More Belle Experience

I've had two working weeks with Belle.  Here's some more feedback for you Nokia.
The upgrade process SUCKS.  You made progress with Anna, being able to do things OTA and keeping your apps and settings.  But Belle's Computer only upgrade?  It was buggy, error prone, and to get the upgrade clean I had to ditch all my apps in backup and hard reset the phone.
Battery life seems to have been slightly better on Anna 25.008.  For some reason I can't figure it out for sure--one day it seems like Belle lasts forever, and the next it seems like it lasts 2 seconds.
I miss being able to touch the battery icon to turn on power saving mode.  This was a great feature in Anna--why ditch it in Belle?
The clock and calendar widgets SUCK hard.  Anna had that nailed with the combo clock/date/profile widget in a reasonable amount of screen space.  The Belle clock?  Too huge.  Trying too hard to look 'Droid and too Useless.
I already mentioned profile switching, but let's talk about it some more.  So you took this away in Belle and it used to be on the front-page.  That's okay, you have this cool drag down status bar at the top that shows you a couple of cool pieces of information.  Including profile.  You can switch between normal and silent--WHY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DID YOU NOT INCLUDE ALL THE PROFILES IN THIS?!
See Comment #5, except at the end, replace the all caps with this:  WHY FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT"S HOLY DID YOU NOT INCLUDE POWER SAVING MODE?!
See Comments 5 and 6 and replace the all caps at the end with: WHY FOR THE LOVE ALL THAT"S GOOD IN THE WORLD CAN'T I ADD FUNCTIONS TO THIS NOTIFICATION AREA?
I see a lot of complaints about Belle and a lot of articles saying how to organize it.  . . .Despite my above complaints I have to say Belle was an improvement in many areas.  Stability (granted, I reloaded it three times or so and did a hard reset) is MUCH Improved--even over Anna.
The new slicker, more dense and modern layout ability is a big plus--though honestly I wasn't really dieing for more app space with Anna.  If you hadn't hosed the clock and calender notifications, it might be close to perfect.  Instead, I find myself wishing for Anna's clock and calendar notifcations in exchange for a few extra home screens.
The default theme per usual Nokia, is horrible beyond words.  I highly recommend the Softtech_Evo_By_Atlantis Theme to anyone who wants rid of the horrible abomination nokia festered upon us.
You tried too hard to be like both Android and iOS.  You **bleep** off a large portion of your most rabid fanbase with trying to be like the two new cool kids and ignored the fact that you were THE cool kid once upon a time.  Just being a little bit more Anna-like and I think you'd have been better off.  Heck, just keeping the notifications area/widget for calendars would have won you lots of praise.
You did a lot right (waits for the audience to fall over) when it comes to navigation.  Belle is much better in many ergonomics areas.   Button's are spaced better, closer to where they should be etc., Why on earth did it take 3 releases of an OS to get to this?
All the little tweaks with the apps were great.  Camera, mail, even the auto-rotation works better.
Love the speed.  Belle seems MUCH faster that previous releases.
There's two ways to orgranize Apps--home screens and "apps menu" I suggest you do both as a user.  I also suggest alphabetical ordering of apps.
Can I please have a percentage remaing app for the battery?  Nokia Battery Monitor 3 is never accurate.  It's hard to estimate my remaining usage looking at a picture.. I know somewhere that app is hidden under the OS itself, because sometimes it shows on shutdown.

listing down a few more things i found in belle on my E7.
When the phone is set in power saving mode, runs outta juice and switches off, after switching it on i find that the big clock is not set as the screensaver(none is set) and the display brightness is defaulted.
As read  in a few reviews, in camera app a few settings can be applied by selecting it and then giving the ok button or clicking them twice.
The icons look wayyy too big in the menu.. anna was ok.. but would prefer smaller icons.
There are glitches while moving between homescreens with analog clock being used in a homescreen(generally when widgets have live changes like ticking in this case). When ever I access the homescreen there are glitches(not as bad as in the first case) but would smoothen out after the first swipe, guess this is to free up the media processor and thus some aid in backup. Guess can live wid this but would be better if something can be done
The browser becomes unresposive when loading, cant browse through the page while loading.
The battery backup is good and stable get around 2 days with min to average use and a day or so with average to max usage, but in 3G mode battery does drain very quickly.
I have observed this bug right from anna, if location tagging is set to off when taking pics(after flashing) the same is not reflecting in the camera app, have to set it again, believe is the same for other settings as well.
Message length is not visible when using the qwerty keyboard.
Sometimes in messaging the contact name is not displayed instead the mobile number comes up, a restart fixes it! Can't replicate it knowingly.
In general I am very much happy with belle than on Anna but these few things could improve it !

