More Crazy pdf problems.

Help! I'm running InDesign CS6 (version 8.0.1 on Mac OS 10.8.2) and having problems with re-exporting pdfs.  First time around is no problem, but if I need to update a pdf (ie, save over the original pdf) I'm left staring at the Multicoloured Beachball of Despair for 5 minutes.  Eventualy it sorts itself out and produces a (perfectly good) pdf.  It makes no difference if I export the pdf under a different name, to a different location or even onto a different drive. Similarly, I can rename the InDesign file, but the result is the same.
Any ideas?

Since my last post was obviously too long! My problem is that I need to use a ServletOutputStream to write a pdf (in the form of a byte array) to the client. This seems to require the request url to end in '.pdf'. Unfortunately WL Portal4 'masks' the URL meaning that it ends in the session ID NOT '.pdf'. If I go from webflow to a redirection jsp and then use response.sendredirect to go to the servlet, I can end in .pdf but have now lost my PipelineSession and can't retrieve the ByteArray! Has anyone got any experience of writing a pdf in this manner from a portal 4 application?

  • One or more Adobe PDF extensions are disabled - Citrix Metaframe Environment

*NOTE* we're still in the testing phases of this project.
We've have an ASP based application within our system. This app launches PDF documents in the browser during processing.
2 of the 12 Citrix clients running tests are now reporting that when they get to this portion of the tests they get the error message:
"One or more Adobe PDF extensions are disabled" and cannot proceed until they exit the app and IE 7, go into Tools - Manage Add-Ons and enable the Adobe PDF add-on.
This works for their current session but when they log out and log back in the following day the Adobe PDF add-on is again disabled.
Is there a registry entry for this add on? The users are working with roaming profiles so I'm wondering if this is the culprit but don't want to have to rebuild their profile as a solution. When this app goes live we'll be dealing with over 1000 users and if this still happens we could be looking at a great deal of profile rebuilds.
    Thanks in advance
    Joe

I installed 8.1.2 this morning. Later, while trying to print a page from a catalog I got the message "One or more Adobe PDF Extensions are disabled." It then proceded to tell me how to fix the problem.
When I got to the "Manage Add-ons" list 100% of them were enabled ... not a single one disabled !
I really don't want to use the option to "not show this message again" as some day it might really count, neither do I want to see the error message every time I print something.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • Illustrator Save to PDF problems

I have Illustrator CS 14.0.0 and Acrobat Pro 9 (9.1.1 to be specific) extended and I cannot save the pdf format from Illustrator. I try over and over and it just does not work... it just locks up Illustrator forcing me to use the Windows XP task manager to kill Illustrator becuase it is simply frozen and I have no other options. The failure is happening with large and small files of any complexity. I would like to make use of the streamlined workflows in CS4... but his problem is big headache - especially if I would like to include special aspects of Illustrator features in the PDF file. The failure happen with save-as and with the basic save PDF. I was able to open (more or less like an import) the .ai file after saving from within Acrobat and that seems to be a work around for now. Is ther any updates for Acrobat or Illustrator to fix this save as PDF problem inside Illustrator CS4??

I am experiencing exactly the same problem as reported in this thread.  I am using AI CS4.  When I try to save to PDF the programme freezes making it necessary to use the task manager to kill it.  I have been trying to identify the folders where the preferences are held but on this computer running windows xp the folder names do not match those in the thread.  Is there a specific file name that I can search for?

  • PDF problem part 2...

I guess a lot of people are having pdf problems.
When I export a pdf of a Travel Journal doc and view with adobe reader 7.0, the borders on the photos are not there.
What is the word on this?
As you can see I don't have Tiger /PDF-X.
    Thanks

Not certain if this is quite the same thing, but.......
I have found problems when exporting to pdf, not when I open in Preview but when the person I am emailing the file to opens it in Acrobat, as all drop shadows are then lost, this makes professional printing difficult.
Resolved it for the moment by:
    1. exporting to pdf as normal
    2. using Graphic Converter which comes bundled with OSX to create a PSD file and sending that electronically. Slight problem was that the size of the file increased from 3mb to about 27mb, so had to download a free copy of Cyberduck ftp programme too. In fact saving it to jpeg was just about as good.
    3. you do have to do one page at a time but it works.

