More iPod Weirdness......

Hi,
I posted the other day concerning problems of waking the iPod. I usually have to force sleep and then wake before a selected song will play.
I did a restore and it was no avail, the problem still occurs but I have encountered further "symptoms" or clues. First it seems to only do this when using in my car with a cassette adaptor. Could this mess with it's head? I also noticed that the plug of the cassette adaptor is a a bit looser and sometimes works it's self loose resulting in lost fidelity of sound.
Part 2 Weirdness
When I plug it into my Powerbook it used to go straight to "do not unplug" with slashed circle icon. Now it does that initially but will revert to just the large "charge" battery icon. When I "wake" it, it goes to the menu as if not plugged in. It will then go back to the charge battery then go to sleep/dark screen. iTunes recognizes and I can make changes via iTunes. Not too odd but it didn't do this till the restore.......
Weird little gadget....
Warren
PS ALL software is current and no issues elsewhere.

Safari preferences and Click To Flash have nothing to do with it, so deleting or removing those won't solve the problem. If I were you, I'd download the 10.6.2 Update and reinstall that, then Repair Disk Permissions and then restart Safari to see if the problem continues.

  • IPhone interference messing up other iPod weirdly.

Ok, I'm used to the interference with the iPhone on speakers around the house and car... And I can deal with it..
But its weird, I was listening to my regular 60 Gb Video Ipod just now thru headphones... The iPhone was about a foot away, and I heard the interference sound on the headphones, but as the buzzing kicked in, i looked at the iPod and the volume indicator started fluctuating up & down and eventually blasted the volume in the earphones (ouch!)...
I didn't expect that the interference would affect the controls of the iPod.. but it did... It happened in the car the other day (where the volume control went out of control), but I didn't make the connection as the iPhone wasn't visible - altho it was nearby in my jacket pocket (less than 2 feet away)
Anyone else notice this? I'm kinda glad theres an immediate cause and that my Video iPod isn't crapping out like I thought it was...

Nextel is real bad due to the technology being used.
As for FCC, if you read all your electronic devices, they all have to say they will accept interference. With most cell technology, it usually just impacts speakers. Nextel however the way it works has a lot more stuff going on with them and cause more. I am surprised at how much the iPhone makes though as the Edge (freqency, etc) network really shouldn't cause all that much.

  • ITunes freezes when I connect my iPod/weird clicking noise

Hi, recently I've tried connecting my iPod to my laptop and iTunes would freeze and task manager said it wasn't responding. In addition, when this happened, my iPod would make a weird clicking noise. I noticed this noise before when I had it on shuffle and would skip to a different song just after another song started. Does anyone know what's going on?

    Similar problem here:
When I'm playing songs with iTunes and connecting my 3G 20GB iPod, my computer will hang up completely - screen goes dark and I have to reset my PC.
However, when my iTunes is "idle", i.e. not playing a song or doing anything else, connecting and syncing the iPod will work just fine.
I'm using the newest (6.x) Version of iTunes on WinXP SP2 with a 3G iPod 20GB.

  • More iPod/iTunes Issues...

I've read posts from a few other people who have had problems with their iPod declaring itself full eventhough it isn't and I've seen the 'restore your iPod' tip in each thread. I gave this a try (seeing as I'm having the same issue) to no avail. My iPod currently has 687 items on it (this is after A LOT of deleting to get the iTunes library to fit) and is at 3.66 GB.
Given that minis are supposed to hold 1,000 songs how can I be full and so far from that number? Anyone have any ideas why? Or ways to help me tweak my iPod or iTunes so I can get everything loaded?
    Any help is appreciated!

    "So what's the best option?"
There is no "best" option, it's what suits you best. Apple would recommend you use the AAC format, and I would choose 160kbps as the bitrate. But that's just me. A bitrate less than that compromises sound quality to my ears, but you may not notice any difference between that and a bitrate of 128kbps. If you don't, then use the lower bitrate, and you'll get more songs on your iPod.
From my own point of view, I don't buy into this "AAC sounds better than mp3" mantra that many people preach here on the forums.
Don't let anyone tell you what to use. Use your own ears to decide what's best for you.

  • No more iPod??

I recently had my 80gb iPod stolen. So, I went to the store and bought a new one, only to find, there are no iPods that are compatable with OS X 10.3.9 any more? Is this possible? There is nothing I can do to access my music? I am out of the US for the next 3 months so I don't want to buy a new computer, and have no way to upgrade my operating system...I want to cry! Should things remain compatable?