I have updated my phone to 4.3.3 and I was told there would be more bells and whistles. I haven't found more texting sounds. Have I updated my phone wrong or just not completed it all the way? Please help me. Still trying to figure this iphone 3G out.

You have the iPhone 3GS, not the 3G. The last update to support the iPhone 3G is 4.2.1.
iOS 4.3.3 includes bug fixes etc. There is nothing really special about this update that wasn't introduced in iOS 4.3. iOS 5 is the one to wait for - it will be released in the Autumn/Fall and includes over '200' new features/improvements.
The additional text tines and ringtones were an iPhone 4-only feature.

  • Why does Acrobat Pro 9 have more bells and whistles than Acrobat Pro XI?

I have a Power Mac with Acrobat Pro 9 and it has more menus with more functions than the Acrobat Pro XI on my iMac.
I'm supposed to be migrating to the iMac and giving the Power Mac to some co-workers, but I need the functions in Acrobat 9 that I don't see in XI.
In 9 I have these menu items: File, Edit, View, Document, Comments, Forms, Tools, Advanced, Window and Help.
In XI I have: File, Edit, View, FusionPro, Window and Help.
    I know FusionPro is a 3rd party plug-in.
Do I have to do something to make them appear? Has Adobe taken them out? Did they move them?
    Primarily I'm interested in:
    Document > Crop Pages function
    Tools > Advanced Editing functions
    Advanced > Print Production functions
BTW, I don't know if this is an installation issue or not, but this seemed like the most likely forum.

In XI, all of the tools are in the RHP (right-hand panel) under tools/comments. Some tools require you to right click on the tools settings by the tools selector to allow other tools to be displayed. These tools are no longer given on the menu bar and has been the change in the Acrobat UI structure. A few tools are at times removed, but the ones you mentioned are still there.

  • Belle - A big step backwards.

Nokia Belle is a big a step backwards.
    1. Battery life has gone pathetic. My phone does not last 4 hours, while with anna, it lasted 18 hours.
    2. No way for user to kill background tasks. (App stop is not available for belle)
    3. No augmented reality apps. (No wikitude, not even Nokias live view, or city view)
    4. Top icons are not responsive anymore. I cannot click on battery icon and go to power saving mode.
    5. App installation takes twice as long.
    6. Many apps install, but do not work. (e.g. astroller).
    7. Six screens have too many apps running.
Somebody PLEASE advise how to go back to anna?
    Solved!

