More consistent ETTL II flash exposure with 580exII or 430exII

Canon stated that the ETTL II is designed to treat the exposure as a "plane" and not as "point" to correct the inconsistent exposures due to various reflections.
When I shoot in large, dark room, the subjects at the front rows are well exposed, however the 2nd row subjects, only inches behind, are underexposed by 1-11/2 fstop. Is this a calibrating sync issue ?
I used the 17-40mm f4 and 70-200mm f4 IS which have "distance infomation" incorporated into the ETTL II to prevent overexposure. Is it possible that this feature was over compensated? I have sent in for calibration several times already, why is it not fixed?
Does the 6D or 5DmkIII have different design in ETTL II flash?
I have tried to vary the "evaluative" meter, the "average" meter, AV mode, Tv mode, Manual mode which doesn't seem to make a different in consistency. I noticed that some other cameras have spot meter for flash, and tend to have much brighter background than my 5DmkII at the same camera setting. I can try to use the flash memory lock which sometimes can not afford the added steps.

Flash Exposure Compensation Value Not Displaying in EXIF Info

When adjusting Flash Exposure Compensation on Nikon D4 camera (not on the Speedlight) the set value is not showing in EXIF Field in Aperture 3.4.1. It always shows as a 0 value regardless of camera setting. When I open the .nef in Nikon View NX (v2.2.4) the set value for Flash Exposure Compensation is accurately shown in the EXIF info. Have tried editing the Aperture EXIF fields (removing Flash Exp Comp and re-entering it) but, to no avail. Has anyone seen this, or know of a solution? Are any D800 users seeing the same thing?

Grey Screen with Flashing Folder with Question Mark

Hi,
I need some help with an issue I'm having on my Mid-2012 Macbook Pro (13"; OSX 10.9.2; 8GB RAM). I've had issues with this Macbook for the past year. I've worked with Apple Support and had it into the Mac Store prior to the warranty expiring (Dec 2013). I have the exact same model with all of the same specs that my employer purchased at the same time for work as my work computer, and I haven't had any issues with that one.
Previously, the system would slow down excessively and eventually start hanging. Occasionally the screen would start flashing. Apple phone support had me wipe the hard drive and re-install the OS and all of my file, apps, and setting from my Time Machine backup. That worked for about four months, and then it started again. Since it was getting close to the warranty expiration, I took it to an Apple Store. They ran a bunch of diagnostics, said the hardware was all fine but the OS needed to be re-installed. They did that in early Dec, and everything was cool again until about three days ago. Three days ago, it started slowing down and freezing again (even when doing non-memory intensive tasks such as broswing the web with only a couple of tabs open and no other applications open). Last night, it froze hard and wouldn't shut down, so I had to cold boot it. When I tried to power it back on, it came to the grey screen with the flashing folder with the question mark (which I know means it can't find the boot sector). I waited until this morning, and it stil wouldn't boot. I then rebooted into Startup Manager, and the HDD was there. I selected the HDD, and it booted fine and ran fine for a couple of hours (I was able to do a Time Machine backup). Then it froze up solid again. I waited for an hour or so before cold booting (don't like doing that), and when I tried rebooting, I got the flashing folder with the question mark. I tried booting into the Startup Manager again, but this time, my HDD wasn't listed. I then booted into the OSX Recovery utility (CMD R on boot), went into the Disk Utility hoping to do a disk repair, but my HDD wasn't listed. I have an external SATA to USB adapter, so I pulled the HDD, hooked it to a USB port on my other (identical except it doesn't have problems) Macbook Pro. Once my other Macbook booted, the HDD from the bad Macbook Pro showed up fine. I ran a verify and repair disk on the HDD from the bad Macbook, and it didn't show any issues.
So I figured I'd be really brave. I took the HDD from the bad Macbook Pro and put it in my work (good) Macbook Pro (I took the HDD out of my working work Macbook Pro). It booted fine. I then did the verify and repair disk (again no errors) and verify and repair permissions (it found a few, but no more than it has in the past). I ran it that way for about an hour with no issues. That led me to believe that the HDD for my personal Macbook was fine, and it must be an issue with the SATA cable or the mainboard.
Here's where it gets odd. I put the HDD from my work Macbook Pro into the bad Macbook Pro thinking it wouldn't even recognize it. It did recognize it, and it booted fine. I ran it like that for about 30 minutes. It did have a couple of short freeze ups, but it didn't lock up solid. I didn't want to push my luck and possibly damage the HDD for my work Macbook, so I shut down the bad Macbook Pro ended the experiment at that point.
I put the original HDD back in the Macbooks where they originally came from. I then ran the Apple Hardware Test (press and hold D on startup) on the bad Macbook Pro; I did the extended testing option. It ran for about an hour, but it didn't find any issues with the bad Macbook Pro.
I put the HDD from the bad Macbook back in my working Macbook and wiped the disk and reinstalled OSX from a Time Machine Backup from last week (before the problems occured). Put it back in the bad Macbook and still no luck. Finally I tried resetting the PRAM because I saw that as one of the options on this discussion board.
I've searched and read everything I can find related to this, but I can't find anything that works, and I'm at my wits end. Can anyone point me in a direction of what might be wrong and what else to try?

