More bit rate issues

I am burning a reel on Studio Pro 3. However, the bit rate is too high. This doesn't make sense to me as it is only 5 minutes of mpeg-2 video from final cut pro. I have compressed the audio however that doesn't seem to help either. I need the quality of the image to be at it's highest so I assumed becaue it is such little runnning time that I could maximize the bit rate to 9 and put the motion estimator at best and do a two pass VBR. I am using a 4.7 GB dvd. Is there anything I can do to get the best quality image without the bit rate preventing the burning?

9mbps is overkill with VBR or CBR.
8mbps can be overkill sometimes too.
Using Compressor with DV footage, 7.0 average, with a 7.4 or 7.5 high is fine.
AC3 should be at 192 or 224kbps.
With Compressor, anything over 7.5 is just a waste of file size and doesn't make the file look any better.
See how that goes.
If you had 9mbps for video and 224 for audio, then you were maxing out the overall bitrate at 9.25mbps.
Even 8.25 might be too much on some players.
7.75 is your max, maybe 8.
Hope that helps.

  • When is the h.264 bit rate issue going to be fixed?

If you export a project in After Effects using the H.264 codec the file you export does not have the correct bitrate. Meaning if you export a video at 1mbps compression rate you will not get a video that has 1mbps bitrate. This has been an issue since day one along with header issues in the .mp4 file. Please do not tell me not to use AE to create H.264, this is what we used and works fine in CS4. The same issues arrises when you use Adobe Media Encoder CS5.
Does anyone have a solution or anyone from Adobe have any suggestions?

    Thanks but that didn't help.
I believe I have found out the actual issue. CS5 will not render a project above the lowest bitrate of the source video for H.264. So if you have a video file at 300kbps it cannot be rendered above that point. This is a problem when you understand how bitrates\codecs work. Not all codecs need an extremely high bitrate in order for the quality of the content to look good. We use the TechSmith screen capture codec a lot. This codec is create for screen capturing, it provides a low bitrate file which is small in size and easy to handle. We have been using this combination with the CS package since before it was CS. The videos we procude look great in CS4  but awful in CS5. When using mediainfo to check out a video file compressed in CS5 it gives us a Bit Rate and a Normal Bit Rate. Normal bit rate is what is requested, say 1mbps and the actual Bit Rate is what the source material was.
In any case the video files look like crap because a 250kbps .mp4 looks awful compaired to a 250kbps video using the TSCC codec. So yeah, not using CS5 and most likely won't be doing any more upgrades in a while. I'm responsible for purchasing over 10 licenses. Just wanted to let Adobe know they won't be getting that money again for a while until they figure out there compression issues.

  • Bit Rate Issues

Ok here is the problem, in both H.264 and Mpeg-4 If I set the Bit rate to say 300kbps the end file has a bit rate of 512 kbps with a total bit rate of around 700kbps. Any suggestions or solutions. My audio is set at Liner PCI at 32.kHz 16bit
its like Quicktime is overriding my bit rate

Your wondering why you bit rate is 700kbs? Probably because you using PMC for your audio. Try AAC...your audio file will be smaller...Remember you bit rate is your video and audio added together.
Open you finished video in Quicktime--->Windows-->Show Movies Properties. This will show you the bit rate for the audio and video separately.

  • Nokia E63 bit rate issue

    Hi,
I have a mp4 file with high bitrate (561kbits) during playing, It pauses/stills for a while.
E63 supports up to how many bitrate per seconds?
    Thanks in advance.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There are two converters available; ImToo (Commercial) and AnyVideoConverter aka; AVC Free (they have a free version)
Both are pretty simple to use; Just select "MP4 Profile" set the bit-rate, Screen resolution and hit convert. (i don't see anything complicated using both)
So try those, Specially AVC, due to the fact its free.
    Good Luck.

  • Bit Rate AAC Issues

I have been having some issues / confusion : First off I'm not sure if my settings are set right or not. I am importing with the AAC Encoder set to custom.
Stereo Bit Rate : 192 kbps
    Sample Rate : Auto
    Channels : Auto
Check Mark in : Use VBR
Now is this a good setting? I want @ least cd quality in an AAC format.
Issue: Not just my Imported cd tracks but the tracks purchaced from the itunes store all seem to play @ a Quiet Volume having to crank up both the Machines Volume and iTunes to almost max, plus with the EQ Preamp put to +10dB. It could just be the headphones, they are old.
Any tips or help on settings would be great. Thanks!