The whole Belle experience is vastly improved from Anna, more versatile , quicker, modern, feature filled and functional, try searching the user guide on the phone, spend some time exploring it, you may find you're being over critical, The update is a MAJOR software change, not a slight update, it's like getting a brand new phone, spend a couple of days tinkering and you may turn out to really like it
I cannot for the life of me recognise the Belle improvements.
Experience is vastly improved=> can you name some of the improvements?
    more versatile: examples?
quicker=> No noticable difference as far as I can tell.
    modern=> you mean ugly
feature filled=> What features? I only miss features I had with Anna
(eye candy isn't a feature in my opinion)
functional=> How is removing features functional?
    My experience:
Widgets are bigger and clunky and cannot be configured. I have tried everything, but
I cannot make my homescreens look as nice and neat as I had them with Anna.
Moreover, I need MORE homescreens for the same info.
The highly functional date/clock/profile widget I enjoyed in Anna is no longer available.
Now all I get is a BIG ugly clock and an ugly grey profile widget that does not show self-
created profiles (I created an Outdoor profile, because the Anna standard one is no
          longer there!)
Ugly text under the shortcut icons that cannot be removed (a choice would have been
          nice)
Widget online/offline toggle is no longer available.
I can only access 'Open applications' by long pressing the menu button. I liked the
menu option better. I do not want to wear out my menu button or have the bottom of my
phone drop off. I love my N8 and do not want to lose it anytime soon. Forcing me to use
hardware buttons when there perfectly fine menu options in Anna is just plain annoying.
I can no longer create folders within folders. (Yes I liked that feature!)
I can no longer switch homescreens by clicking on the software button on the bottom
middle of the screen. (Yes, I used that a lot)
I can no longer turn on battery saving by clicking on the battery. Now I have to either
press the power button or dive into the menu.
I liked the notification widget much better than that eyecandy slide down notification bar.
I can no longer access the connectivity menu via the homescreen. I need to go to
          menu/settings/connectivity.
With Anna, connection settings were easier. When on the road, my 3G connection was
automatically selected and whenever I was within range of a known WiFi connection,
that connection was automatically selected. With Belle I have to set the internet
connection to ask what connection I want. The only other option is to hardcode either
3G or a specific WiFi network. If that selected connection is not available, the
connection fails. So now when I access the internet I first have to select the desired
         accesspoint. How's that an improvement?
I do not have more RAM available than I had before (80MB-90MB) and my phone does not run smoother/faster than under Anna (which was just as smooth/fast on my phone, I had no complaints!). And yes my phone was empty when I upgraded. Before I upgraded I synchronised my contacts/messages/photo's and uninstalled all apps I had installed and then performed a soft reset. The phone was empty, like I just got it from the store. I currently do not use a microSD and install all apps on the mass storage (not on C.
I am the kind of person that buys and uses the phone that I like and that gives me the functionality that I need. I do not feel any need to impress my friends. If they don't like my phone, tough! I am the one using it, so I am the only one who has to like it. All this added Eye Candy is therefore useless to me. Couldn't they just have added the eye candy without removing the handy Anna features? Then everybody would have been happy.
Someone please tell me what it is that I am, judging by your comments, obviously missing!!! Let me know what I have overlooked, because I love Nokia and I love Symbian and I want to love Belle, but I just cannot. :-(

  • Does Captivate content work with the new standard, Experience API (xAPI)?

I have developed SCORM conformant courses, but my current customer-base does not use a Learning Management System (LMS).  The eXperience API (xAPI) tracks user experiences using a Learning Record Store (LRS) rather than an LMS.
According to Adobe marketing, Captivate 8.01 (which I have) publishes content for use with xAPI.  The Captivate help does not include any directions or assistance on xAPI.
Has anyone used Captivate products with xAPI and an LRS?  Can you point me in a direction to find out more information on this??
My fear is that this will require far more programming experience (xAPI is open source) than I have.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

You can publish the Captivate project as xAPI output by going to Edit > Preferences > Quiz > Reporting and selecting TinCan from the Standard dropdown list.
However, Captivate can only track the same elements as that of a SCORM output even with TinCan.

  • 1 year experience in NetWeaver installations- Whats next ?? help needed..!

    Hi Gurus,
Iam a BE graduate(electronics) and have been working in a small company  basically doing plain installation of Netweaver ,XI, ECC systems installations will little configurations.
I feel there is no much future in this domain.
I want to switch team or take other roles to help me reach my goal of becoming a <b>Funtional Consultant</b><u></u>..
If I am given  a role of <b>funtional tester </b>will it be okay to take this role.. or a role in <b>support</b> will help me reach the goal.
Please help me in this regard.!!
PS: replies will be appreciated and rewarded...

