More Airport, Bonjour, Windows printing problems

I have posted about this before, about my own success in getting Windows 7 laptops to print via Bonjour through an Airport Extreme.  I thought I had it all figured out.  However, yesterday I replaced my older model Airport Extreme (first generation 1102.n) with the most current model (considered 5th generation). I configured the new Airport Extreme via Airport utility which allowed me to copy the exact settings of the old one.  Everything appeared to work fine until I tried to print from my HP laptop running Windows 7.  This laptop printed to our Canon Pixma MP490 (the Canon is hooked up via USB to the Extreme) via the older Airport Extreme and Bonjour without any problem. Interestingly, I had no problem installing the printer on the laptop using Bonjour--it shows it and appears to be in proper configuration.  I correctly put the Extreme's IP address as 10.0.1.1 as I have done before.   When I try to print, the dialogue box appears and shows the Canon 490 ready to go, but when I click to print, nothing happens, nothing appears in the que for the Canon printer.  I have tried the usual remedies, deleting and reinstalling the printer, restarting the Extreme and the laptop itself.  It just doesn't want to talk to the printer.  Any thoughts are appreciated.  I have done extensive web searching without any new ideas.

The cover page of the following document is unprintable. You get an  error message saying "no pages selected" if you start with page 1. You  can only print the report if you avoid page 1 and start on page 2. I do not have problems with any other PDF documents.
http://www.bcauditor.com/files/publications/2011/report_4/report/OAGBC-Environmental-Asses sment-Office.pdf
I'm using Windows XP and a Laserjet 1000. This problem occurs with both Adobe Reader X or Foxit Reader 4.1.1.8005
Similar problems have been posted on http://forums.adobe.com/thread/392800
So it must be something peculiar about the way the cover page is designed.

  • More on..Windows Printer Sharing on an Aiport Snow Network

Using suggestions from this forum and ifelix, I configured my network so that all three computers (x2 Macs and x1 windows laptop PC) were 'seen' via finder. I can share files and print etc between the two macs fine, but despite setting up a new user account on the laptop PC that matched the mac shortname etc as suggested, I am unable to connect from the Mac's to the laptop.
I can see (via finder:go:connect to server)the windows laptop domain name, in this case,TIMESCO and the laptop itself (Graham-Laptop) and the ip address which is 10.0.1.3.
(ABS is 10.0.1.1 and the two Macs are .2 and .4 respectively)
The user account set up is per my mac shortname and despite then typing in smb://10.0.1.3/<useraccountname> I get the error code -36?
    Any suggestions would be helpful

Are any of the computers running any kind of internet
    security or firewall software?
    iFelix
    Hi,
Yes, I had firewall on (on the two Macs) except for file sharing, windows sharing and print sharing.
I had/have an anti virus and spysweep on the PC but windows firewall is off.
As we speak I have turned the firewall off on the the Macs and checked it was turned off on the PC and disabled the spyware and anti-virus and tried again.
I get a dialogue box entitled <SMB/CIFS Filesystem authentication> asking for Workgroup/Domain<TIMESCO>; Username<grahamdodds> and Password.
I am still getting the error -36?

  • Airport express and printer problems

    hi there,
i have a new mac pro laptop.my printer is a hp officejet 5510 all in one.it works fine when i connect it to the computer but will not print when i connect it to the airport express. could someone please help me with this question.
    thanks again

Try using the process outlined here:
HP Printers (and others) not on compatibility list and Airport Extreme Printing
    http://tech.ifelix.net/1300.html
It make work with the HPIJS drivers, specifically the HP OfficeJet 5500 driver.
Your 5510 is not supported by either the supplied HP driver, the HPIJS or the Gimp-Print drivers.

  • AEBS Airport Extreme USB Printer Problem

AEBS recognizes my Canon MX700 on the Printer page, but it shows two lines, one labeled "Canon MX700 series", and the other "Canon MX700 series FAX". The name field for the first label is blank and can't be updated (any entry made here is gone after updating AEBS). The name field for the for the FAX label can be changed and gets updated. From the Print & Fax System Preference panel of my computer, the FAX name entry appears and can be "added," but printing to it does not work (error 311). My MX700 firmware and driver (new CUPS) are up to date, as are specs on my AEBS. Does anyone know what I should do? Thanks!