You're welcome. I use the default import settings of AAC 128 Kbps. This works well for me, but each person is a little bit different. For example you like 192 better.
I also use Apple Lossless for the live music I download, but when I want to take that music on my iPod I transcode it to 128 AAc.

  • Issues with bit rate on Itunes purchases

For some of my purchases I cannot seem to upgrade the bit rate from 128kbs?  How do I do this. also, some of my album purchases seem to have disappeared.  How do I get them back?  regards Edward

I know that Itune sPlus ended but I understood that you could delete your downloaded files and redownload them and they would be at 256k.  is that correct?
Edward,  Yes, if you subscribe to iTunes Match.  Look at this document, and read the section on "Can I upgrade my previously purchased music to iTunes Plus?":
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1711
iTunes Match costs $24.99 in the USA iTunes Store, probably a bit higher in the UK Store.
I have an album that seems to have disappeared from my purchases on the itunes store.  how do I get that back?
Do you mean that it disappeared from your library?  If so, and assuming it is still available in the store, you can redownload fresh copies by following the link in my earlier post.  This action does not require Match.

  • Issue with playing 320 k bit rate files on iOS 5

I was able to successfully update my iPhone 4 with the iOS 5 however to my (unpleasant) surprise I realized that all the music files of 320 K Bit rate that I had could not be played with this new OS. All other music files (of 128 K bits rate) was able to play normally.
When I attempt to play the higher bit rate ones, it doesn't give any warning or crashes. The Play symbol at the bottom changes to "Pause" indicating it's playing and when clicked again it changes to "Play" indicating it's paused. But the time slider stays at 0:00
It may be noted that the high bit rate files plays normally on the latest iTunes software on my PC running windows 7.
I haven't yet tried to remove all the paylists first and then add them back when syncing it next time. That might solve this problem but I am not sure. Even if it does, this is a major defect with iOS 5 that has gone un-tested. with the previous version, I had no problems playing the same high bit rate music files.

After I faced the above problem, I did the following:
    1. Sync the iphone after unchecking the playlist having the 320 K Bit rate music files. As expected the playlist was removed from the iPhone.
    2. Checked the playlist and then re-sync the iphone. This time when the music files were copied to the phone, all the files having a bit rate higher than 128 K were automatically converted to 128 K Bits.
The above process made these high bit rate files convert down to 128 K bits and playable on the iOS 5.
The question is why is iOS 5 not able to play the bit rate higher than 128 K Bits while the older version could? Does playing the high bit rate files offer any better sound quality on iPhone?
I have played the high bit rate on my car's audio system (Harmon Kardon premium speakers) and it definitely sounds better than it's 128 K bit equivalent.

  • Controlling output video bit rate in FCPX

I ran into a problem: I created a mp4 file with Share/Export File… (settings: Computer, H.264 Faster Encode, 1920x1080 - edited from an HD camera): its video always freezes at a definite point when played on my BD Player connected to my HDTV through HDMI (audio instead continues on the frozen image).
It seem that the issue is a sudden video bit rate pick of almost 50 Mbps while its average is around 20-30 Mbps. It is not clear to me if this freeze is caused by the BD Player or by the HDTV not being able to handle such pick.
As a test I used Compressor to control the output bit rate (settings: average 20 Mbps and pick 25 Mbps) and this seems to fix the problem. To be more certain I should do more tests, but I'm confident I found a possible solution.
I'd like to know if there is a way in FCPX to control such picks (without using Compressor), either in the Share commands (but it seems to me that they don't provide enough setting controls) or in the timeline. By watching the Video Scopes I can see a quite strong signal in the area where the output file has the bit rate pick. But I don't know any way to have a measure useful to identify them before sharing and avoid a trial and error approach...

    Below the critical point...