I agree with what you say about new technologies coming along but they will all need basis input to get them up and running.  Visual Composer isn't all it is cracked up to be (in my opinion) but that's a separate issue...
Whilst I'm sure the E-SOA achitecture will enable functional people to implement some business logic I still believe there will be a large requirement for technical people - functional people will only be able to build fancy xApps based on underlying services which will still need to be built by a developer, on a system installed and configured by a basis person.  They won't be able to magic functionality up out of thin air!
You're right that functional people have more exposure to business processes (development people do as well in my personal opinion - in 10 years I've worked as an ABAP developer, PP/MM functional consultant and more recently Web development (portals, Web dynpro, etc.) and all along I've gained wide business process experience with the benefit that I've worked in most of SAP's modules not just 1 or 2.)   I've kept up with most of SAPs new technologies but never had to unlearn anything - in fact most technologies serve as good foundations for newer solutions.  The trick is to keep learning!
The key thing here for you is possibly your MBA desires - I'd say this leads more to you moving towards functional work as you will no doubt gain more relevant experience that will help your goals.
My experiences have taught me a really good consultant has a good understanding of numerous areas of SAP and technical knowledge is always useful on a project regardless of the functionality being implemented.
    Hope this helps
    Gareth.

  • More X1 Cloud DVR Recording Problems

For the past week I have been having issues with random recordings not showing up on the X1 Cloud DVR. The recording will occur on the physical DVR but will not record to the Cloud DVR. Yesterday evening I had a total of 6 scheduled recordings, with 2 of them failing to record to the Cloud DVR at their scheduled time. I purposely watched the actual DVR and the Cloud DVR (using my Android phone and the Xfinity TV app) when the recordings were scheduled to start. The 2 recordings that failed to start recording to the Cloud DVR were:Big Brother (S17, Ep 20) Channel 1005 @ 8:01pBehind Bars: Rookie Year - Is It Worth It? (S1, Ep 1) Channel 1330 @ 9:01p  As soon as I saw they had failed to start on the Cloud DVR, I used the Android app to find them in the "Guide Listings" and hit the Record button. Prior to my hitting the record button, neither showed the red recording indicator. As soon as I hit the record button, the recording then showed up in the "Recordings" list on the Android app and my PC. If a Comcast employee can look at my DVR recordings and my Cloud recordings you will see that both shows display but each now has a different start time being that it took me about a minute before I could get the recording to start on the Xfinity TV app and website. Now, on to the second problem that I have been having with Cloud DVR recordings. Some of the recordings fail to play with a Stream 500 error, and will not play on any computer, tablet or phone. Others give an Error 900.primetime.102100 code. This occurred when trying to play back "Behind Bars: Rookie Year: Is It Worth It?" This is the show that I had to start the manual recording for since it failed to record to the Cloud DVR even though it was scheduled. This show will not play on any PC using Chrome, IE, or the new Edge browser in Windows 10, Vista or 8.1. It will play on the Android app on my phone or tablet. After trying to play it and failing, I scheduled the show to record another time and it worked. Here is the diagnostics output when trying to play on Chrome. Customer Service DiagnosticsMy public IP address 98........

Video title Behind Bars: Rookie Year: Is It Worth It? It would be nice to get a more stable experience using the Cloud DVR, since I use it about 50% of the time when watching my recorded content.

Since Comcast doesn't seem to want to acknowledge a problem between the X1 DVR and cloud DVR recording schedules, I decided to post this issue to it's own thread. Looking at my recording schedule, I see a bunch of shows I have scheduled for Wednesday (Aug 12, 2015) that are not showing up on the Xfinity TV app or website, but show up on the DVR and the DVR Manager website. As you can see below, out of the 4 shows I have scheduled to record, only 1 is showing up on the Xfinity TV app and website.  Since I have seen this in the past, this will end up with those 3 missing shows not recording to the Cloud DVR. Since I already see that my Thursday, Aug 13th, schedule is screwed up as well, I will be posting that as well.

  • I synced two of my email accounts via gmail's POP3 thing. But now my iphone's gmail inbox shows a random selection of emails (not most recent ones that are in my inbox). How can I make my iphone inbox match what I see when I log on using a PC?

I synced two of my email accounts via gmail's POP3 capabilities. But now my iphone's gmail inbox only shows a random selection of emails (i.e. right now it is May 31, 2013 but the emails in my inbox are a couple from Nov 12, a few from Oct 12, and then some way older than that and so on.When I log into my gmail from a computer, I see all my emails in the logical, standard order. How can I make my iphone inbox match what I see when I log on using a PC?