You performed thorough and methodical troubleshooting, and this appears to be the most important result:

Given compatible hardware, you ought to be able to swap hard disk drives in exactly that manner, so it shouldn't surprise you that it worked. However, installing the "known good" HDD in the problem machine should not have resulted in any freeze-ups at all.
You can conclude the hard disks (both of them) are serviceable and whatever fault exists probably lies elsewhere. Often the SATA cable is damaged or not seated properly, and is likely to fail more than anything on the logic board. Inspect the logic board's SATA connections and make sure there are no contaminants or damage. The two drives and two logic boards are going to have slightly different component tolerances, so perhaps the defective one is simply exceeding some limit.
Apple Hardware Test is very cursory and essentially tests for the presence of operable hardware. It is far from an exhaustive test, and only a report of a failure can be relied upon for accuracy. For a more thorough test you would need to have Apple evaluate it using the time-consuming Apple Service Diagnostics. Even then, they may come up without a clue, and eventually someone will suggest a logic board replacement which can be expensive.
It is an unusual problem, and I don't know how much time Apple would invest in diagnosing it before they conclude you really ought to buy a new Mac instead. They might surprise you though in that a "depot repair", if yours is eligible, is a very cost effective option so consider it.
Given your ability you might also consider purchasing a replacement logic board from PowerbookMedic, or even sending it to them for a flat rate repair.

The only code in the style.xml that looks like it might be realted is line 12 <playOptions playMode="pause"/>, changing that to "play" does nothing.

Just being clear about your situation. When you hold down Option during boot it does not show a system volume or a recovery volume from which to boot. At that point if you select a network boot and you do not see a spinning globe that persists there a good while as it loads the recovery partition over the network. True?
A couple of more thinks to try:
Disconnect all of your external devices.
Reset PRAM
Boot with the option key again.

Flashing folder with a question mark in it when starting up

Hi, I own a white MacBook that is fairly new. When I boot it there is a flashing folder with a question mark in it. I read here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1440 what to do.
I inserted my Leopard disc, held C while booting and then opened Disc Utilitiy. But the only images to appear in the left column of Disc Utility is the "Mac OS X Install DVD". So I tried resetting the PRAM by holding down cmd-opt-R-P while booting.
Then I tried the same thing again but still there is only the install disc in the left column. If I go to Startup Disc there is only the install CD and "Network Startup".
Now, if I were to reinstall the system as it says in step 4 of the guide, what will happen to my data? I read that this error could be a sign of the hard drive crashing, and with no back up I really don't want that to happen.
So, is it safe to reinstall the system, or what do you suggest my next step to be?

I tried booting in Safe Mode by holding down shift while starting, but it just went to the flashing folder with the ?-mark in it. Then I tried to enter single-user mode by holding down cmd-S while starting (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492), in order to try the fsck-thingy, but still just the flashing ?.
When I start my computer it makes bad noises from the bottom right side. I fear that the HD is broken , it sounds as if it is working very hard, making scratchy and clicky noises.
I also tried using the computer as a FireWire target in order to retrieve some data (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661). When I bootet the "broken" computer and held down T the FireWire symbol appeared on the screen. But on the host computer I could not find the target computer.
Any more ideas?

Flash fps with CP3

Let me first state that I know enough about Flash CS3 to be
dangerous. I managed to create a .swf file that displays different
facts. Each fact is set to display for 30 frames and I set the fps
to 4. This provided the correct timing to be able to read the text.
My idea is that I would then import this .swf file as an animation
into my title. The problem is that it appears that the animation is
using the fps that the Captivate Title is using and changing to
fast to read. Do I have to develop the .swf with the same fps as
the captivate title?

