More GNOME 3 tweaks - expanding the panel, changing scrollbars

In most of my applications, the scrollbars are massive white things, and the handles are relatively big white dots. In others (like Firefox and Exaile), the scrollbars are really skinny and blue, and the handles are clusters of tiny dots. It looks more like clearlooks than Adwaita. Is the inconsistency because some of these apps only use GTK2? Which .css files do I need to edit to get consistency? I prefer the white bars over the blue ones, but not so wide.

Here it looks like Nautilus is using Adwaita while Exaile is stuck on clearlooks.
Similarly, can I edit some theme file to eliminate the monstrous resize handle that appears in the bottom right? It's a real eyesore, especially on top of the (buggily solid black) terminal windows.
Finally, I've seen some screenshots where the activities panel... thinger has rows of icons and additional things like, "Places," and "Recent documents." Is it possible to add things like that to the panel? Or was that something only in beta versions? I think I'd find gnome-shell a lot more useful if I had access to that sort of thing from the activities menu.

The Adwaita GTK2 theme seems incomplete (to me it looks exactly like the Clearlooks theme...), so the only possibility is setting a different GTK2 theme.

Ah, I kind of solved that part! From what I'm seeing, it looks like some apps use GTK2 and some GTK3, so your theme needs to have, well, themes, for both. Adwaita just uses a very minor alteration of Clearlooks for it's GTK2. I've switched to Hope:

Which is very consistent and IMHO better than Adwaita, anyway. Still haven't figured out where that big'ol resize handle is coming from, though.

It's themed, but you get the point. Way more useful. Really hope some clever extension creator figures out a way to bring that back.

Stop gnome panel launcher icons from scaling when resizing the panel

hi guys!
ive been trying to customize my gnome de and cant find the answer to this. i want to have a thick panel say around 36px with a large main menu icon and 22x22 launcher icons. i tried checking gconf-editor and dont see any option to set this. when i resize the panel to 36 px, the launcher icons follow the size of the panel. i want them to stay at 22x22 even when the panel is resized to 36 px.

thanks for your reply! tried that and it didnt work. i tried this:

it did change the icons in the menu bar. and the icons in the notification area. but it did not change the custom launcher icons...
do you know if they have a howto for this?

I'm unable to drag the seperation line to the right and therefor unable to view folder names when in lower hirarchy...

To a lesser extent, the same problems exists on all panels, whether they be in import window or elsewhere. Just look at the Folder panel in Library to see how much space is wasted in offsetting the subfolders. When this was pointed out to the relevant folk the reply came back that it was by design. Bad design, but we're pi...g into a head wind trying to get it changed.

Cinnamon change the appearance of the panel

To move the panel on the left or right side not possible. to change the look you need cinnamon themes and to move the applets, but it will not look like that because thats a picture of gnome.

Interactive report - Is there an easy way to expand the width of a column to allow for more data on a line.

Example.
One of the columns in my interactive report is labelled Notes.

Is there any way to get this note all on one line - or atleast expand the width to increase or decrease the number of characters per line.

You can also consider to render your "Notes"-column as a textarea, eg:

For the text area you can define the default number of rows and column width you want. You render a column as text area with an apex_item function:
select apex_item.textarea(3,NOTES,1,80) from MY_TABLE
Where 3 is the index number that you want your NOTES colum to have and 1 and 80 stand for row and column width respectively. When you use apex_item for a column, make sure to set that column as "Standard Report Column" under "Report Attributes".

Epson Perfection 1200 scanner continues to function as a flatbed scanner but when I try to scan transparencies/film negs the control panels change in Image Capture but the scanner bar will not complete the overview scan & cannot travel beyond the first 2/3 centimeters. All the communications seem to recognise the scanner and the mode for the intended scan but the necessary overview scan is not completed, nothing comes up on the Image Capture scan window. If I unplug the film adaptor I can get a document scan. When I plug in the adaptor again the Image Capture details change which allows me to select the type of scan required but when the scanner attempts an overview scan it is unable to complete it.
I have had the scanner from new (12 Years) and have previously scanned slides and film with the adaptor but maybe this was before I upgraded my computer (imac 27").
Do I have to buy a new scanner? It seems so close to working correctly.
I have downloaded the Epson recommended driver (5.4) and have Epson Perfection 1200 6.6 Universal showing in the Applications List.
Any thoughts or observations would be much appreciated before I go out and spend money an new hardware.

