More Display settings?

Today I got a dell 20.1 inch LCD monitor to run as a dual monitor with my macbook. It looks great and I am really happy with how easy it is to span monitors in OSX... However, there are a few features I would like to tweak and haven't been able to find a way. For example, when an application wants to use "full screen"(mostly games) they will rather choose the smaller monitor and make the big screen blank, or they will choose the big screen and make the macbook screen blank... ideally I would like to set it so the big screen goes full screen, and the macbook screen stays as my desk top so I can use other apps between gaming sessions. Does anyone know a way to do this?

Ok I did a few more tweaks and was able to get all the APPS to default to opening in the larger screen, however, when I go fullscreen it still blanks the small macbook scren, I don't want it to go black when I go fullscreen on the big screen, anyone know how to change this?

  • How to reset display settings? 120 hz over HDMI on 2014 MBPr makes screen go black

Hi, I have a 15" 2014 MBPr with the 750m. Recently, I bought a TV, a vizio M422i-B1. One of my main reasons for buying the TV was to use it as a third display for my mac. I have two displays already connected, a 27 inch 1440 display over thunderbolt, and another 23" display that is 1080 and connected over the other thunderbolt.
I got the TV mounted above my desk, and ran an HDMI down from the TV to where I put my laptop, and plugged the TV in to the computer in the HDMI port on my mac.
It worked, but the refresh rate was set at 60 for the TV on my computer, but since my TV is 120Hz, I set the refresh rate in display settings to 120. It worked fine, and the mouse movement on the TV was more normal looking, so I was happy.
I put the computer to sleep a little later, and came back, and it wouldn't wake up, even after disconnecting all the displays and other peripherals, it would not wake. I restarted the computer, and with nothing connected it rebooted and worked normally.
I connected everything one by one, USB stuff first, fine. 1440 display over thunderbolt, and everything was fine. same with the 1080 display.
I went to plug in the TV again, and everything went black. I had to restart the computer without the TV plugged in to do anything. Restarting with the TV plugged in to the mac doesn't fix anything.
I know my issue is the refresh rate for the TV being set at 120Hz, and I have to change it back to 60 Hz, my problem is that as far as I know I have to have the TV plugged in to change the refresh rate, but if I plug the TV in it kills the computer. Is there a way to reset the display settings so that it doesn't "remember" that I want the TV to be 120Hz?

Did you ever figure this out?

  • 2560 x 1600 is gone from my display settings (2nd monitor)

I've been running my 15" retina macbook pro for more than a year now with 27" DELL monitor and it has alway been using 2560x1600 resolution display.
In the past year i've had no issues with mirroring my screen to big screen TV using Apple TV, however today something weird happened.
As usual i mirrored my screen using Apple TV to watch some videos and i had to change some of the display settings to get the best view on my TV.
Afterwards i switched off the mirroring feature and now my 2nd monitor (DELL 27") is displaying 1920x1080 only. I looked at all my options on my display settings (using ATL+click ) and 2560x1600 is gone missing from the list. Im frustrated and couldn't find an answer to this problem, please advice.
    Couple things i tried;
    - restart & shutdown
    - reset NVRAM & PRAM settings
    - changed mini display cable with another
    - reset monitor settings
    Weird find:
I tried to mirrored  my macbook pro to apple TV again to see the display settings. Guess what, the option for 2560x1600 is now back on the list and working (visually) just fine. as soon as i turned off the airplay display my 2nd monitor turns back to 1920x1080.
Note: the display on my retina macbook pro is working just fine, no problem at all. this is only showing on my 27" DELL U2713HM.

Hello! Just want to ask about mirroring: when you MIRROR the Retina MBP 15" to your Dell Monitor (2560x1600) : do both the MBP and Dell Monitor look sharp and crisp?
    I'm asking because I'm also considering a monitor that's at 2560x1600.
    Thanks so much!

  • Mac Mini display settings change after shutdown

After a shutdown, my Mac Mini's display settings will change on startup. This happens about 80% to 90% of the time.
Sometimes it may be due to playing a video game (Diablo 3) where the resolution in the game is slightly lower. The Mac Mini is set to 1080p, but in-game it is 1600x900. After playing a game, maybe half the time, when I go back to my desktop, the display looks different. However, even other times even when I wasn't playing a game, after a shutdown, the display settings will change.
The strange thing is that it isn't a change in resolution. The resolution stays the same. It is always 1080p after every shutdown. But something in the display changes. Curved shaped look more pixelized, like some kind of smoothing or antialiasing has been turned off. And bright things are too bright, dark things too dark, so images lose some detail. It is also a bit painful on the eyes. Everything looks less vivid and very dull.
Someone in an older post suggested changing refresh rates. Unfortunately, my Mac Mini doesn't show that option. It was also suggested to connect to a different monitor to possibly make the options appear. But I don't have another monitor.
My current solution is to reset NVRAM (command+option+P+R) on startup. It seems to reset the display settings and fixes the display problem 100% of the time. But the thing is, I have to now keep doing this almost everytime I start up my Mac, which is annoying.
Is there a way to ensure that the Mac Mini keeps my display settings and prevent it from losing them on startup? Or perhaps, a way to reset display settings from within the OS without having to shutdown again and reset NVRAM?

