More frequent flickering since 10.6.3 upgrade

Hi,
I have more than a year old MBP with a discrete and an integrated memory video card (first unibody model).
When in low battery consumption mode (i.e. integrated memory) I have impression that the flickering started to be very permanent (let's say 5 times in 10 min) since I've upgraded to 10.6.3. When in discrete mode I haven't notice any flickering.
Did apple acknowledged this issue? My guarantee has expired, and before this upgrade the flickering was really very seldom (maybe once a day). Did anyone had any experience about this issue and how the apple managed the problem?
I think I have replaced within a week the first piece I've got because of the same problem (it was in the local shop not through apple store).
I read somewhere that the guarantee was increased to two years for some models ... well I'll call apple in any case I just wanted to have someone's experience just in order to refer if needed.
Thanks in advance,
Sharlo

I have a similar problem. My unibody MacBook Pro is connected to an external Dell 2407WFPHC display. In the past, this has suffered from flicker on very infrequent occasions with either graphics setting (e.g. once a month?). Since 10.6.3 this problem has become much more frequent (once or twice a day).
Unplugging and and replugging the cable fixes the problem.

    4) When my computer crashes, once it starts again, it says "repairing" ... but I am not familiar with reparing permissions -- can you explain how I might do that?
If you are running OS X Lion, then you can restart your computer and then press and hold the 'Option' key immediately after you hear the start up 'gong' (usually heard when grey screen shows as it restarts).
You should see at least two Disks to choose from. Choose 'Recovery Disk' and wait for it to load, then choose 'Disk Utility' option in the Utilities dialog.
Once Disk Utility loads, do the following:
1 - In the left hand pane, choose your system partition (usually called either 'Macintosh HD' or 'Macintosh SSD'). Note - don't choose the actual hard drive listed above the partition when using Disk Utility in OS X Lion as this doesn't offer options for repairing due to it including the Recovery Disk you have loaded in memory.
2 - Click the 'First Aid' tab
3 - Click the 'Repair Disk Permissions' button in lower portion of main pane and allow to complete. Ideally, you will get a final message in main pane saying Disk Permissions are repaired.
4 - At lower right of same pane, click the 'Repair Disk' button and allow to complete. Ideally, you will get a final message indicating that Disk Repair is completed and all appears to be good.
5 - Quit Disk Utility > Close Utilities dialog window > Click 'Restart' button (confirm as needed).
You should boot straight into the system partition when complete.
Note - any red text in the main pane text while running the repairs will be issues and you will need to follow the advice given or post back.
If you are running Snow Leopard; then (as David mentions) boot from your first OS X reinstall disc and run the Disk Utility the same way; except you select the actual hard drive listed at top of left pane (not the partition below it). This is because Snow Leopard does not use a 'Recovery Disk' partition and repairs can be run on the HD or SSD itself.
    Hope that helps.

    Hello Defguy
Those apps do require a cable or satellite subscription to access and watch them. The article below will give information about the different apps and their home page.

  • Frequent Crashes since updating to Yosemite.

My Macbook Pro has been frequently crashing since upgrading to Yosemite (10.1). Nothing in particular seems to crash it and I'm not running any intensive programs. I'm usually just running a combination of Pages, Word, Preview, Mail, and Safari. I run an external monitor in addition to the laptop display and often use multiple desktops so I can have easy access to PDFs. The machine is older, but I wasn't having these problems under Mavericks. I only upgraded because I made the mistake of upgrading my iPad to iOS8 and enabling iCloud Drive. This prevented my Pages documents from syncing and upgrading to Yosemite seemed to be the only solution. I swapped out the hard drive for a SSD two years ago, which really sped things up. Even now, it runs quickly, as long as it doesn't crash or get stuck, which it has also been doing more frequently. I still have plenty of disk space left (50GB+), but I have noticed that the OS is using more memory.
Is there something I can do, or is it just time for an upgrade?
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    Nathaniel

It hasn't frequently crashed insofar as it just "turns off," but if often freezes to the point where I need to force a shutdown. The most recent true crash was last Sunday. I've pasted the report below. But, there are several reports that end in .crash that I think refer to the forced shutdowns.

