More about changing settings on Outlook Express

Verizon has sent me a notice to change settings on both the POP3 Server and the SMTP Server (to 995 and 465 respectively.)
My question pertains to the "Server" screen on 'pop.verizon.net" in  Outlook Express which has two boxes at the bottom.
The first box says "Log on using Secure Password Authentication
The second box says ""My server requires authentication"
My current settings (110/25) have the first box unchecked and the second box checked
When   I  retain the current box settings I cannot send mail -- get a "time-out" message
How should I reconfigure the two boxes?
Your help would be much appreciated

I believe the settings you specifically asked about are for receiving email only -- not sending it.
For sending email, the server name is smtp.verizon.net.  The outgoing connection requires authentication and uses the same user name and password as the incoming server.
Your ports are not correct.  The incoming port is 995 with SSL enabled, and the outgoing port is port 465 with SSL.  You apparently have them set to 110 and 25.

  • How to go about changing settings based upon logged in user

    Hi all,
I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on how one would go about changing a property on a node based upon the logged in user.
For example, say you have a path property at /apps/myComponent/settings.path=/content/dam/genericfolder that for an author have the value of /apps/myComponent/settings.path=/content/dam/sandbox, and for an approver have the value of /apps/myComponent/settings.path=/content/dam/approvalsandbox

    Hi Ove,
Thanks for the tip on the user role. I had thought about taking that approach, however, leveraging the user role and properties associated with it would be the correct approach if writing custom components. What I am looking for is a way to take existing components, and essentially use them in context of the user.
For example, say if you are trying to give a sub group of users access to a subset of the DAM directory, and you don't particularly wish to hack around the existing WCM DAM component, there is a setting in the tree navigator (/libs/wcm/core/content/damadmin/treeRoot) that lets you specify where the root of the tree is. (There are more settings to work with, but this is just one used to illustrate.)
If you can change the property based upon the user, that gives you the functionality without altering code.
I would like to know if this is possible, if this is an inherently bad practice, if so why, and whether there may be another alternative out there which lets you avoid having to alter the code of an existing component.
    Thanks again for answering.

  • Sync error message about mail client - using Outlook Express, wants Outlook

I keep getting a message that "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client"
Outlook Express IS set as my default mail client, both on my computer and on the iTunes screen.
I use Calendar on the iPhone, but do not have sync requested on iTunes for this function.
I do have Outlook on my computer, but do not use it (don't need calendar function at home, but do like to have it on my iPhone since I carry it with me)

I'm having a similar problem. "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Office Outlook and set it as the default mail client." (iTunes 7.6.1.9)
I sync my contacts with Yahoo! (not Outlook).
I was syncing my calendar with Outlook. This was working just fine, but when I started to get the error above, I have tried turning off the calendar sync. No help there.
I am not syncing any email accounts via iTunes.
Anyone have any suggestions? Given that I'm not syncing with Outlook I don't understand the error. Thunderbird is my default mail client and I shouldn't have to change the system defaults to work around this bug.

  • About send mail through Outlook Express

I send mail through outlook . but system shows "your server has been terminate suddently. The possible reasons include servers error , NetWork error or long time among inactive status ." I promise the setting of POP3 and SMTP is right. Who can help me ? thank you.

I would start first with, do you know that the smtp setting for your server actually points to a Sun Java Enterprise Messaging Server?
what do you get on a command line when you do:
    telnet <what you have for smtp> 25
    ?

  • About half the time Outlook Express won't open. Any suggestions?

I run Windows XP and Firefox is my default browser.

It probably doesn't have anything to do with Firefox. I thought some kind Samaritan would know the answer.