  • Do white new iPad's have more light bleed problems?

I have exchanged 3 white 64GB wifi only new iPad's and will be exchanging for my 4th one today. are there more light bleed problems with white iPad's? I don't know how many times i will have to exchange until I get a good one. can someone show me of a white ipad that has no defects what so ever.

I just want to mention that if the DSL light isn't on, it is definitely the phone line, however it is not always the provider's fault. Remember they are responsible for the line from the pole to the house, but not the inside wiring. If your phone line is unplugged from the jack, the DSL light will not be on. To be sure that it is SBC's fault, go and test the connection at the d-marc box outside the house.
Take your laptop, your modem and a phone line and plug it in out there. If you don't get the DSL light, it is definitely their problem. If you do outside, but not in the house, and you call them out, you will get charged for the service call.
Also the built in ethernet cards, more commonly referred to as airport cards, are not really delicate per se, but the wire for the antennae connection is most definitely. Only if you removed yours which you would have to if you wanted to add RAM, would you have any reason to be concerned about possibly damaging it. SBC telephone tech support is always showing off their lack of knowledge.

  • Seeking more input on PDF problem

This is an overspill from a discussion in the Adobe Reader forum. Several users have reported that recent updates to Adobe Reader and Acrobat (acrobat pro X 10.1.13 and adobe reader 11.0.10) are rejecting "DIN" fonts in PDF files. One user has posted a sample file. I have downloaded the file and can find nothing wrong with it. The single embedded font appears to be a subsetted font in normal type 1 format. I have not been able to find a problem. Perhaps if anyone has more tools than me and time to spare they can take a look, and we can establish whether this is a PDF fault, a font fault, or a viewer fault.
    File: https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/cb52fa8f-6f8d-4eea-800c-3dc082afa9d7
    Thread: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1661598

I posted the following answer in the original thread:
The problem is simple - the font in the provided PDF is invalid/broken.  Earlier versions of Acrobat & Reader could actually crash later in the session having read that font data, due to the incorrect information contained inside. As such, we now recognize the problem earlier on and prevent the bad font from loading - and inform you accordingly.
Since InDesign has no problem using this font but applications using Apple Quartz do, it leads me to believe that the fault is in Quartz and it's (lack of) support for that very old Postscript font.  While I can't speak on any authority, I would suspect that moving to a modern font format (such as OpenType) would most likely solve your problem.

  • More PDF problems

I cannot save any Illustrator file in PDF format.  Software freezes and although task manager says that it is running it is NOT.  I have to stop all threads and restart.  I am on W7 and using CS5.  I have a printed connected.  I have tried renaming AIprefs.  Please help - URGENT!

No, I am saving to PC disk.  I have also noticed that the issue only occurs with some files.  I have managed to open some of my older work and save with no problem.  Is it possible that some of the contents of my illustrator files are corrupt.  I suspect it is files that one of my colleagues has created on a MAC that is causing the problems for me.

  • Generate large pdf problem

    HI,
I have a report that will generate more than 40000 pages.......I know it is crazy ><
Everytime, the report runs, it will stop in the middle and the forms (which called the report) will be closed and no file was generated.
I just wonder it is because the report too big or not? Are there any ways to fix the problem ?
    Thanks!

Yes, I have already pass in parameters...however, based on the users requirenment, there are still many pages generated, and they want to have it in one pdf file.
And the pdf was not generated when run in report builder, and report builder was closed automatically.

  • Export to PDF problems

Much of our workflow (Prepress) involves taking in client files, laying them up in InDesign (either for sizing, position, or to build versions), and then submitting that file to our RIP.
Exporting to PDF is quick, allows for the preservation of transparency, allows you to bypass InDesign's faulty color management UI, and can be batched via plug-ins like Batch Output. But, InDesign can cause a number of issues with the resulting PDFs. CS4 seems to be particularly bad in handling subset fonts. It will create documents that appear in Acrobat 8 to have the "undefined character", but look perfectly fine in Acrobat 9 (ID CS4 is the culprit here - it doesn't happen in CS3).
I've had elements drop-out, transparencies disappear, and previews corrupted. Is there an export method that is stable and reliable? Or do we have to take a step backward to using the Print command and then Distilling?