  • Frequent kernel panics after Mountain Lion upgrade

Hi All, I'm hoping somebody could please help as I am at the end of my tether with my MBP. Apologies for 'War & Peace' below, but I've tried a number of options already.
I won't go into every boring detail, but it started a couple of months ago when I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion on my 15" mid-2010 MBP (I had previously upgraded the RAM to 8Gb & the HDD 750Gb. Both were home upgrades, but all hardware was reputable and Snow Leopard ran on it absolutely trouble-free for 18 months)
After literally a couple of hours it crashed with a kernel panic (my first ever since I started using Macs in 2007), then just continued to do it regularly. I took it to a Genius Bar and I was advised that it could be because I had upgraded it rather than a clean install, so they wiped the disc and performed a fresh install and I restored the data from a previous back up.
    - Not long after that the panics started again, so thinking it was software related I wiped it again & peformed a fresh install with a brand new profile. As I gradually installed all new versions of software it all worked for a week or so, then started the panics again. I stuck with this for a month or so - maybe 2 panics per night and they gradually became more frequent - maybe 5 times per night, until it just stopped booting.
    - Took it back to the Genius Bar where they ran a hardware test and told me it was the HDD, but then said as I the disc wasn't Apple certified, they couldn't help me fix it (even though they had wiped it previously!?). They said they would order me a new Apple-certified HDD for me (320Gb @ £125 + VAT!!!), or I should go back to the original configuration (I had the old HDD & RAM at home)
    - So in the last 48 hours I have replaced the 750Gb HDD with another and reinstalled OS X, still panics. Reinstalled the original RAM - still panics. I finally reinstalled the original 320Gb HDD this morning, with a fresh copy of OS X, brand new profile and without installing any software and guess what - still panics.
I have searched and searched forums and, on top of all these actions, I have gone through the whole repair permissions, disconnected peripherals, reset PRAM etc. Any suggestions very welcome as I just don't know what else I can do and I can't find anyone that seems to have experienced anything similar. I'm now thinking that it must be the system board, but surely it would be a more drastic failure??  Anyone help please??

  • "Your iMac was restarted because of a problem" occurring more frequently now...

Unsure whether it has anything to do with upgrading to OS X Mavericks, but my iMac has been crashing a lot more frequently these days.  I'm not talking about 4 -5 crashes a day, but at times, 3 - 4 occurrences a week.  First I didn't think much of it.  But since the crashing has become more frequent now, I have have just decided to copy the most recent crash report, which occurred  about half an hour ago and is as follows:

My iMac is the early 2009 model.  Would appreciate some help with deciphering this piece of info, or perhaps, guide me as to where I should be looking for info.  Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
So I uninstalled the programs I'm familiar with, from the list that thomas_r provided, namely:
         Wondershare
         Boom
         AirPhone speakers
I haven't experienced any crashing until earlier today.  Crash report as follows:

However, I still see the kexts for  Boom and AirPhoneSpeakers.  I also want to add that both Boom and AirPhoneSpeakers didn't have an uninstaller available.  Wondershare did.  Instead, I used AppZapper to uninstall these apps.    Is that the reason why I still see the kexts for these programs?
Apps for the following kexts are not available in my computer:
         com.hzsystems.terminus.driver
         net.telestream.driver.TelestreamAudio
         com.Cycling74.driver.Soundflower
Is there any way to rid of these kexts other than uninstalling?  What about for apps without it's own uninstaller?
    Please advise.  Thank you.

  • Yoga 3 pro - screen wont stop flickering since installing windows 10!

HI. I hope someone can help. I just upgraded to Windows 10 and my screen continously flickers! I assume this is because its clashing with some pre installed lenovo software. anyone have the same problem? i dont think its any other software as I dont have much installed on my PC as i normally only use webapps (only the usual additions google chrome, anti virus)  model name: 80HE Lenovo yoga 3 pro 1370 appreciate your help. i am going crazy with this cheers Neil

I seemed to have found a way to fix the flickering after the windows 10 upgrade. I went to Lanovo's support page and installed: INTEL VGA DRIVER FOR WINDOWS 10 (64-BIT) - LENOVO YOGA 3 PRO-1370 http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-3-pro-1370-laptop-lenovo/80he/downloads/DS103937 When installing, it said that I had a more recent version of the driver, and I had to verify that I wanted to install the older driver.  It took a bit of time to download, extract and install, but when it was done (and restarted) the flickering was gone!  This is good news because I otherwise think Windows 10 is an improvement, and didn't want to revert back   I hope this helps everyone.   Note: 1. The link above is specific to the Yoga 3 Pro.  If you are experiencing this issue and have  a different model, you may want to go to the Lenovo support and use "Detect My Product" to find the driver for your model. Select the "Display and Video Graphics" component and find the driver that references "Windows 10" specifically.2. Before trying this, I updated the bios to the latest version. I suppose it is possible that this is also required to fix the flickering (although I doubt it, since after updating the bios, the flickering continued).

  • Mac Pro - Keeps crashing more frequently

    Hi All,
I wonder if anyone can help as I keep having issues with my Mac Pro crashing more and more frequently.
Its an early 2008 model 2 x 2.8ghz, 10gb ram, Nvidia 8800 GT512 card.  Im on mountain lion which is up to date.
I'm a photographer and whenever im creating a batch of previews in lightroom for instance it wont get all the way through without crashing and rebooting.  I thought at first it was getting to hot but after using SMC to run the fans at max during the preview creation, it now still crashes.
Below is a copy of the error report, which to be fair at the moment doesnt mean a lot to me, im hoping that some of you more advanced users can decipher it a little?
Many thanks in the first instance.
    Dave

  • Why is the photo quality so poor since the iOS 7 upgrade?

My iPhone 4S  took absolutely BEAUTIFUL pictures before the upgrade, and now they are just terrible. The quality is poor and before the upgrade my pictures were very detailed and crystal clear. I've tried different settings and lighting with very little improvement.