  • Outlook Express 12-28-11 Email Changes to Settings don't work

Verizon Email of 12/28/11 told us to make changes to Portal settings of Outlook Express
The intro tells us how much they want to "enhance our online experience". Then at the bottom, they tell us to not respond to the email. Why don't they have a return email when people start having problems? Probably because they would be swamped with complaints.
Worked on this o ver two hours yesterday on my 4 email accounts on 3 computers
As usual, the Verizon instructions are wrong at http://verizon.com/emailsettings
They must never test this stuff before they publish it
Per the above instructions, I changed the  Outgoing Portal to 465 and checked the SSL box for that portal
Set the Incoming Portal to 995 from the existing 110 and checked that SSL box
Outlook express would time out waiting for Verizon to connect for outgoing messages
I had changed the Outgoing Portal to 587 per Verizon instructions in 2009 (I document everything and keep it!)
So, I reset that with the Outgoing SSL still checked: still timed out
Unchecked the Outgoing SSL and everything worked
The settings that are working now:
Outgoing Portal 587 with SSL unchecked
Incomong Portal 995 with SSL checked

I agree - so much of what Verizon does, doesn't work. Their instructions for Windows Vista, Windows Mail say:
Setting up and updating your Verizon Online email with Vista™ Windows Mail Setting up
    Open Mail.
From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
    Select Add.
Select Email Acount and then click Next.
Enter the name to be displayed on outgoing messages and then click Next.
Enter your email address, and then click Next.
Type incoming.verizon.net in the Incoming mail (POP3)field.
The Incoming Server (POP3) should be set to 995.
For Incoming mail (POP3), check the box that says “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)”.
Type outgoing.verizon.net in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) field.
The Outgoing Server (SMTP) should be set to 465.
For Outgoing mail (SMTP), check the box that says “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)”.
    Click Next.
In the User namefield, type your Verizon Online user name.
In the Passwordfield, type your password.
Check the Remember passwordcheckbox. (If you do not check this box, you'll be prompted for the password when you access your mailbox.)
Click Next and then click Finish to close the window.
However, when you get to the "setup email servers" page at step 7 there is no check box forselecting an SSL connection for either Incoming Mail or Outgoing mail. Aside from the POP3 dropdown and the 2 address boxes, there is only a 4th box where you can check "Outgoing server requires authentication". Whazzup? What Windows Mail setup are they looking at?
Given the problems people are having, I guess the best thing is to ignore the Verizon email warning and when it fails, just switch to Comcast.

  • Outlook Express set-up

I am trying to get Outlook Express on my new Computer.  It will send mail but will not receive.  I have incoming.verizon.net fot the incoming and outgoing.verizon.net for the outgoing.  Everything is set like the old computer but I must be missing something.
    Any ideas?

You can check the outgoing mail settings in Outlook express by going to
    Tools->Accounts,
    Then Select the Mail tab
Click on your email account (usually listed as incoming.verizon..)
Then click the properties button on the right.
    Click on the Servers tab
All the way at the bottom is a section for Outgoing Mail Server:
Click the box that says My server requires authentication
    Then click ok.
Try resending.. ya should be all set then

  • Why does Outlook Express suddenly keep quitting?

For no reason that I can think of, during the last few days Outlook Express quits when I try to compose an e-mail. I can't even access my address book. I can use my webmail account with no problem, but I like the way Outlook Express allows me to set up a group for e-mails.

You cannot repair the drive you have booted from. You must boot from another drive or the installer disc to repair the drive. You can however repair permissions on thwe boot drive however as was suggested.
Just another wild guess about your problem with Outlook Express- could it be a Daylight Savings Time (DST) issue? Microsoft and Apple had all sorts of patches for their software to overcome the recent change in DST.

  • Can't import emails from outlook express into mail

Just bought a macbook, I'm new into MAC, I'm a MAC ROOKIE. I'm trying to import my email from my microsoft outlook express to my MAC MAIL, I followed the instructions to import from outlook but when I locate the outlook files for my emails (they have extension .dbx but it won't let me select the files. Besides in the outlook folder there are dozens of files (1 per email subfolder). What am I doing wrong that I can't import the emails, nor the address book?
    Thxs!!!
    Avecesar

Pay attention to the information Mail displays during the import process. It could be that it wants you to select the folder that contains the files to be imported, rather than the files themselves.
EDITED: Now that I've read your post again, I don't think you're going to be able to do this on your MacBook, as importing from Outlook Express requires that application to be running in the "Classic" environment, which isn't available for Intel-based Macs.
Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about how importing from Outlook Express is supposed to work, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