Hmm... helpful answer, maybe, Duane. I wonder about the two labels though. If it doesn't support the FAX side, then why is it showing a 2nd label for it? Just curious...

  • Printing problem - printout that become garbage characters

I am having problems printing - not everything and not all of the time.
But to often I will print something and it will start printing garbage characters page after page. - Wastes a lot of clean paper.
It happens with different applications - including web pages, pdf files, Movie magic Screenwriter. No rhyme of reason to it.
I have a Brother hl-6050 printer. The correct driver is correct.
I should also say this does not happen from Windows (either in a virtual window from my MAC or booting directly to windows) ever.
Last but not least - We print thru a little print server made by Trendnet. It has the lastest firmware. Again only a problem on the MAC. I've tried connecting thru the ip as well as the server name.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Paul

I'll see if I can provide some of that -
Model Trendnet: TEW-P1UG, Wireless print server (802.11g). (Server Name:PS-705EF8)
Adding a new printer in the default options - the systems finds the print server and Lists it twice - Once with Appletalk and the other Bonjour.
The local comes up as Local Zone. I select the Driver for this printer: HL-6050DN series CUPS. -- The Queue name defaults to PS-705EF8-U1.
    Using Appletalk made no sense
Using IP - Default to LPD. The queue becomes the IP address.
Using LPP or LPD: neither work. Can't even print a test page.
I'm less familiar with these particular variations. More use to Windows printing setup which is a little more straight forward. Go figure.
    Thanks
    Paul

  • Windows Printing - Printer Setup (10.4.6 to Win2000 Printer on Network)

I am new to the Mac! I have an Epson Stylus 760 on a windows 2000 machine on my home network. How the heck do you setup the printer? Here is what I have done.
The printer is on a Win2000 machine. Printer sharing is on (I can print to this printer from other Windows PC's on the network).
I am trying to setup the printer on the MAC - how do you "see" the printer. I can see the PC and it's shared folders in Finder. But the print setup utility does not "see" the printer.
    On the Mac, I do:
    1) Add printer
    2) In the Default Browser, I choose the "More Printers"
    3) Windows Printer; Network Neighborhood
    4) I choose the proper workgroup by name
    5) I highlight and Choose the PC by name
Thats where I am stuck... I don't "see" any printers. The list is blank.
Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    smbclient -NL [insertIP_of_Win2k_here_nobrackets]
This means connect with No Login to the Windows computer.
It should spit back some info about shares (it complains about no login, but still gives you the info).

  • Airport Extreme - printing problems with window desktops

    Hello everyone;
I a mac book and 3 more pcs (window) at home. I recently bought a airport extreme router in order to able to print from my mac book via wireless. everything is nice when I print from my mac book buy I'm not able to print from the pcs. This is annoying. I really need to get this working. Please send me step by step how to this thing works.
    thanks,

    Hey there BobKier,
It sounds like you have a printer connected to your Airport Extreme and you cannot print from it. I suggest the troubleshooting steps from the following article to help troubleshoot the printer:
USB printer troubleshooting for AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and AirPort Time Capsule
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1253
    Check for software updates
Be sure that you have the most recent OS X or iOS software updates, and the latest firmware for your AirPortproduct before trying to print.
Note: Printing via an iOS device requires an AirPrint enabled printer. Refer to AirPrint Basics for a list of AirPrint enabled printers.
    Disconnect and reconnect
Disconnect the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme or AirPort Time Capsule from a power outlet.
    Turn off the printer.
Be sure the USB cable from the printer is connected to the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme or AirPort Time Capsule.
    Turn on the printer.
Reconnect the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme or AirPort Time Capsule to a power outlet and wait for it to become ready.
    Try to print.
    Check your printer driver
Check the website of the printer's manufacturer for the latest driver version.
    Reset Printing System
Use these steps on your Mac if the above steps do not help.
Open System Preferences > Print & Fax preferences.
Control-click or right-click in the Printers section on the left.
    Choose Reset printing system....
    Click OK.
Click the + button to add your printer again.
    Try to print.
    Still not working?
If your printer still doesn't work with AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme or AirPort Time Capsule printer sharing, but does work when directly connected to your Mac, contact the printer manufacturer for additional information and to verify that printer sharing is supported.
    Additional Information
Refer to this article for additional help setting up a USB printer on your Wi-Fi network.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • Documents stuck in printer queue - Airport Extreme + Windows 7