    hey p26grinz,
without the external monitor and after setting the display, will the setting remain ?
have you tried uninstalling the graphic driver from your unit and then testing it with generic driver ?

  • Permanent Crash related to changing display settings while FCP is open.

Recently, the display settings (arrangement) on my two monitors started changing by itself while I was working in FCP 6.5. I'm using ancient monitors (Viewsonic MB90 and Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 920. I just don't have the money to upgrade right now). Tis was annoying but I dealt with the problem by creating two different windows layouts. Then things got worse (the only thing I had done was install 8 gigs of additional memory on top of the original 2). FCP started crashing and now I can't even open the application. It doesn't react.
Apple recently posted a not very informative acknowledgement of the problem with changing display settings while FCP is open, but it doesn't suggest solutions to my problem. It would be helpful to know a) what resolution and refresh rates are best for these old monitors and b)how to open FCP again. Your help is greatly appreciated.

    THIS IS IT!
Disabling the nVidia deep colors for 3d applications solved the uber-annoying "flicker-screen-settings-and-disrupt/crash-other-programs" issue. I specifically only disabled deep colors for Premiere, not for all 3d applications I use, because none of them have caused the same problem as Premiere.
This display-screen setting issue probably occurred because I use a Dell u3011 monitor which displays Adobe RGB color gamut, not just sRGB.
However, now this brings up another question with disabling deep colors (effectively disabling the Adobe RGB use of the Dell monitor):
QUESTION: If I have CG-rendered frames that seem to be created in sRGB and Adobe RGB (in two different programs), what color space should I be mixing/editing them in?
I'm somewhat of a novice with the color spectrum/gamut issue. From what I understand, if I edit both CG images in sRGB, I'll be losing color data from the Adobe RGB-created CG image. If I edit both CG images in Adobe RGB, will I create minor banding effects on the sRGB image because it doesn't have the color range that I'm editing in? Perhaps my question is more relevant to AfterEffects compositing of the images rather than simply/only editing them in Premiere.
The end result is something like an architectural film/ flythrough.
    Thanks,

  • IPod Video - Display Settings (Title, Artist, Album...)

I am trying to figure out if I can alter my IPod Video display settings. When a song is playing, it shows the album art with the song title, artist, and album adjacent. Is there a away to change this display so that it does not display the album while the song is currently playing?

    jayceepee99 wrote:
Three issues here.  The pre-pending is useless when selecting songs to play, plus it.takes up much of the admittedly limited space in my on-screen menu.  Since it doesn't help me select a song to play, it simply prevents more relevant info from being displayed in that area.  However, there is a second area on the menu that is designed to list title, artist and album but those fields are blank - despite I-tunes inclusion of the info in the xferred files.
    JCP,
Regarding the tags, on an MP3 CD iTunes simply burns whatever is embedded in the MP3 file.  From your description, it sounds like the Onkyo is seeing the filenames but not the tags, which does seem strange.  You may want to try the question in an Onkyo forum.
If you don't need the pre-pended serial number, and don't care about the sequence, you can burn from iTunes as a data CD instead of an MP3 CD.

  • Acrobat X's Display Settings

    Hello,
I'm not new to Acrobat, but I am new to X.
I just successfully connected my new router to my existing netwotk. This installation was an upgrade. The installation went surprisingly well. I'm very pleased with the installation.
I wanted to know more about the USB port on my new router, so I was able to D/L the User Guide from Cisco.com.   The UG is an online PDF document.
BTW, I have a visual impairment which requires me to zoom in on pretty much anything.
I installed the latest Adobe Acrobat reader yesterday (v. 10.x.x, I think) I couldn't zoom nor could I save the UG.
    Am I missing something, here?
I even checked Acrobat's 'Display Settings'. The display settings were already set to the 'Fit Width' setting, but when I return to the UG, it's obviously displaying the 'Fit Page' setting, which is too small for me to read.

