More issues - freezing screens remote not working

this is becoming silly now
scenario-
im on bbc1 i press ok whilst watching to get to the 'short' guide that appears at the bottom of the screen and lets you search  through channels etc
i flick throught the small guide and seach through to a different channel, see an interesting programme and press the info button
the summary page pops up (the one that lets you see programme info and record options etc) but then freezes and disables the remote, leving only the standyby button working.  even if i turn it off by stanby when i turn it on the summary page is still stuck ontop of bbc1 i was watching.     only removing the plug seems to resolve this.
rathther annoying!  anyone else notice this?

I also have this issue. I have reproduced my issue by going to the EPG, selecting a programme, pressing Info, toggling between Details and Summary, and then pressing Close. At this point the Info box remains on the screen and the remote is locked up - I have to turn the box off with the switch on the back to fix it.

  • My USB port (closest to the screen) is not working? And what is an IR Receiver in my USB port?

    Hi everyone,
I recently found out that my USB port, closest to my screen, is not working. Before I called Apple Care for help, I performed a PRAM and a SMC RESET, which unfortunately did not work. I called Apple Care and they help me troubleshoot simple resets such as, shutdowns and restarts. The representative I spoke with conluded that the physical hardware has an issue and must be brought to the Apple Store for a diagnosis. I called the Apple Store to at least budget the fee for getting a USB port fixed and it's about $300.00. I never dropped my macbook or had any sort tactile encounterment with hard surfaces by dropping or hitting. I don't understand how my macbook pro would be physically damaged. I then thought maybe my software was out of date (right now I am running 10.9 Mavericks) or I forgot to do the minor software updates, but I was at a lost again because my macbook is up-to-date. I searched for further help and found a way to monitor what's plugged into my usb ports. (I read in the apple forums that a girl had nothing in her usb ports, but upon looking at the System Information> Hardware> USB, that the macbook recognizes that there are drives in the ports) I looked at my ports; one is being used by wirless mouse (the port that works) and the other (the port that doesnt work) is being used by an "IR RECEIVER". Now, is the IR Receiver actually using that port and that's why my macbook cannot recognize other devices inserted into that port? Or is the IR RECEIVER suppose to be in that port and that the hardware for that port is simply damaged (which would mean I need $300.00 to get that fixed)? I know this is a lot, but someone help me?

I can help with the "IR Receiver" part of your question. That's the piece of hardware inside older MacBook Pros (MBPs) that lets them work with the Apple Remote. "IR" is the standard abbreviation for "infrared," the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum used by remotes for many common devices (stereos, cable boxes, Apple TVs, etc.). The remote sends a coded stream of IR pulses; a corresponding receiver in the target device "sees" the infrared light and decodes it. The MBP's internal IR Receiver sends the received signals to the processor via USB through an internal hub.
The most recent MacBook Pros have dropped the IR receiver and no longer work with the Apple Remote.

You could follow the instructions in the support document that you linked from. There is a section regarding the passcode and the inability to use it or enter it. However, you may encounter more issues since you cannot use the screen.

  • I have an ipod touch 3rd generation and the whole touch screen is not working.

I have a 32gb ipod which I bought for fifty dollars and when i bought it had a pretty baddly cracked screen but thing is it worked fine. Every part of the screen worked fine; it was as senstive where the screen was cracked as the areas of the screen that were not cracked. I dropped it a couple times from like two or three feet on two a hard wood floor about four times all it did was make the cracks on the screen a little worse. Then one day I dropped it from about a foot and now the whole touch screen is not working does anyone know why this is. They told me at the ipod store to get a new one would be 130 to trade mine in. But the thing is I very mechanically inclined and I am very good with electrionics; I was planing on buying the glass for fifty bucks and putting it on myself because I read how to do it and I am more then capapble of doing it. But now since the touch screen is now working; do I need a new screen along with a new glass? See the thing is because I think both those part cost 120 together. Which would not be worth me doing that when I can go to the ipod store and they would trade me a new one for 130 bucks. But the issue is, they told me at the ipod store they would have to look and see how damaged the ipod is to see if they will exchange it. My screen is severly cracked; also I have a dent that is a half inch long and 1/8th inch deep in the back of my ipod and its very scracthed up; do you thing an ipod store would exchange it in the condition it is in. Also has anybody had this problem before and I was wondering if it would be possible for me to take it apart and fix it my self without buying any new parts.

If I were you, I would pay the $130 for a replacement. Then you can be sure that it has all the working parts it needs.

  • Apple remote not working

My Apple remote is not working with my MacBook. The Mac OS X 10.5 Help Knowledge Base says to go to Security > Systems > and Disable remote control infrared receiver. I don't have a systems button or box nor the checkbox to Disable remote control infrared receiver. And, my MacBook has an infrared receiver.

    Hi Focus,
I have the same problem. When I update from TIger to Leopard the front row apple remote still working. But is been a long time the last time i used and now on 10.5.2 osx the apple remote not working as I imagine.
I read some answers that help me understand better the problem. My check box of "disable remote.."is unchecked and I saw a "pair" button and try to pair with my apple remote. The tips told me to HOLD "menu" and "next" buttons of apple remote to pair him with computer. And Works fine. So I try to push only Menu button (as I've done so many times on tiger) but still does not working. So I realize the command to "start front row from apple remote" now on Leopard 10.5.2 is MENU+NEXT buttons and does not anymore only menu button. For me works like this.
While I write this answer I try again push and hold only MENU button and after almost 2 or 3 seconds holding button appears on screen an virtual image of my apple remote signaling to replace the battery, may be now will be works only on push menu, but I need to change the battery first.
    I hope help somebody.