If you're trying to decide between using POP and IMAP, we encourage you to use IMAP.
Unlike POP, IMAP offers two-way communication between your web Gmail and your email client. This means when you log in to Gmail using a web browser, actions you perform on email clients and mobile devices (ex: putting mail in a 'work' folder) will instantly and automatically appear in Gmail (ex: it will already have a 'work' label on that email the next time you sign in).
IMAP also provides a better method to access your mail from multiple devices. If you check your email at work, on your mobile phone, and again at home, IMAP ensures that new mail is accessible from any device at any given time.
Finally, IMAP offers a more stable experience overall. Whereas POP is prone to losing messages or downloading the same messages multiple times, IMAP avoids this through two-way syncing capabilities between your mail clients and your web Gmail.
That is from the page that you linked- does highlighted part of message ring a bell?

  • I don't understand why Symbian has been killed off...

I recently posted my impressions of the 808 http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=374416 and it has it's problems which means I will not be keeping the phone for very long. However if Nokia continued with Symbian which has far more potential than Windows Phone I'd have been happy with it and would have stuck with the phone knowing there will be more updates.
Now I've never used Symbian before, unless the 3310 run it, though that was a vastly different experience that you cannot compare. I decided just to give it a chance as the 808 was mega cheap on ebay and I thought what the hell, my upgrade comes in April and I can sell it then if I don't like it. I broke my phone so I needed to buy a new one and it's a bit of fun trying something other than Android or IOS for once.
I have to say now I'm not a fan of Windows Phone and IOS being closed systems, I think you can remain open like Android while offering a great selection of apps on the store. Developers really need to get over piracy, especially platform owners and the makers of Operating Systems. I feel like there is this trend to go towards a closed OS as an easy way to combat that, rather than offering a great open experience but having a service worth paying for over piracy. For example Steam has really defeated Piracy on the PC, people still do it, they always will and it isn't always a bad thing anyways. A lot of the time people will torrent stuff and then later buy it on Steam when they know it is a product they like. If that person goes on to tell other people about it then it creates more sales.
From what I've read Symbian has this bad image of piracy but I really think that is due to a lackluster service on Nokia's end more than anything. The store needs a lot of work, while it is functioning, it does need a bit of a UI tweak which obviously wont be happening. I also feel like you have to get your apps elsewhere to test them first as there is no protection from Nokia like you get with Android where you can get a refund within a certain time in case the app doesn't work. I've bought a few apps now which just plain don't work and it has put me off buying anything else.
Back to the topic though, I've never used Symbian before or had a Nokia since the 3310 and I'm really surprised at how good it is. I said in that thread it feels like a mix between IOS and Android and it even has good functionality of it's own. Belle FP2 is either a massive step up far too late or Symbian has gotten a lot of hate for no reason, I don't know as It's the only version I've used. The core functionality is good, it is fast, it doesn't drain much battery and it does everything the other platforms do. Yeah it looks a bit drab but it's so easy to just change the theme unlike IOS and while you can do it on Android it isn't anywhere near as easy as Symbian. I really Respect Nokia for a lot of things with Symbian and while I said the store needs work, it does function. I feel like it probably lacks a lot of options like more categories due to the lack of apps on it.
I've only really got two problems with Symbian and that is the stock browser is bad, which wouldn't be a problem if Nokia was continuing development of Symbian because they could easily fix it in the future. I have switched to Opera which fixes most of those issues, though I do wish Symbian supported Flash 11 because of my next point. The second issue is lack of apps, really this is what has lead me to selling the phone come my upgrade in April. You cannot do much on the phone compared to the others because of the lack of apps, if there was Flash 11 it would be less of an issue, however not being able to watch stuff like ITV Player or TVcatchup is a big downer. The lack of games is also another depressing thing and really the lack of development on Symbian is depressing.
From what I've seen of Belle FP2, Symbian is a great starting point for Nokia's Smart Phone future, sadly it looks like it has come too late and they've always ditched it for Windows Phone, which I think is a shame. The other biggest issue Nokia had is they never really made good hardware compared to the rest in the past. They've just started making competitive Smart Phone hardware just as they killed off Symbian. If the Lumia 920 came in 2010 for example I feel like more people would have taken notice of Symbian, sadly it came to Windows Phone and not Symbian. Sadly like I said it looks like it took too long for Symbian to get good... though I'm only guessing on that as I've never used it before Belle FP2.
I do like it though and really wish'd Nokia stuck with it.