You have to realize that there is preference setting that allows the user to set a default view when there is no initial view set in the PDF. It appears that Cisco has set an initial view for their PDF. You can over ride this initial view by  the short cut key combination of <Ctrl> + 2 after you open the PDF.  You could also set the zoom to actual size using the <Ctrl> + 1 key combination.
With Acrobat and an unprotected PDF you could change the vendor's initial view to 'default', the fit width, or actual size.
I could also help you tell us what product manual you are trying to read. Some manuals are part of another application.
You could even contact Cisco and ask them to make their PDF more accessible friendly.

When I choose the "duplicate" option in display settings, I get a message saying that it is unable to save my settings. • Display Settings error

On my brand new S10e, when I boot up I get a Windows message that the Display Settings are set too low. I check the control panel and find the the settings are right 32bit and 1024x562 (if my memory services me right). I have removed and installed the video driver. No change. Anyone else with this issue?

Colonel, just realised I didn't answer your previous question - yes, I am driving both monitors from display port cables.
I've updated the NVIDIA Drivers to 9.18.13.1269. Unfortunately this hasn't made a difference (well, it has broken wake from sleep again, but it has not helped)
I've also installed the monitor drivers but this also has not made a difference unfortunately.
ptdh thanks for the information. The fact that I was able to drive a single monitor at 3840x2160 makes me suspect something else is afoot. Not entirely sure if the Pro2840m drivers would work at all on my monitor or even a good idea - from what I understand they are different panels?
Maybe there's just better inherent support in Win8 because of the drive for retina level everything. At the moment unfortunately I don't have time to go and install Win8 on a test drive just to check this.
I have a suspicion it might be a problem more with the Intel side of things thanks to the convoluted optimus display. But sadly I cannot force discrete at a low level because in their infinite wisdom Lenovo have removed that option from the BIOS.
Also tried installing the Intel drivers (not sure if the correct ones - here https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23764&lang=eng&ProdId=3319) but unfortunately due to the usual OEM/Vendor faffery they won't install on my system.
If anyone else has more input (any official comment from Lenovo rep? I have emailed support but it's been radio silence so far)

  • Display settings and 2nd monitor not working

Hi everyone, I have a tx2510 and Samsung 24 inch monitor. I have been using the Samsung as my monitor for months now with no issues. I went away with my laptop for a week and came back yesterday, hooked the analog monitor cable in, used it last night, eveything was fine, put it on hibernate and went to bed. This morning when I turned it back on, I got a floating Check Signal Cable box on the Samsung and no image at all on the notebook's screen. There is nothing wrong with the cable, connections were snug, it hadn't been touched since last night.
If I unplug the cable from the notebook, I do get an image pop back up on the notebook screen. So I went into Display Settings to see what was what and became more confused. The Samsung is listed as the #1 monitor, yet when I click the Identify Monitors box, the #1 shows on my notebook screen? And instead of 1920 by 1200, 1280 by 800 is shown as the max res. The "This is my main monitor" and "Extend the monitor onto this desktop" options are both grayed out.
#2 monitor is initially grayed but if I select it, it reads as "Default Monitor" with a max res of 800 by 600. Natural res for the tx2510 screen is 1280 by 800. If I select #2 and apply, it confirms, and then when I go back in to Display Settings, it's back to #1 (Samsung, even though the only image I can get is on the notebook's screen).
It's hard to troubleshoot this issue because as soon as I plug the monitor cable in, my notebook goes black and I have nothing to work with.
It's probably something simple but I really have no idea what to do next, drivers are current, I tried restarting, unplugged the battery, replugging the monitor cable. I need my 24" screen back!!! Any ideas appreciated...

Disconnect all the peripherals and the battery and press and hold the power button for 20 secs... start the notebook and connect the samsung monitor... press Fn+F4 keys to cycle the display.....

  • How do change the display settings such as color temperature and backlight brightness on an iMac monitor?

My wife has an iMac (I don't know any other way to identify it e.g. model number), and she has this 3rd party calibration software that I'm trying to use. I am not used to a Mac, and I cannot find the display settings for the monitor. There are no buttons on the monitor, and when I go to preferences, I can only find the brightness control. I've googled this and cannot find a clear, simple answer. I have used every version of Windows (currently on 8.1 on my PC) and it's easy for me on that platform. I suppose it's just that I don't really know how to navigate Mac OS.

    ItsameMatt03,
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Displays, then click Color.
Click Calibrate.Display Calibrator Assistant walks you through calibrating your display, then creates a calibrated color profile. For a more detailed calibration of your display, select the Expert Mode checkbox, which is at the bottom of the introductory text in the assistant. When the display profile is ready, it’s automatically assigned as your display’s color profile.