  • Outlook Express email client

Hi: I help a friend with his Verizon.net account. On 12/25/09, he couldn't send/receive email using Outlook Express. He called tech support, and the call center (India?) took remote control of his desktop and he said that they deleted Outlook Express shortcut and said that Outlook Express and Verizon had parted ways and that he HAD to use Verizon Yahoo webmail and not outlook express. I cannot find anything on the Verizon.net webspace or blogs or searching that verifies this. So when I go to his house, I am simply going to recreate the POP3 settings in Outlook Express and place the shortcut back on his desktop. I tried chatting via the one line tech support, but got nowhere on getting a definitive answer from Verizon. Any thoughts?? Many thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Verizon and Outlook Express were never "partnered" - The agent was confused. Verizon *did* end it's partnership with Microsoft, but that only affected the LIVE and MSN software that Verizon was offering. Outlook Express is in no way linked to Verizon service, it's a standalone program.
There are different OE settings for Verizon/Yahoo accounts than for regular Verizon accounts though.
For the sake of example, we are going to pretend that we are setting up fictional account "[email protected]" and the password for logging into that account in webmail is "fakepassword" - Again, this is a fictitious account for the sake of an example.
The settings for using Verizon's servers would be:
    Incoming Server: incoming.yahoo.verizon.net
    Server Requires Authentication: Yes
    Username: fakeacct
    Password: fakepassword
Requires a Secure Connection (SSL): No
    Port: 110
    Outgoing Server: outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net
Server Requires Authentication: Yes (You can set it to use the same settings as incoming, or manually enter the username and password.)
Requires a Secure Connection (SSL): No
Port: 25 (although 587 also works.)
    Hope this helps!

  • Change pop & smtp settings for mozilla/firefox Free Outlook Express

4 weeks ago I installed a new WXP (2002) program/system. I then moved my browser to Firefox/Mozilla. When asked to input data for Outlook Express (in the service pack 2 for WXP) I gave them the wrong settings for pop & smtp input and output.
How can I correct these settings to make Outlook Express useful?

Please update to Firefox 21 [[Update Firefox to the latest version]]
Outlook Express isn't developed by Mozilla, we can't provide support for it.

  • How can I transfer Outlook Express / Windows Mail settings and contents etc, to Windows Live Mail?

As a system reseller and support provider, I know that this is going to be a major factor for many home users. I know that Windows 7 does not have a mail client by default, and I know that home users will be expected to install Windows Live Essentials.
Windows Easy Transfer doesn't transfer emails, contacts etc from OE/WM (although it will transfer Outlook).
Therefore, what is the easiest way to migrate from OE/WM to WLM?

Here is the complete transfer procedure from OE to WLM:
    MAIL BOXES EXPORT
    1. Go to Outlook Express > Tools > Maintenance Tab > Store Folder.
    2. Make a note of its location and navigate to it. If you haven't moved it, it's here C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{GUID}\Microsoft\Outlook Express. You may have to show 'hidden' files in Folder Options to see it. Close Outlook Express.
    3. Copy the whole folder (not just the .dbx files) to an external source. Remove any ‘Read only’ attributes via right-click > Properties.
As an alternative to 2 above, you could move the mail boxes to an ‘easier-to-get-at’ location, i.e. Open My Documents and create a folder named Mail Boxes. Now go to Outlook Express > Tools > Maintenance Tab > Store Folder > Change and type the location of the new folder, e.g. My Docs\Mail Boxes. Close Outlook Express. The store location is now easier to navigate to and it is not hidden.
    CONTACTS EXPORT
Go to Outlook Express > File > Export > Address Book and select Comma Separated Values (CSV) > Export, select the fields you want or, for more safety, select all the fields and save it to an external device.
    MAIL BOXES IMPORT
Go to Windows Live Mail > File (press Alt if the Menu Bar is not showing) > Import > Messages OE > Next > Browse to the location where they are stored and follow the wizard.
    CONTACTS IMPORT
In Windows Live Mail > Click Contacts in the bottom left corner > Menus top right (or Alt+M) > Import > CSV (Comma Separated Values) and browse to the file you exported from Outlook Express.

  • Why do I "HAVE" to have "OUTLOOK EXPRESS" for my email? I hate it and don't want it so what can I do about it??