See I don't think Symbian is the problem, Belle is really nice and what Nokia have done is make it function like IOS and Android. I've used both in the past, I left IOS because I found it too restrictive and used Android ever since. Making the jump to Symbian Belle, it's pretty much the same experience but with no apps, though the core Belle experience feels more refined than Android. It probably just came too late for Nokia....
I also think Nokia hasn't made a Smart Phone to get excited for until the 920. Everything else they made was sub par, poor specs, poor screen and just very clunky and I'm guessing from reviews, Symbian wasn't good before Belle. Like I said though if they released the 920 last year on Symbian Belle instead of Windows Phone 8, I think Symbian could have survived. Really all Belle needed was the hardware and it just never got it, the 808 is great for a camera but the hardware isn't mainstream like the 920 is.
I just find it weird how Nokia handled the whole situation, it took years for them to get going and once they did they retired Symbian and never released it on a relevant Smart Phone to give it a chance.
The 808 has opened my eyes to Nokia Hardware though, it is good and well made. I'll wait to see if they release a refreshed 808 with better specs and screen this year before I upgrade as I've just seen rumours about it. I'm just not convinced about Microsoft making good on Windows Phone, I don't like the experience it currently offers and Microsoft have never delivered on anything worth while in the past apart from Windows 7. If I look at all their software, I don't remember any of it being good and now with Windows Phone being a closed experience, you're stuck with Microsoft's software.
I just think it is a shame, I really like Belle, it just needs apps and Nokia to revive development for it.

  • Firefox 3.6.8 and memory issues

After the last update to 3.6.6, I disabled plugin-container per the instructions given on the forum, and my RAM problems went away. However, after the automatic update to 3.6.8, the memory problems came back, with memory usage going up to 92%. I downgraded to 3.6.4, and turned plugin-container off again; while memory usage is currently at 84%, it is not as low as it was before the upgrade to 3.6.8. (79-80%) (There is very little difference in the websites being opened on the various tabs.)
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I upgraded to 3.6.8

ffs guys. It's a free browser. It's cool. We love it. But can we do something about memory issues? Almost every release has huge memory leaks.
How about halving the release points and focus on memory issues for the other half of the time. I am a long time user since way back in the day and it seems to me that instead of trying to release so many versions, we should be focused more fixing the current release.
I say put a moratorium on new features until bloat can be fixed. These experiences are starting to give me a hardon for IE again.
Screw new features. I can deal with plain old tabs like they are. I don't need more bells and whistles. This browser has been kicking ass and taking names for a loonnnggggg time. We don't need more bloat. Keep the security fixes coming but everything else can wait. Take a breath. Stop and smell the roses for a few weeks.

  • Why can't I change the lengh of a clip to 00:06 or anything below 1 second?

I recently upgraded from iMovie 5 to version 6, and though there are a few more bells and whistles in the newer version its less user friendly and takes longer to create a project.
    My issues are:
    1. When importing images/photos to iMovie 6 it does not set import them at the specified length or size I requested.
    2. I cannot change the clip length for a group of images, intead having to resort to doing each clip at a time, in iMovie 5 the ability to select many images and reset the clip length for the group made edititing much easier.
    3. When using Photo Settings tool (with Ken Burns not selected) it does not allow the clip length to be changed to anything less than 1 second, if I enter 00:08 a message appears saying clips must be between 00:03 to 1:00 second, even though my request falls in the the time in the message it still does not apply the request, instead it generates a unique length of 00:29?
    4. How do I keep the Photo Settings tool in view instead of having to select it each time I want to change another clip, is there a way to keep windows I use often open?
I hope some of you can help with some of these issues or share similiar experiences. I hope apple corrects these issues in a software update or the next iMove 7.