    Hi There,
I have a HP CP1215 Laserjet hooked up to my Airport Extreme and print to it from a Windows 7 (x64) machine.
Everything works fine in the sense that I can print documents and the quality is great, the problem is that the document remains in the 'printing' status in the windows queue forever more and the printer continues to print copy after copy of the document until I manually delete the job from the queue myself.
I also have a mac that uses the same printer (setup with the foo2hp drivers) which works fine so I'm thinking it must be a network/windows issue.
Any help would be gratefully received.
    Many thanks,
    Oliver

Please read this postthen provide some details.  What printer model? How is the printer connected - USB, wired LAN, Wireless LAN, bluetooth?
Running the diagnostics at http://www.hp.com/go/tools may help resolve the issue.

  • DO you need Bonjour for printing on Windows?

I'm just wondering if Windows PCs connected to the AIrport Extreme need to have Bonjour to print? On our Macs there is no problem. We see the printer as a Bonjour printer. The problem is that we have a lot of clients who come to our office who have PCs and we don't want to tell them that they have to install Bonjour on their laptops just to print. Any ideas?

No you don't. But since AEBS doesn't have DNS support, you will need some kind of name resolution in order to find the printer (or any service) on your network. Bonjour for windows provides this function. If you insist on not installing it, you can assign a static IP address to your network printer, and use this fixed IP address when you add a new printer.

  • Problems Printing to Shared Windows Printer Via SAMBA (foomatic error 255)

I can NOT print from my MacBookPro to a printer that's shared out from my Windows PC. Of course, printing to this same printer from my PC works fine.
Please help me resolve this printing problem.
Read on for more details regarding my printing woes!
I can successfully setup my printer on the MAC side using the Printer Setup utility. I see the shared out printer on my MAC; I can pick the printer's manufacturer and model. Everything looks ok regarding the setup of the printer on the MAC side.
However, when I try to print a file from the MAC, the printer never prints. The print job appears to get queued on the MAC side. However, after a few seconds, the printer queue displays "foomatic-rip stopped unexpectedly with error 255" (if I selected a foomatic printer driver from the hpijs). Otherwise, it says "NTSTATUS_NOMEMORY" error (if I selected a gutenprint driver instead).
The PC's Windows event logs show no problems. Indeed, the Security event log shows successful authentication & access to the printer.
The MAC's CUPS error_log displays the these error messages:
GutenPrint fails with NTSTATUS_NOMEMORY error, then says Cannot connect to SAMBA host
hpjisGhostscriptFoomatic fails with "The process 'foomatic-rip' stopped unexpectedly with status 255"
Later, I will post the exact entries from this log (I am currently separated from my MAC laptop until later this evening).
My Apple MacBookPro is running MAC OS X 10.4.11 ("Tiger"). The printer is an HP DeskJet 5150 connected via a USB port to my DELL 8400 PC. This desktop PC is running Microsoft's "Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2").
Based on reading other posts (here) and at the Linux Open Foundation (printing), I have already done the following:
    Installed gutenprint;
    Installed foomatic (foomatic-rip v3.42.2.15);
    Installed ghostscript (espgs v7.07.1); &
    Installed hpijs (hpijs v2.7.10).
NOTE: This is NOT the same problem that I posted earlier regarding inability to print to a shared printer with Leopard (MAC OS X 10.5.0). Today's posting deals with my inability to print to the shared printer from Tiger (MAC OS X 10.4.11).
NOTE: This may be a "red herring" but you may need this additional background to help resolve my printing problem. Originally, I ran "Tiger" (MAC OS X 10.4.10) on my MacBookPro laptop. Of course, networked printing worked fine at this point. On October 28, 2007, I upgraded to "Leopard" (MAC OS X 10.5.0). Leopard was a "disaster" for me (printing, networking & many other problems). On November 9, 2007, I "punted" and re-installed "Tiger" (MAC OS X 10.4.10) from Apple's original CD. On November 15, 2007, I upgraded to MAC OS X 10.4.11 via Apple's software update utility. I vaguely recollect that networked printing was working after I returned back to Tiger.

    Tony H.