What is to be done to ensure that PDFs from ID CS4 output correctly from a commercial printer?
We have recently had a costly problem with two PDF ads (producer: Acrobat Distiller 8.1.0 Win) that I placed in a ID CS4 layout (Mac) and then exported to a new PDF 1.3 (producer: PDF library 9).
Note: I have used the same ads before with InDesign CS3/Acrobat 8 workflow and they previewed and printed w/o problems!
The new exported PDF from InDesign CS4 looked correct in Acrobat 9, but this time a few random characters from subset fonts (Swiss and Zurich) were missing in the printed ads. This was one costly mistake!
After checking up the scarce information on this problem on the internet I opened the problematic InDesign CS4 PDF layout in Acrobat Reader 8 and the characters in the ads that previewed correctly in Acrobat 9, but were missing in print, were missing here as well!
Then I tried to print the ID CS4 PDF layout from both Acrobat 8 and 9 to a HP PostSript2 laser printer and got missing characters from Acrobat 8 but all correct characters from Acrobat 9.
This is a really disturbing problem since we have little control over how PDF ads that we get are produced as well as over the offset printing (RIP) workflow.
In a nutshell, PDF production process that once worked in CS3 does not work reliably any more in CS4 and the only variable changed is the CS3 to CS4 upgrade on our side.
    Please help!

  • Indesign CS4/CS3 and Export to PDF problems

    Hello,
I have been having problems with both Indesign CS3 and CS4 and exporting large documents to a PDF-file. Exporting halts with error messages like: "Failed to Export the PDF file" in CS4 or "Error encountered while reading JPEG image" in CS3.
Problem can be corrected by simply closing InDesign and restarting it and opening the same file again. It appears that problem occurs more often the file is large. Any suggestions how to fix this problem?
I'm using Vista 64-bit and have 8GB memory.

Handling of missing links HAS changed, and in my opinion for the worse, but at the request of users, so that missing links no longer open the Links panel automatically or ask you to update on opening as they used to, though you should still receive a warning that the links are missing UNLESS YOU HAVE TURNED IT OFF IN YOUR PREFERENCES. It's on by default and you will find the option under the file handling section.
The rationale is that many workflows do not require that links be intact to accomplish the current editing, and longer documents with hundreds of missing links used to take many minutes to open while ID searched, essentially costing those users lots of money.
IF you have stored the links in the same directory as the .indd file, and IF you have moved the entire directory and IF you have enabled finding missing links when opening files, InDesign will find and update the locations for the links when the file is opened. If ID is unable to locate a link, because it is not in the current directory or a subfolder, you will see a warning message (in the past you would have had the option to browse for the missing files), and you must open the links panel if you wish to fix them manually.
In my opinion this is a very acceptable situation, and a great benefit to all types of workflows. I need to know links are modified or missing, so I've left that enabled. Those who don't need to know are no longer bothered or delayed. I suggest you pay a visit to the preferences and make sure that missing/modified checks are enabled, and if you are still having problems then your links aren't stored in the same directory, and that has always been an issue in ID when things get moved.

  • Static/Dynamic PDF problem with Forms 7.0

    Hi all
I wonder if anyone has an answer to this?
I'm having problems with getting the instance manager to work correct in a couple of forms. It works great if I preview in Designer (8.1) or render through ES 8.2, but since we haven't upgraded our production environments yet, I'm stuck with Forms 7.0 there. And when I try to render with that, the form is simply not working as it should...
My guess is that Forms 7.0 chooses to make the form static instead of dynamic, but how to change this behaviour from the xdp? I've checked all the options of making it a dynamic xdp via Forms->Properties and checked just about everything I can come up with, but it's simply not working right now... anyone with ideas?
What I'm trying to do is to hide subforms depending on what the user has chosen in a different form (html), so that the user won't see irrelevant data. It's been done before but now it seems like Forms 7.0 wants to run the forms static always.
I've contacted Adobe support for a week ago but still haven't got anything from them leading me the right way. That's the reason I'm now asking here if anyone has any good idea...
A bit more information about what I've tried:
When I set min instances to 1, they are all visible but then they don't hide.
If I don't set minimum instances to 1, they don't display at all in forms 7.0 when choice Repeat subform for each item is set.
Using initialCount set to 1 do no good.
Doesn't matter if I use setInstances, addInstance or removeInstance as far as I've been able to see. I have also tried using presence = "hidden"; but with no luck.
If the prefill xml file is using appropriate xml syntax, it shows correct number of subforms but since I also wants to hide irrelevant subforms, it's not an acceptable solution.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