  • Ideas on good printers to use with a mac pro

    hello,
I recently purchased a mac pro but
my printer just died. never ends...
before getting a new one, does anyone has an idea on a good photo printer to use with my new beast:
    Machine Name: Mac Pro
    Machine Model: MacPro1,1
    Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
I used photoshop a lot; print documents as well; so format must be 81/2 x 11 at least. quality is a must but budget restrictions , well a must too: 300 us$ is the max i can use on this toy. any ideas?
in advance i thank you very much for any help.

MAC PRO   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi Sandrine,
After tens of thousands of image prints I use Epson
    printers exclusively, printing primarily from
Photoshop. Even all my 3D renders end up printed out
of PS. I get away with a C86 for a small printer and
use a 4800 Pro for serious larger format prints. Were
I to go for a smaller Epson today, I'd go for an
Epson Stylus Photo R260. It is new six ink technology
brought to an 8.5 x 11" printer and the reviews are
remarkable. If you want more bells and whistles, this
same technology is brought out with the ability to
print on CD/DVDs as well and has an LCD screen for
cropping and printing directly from digital cameras.
Those reside in the Epson Stylus Photo R380.
I tend to go with printers which have only those
features I need. Don't forget that the price of any
good printer doesn't reflect the cost of usage. Good
paper and ink combinations are the real cost. The
printer is just a loss leader. For a full page high
quality print, figure that you are spending $2 -
$2.50 per and you won't be unpleasantly surprised.
I'd also suggest not using 3rd party inks in these
new Epsons, even if they are offered.
    Dear Welles,
    thank you for your help.
i have been using epson for a long time and never been disappointed until recently.
the last printer i had was an epson stylus photo R340. always used their ink cartridges... it died on me 2 days ago (it was seven months old). so i am a bit cautious with epson. I will definitely look into the models you mention though.
    have a great day
    sandrine
PS. Please, let me know if you've had experience with canon inkjet printers. i heard their graphic/photo printing is very nice. which models, i have no idea. Plus, I don't know how well they get along with macpro.

  • IPod Classic and alarm settings & other ramblings

    Hi,
Question: Did anybody notice that when setting an alarm, there is no more "Bell" icon showing up on the iPod, next to the alarm to show that it is active?
I really start wondering about all those little pesky glitches/bugs/whatever which start troubleing me
that I purchased an iPod Classic right away.
Hope those things will be fixed soon:
-Correct synching (even after playing a game on the iPod)
-Correct address book label synching (private/work labels correctly set on iPod, like in address book)
-purchased games correctly displayed (preview image in games list missing)
-CoverFlow sortable by "Album Artist", like on iTunes (so it might get usefull to have this option...)
-Apple Hi-Fi additional options (like the 5th Gen iPod - it's a shame that a 400€ Box isn't supported anymore after 1 year of praise...)
-If Apple is playing out nice, bring back the Video Out for all those people having accessories now useless...
Anyway, hope there will be an FW update soon (waiting now since 2 weeks...) which addresses all those small things, to make using the iPod Classic again a good User Experience.
(Send already 2 weeks ago Feedback to Apple over all this points - No answer yet).
    Cheers,
    S.,
    Owner of
iPod 3rd Gen, iPod 4th Gen, iPod 5th Gen, iPod Classic, 2 iPod Nano's 1st Gen, PowerBook G4, MacPro Quad, 2 30" Cinema Displays and a bunch of Video Cables not working anymore with my iPod Classic....

I think many people have the same problem, looking at all those forum entries.

  • Color Laser Printer

I have been looking at reviews and am finding many old reviews but not much on the newer printers. I finally have narrowed my selections down to a HP laserjet 3700dn and a ricoh cl3000e. I am basically looking for your experiences good and bad with either one or other suggestions. I have a Powermac G5 duel 2.7 and I am looking at doing pictures for family. My wife is thinking about going into doing some digital photography and we want a good quality photo printer. I don't want an ink jet because the consumables are way more expensive over time.

I have the HP 2200dn (B&W) and the HP color LaserJet 3550n and they are both really nice printers. The 3550n is speedy because of the single pass engine and works great with OS X. The 3700 is the same printer but a bit faster and available with more bells and whistles. I highly recommend it.