Try to change the credit information from your iphone or other ios device. Tap on settings > store > tap Apple ID > tap view account > tap payment information > change

I tried hard reset on my iPhone. I tried restarting laptop and iPhone. I tried a different laptop. I tried removing driver and reinstalling from Device Manager but did not find a driver other than "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" which I heard shouldn't be uninstalled.
Anything I haven't tried?

Are you seeing your music listed in the iPod screen, or in Win explorer as in your earlier post?
I can see all the songs in my Edrive>al's Ipod> Ipod Control> Music folder.
A corrupted iPod database, will report zero music used, and have your music size reported as others, so you wont see the music in the iPod screen. Sorry, I thought there was some hope for you with iPodAccess, in recovery of the corrupted iPod database with your ratings.
You can try to borrow and use the Mac Disk Utility ->First Aid ->Repair.
Of course, if your iPod Hardisk is in a bad state, from the Disk Diagnostic report, then all my suggestion are futile.

No, but the upgrade removed unneeded PowerPC code and changed the way free space is determined.

I'd like to change the "read more ..." in the Blog page to say something more relevant to my site. How can this be done?
I searched the forums and found an earlier response to this question, but I don't quite understand it:

I'm a little confused by this reply. To open the index.xml.gz file within the app, do you navigate there with Terminal.app, unzip it, edit the file with Text Edit, then re-gzip it?
Second, why do you delete index.xml.gz afterwards?
And third, will this need to be redone each time iWeb is upgraded?
Has anyone tried this and know if this is the correct way to change the words, or is there some other way?

This tedious process actually edits the template xml file within the iWeb application, so that it becomes the default with the template. I haven't done this before, so I'm the wrong person to advise on this.
I tend to like to do things that are on a simpler scale. You can always make a text box with an opaque background color that matches the blog template background. Then type something else into that text box, like "click here to see more of me" Then position this text box over the standard "read more" and link the text to the blog entry.
The downside....you'll have to do this (at least position the text box and change the link) each time you add an entry.

Analog output to the DAQ that changes when controls on the front panel change

I'm using the PCI-6024E, and trying to output an analog waveform that can change when one of the two controls on the front panel change. It outputs fine setting it to continuous output and using a simple while loop around the "Is Task Done" VI, but if I put the "Write" VI in the while loop, it doesn't output steadily. I then tried to use an event structure, so that I'd only have to write every time something on the front panel changes, but for some reason it was writing finite samples, even though I set the Timing VI to continuous. I looked around the NI site, and found an article about this with an example. I tried to change it around to use my waveform, but whenever I run it, I get a memory underflow error. Has anyone needed to do this before? Thanks in advance.

Hi Josh-
It looks like you forgot to post the code still, but I'll take a stab at the problem anyway. It sounds like you're looking for a way to update a continuous waveform at runtime.
You will need to stop the task in order to replace the write buffer information, but this will only be a small gap in operation. I have attached a modified LabVIEW shipping example that shows how to use value change events for any of the pertinent waveform parameters to either programmatically stop the task, replace the buffer, set timing and restart or to just pass the task information straight through. This will lead to continuous operation with no breaks at the output.

I'm trying to change the appearance of the link, depending on the display panel. Panels change automatically after a certain period of time. I do not know: for example, how to recognize the current panel, and using an if statement to change the appearance of the link. I have such code:

The only way I see, is to use the "Controls[]" property and iterate through all of them. But don't forget about nested elements (i.e. clusters, tab-controls, ...).
