second line to match the data on the first. Suddenly - it works as it should!
    This may just be a function of different versions of Acrobat. I am unit version 8.
    Anyway, could be useful information if anyone else needs to work with PDF templates.

    Hi Tim,
    Don't I know it! - this one was done this way due to having a pre-printed form which we had to line up against. It's been a pretty steep learning curve. Also may have a new (and possibly easire) approach for barcodes.

  • More about sleep woes.

    I'm on an iMac G5 running 10.4.9. And I do not use Energy Saver to put my Mac to sleep.
    A few months ago (it MAY have been just prior to installing 10.4.8 update, but I can't swear to it) my sleep functions began to act strangley. First it seemed that when I manually chose sleep, it took a longer time for Mac to respond. Then sometimes when I put it to sleep, it would not awaken, and I would have to restart. When I did, SOMEtimes, but not all, during the restart things would progress as far as the bright screen with the gray apple, but the little gear thingy would not show up, and eventually the fan would start up with an awful roar, at which point I shut down.
    Sometimes when I try to manually put it to sleep, it just doesn't respond.
    I read something in this forum which suggested trashing some .plists (which had to do with Energy Saver settings), so I tried it, and it SEEMED like things were behaving again--for 5 days--then things started misbehaving again.
    For the record, I am constantly repairing permissions, and I've run both Disk Repair and Hardware Test which have found nothing wrong. I've read some things regarding sleep issues which suggest updating with a "combined updater" instead of with Software Update. This confuses me because I'm not sure what a combined update is.
    Any suggestions as to how I can get my machine behaving properly once again?

    The Combo Update, like 10.4.9 PPC Combo Update is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before. It has worked well for many.
    Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
    And the preferences you deleted were ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist?
    Also, /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist and com.apple.AutoWake.plist ?
    Sleep issues can be some of the most difficult to troubleshoot.
    Often, they are due to a connected peripheral kicking back a signal to the cpu, it could also be an app calling on the system.
    First, disconnect all peripherals (unmount any firewire devices before disconnecting) and test with just your Apple keyboard and mouse, If sleep works correctly, the begin adding back the peripherals one at a time.
    Next, check in System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login items and see what applications are there and deselect them.
    Also check in /library/startupitems. The system puts nothing in that folder by default so anything there was installed by you.
    Another way you might check this is to create a new account, name it "test" and see how your Sleep function works in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.) This account is just for test, do nothing further with it.
    Open System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" make it an admin account.
    Let us know.

  • More Duplicate Message Woes

    So sad Apple can't appreciate this particular difficulty of using their machines. Leaving this functionality of removing duplicates to independent providers or freeware. Seems like an obvious need, why not build it in? It obviously wasted countless hours of many people who report the problem.
    I'm a good customer, bought 3 machines last year... I wish they would warn buyers about the troubles they are buying...
    Forget migrating-- that just moves all the old machine problems to a new machine. Yes Tiger eventually gets corrupted with DSL usage. So clean installs take a week of lost time. Besides, migrating from a dual to a powerbook has other issues.
    Manually moving large mail accumilations creates duplicate message problems.
    Forget large mail boxes-- You must hand sort things into small boxes as if that is fun. Why should a software care if a mailbox is large? Just because some people like small boxes?
    Apple-- Please remeber we want to avoid wasting so much time.

    All email clients have limits and most use a single large database to store all data.
    The recommended size limit for Jaguar or Panther mailbox is 1GB and 2GB for a Tiger mailbox.
    To put this in perspective, Entourage uses a single large database to store all data and the database size limit for Entourage X is 4GB. The recommended size limit for a single Tiger mailbox is 50% of the database size limit for Entourage X. The database size limit was increased with Entourage 2004 but there is a limit.
    Before upgrading to Tiger, I didn't allow any mailbox to exceed 500MB or so in size and used the Rebuild Mailbox function on the most active mailboxes on a regular basis - once a month or so depending on activity and I never experienced an "overstuffed" mailbox issue or any issues.
    I prefer creating and utilizing "On My Mac" mailboxes to sort received and sent messages by category that I need or want to save instead of using an account's Inbox and Sent mailbox as the final storage location for all received and sent messages not deleted.
    I agree that no mailbox size limit would be preferable but 2GB is huge IMO and as previously provided, all email clients have limits.

  • More video connection woes

    Been trying to connect with my family's computers to finally test out some of the newer features of iChat, however it's giving me the error below. I used to connect without any problem at all before. I've tried the Flip4Mac upgrade I saw suggested in another thread, but that's not done anything to help fix the problem. Before upgrading I used to use Chax and Ecamm's iSight enhancements, however they appeared to have been lost in the upgrade installation; could this be remnants from that?