As I understand it, you are trying to create some "factoids"
which are displayed on one or more slides under a Flash-generated
title(????)
Try creating the entire project in Captivate, stay out of
Flash CS3 entirely, and don't change the default frame rate (of 30
fps).
What it sounds like you are trying to do should be relatively
simple, but working in Flash for something like this is likely to
be an exercise in masochism.
Just my take on it, and if you insist that editing in Flash
is necessary, I'll try to help - I'm just trying to avoid a lot of
unnecessary hard work - and confusion - for you.

Can I bundle flash player with a free downlodable gaming service that requires flash? Or can I download it for the user without making users to step out from my product to a completely different flow?

We have a free downloadable gaming service that requires flash player in order to operate properly.
I am trying to figure our how can I make users who don't have flash to download it, but I don't want these users to leave my service and start a different download flow in a different website (adobe's) .
I thought about several different options but don't know what would be considered legal or legit:
1. download flash along with my product- this means I will have to add another offer screen to my installation? if so, it will damage my conversion.
2. downloading flash for the user without consent- probably will result with AV alerts
3. open an iframe for users who don't have flash where I'll ask users to download flash--> that still will redirect users to adobe website to complete the process, which will damage my usage...
any comments on the above or additional ideas?

Unfortunately, I don't think that our license currently grants the rights that you're looking for. We do allow for the inclusion of original installers on physical media to address the situation of installation where an Internet connection is not guaranteed to be available; however, the Adobe download center serves an important role in the cost-recovery efforts for the continued development, maintenance and distribution of Flash Player, which is a tremendously expensive undertaking. I think it's unlikely that we would agree to allow the inclusion of Flash Player installers in scenarios where the host installer requires an internet connection.
Here is a brief summary of the rights granted by this license:
Licensee is permitted to distribute Adobe Web Players to multiple clients in a closed intranet environment.
Licensee is permitted to distribute Adobe Web Players to multiple end-users by including the Player installers on CDs, DVDs or other physical media.
Usage of Adobe Web Players is only permitted for supported platforms; usage rights on non-PC devices or embedded systems are not granted by this license.
Licensee must use the installers as-is without modification.
Licensees, at their discretion, are entitled to display the Flash Enabled and/or Shockwave logos on products or intranet sites according to the Style Guide.
On the plus side, you don't have to worry about serving your users outdated or vulnerable Flash Player versions, and keeping those embedded copies constantly updated would be a lot of overhead.
Chrome and Internet Explorer on Win8+ always have Flash Player built-in, so those users are generally going to be in good shape (and you shouldn't redirect them to the download anyway, because we'll just give them a message about it already being installed). IE11 eliminates JavaScript support for conditional comments and various other methods for fingerprinting and targeting IE with IE-specific logic, so you'll want to pay attention to that experience, particularly on Win8+ (i.e. your detection logic might need to be tweaked on this config, if it's depending on isMSIE to do the correct thing... there is a lot of busted Flash detection in the world on this target at the moment...)
For NPAPI browsers (Safari, Firefox), users are going to have to close the browser to complete the install process, so I don't think that offering the download in an iframe is going to buy you much, and would probably make it more difficult to complete the installation steps, ultimately doing more harm than good.
In the case of Safari, the installer re-launches Safari at the end of the installation process, and it does so without reopening all of the previously opened tabs. I'm hoping that we won't have to live with that issue much longer, but I want to be transparent about the impact to your user experience. Safari users are going to lose the tab with your site in it during the installation process no matter what.
There's also an install mechanism called Express Install, which you can invoke automatically when you detect that Flash Player is not installed, or is below the version that you require. Off the top of my head, I don't know exactly what happens in every possible install scenario (patch update vs. feature update, by OS and browser). I think some configs require you to restart and others like IE on Windows don't. It's all dictated by browser limitations, which are constantly moving targets.
In short, we recommend that everyone use SWFObject2 for detecting Flash from JavaScript, and they make it pretty easy to invoke upgrades via ExpressInstall.