I used to have HOTMAIL for my email and now it's been PERMANENTLY changed to OUTLOOK EXPRESS. OUTLOOK screws up my emails when I want to forward something; if I send someone an email that I got from someone else it shows ALL the information of who sent it to me, etc. I do NOT like OUTLOOK and would like to know how to get rid of it without changing my email address. I know if I switch to gmail I won't be "forced" to have it but I would just as soon not have to do that. Please let me know "IF" there is anything I can do about this.
    CMKT

Hello CMKT, try to change that, and select your hotmail in Applications panel > mailto, see : [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-program-used-open-email-links Change the program used to open email links]

  • When clicking on a link within my Outlook Express, it will not open to the website. This has worked flawlessly in the past. What has changed? Thank you.

When working in Outlook Express and attempting to click on a link in my email, it will not open the website any more. This worked flawlessly before last week and now has stopped working. Please advise.

    Hi mcsimmons,
First thing I would do is check [[How to make Firefox the default browser|to see if Firefox is your default browser]]. You could also go to ''Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs Tab'' on your computer and make Firefox the default web browser that way.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Question about changing a Snow Leopard Server network settings

We have an Xserve running Mac OS X Server 10.6.8, the primary services running on it are afp, smb, dhcp, dns, jabber and the calendar sever.
Right now we have a router connecting two networks together, 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24. The Xserve has a static IP address in the 192.168.0.0/24 range.
In order to combine two phone systems into one I am required to combine the above networks, this will involve removing the router and changing the subnet mask on every device from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.254.0, any device that is currently part of the 192.168.1.0/24 network will also need to have it's router setting changed from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.1. That part should all be easy.
However, this is my first experience expanding a network past a standard class C and am wondering if there is anything I need to watch for on my Snow Leopard Sever.
Specifically I wonder about dhcp settings, right now there are two dhcp servers, the Xserve which provides dhcp for 192.168.0.0/24 and the router that provides dhcp for 192.168.1.0/24. Once the router is removed the Xserve will need to provide dhcp for the entire network.
Looking at the Xserve dhcp configuration right now I have one subnet defined providing addresses 192.168.0.5 to 192.168.0.125.
Can I simply click the + to add another subnet and add for instance a range of 192.168.1.5 to 192.168.1.125?
Will it simply give out all of the ip addresses in the first range and then start with the 2nd? Or do I need to find a single range of ip addresses large enough to meet my needs? (e.g. 192.168.1.5 to 192.168.1.225 or something).
Is there anythign else to watch for after making this type of network setting change?
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your very detailed reply.
I understand the problems that can arise using 192.168.0.x and 192.168.1.x and if this were a new project I would definitely switch to something else, however in this case we have been using these ip ranges for years (they were in use here long before I started) and I don't want to have to redo all of my dns settings at the same time I make these other changes so I'm going to stick with the same ip's we are using at least for now. Anyone here needing vpn access has already dealt with this issue but we  have very few vpn users so it has not been a major problem for us to date.
My biggest question is about increasing the size of the dhcp pool. For instance, after I change all the network settings and set up a /23 network is it possible to have a single dhcp pool that includes some ip's in the 192.168.0.x range and others in the 192.168.1.x range? I guess what I am asking is when I am in Server Admin and click on DHCP one of the tabs across the top is "Subnets". Right now there is a single "subnet" configured that provides addresses from 192.168.0.5 to 192.168.0.125.
Ideally I would like one dhcp pool that provides ip's in the range of 192.168.0.5 to 192.168.0.125 and then if all of those are used up, moves to 192.168.1.5 to 192.168.1.125. Can I do that by simply adding another "Subnet"  so there are two? Or do I have to find one larger single range? (e.g. 192.168.1.5 to 192.168.1.225?) You may have already answered this indicating I have to have a single larger range but I just want to be sure.
The parts about changing subnet masks, and routers and all that I think I have a pretty good understanding of.
Your last paragraph is something I have been worried about, I do have a feeling that after making this change there will probably be unforseen issues that will need to be resolved, I'm just hoping it is not too many. For the scope of this thread I will just focus on issues that may arise with the Snow Leopard Server however.
Again, thank you for your help.