Hi deggie, you're right, my post does seem confusing.
The way I read the Macintosh requirements for 7.5 at the iTunes download site, which I quoted, is this way:
    1. If you are running Panther, it must be 10.3.9
    2. If you are running Tiger, it must be 10.4.7 or later,
    3. If you are running Leopard, you are fine.
Maybe now that the thread is on a better forum, someone else can set me straight.

  • More iPod space.

I need help finding out how to get more space on my iPod touch so i dont have to keep deleting music and videos i bought, im running out of space on my iPod for stuff,  it is an 8g one,  but it only lets me use 5g.  and please dont tell me about this iCloud stuff,  becase by the look of iCloud it seems that it is only a backup plan if you brake you iPod, Please someone help me with this.

    Open itunes.
    Connect ipod.
Look at the bottom of the itunes screen for the capacity bar.  Where is the memory being used?
You cannot make the ipod have any more memory. However, if somehting is taking up space that should not be, you can remedy that.

  • 2.1 Update Broke more iPod accessory compatibility

When I got my iPhone 3G I knew there were problems with existing iPod accessories. So when buying a new head unit for our car we went to the store and tried them all out with the phone and a cable.
We purchased a unit that allowed the iPhone to be controlled through the head unit. The sound would mute (fade out) beautifully when calls were received (and the audio sent to the appropriate in-car bluetooth unit) and then fade back in when the call was done.
The unit worked with a USB cable and so wasn't prone to the "power on the firewire pins" problems that a lot of other accessories had.
As of the 2.1 firmware update, the head unit can no longer work with the iPhone. It simply attempts to connect constantly. Never actually connecting.
    FAIL.

2.1 seems to be causing more problems that fixes man
All my accessories no longer work on this phone
And I refuse to buy all new ones.
I sure hope Apple addresses this problem with the 2.1 Operating System ceasing use with accessories.
I got a replacement Iphone on the way, maybe I will get lucky and it will have the 2.0.2 OS on it. Crossing my fingers man
Applecare wasn't helpful at all with this problem either.
The tech did say they are getting alot of complaints over the Apple DEV team killing off accessories with this OS Update to 2.1
What have you tried to get urs back working???
I did a reset as well as clearing all data, a full restore
    Nothing
Only thing to fix this is JB the Phone back to the older OS.
And we shouldn't have to do this being consumers.

  • More filtering weirdness

Hi all: I am still seeing an issue on our BM3.9sp2 box running on NW6.5sp8 and eDir 8.8.5.
I have two credit card machines, one in subnet 10.1.x.x and one in subnet 10.2.x.x which is across a wan. Here are the filters I setup:
    10.1.x.x subnet
    outbound
    traffic: all_tcp
    source: private - host: 10.1.1.98
    Dest: public - any address
    inbound
    traffic: all_tcp
    source: public - any address
    Dest: private - host: 10.1.1.98
    10.2.x.x subnet
    outbound
    traffic: all_tcp
    source: private - host: 10.2.1.98
    Dest: public - any address
    inbound
    traffic: all_tcp
    source: public - any address
    Dest: private - host: 10.2.1.98
The credit card machine in the 10.2.x.x subnet works fine while the machine in 10.1.x.x does not.
So I tried the old turn of ipflt and see if things work trick. Instantly both machines worked fine. So I turned ipflt back on and again only the one machine worked. For kicks I again turned of ipflt and guess what, only the one machine worked (10.2.x.x). The machine at 10.1.1.98 would not connect even with ipflt unloaded. I repeatedly retested and even with ipflt off the machine on 10.1.x.x would not connect.
    Weird. Any thoughts? Thanks, Chris.

    1. If traffic is always started in one direction, then you only need one
    filter and make it stateful.
    2. Are you using imanager or filtcfg to create the filters? did you
check in filtcfg/configure interface options that the nics are correctly
    defined s public and private?
    3. If you unload ipflt and still fails, load pktscan.nlm on the server
and take a lan trace to see where the traffic fails.

  • More Sound Weirdness

I managed to connect external speakers to my MacPro (via the audio jack on the back of the machine) and finally figured out how to get them to work. And they work just fine except for this one problem.
Whenever I go to print a file, no matter what program I am printing from, I get a loud ping alert from the external speakers. It's not the sound I have selected for alerts. It's a different one. And it's obnoxiously loud. It happens for a few other computer functions as well. I'd like to turn it off - or at least dampen the volume - but I have tried every sound tweak I could find and nothing works.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Nevermind.....
I went back and noodled around some more. Turns out the problem occurrs only in Microsoft Office applications and after fussing with the Help menu for a bit I finally figured out how to turn off the sound. (But, oddly, no way to keep the sound but lower the volume.)
Just in case someone else should have this problem: In Word go to Preferences (Note: a Word file must be open in order for you to do this). Then to General. Then clear the "Provide feedback with sound" checkbox.
    Adios.