9.0.115 and 9.0.124 and both fail with the policy permission error.
I also tried with and without your crossdomain.xml file but
with the same result. It looks like this file is intended for URL
policy, instead of socket policy. Recently Adobe separated the two.
When I run with the files installed on my dev PC, it does
work, which makes sense because the flash player isn't loaded from
an unknown domain.
I did get one step closer. If a crossdomain.xml in the server
root exists and the socketpolicy file is loaded from the app folder
then the first two warnings disappear. The logs now show:

UPDATE: When serving up the policy file on port 843 using the

I keep having consistent problems using this new motherboard with a Dual Core CPU
My new motherboard keeps crashing randomly while watching video online.
I can watch a video for about 2 min or even 20min and then the PC randomly crashes
I get this weird mosaic pattern on the screen whenever it crashes and then I have to press Reset to Reboot
And it **only** crashes after streaming a video on any of the websites, YouTube, CBS.com, NBC.com, Hulu.com etc, etc
My last PC never crashed while watching a video online - it was just slow since Adobe player is a hog -- and it was still a 1.8GHZ CPU !!
My last PC is still using version 10.1 for the Adobe Flash player -- and it ***never*** crashes
The most I ever see happen on that one is that the player might occasionly crash in the video window and the error message says to reload the Flash player.
Then I tried this remedy of disabling the Hardware Acceleration in the Adobe Settings -- but no luck still.
I even downgraded to 10.1, then 10.0 and it still keeps getting these random crashes while watching video
I'm wondering if WinXP 32bit is really compatible with Adobe Flash when using a Dual Core CPU
Before I plunk down $100 for Win7, I'm thinking about trying Ubuntu and see what luck I have.
I haven't seem anything to the contrary yet.

How exactly does that "crash" manifest itself? What exact error message are you getting?
Have you tried to update the device drivers for your graphics/video/display adapter?

Currently, there is no document explaining Flash Access interaction with FMS. Also, FMS and FAXS do not communicate. The client communicates with both.
For Video-On-Demand (VOD) assets, they are encrypted with a license and policy. The player connects to FMS to start streaming the file, once the player starts the playback, the policy kicks in, and then the player contacts FAXS using the licensing info in the file. So the player communicates with both FMS and FAXS – the servers don’t communicate with each other.
So FAXS (and FMRMS, which is what version 1.x was called) only worked for the VOD case. Now with FAXS 2.0 for Protected Streaming you can use DRM for both Live and VOD HTTP streaming cases – but not for Live RTMP streaming. Flash files with right click imported in dreamweaver files

Flash files created with Captivate which contain rightclick
functionality are imported to html files created in Dreamweaver. In
other words, I don't use the html created by Captivate but another
html file to build up a whole course. But now a couple of those
flash files contain a right click and obviously I have to adjust
the dreamweaver file with some of the script that William Heinz has
created. I am not an HTML expert and I am not 100% confident that I
can do with just endless try&error. Could anyone give me some
hints?
I suppose I need to use the second bit of William's article
"the more complex requirement".

I have started from scratch and created a blank html with
dreamweaver and inserted the flash file (with right click
animation) created with Captivate.
Then I made the adjustments as per Heinz and also included a
ID=Captivate1 as the RightClick.js refers to that.
The main difference between this html file and the html file
created with Captivate, is that the Captivate one also has
writedocument bit.
Anyway, is there anybody in the world who can give me
atip/hint/suggestion?????

Urgent: Flash CMS with Actionscript 3.0/PHP/MySQL

Hello everybody. I'm new to this community and I'm actually relatively new to flash and actionscript but I could say I have fair knowledge about them. So anyway, I usually build flash websites the traditional way using timeline animation and scripting. Today I had a job interview and they said they're looking for someone who can develop any web design into a Flash CMS with a back-end office for the client to edit the content without having to edit the FLA file or any code.
Accordingly, I'd like to know where and how to start. What are the main concepts I should follow/adapt? Are there any good detailed tutorials out there that I could read/watch?

The method i showed above does have a front end and a back end. The code i posted above would be part of the image module in the back end for deleting images.
1. You don't put images and files in the database, you create an uploader that uploads the files (pictures, whatever) onto the server and then writes an entry into the database telling it where the picture is stored, what the name of the file is, what type it is, whatever you need. Then when your website connects to the database and downloads the info and stuffs it into arrays, it iterates through the photo array and downloads the photos as needed using the URL you stored.
2. Loading into the database is covered with the above tutorial but i'll post my database retrieval code anyway.

flash CMS isn't well covered, i spent a long time looking for tutorials and i definitely didnt find any that worked well. If you're still working through the basics like AS3 tweens, loaders, and loops, then you're going to want to figure those out first. Those are supported well online, though.