  • Apple infrared remote not working

Just a few days ago I updated Keynote, my time scale is a little hazy but I know recently, like last week, I used my appl infrared remote to control Keynote. I was able to press play and advance slides. This was a great thing, I remember doing and thinking wow apple is great. Now it doesn't work. I can turn the volume up but playing or advancing the slides does nothing. It sure seems like the last update removed this feature.
    Anyone know whats going on?
    Thanks,
    Kris

    Dear all,
I had the same issue with my nokia 5800, finally I found very interesting thing, I have been doing everything to bring my phone back to original  condition where simply I can touch and access the phone.
Actually the issue was with the thin plastic piece which was put on the touch screen for its protection. I was struggling to touch and access the phone but i coudnt for almost 2 weeks, it was directing me to bottom left corner touch buttons of the phone and automatically opens and activate functional which I didn't want.
Solution was, I simply removed the thin plastic layer from the phone , Now it works fine.
    Hope this will help.

  • The button on my Ipod Touch (the big one just below the screen) will not work when I press it. Nothing happens, when before it would wake my IPod out of sleep mode, and exit out of programs I was using. Now, no reactions. What should I do?

The button on my Ipod Touch (the big one just below the screen) will not work when I press it. Nothing happens, when before it would wake my IPod out of sleep mode, and exit out of programs I was using (ex. ITunes or Safari to main screen) . Now, no reactions. When I press the button, it appears to be more indented then it was before. What should I do? Do I need to get it fixed or replaced, or is this a problem I can fix on my own? Whatever it is, I really need some advice. Thanks in advance.

  • I need to turn off 'find my iPhone' so that I am able to restore my phone but my screen is not working. I logged into my iCloud but was not able to turn it from here. How do I do this?!

My iPhone 4 screen stopped working. The phone is still on but the screen is not working at all, it is juts black. I was told restoring my phone might solve this problem so i plugged it into iTunes. When I click on the restore iPhone button a message popped up saying I needed to turn off 'find my iPhone' in phone settings for the restore to be go ahead. Problem is I cant access my phone!
I went onto my cloud account to see if i could do it from here but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Any ideas?

From your iCloud account, you can go to Find My Phone and remove the iPhone from your devices list which will release it, or you could do a remote erase of the iPhone from iCloud.

  • Lenovo Yoga 13 Screen is not working

    Hi Guys!
Please go through my complete message as it is very 'painful' experience you can ever come across when buying a laptop.
The Lenovo Yoga is not available in Australia. So, I bought the Lenovo Yoga 13" orange i5 128GB from 'adorama.com' for US $999 + UPS shipping $105. Unfortunately the shippment attracted a custom of 185 AUD which I had to pay later. In total, I have already spent 1400 AUD.
The UPS courier service delivered the shipment to my address an hour back i.e. today on 5th July,2013. I was very happy to receive the product but when I switched on the laptop, the screen is not working properly and is displaying a number of vertical colored lines.
To confirm that it is the screen problem, I connected the laptop to my TV with a HDMI cable upon which I could see the windows display on the TV. This clearly establishes the fact that the laptop's screen is faulty.
Next, when I checked the warranty number online it shows that warranty starts from three months earlier than my purchase date which clearly shows that someone registered the laptop before.
Also, the charger I received with the laptop looks to be a used one with scratches and marks on it.
I am afraid, the product I got from Adorama is damaged and maybe a refurbished one as the charger clearly looks to be used before. I am deeply disappointed with this incident as I was very excited to use that product and also importantly had lots of work to do with it.
I contacted Adorama, and they are saying that they might exchange/ refund after seeing the product for which I have to ship back the product to the United States. They have asked me to provide a quotation of the shipment and told me that they will decide accordingly.
Firstly, I dont know how it will work out and next, I cannot trust these people anymore to refund me the money after returning the product. I am anyways losing the money I paid on customs.
Therefore, as being my fellow Lenovo Yoga mates, I request your advise on this issue to me. I would really appreciate whatever it is.
I kindly request Lenovo to look into this matter.
    Thank you!
    Amer

I have exactly the same problem just a set of vertical lines on the screen. Never before have I had such a pathetic problem except maybe with laptops that are 6 years old.
For further details I have the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13-inch Convertible Ultrabook (Orange) - (Intel Core i7 3537U 2.0GHz Processor, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD, WLAN, BT, Webcam, Integrated Graphics, Windows 8) bought from amazon.co.uk ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00CA10NUE ).
The screen lasted 6 days before dying. Just enough time for me to waste getting it perfectly set up before it died. There was nothing to indicate prior to the screen failing that it was going to fail. Turned it off one night and turned it on the next morning and the screen was only displaying the vertical bars.
I'm going to try sending the Laptop back to Lenovo. I actually managed to get through to the Lenovo support - they have quite a good system of dropping the laptop off in a local shop that is then picked up by Lenovo, they reckon to have a turn around of 10 calendar days. I can recommend trying to call the Belgium helpdesk as Lenovo can never outsource the help desk people since they need to speak French and Dutch but usually they will also speak English - start the conversation with "Parlez vous anglais?" / "Spreek je engels?" . Admittedly it will be no use if you need to return the item, but if you just need a bit of technical support it might be a good way to go.

  • Qosmio DX730 - Screen is not working

    Hi,
my screen is not working. I can see that the computer is fine as I can get it to briefly flash into view when I switch the AV input mode, but then the screen just blanks out. I have tried rebooting a number of times, turning off completely, but nothing seems to work.
Any idea on how to fix this?

If your computer works properly in connection with external screen, then the problem could be related to the internal display panel maybe its faulty I said maybe because to find the malfunction, the hardware must be checked by service engineer.
However, from my point of few it could be a display panel issue and this can be fixed only by part replacement.