Tried to upload a PDF instead of PNG, but no luck. The picture shows a quite standard (I'd say...) image but with highly dense graphic of Y' component in the Y'CbCr Parade (in the limits of 0-100 IRE): much more dense than most images in the rest of the movie. So I assume this might mean a higher bit rate... but it's just an assumption.
    Let me summarize my tests:
1st test: FCPX: Share/Export File.. (settings: Computer, H.264 Faster Encode, 1920x1080)
    - copied the .mp4 file to USB drive
    - USB drive into a BD player connected to HDTV through HDMI >> freezing effect
2nd test: FCPX: Send to Compressor - Compressor: Create Blu-Ray Disk (on Hard Drive) and Video Job with standard Video settings (Automatically select bit rates = ON)
    - Played the .img disk with "Mac Blu-Ray Player" on my iMac >> same freezing effect in same position as before on HDTV
3rd test: FCPX: Send to Compressor - Compressor: Create Blu-Ray Disk (on Hard Drive) and Video Job with customized Video settings: Automatically select bit rates = OFF - Average = 20 Mbps - Maximum = 25 Mbps
    - Played the .img disk with "Mac Blu-Ray Player" on my iMac >> NO MORE freezing effect (and smaller file by 30%)
I might do more tests (mainly on my HDTV) but I believe the point is the bit rate... and the only way to control it is by using Compressor.
So now my question: is there a color setting that helps in controlling such situation ? e.g. lower saturation, or lower exposure, maybe in mid tones or highlights, or what ?
Thanks so much for your help

  • ITunes 7 and Shuffle:"Convert higher bit rate songs to 128kbps AAC" broken

This has become unusably slow in iTunes 7. Is this fixed yet? Does anyone have a workaround?

  • File sizes and bit rate slider

    Hi,
I'm having two issues I'm hoping someone can help me with..
    1) My file sizes are much bigger than they're apparently supposed to be. A 10 second clip at 720x576 takes up 32 MB. I've tried both quicktime h.264 and various avi codecs with roughly the same results. A larger 3 minute clip takes up over 500 MB. This is at 100% quality setting. I was told that they shouldn't take up more than 10% of that size so I'm not sure what's going on..
    2) In order to solve it I've been told to use quicktime h.264 and adjust the bit rate slider to specific values, but PE7 won't give me that option, I can only move the quality slider. Setting that to a low value gives me extremely poor quality video. Using Sorenson codec allows me to set a bit rate, but at the recommended 1800 k/s I still end up with 22 MB for 10 seconds.
These videos were made through stills and transitions.. When I make similar stuff with windows movie maker the files are much smaller so something weird is going on for sure.
Hopefully I'm making a really obvious error that is easy to point out :D

This is for web use, but mind you there are plenty of sites that offer hd video so it's not a particularly high resolution..
I just don't understand why these files are so big considering the maths.
I've had 1800 kbit/s recommended as a decent compression level for web use. That's 225 kbyte/s or roughly 2.5 MB for 10 seconds. Yet as described above the files are 10 times that size. I don't understand why this is when I actually used this exact compression level.
Further, I was only able to specify bitrate compression with the Sorenson codec, not h.264, which is the one I actually want to use (and which I've been told should have adjustable bitrate in PE7 making me doubly confused..)

  • Bit Rate and Encoding

    Hey y'all--
I've read all the posts about this, but can someone please give me a simple answer (if one exists)?
When I format (encode) my project, I would like to start with high settings then back-off when I run out of room on the DVD. The media (aside from Menus) is a series of 3min animated films (4 now, more later). My encode settings are as follows:
    FIELD ORDER: Auto
    MODE: Two Pass VBR
    BIT RATE: 5.0
    MAX BIT RATE: 7.5
    MOTION ESTIMATION: Best
Is this a good place to start or should I up the bit rate settings? I'm just looking for a benchmark.
    Thanks in advance.

Did you Google for a bitrate calculator as I suggested?
    http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm
With an audio bitrate of 192kbps (i.e. Dolby Digital encoded by Compressor 2 or A.Pack), it tells me that 90 minutes of video should be encoded at an AVERAGE bitrate of 6.6Mbps to fill a single DVD-R.
If you want, you can do that as a constant bitrate encode of 6.6. You can also do a two-pass VBR encode with average of 6.6 and maximum of (say) 7.5 (because as David points out again, there are issues with high bitrate playback off of DVD-Rs).
If you want to get more on the disc, encoded at a lower average bitrate.
If you want to split it across two discs and encode everything at a high constant bitrate, you can do that too.
If you are going to get this disc REPLICATED and therefore not have the DVD-R playback issues, you can encode all video at 9.5Mbps and fit 40 minutes onto a DVD-5, or 80 minutes onto a DVD-9.
Or you can lower bitrates and resolutions dramatically and fit a lot more onto a single disc.
It completely depends on your project, your delivery requirements, and your quality requirements.

  • Import songs at selected bit rate

i thought when i set the preferance for importing music say at 128 kbs as a mp3 that was how all the songs would be imported.so why do they still import at differant bit rates and how can i get them to 128 kbs?