As promised in my initial post regarding my printing problem, here are the actual error messages displayed in the Print Queue (Hp5150) and the "cups" error_log when I try to print any file to my HP 5150 that's directly connected to my DELL PC (Windows XP Pro) but shared out so that my MacBookPro should be able to print to it.
    Printer Queue Hp5150 window displays:

    /var/log/cups/error_log displays:

E [04/Jan/2008:20:28:17 -0500] [Job 3] Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry in 60 seconds...ERROR: Connection failed with error NTSTATUS_NOMEMORY
Again, the system Event logs on the Windows XP side show no error messages. In particular, the Security Event Log shows that authentication was successful; so, the MacBookPro's client process was granted access to the printer on the DELL PC side of the transaction.

  • Report print problems windows 7

    Hi All,
Am trying to get to the bottom of a really weird error that occurs periodically.
When trying to print an HTML report using the Print Report VI occasionally an IE error is thrown. An error dialogue with some info is shown, it says the error occurs in res://ieframe.dll/preview.js which is clearly not part of my LabVIEW code. Note this does not come out of the error cluster, it is generated within the ActiveX node itself.
    Any body have similar problems?
Using LV2010 (32-bit) on Windows 7. Have tried installing latest versions of IE etc and it does not solve the problem.
    nrp
    CLA

    Hi nrp,
This seems to be more of a Windows error but it could be related to how LabVIEW is trying to communicate with IE too. I would recommend that you try the official example and see what happens. There is a VI in the Example Finder called HTML Report. It shows you how to correctly create a HTML report. There is also an example by the name of PrintControlReport.vi. This shows how you can then print any report that you’ve created. The combination of the two should give you what you need.
    Hope this helps,

  • Problems Printing to Shared Windows Printer

After upgrading to Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5), I can no longer print to my HP DeskJet 5150 printer from my Apple MacBookPro laptop. This Deskjet printer is NOT directly connected to the laptop. Instead, it's directly connected to my Windows PC (via USB port). This printer is shared out from the Windows PC.
I see the following error messages in the Printer Queue display every time I try to print something to that Windows shared printer:
    "Connection failed: NTSTATUS_CONNECTIONREFUSED"
"Unable to connect to CIFS host, will retry in 60 seconds..."
In addition, every print attempt requires me to enter my Windows authentication credentials:
    userid (on my Windows PC)
    password (on my Windows PC)
I am absolutely sure that I have entered those credentials correctly. Yet, the error message above would seem to imply that Windows rejected my credentials for some reason. On the Windows side, the Security Event log entries appear fine (no corresponding failure gets logged when the print attempt fails).
Of course, my printing to the shared out from Windows PC WORKED FLAWLESSLY under "Tiger" (Mac OS X 10.4.x). My problem started immediately after I upgraded to "Leopard" (Mac OS X 10.5) on October 28, 2007.
Please advise me how to resolve this printing to a Windows shared printer problem.
    Thanks in advance,

I'm having the same problem. Sharing an HPLJ5MP on WinXPSP2 box, and printer sharing was working fine under Tiger. After installing Leopard, can see and set up printer, but attempts to print test page are thwarted. Log:

  • Adobe reader XI: doule sided print problem with network printer (windows 8 pro)

Hi, I'm facing a problem with my old printer, the xerox phaser 3160n. It was connected to my notebook through network connection, and everything works well with Adobe X /Win 7 OS (including the double side print, of course) last month, I have upgraded my NB to windows 8 with clean install
clean install my printer driver for windows 8 too, and Adobe reader XI was also downloaded through official website.
However, since I was about to use double sided print in Adobe reader XI (11.00.02) it couldn't obey the order, but just print one side as usual
I have checked the "option" of my printer, and it was correctly set to "double-sided print". I have tried word 2013 to open the same pdf, and choose the same "double-sided print" and it works perfectly.
Is this problem a bug? and would it be corrected in the next update version??
(I remeber I've saw a similar issue too, with network printer, but I couldn't find it)
    Thanks!!!

    Hi,
Meanwhile, after insatlling the latest driver for printer from the manufacture website, restart the spooler service as a test.
Start > Run > cmd and type "net stop spooler" after that "net start spooler" or start > run > service.msc and restart it over the GUI.
Run Printer Troubleshootor under Action Center\Troubleshooting\Programs\Printer, and check if it helps.
And yes, the manufacture should have more sence about the printer, it's recommended to contact them.