  • More multicam weirdness - CC

Okay... I have an unusual multicam with an even more unusual problem.
We are making short videos for a Spanish class.  These are mostly three cameras with additional, non-sync audio for each of the main actors.  Each video is shot in short takes with a little overlap that need to be put together in a multicam sequence.
I used the new audio sync feature to (successfully!) sync up about 70 files.  They auto sorted into a dozen different multiclips and, for the most part, Premiere was close to perfect!  This is wonderful since my Spanish is "no muy buena"!
I opened each of the multiclips in the timeline.  It is important that I include the audio from each of the actors so I turned all of the relevant audio tracks on.  I selected the best take from each multiclip and pasted these into a new sequence with the intent of making that into a multicam sequence the old fashioned way.  I suspect this is my problem.
When I drag this new nest to the new item icon I get a single video and audio track and all of the audio tracks play at once (all very good).  BUT when I enable the Multi-Camera most of the audio tracks (all of the useful ones) go away even though they were happily playing muxed in the nest before I enabled Multi-Camera!
Any ideas on why this is happening or how I could proceed differently?  I'd really like to use the multi-camera feature but it will be difficult to edit each little piece and then bring it into a finished sequence.
Here are some screen grabs to help:
My original, hand-made, nest called "ALL_techshop"
The new item created when "ALL_techshop" is dragged onto the new item icon.  All of the audio channels that I have turned on paly simultaneously
Enabling the Multi-Camera turns off all of the useful channels:

There may be a new cool simple way or button to take care of this, but if I understand your post correctly...did you try option+selecting just the video tracks only and then right-clicking and selecting "nest" then right-click again and select multi-camera>enable. That is how I used to do it on CS6 and it worked recently on CC. That way your video is nested all on one track but your audio remains untouched. I don't know why when you did it some of the tracks turned off. Might be something simple that's not being toggled on or off, not sure. But you can try what I suggested for now and see if it helps.
HOWEVER...please be aware before you start your multicam edit that there is a huge, giant, ugly, ridiculously unacceptable bug with multicam in Premiere Pro CC right now that has essentially broken the multicam experience. If you don't know about it, read about it below or you may be left losing hours of editing work:

  • More reel weirdness

    Hi Everyone -
So I have a few projects that I built on one machine and now I need to move to a new machine.  Folder structure is exactly the same as it was on the original box - and preferences in terms of frame rate (everywhere you can enter frame rate) are exactly the same.
So when I open the .ircp on the new machine predicably all of my reels are offline - however when I try load from desktop I get the warning message that the frame rate of some of the reels doesn't match the current frame rate...blah blah blah.
What's even weirder is if I had the clips to a blank timeline they go in just find but if I try to rebuild or reload the reels from media thats online I get the same message.
This is extremly frustrating because I can't seem to move projects around from machine to machine.  I've verified that all media is 23.976 and that all of my projects are also 23.976.
    HELP!!!!

Safari preferences and Click To Flash have nothing to do with it, so deleting or removing those won't solve the problem. If I were you, I'd download the 10.6.2 Update and reinstall that, then Repair Disk Permissions and then restart Safari to see if the problem continues.

  • More Safari weirdness

In addition to the bug I've chimed in on elsewhere in this forum (Bookmarks Bar doesn't appear when opening new windows), now the Tab Bar is displaying weirdness, as shown in the screenshot below.

  • Adding two more ipods to one computer

My daughter and I currently have I pods. When I got mine I was told to make a new user on the computer for my library (don't dare want my music mixed in with hers). Having the two users has worked well. I recenly moved our itunes (and hopefully libraries too...another thread) over to an external hard drive with each of our names. My twins 16th birthday is Friday. I am considering getting them each a nano. My question is do I need two more users on the one computer? OR, can I set it up to have theirs on the external with their names?
I hope that makes sense to someone!
    Thanks in advance!

Each user account will maintain a separate library as you know. All users can use the same physical storage location. I recommend doing that, that way if one wants a song the other has all they have to do a use the add file or add folder option.