I have had the exact problem, but with both the Apple earbuds and Skull Candy earbuds.  I have used the latter on my iPhone4 for months without any problems.  I have long phone calls and this will happen 10 - 30 minutes into a call, but seems to happen more frequently as the calls continue.  As you mentioned, if I pop into speaker mode and back out, the problem usually clears up.  I returned my original 4s after experiencing this problem, but my new one had this problem immediately.

  • Refresh portlet report more frequently than once per hour

When you publish a report from discoverer in the portal, you can tell it to automatically refresh, but the most frequent refresh it allows is once per hour. Is there some way I can refresh a report more frequently than that? Can I use the scheduled workbook functionality to achieve this, since in there you can schedule it to run as frequently as once per minute.
    I'm using Discoverer 10.1.2.
    Thanks
    -Nissim

    These are two different schedulers...
We are considering changing the UI to let the users specify a schedule frequency more frequent than once an hour. But that is in a future, as yet undecided release.
For the time being, you can resort to hacks to refresh Discoverer portlers more frequently than an hour. Some information on the same is available on Metalink. I shall see if I can publish in the next few days a blog post on how to do that. Of course you have to realize that something like this is not encouraged or supported.
    Thanks

  • My Galaxy SIII just recently started to lose its charge more frequently

In the past week, I have noticed that my phone has started to lose its charge more frequently than it has in the past.  I fully charged my phone last night around 7 pm and usually that would last me all day today.  I woke up this morning and had already discharged so much and was in yellow, needing to be recharged.  I uninstalled a few apps that I had on there that I hadn't used.  But the charge has been great since I've had this phone.  Any ideas as to why this just started happening?  Do I need to change something in my settings?

I've got exactly the same problem. I tried my other SIII battery (I had bought a spare) and same problem. At another website:
Following installation of the Verizon Jelly Bean update people said that the battery of the Samsung Galaxy S3 started to drain faster when the handset was doing nothing overnight. So we took the version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 from Verizon on Jelly Bean and charged it fully. The battery went down overnight to around 898%, by 7am in the morning. We then did the same with the device that is still running ICS (Cricket Samsung Galaxy S3) and checked it at the same time. We found out that it had gone down to 96%. There is no way of being sure why this happens, however you can turn off Google Now location services. Apparently Google Now and it services may be checking more often ever since Jelly Bean was installed.
I haven't called VZN yet to inquire. Anyone know for sure what's happening -- and more important, how to fix it!

  • Errors while uploading files - Happening more frequently...

We're starting to get this error more frequently. The user is uploading clips and everything seems fine...all of a sudden "Broken Pipe error". They then close out of the client, retry and most of the time it works...but about 20% of the time the error is happening. I've been restarting the server every morning just in case, but this is still happening.
Anyone else see the same thing?
    A few things:
    1. We have this problem on multiple machines, so not client specific
    2. Our system currently has 5,858 video clips and about 5,000 audio clips
    3. Server is running on an xServe with 4GB RAM and this weekend I'm upgrading to 8 GB RAM.

I had this problem as well, the cause was a few different reasons which included:
    -Permissions on the destination directory.
-Permissions on the directory that owns the proxies, thumbnails, versions, and edit proxies bundle.
-Some other system process that works on the file before it is finished copying (ie, virus scans, or backups).
-Some destination directories I have aren't accessible via a normal filesystem connection in the FCSvr pref window. Therefore I have to mount the drive on the xserve, and FCSvr views this device as a local volume, instead of a remote network path. I have the drive mounting as a login item for the xserve, but in some cases where it didn't mount, I would get the 'broken pipe' error.

since i made the upgrade to mountain lion i¡m unable to make facebook video calls , i can,t see other's people webcam

I am having this same issue on my Macbook Pro Early 2011 running Mountain Lion. I try and use Facebook video chatting as I usually would, and although the other person can see me, what I see on my end is a still picture from their webcam that is often flickering between what my own webcam is picking up, and it continuously flickers with static lines (picture an old TV getting bad signal).
Skype is also behaving strangely since I upgraded, although it's flip-flopped (Skype is not letting others see me but I can see them)
With both Skype and Facebook, audio is having no issues.

  • Since I can't upgrade my iPad 1 to iOS 6, is it now vulnerable to security threats?

Since I can't upgrade my iPad 1 to iOS 6, is it now vulnerable to security threats?

According to my brief search on the support site, there is some discussion on this very topic.  No operating system is completely secure!!  Read http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5503  for iOS 6 security content.  Since Apple does not want to provide support for the iPad 1, I have now stopped doing anything online that requires a password or other sensitive data.  No more new apps or upgrades to my present apps.  It has gone from a fantastic piece of technology to a toy in two years.

  • HT1338 The screen on my MacBook Pro keeps going black.  This is happening more frequently.  I have had it in to the Apple store multiple times and they can't find a problem.

My MacBook Pro screen keeps going black.  This is happening more frequently.  I have had it in to the Apple store several times for this and they can't find anything wrong other than it is locked up for a while.  Since it is happening more and more, I am worried that at some point this will be permanent.

Has it actually happened at the store?
If not then we need to get it to do that. Now it may be completely random but you need to try and make a note of as many things as possible that happen when it does it.
How long has it been on for, what are you doing at the time, what's connected. If it's reproducible then you've at least got somewhere.