Yes. I could add an "Of course" but it has happened before that it's something that simple. Been scratching my head for at least 4 hours just today and at least the same amount of hours before so I think I've narrowed out all the simple stuff but I might have missed one..
Any more tips? One strange issue is the fact that the form behaves different if the prefill xml file is structured in different ways. Nothing to do with prefilling, just how the PDF itself behaves.

  • PDF Problem or is it me !!!!

In the past I would copy text from a multi-column pdf...(using Preview)
    • Go to Menu>Tools>Text Tool
    • all I had to do is option-drag as I select words and/or columns
    • Then it is then copied to the Clipboard
    • the Paste command then puts it into your text file....
Nothing gets copied to the Clipboards !!!!!
...... it no longer works ..... what step am I missing..... My copy/paste shortcuts are functional in all my text porcessors!!!!
Note .. You can do this procedure in Preview using the “Select Tool” from the Tools Menu.. ... but the Pasted copy can only be read and/or printed ... No editing !!!!
    george

    Adding more dialog...
Ran Applejack and Installed new copy of Preview using Pacifist... did not solve the problem..
When I copy/paste into a text processor, the insertion tool is blanking toward the lower bottom of the page, indicating data has been copied, but invisible...
When using command-A ....most of the page is selected/high lite...that will only happen if text or info is on that page....invisible !!!!!
When you open a blank window in a text processor... change your mind and hit command-w ....it will close...
But in this case, after trying to copy a column from a multi-column pdf and paste into TextEdit/Tex-Edit Plus....nothing shows..... but when try to close the document.... I get a dialog asking if I want to "Save"....
So what I am trying to say.... I used copy/paste from a multi-column pdf....data is there but not visible.......That does not make sense

  • PDF problem, perhaps ?

    If this is not the strict correct forum for this question, I apologize but it was the best I could find;
I use a lot of PDF files that I all create with OSX's "print as pdf"
I, myself, have no problems opening and viewing and printing the files.
    However, when I send the files with Eudora as attachments to other people, most of them also have no problems at all, but from time to time there are some who complain;
-uhhhh i cant open the pdf files you sent
-uhhhh i cant view the pdf files you sent
-uhhhh i cant print the pdf files you sent
I have noticed that the pdf files created with "print as pdf" do not have an "Adobe" icon, and have tried to change the icon with apple+i to make the pdf file more "recoqnizable". I havent really noticed any positive feedback from others regarding this.
    What I mainly want to make 100 % sure; not 99,99 %, but 100 %;
The pdf files that I create with "print as pdf" are 100 % normal PDF files that others, fx using WINDOWS, dont have to treat any different than an ADOBE created pdf file.
    Can anyone verify this ?
Can I be 100 % sure that the "complainers" only have themselves to blame ?
Fx that they simply dont know enough about opening pdf files ?
I get the impression that what the "complainers" experience is, that they try to double-click the pdf file icon and nothing happens.
Is there a better ( read foolproof ) way to open an pdf file ?
    Any insight is greatly appreciated.

This could be happening for many reasons. For example: an encoding/decoding problem with your or their email program; a decompressing problem with their email program; an outdated PDF reader, or a PDF reader doesn't fully support the PDF standard, etc. You need more details from each individual to solve their problem.

The icon on your PDF files only has meaning on your Mac. The icon is not part of the PDF file. Rather, it's added by the operating system on the computer. So once the PDF file leaves your Mac, it's uses whatever PDF icon is the default on the recipient's computer.

No one can provide a 100% guarantee that this is the case. There are just too many variables to consider. Personally, I've never had problems opening Mac OS X created PDF files using Adobe Reader v5 or v6 on a PC running Windows.
Is there a better ( read foolproof ) way to open an
    pdf file ?
Nope. Giving it a file extension of .pdf and double-clicking it works for both PCs and Macs.