I see missing burn settings, too, & I'm getting a message about it each time iTunes is started. I have one (actually more than 1) unburned purchases from Apple Store, which downloaded as protected media (unplayable outside iTunes, even in my registered & paid for version of QuickTime - & that's a first). So, the repair needs to be done, at least temporarily, to burn out the purchases.
But, after the update the optical devices were no longer in the UI, so, I removed some things, manually, one of which is shown in the iTunes credits section as related to their burning software, at which time the optical drives again seem to be available to me, the owner, if not to iTunes when I authorize it for my usage. Clearly, this is an issue with Windows, DRM or some, other malicious software, otherwise, iTunes' use of MS approved software for burning would be no issue.
However, the import settings remain. They could be useful if one used iTunes to sync to iPod, I suppose, although other software is also capable of syncing to iPod. Other features of iTunes should also be unaffected, like the radio or podcasts or books or other feeds.
Browsing the Apple store is almost pointless under these conditions unless one turns on the option to see only DRM free media --- & there is precious little of that. I was actually beginning to use iTunes & the Apple store almost exclusively for that (& considering a Mac laptop) because of that reliability; apparently, my choice to never give up my freedom of choice to one provider is not without wisdom, since we just never really know what to expect.
Anyway, this looks more & more like some server side mal-usage of DRM.

  • Exporting sound for dvd studio 4. Studio 4 is only accepting ac3, saying bit rate too high in ALL other formats. However, aa3 auto levels the sound, which is not wanted, and it also drops the volume by about 40%, also not wanted. How do I get around this.

I have successfully used various formats and bit rates of sound in DVD Pro 4 with no problems, AIFF, WAVE, (obviously preferable as they give a good quality of sound as intended). However, of late, DVD Pro 4 refuses AIFF, WAVE, and anything higher than the lowest ac3 bit rate/format. This is rendering an aweful sound, auto volume leveled - which gives a very unprofessional fluctuation in volume and making a ionsense of careful sound editing. It also renders the volume at about 30% - 40% lower than the original master requiring huge increase in amplifier volume settings to get a decent volume.I have tried every format and bit rate, but FCP and DVD Pro 4 will only accept the lowest ac3 setting.
I have customers awaiting video of their concerts, can not deliver with this sound issue.
very much appreciate some assistance here.

I suggest posting this in the Final Cut Studio forum where regular users of DVDSP are more likely to see your post and respond. When you do, I would expect someone will ask why you arent using Compressor in your workflow…)
    Good luck.

  • H.264 vs H.264 Blu-ray VBR 2-pass bit rate presets ...

If I select H.264 1080i, 29.97fps VBR 2-pass PP CS6 is recommending a target bit rate of 30 mbps and a max of 40 mbps.  However, if I switch to H.264 Blu-ray I get 25/30.  I was curious if there are logical reasons here for the difference.
In case it matters ... home movie (birthday parties, spring break trip, etc.), target output is playback on PC and PS3, and then Blu-ray disc.   I've given up on the one file concept and was leaning towards an .mp4 and then separate .m4v/.wav files to feed to Encore.   Curious what you would set for bit rates, if you would go VBR 2-pass, etc. (encoding time is not an issue).
    Thanks

Blu-ray has bitrate limitations that computer files don't.  (That's my guess on why the difference.)
Anyway, a preset is nothing more than a starting point, not the final authority on what you can export.

  • Flash Video Encoding Bit Rate

    Hi All,
I have been working with Flash video telephony for many years now and its great to see AEC, AGC (acoustic gain control), UDP and H264 have arrived.
I spend much time simulating network conditions and devising algorithms which can produce video quality equal to Skype.
There are plenty of stats availabile (packet loss, in/outbound bit rate, frames dropped and so on) BUT....
The big issue is the inability for the flash video encoder(s) (H264 seems no better) to obey the target bit rate.
Rather than address this I believe Flash chooses to drop frames when it detects issues in local upload congestion.
However the ability to match the receivers download requirements is not possible. The encoder frequently bursts way above the configured bit rate resulting in packets loss or latency (UDP vs TCP). We end up having to go well below the target bit rate to compensate and take in to account that the higher the encoding quality the more likely flash is to burst over the specified rate. The whole effort is wasted unless this is addresses and Flash 11/H264 is worse than before.
If we have grossly overlooked something or you would like to see a link to a working example of the problem please let me know.
    Kind Regards
