More Keyboard issues...

Hi -
I used a USB aluminum keyboard for past year and loved it....but decided to try the wireless one instead and passed on the USB keyboard to a co-worker
Like many others I was having issues with function keys with a new bluetooth keyboard.
I updated software, etc, etc and eventually got the keybaord doing what I wanted
BUT -I didn't like the keyboard... I missed my number pad on the right and it was just too small for me.
SO- I went back to Apple store and bought a good old USB aluminum keyboard -BUT now the function keys on that are all screwy! The same type of keyboard was working great 1 week ago! (specifically the function volume keys don't work, the brightness keys, etc)
I have tried vairious fixes that were suggested in this forum ...no avail
I am curious if anyone else has found a fix?

If the keyboard you purchased is the Apple model MB110LL one...

  • MORE keyboard issues while installing XP

    Hi Guys,
Ok, I made a partition on my harddrive...no sweat. Put the disk in and restarted...
I arrived at a screen that said something like:
    Do you want to:
    (a)install from the CD
    (b)Install from a SCSI drive
and it asked me to select...problem is that none of the keys or mouse on my MBP were working....
Anyone got any ideas? I restarted and held the option Key, and it restarted in MAC OSX....
    ...I'm stumped.

    Welcome to the club...

  • Keyboard issue in Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I have a 15" MacBook Pro and today it developed a keyboard malfunction...the keys around the 'w' key (a, s, d, e) also insert a w when pressed with anything but the lightest touch...probably a bit of dirt or something in the keyboard, is there a way of getting the keyboard out to have a look? or other suggestions as to why this happens? it's very irritating!

I too have an issue w/ my Macbook Pro keyboard (2nd time since I've owned it) although this one isn't quite as severe as the one reported.
I started noticing over the past couple of weeks that when I type, I start hearing this odd "click" sound every once in a while. As I started to pay more attention to it, it appears that every time I hit the letter 'E', it sounds like the plastic beneath the key is loose or breaking (?). They key itself feels loose and I'm worried that its going to pop off. (this has happened on my Dell Inspiron a few times and its been an annoying issue ever since as it regularly pops off now).
Is this something covered under Applecare? (my previous keyboard issue was a couple of dead keys including the spacebar that required a new keyboard).
Also (side question), when I go to the concierge page to setup a time to visit an Apple Genius, there's GUEST and MEMBER login. Is Member login for those who have Applecare? If so, then what would the member number be? The Applecare agreement # doesn't seem to take.
    Thanks,

  • Ibook g4 keyboard issue

I have an Ibook G4 that was purchased in Jan 2005. My 90 day phone support has dissolved however the laptop is still under hardware warrenty for 180+ days.
The right side of the spacebar sticks and is really annoying. How do I go about getting a replacement part from apple? I can't seem to find any other method to contact them other then phone and then it costs $49 for them to talk to me.
    Thanks.

Amy welcome to apple discussions board.
I believe that within one year from the day of purchase you can still add apple care. that extends the technical telephone support from 90 days to 3 years and warranty from one year to three years.
I believe if an apple tech agent identifies your keyboard issue they can set it up for service. that means that you have to pay for any hardware replacement plus labor and shipping cost (both ways).
an alternative would be to contact an apple authorized service center, like CompUSA. hope that was useful. good luck and feel free to post back if have more questions.

  • New MBP = Goofy Display Wake + Keyboard Issues???

I would like to know if anyone has had the time to try a new MBP out to see if the new Intel Chipset helps with any of the issues that the last MBP's have.
Mainly, if the new chipset fixes some of the wake issues that people have been having, or the keyboard issues where the first character is missed when typing.
Has anyone had a chance to test this out yet?
(I realize that I am jumping the gun a little, but I am really curious)

Do the new (Feb 2008) Macbook Pro models have embedded numeric keypads, along with home/end/page (up/down) arrow-key labels? Have the numeric keypads and arrow-labels been removed, as has recently happened to the Macbook line? Apple's "Design" page for the Feb. 2008 Pro doesn't give a clear answer -- it has some photos of Pro keyboards that include an embedded keypad and home/end/page (up,down) labels, but also includes several photos of Pro keyboards without these.
If the embedded keypad is indeed gone: _poor move, Apple_.
PLEASE put this back on the Pro machines, and soon!
Here's why: Actual "pros" (e.g. advanced tech- oriented users) are much more likely to require the numeric keypad for a range of uses, both in much OS X software (from advanced image and video software to Apple's own keypad mouse control) plus in the Boot Camp world of PC software including non-intuitive PC-style 3-digit alt-character entry. Heck, embedded keypad could have even then been pointed to as a newly differentiating feature of the Macbook Pro line.
There can of course be some software remedy -- but hardware change is the only way to really restore to easiest use, getting the symbols on the keyboard caps. Users should not be expected to memorize these; the embedded keypad may go unused by a user for a straight year, but then need to use OS X or PC software for which the numeric keypad is the only way to perform certain functions.
    Apple: can you

  • Keyboard issue--URGENT

HELP! I have a suddenly ocurring keyboard issue with my MacBook Pro15". Over night it went from functioning well to having 3 keys not functioning, to over another night having 5 keys not functioning & the eject CD button being activated when certain of the these keys are pushed. Although we purhased this in the USA (& will be returning) right now we are using this computer in the Dominican Republic which has high humidity & ants. I've squished several small ants as they've come out of my key boards. Is it possible that my keyboard has a REAL bug prob? I tried blow drying them out but can't see any more. Is it poss to gentl lift off (&later press them back) these keys as it was in previous models?

    Hi DrChrisHe,
I thought i've seen and heard it all but bugs coming OUT of a MBP is new to me I am not sure about being able to take off the keys but i would like to suggest the iSkin silicone keyboard cover, keeps the bugs out

  • Mouse, keyboard issues; 8 core MP; 10.5.2

My dad just bought an 8 core Mac Pro. He only had it a few days with 10.5.1. But after applying 10.5.2, he and I have both experienced issues with the numeric keypad being unresponsive, as well as function keys to which we have assigned Quickkeys triggers. Pressing, F1 on the new slim keyboard, for instance, does not trigger the quickey, but attaching his old keyboard does. That sounds like a keyboard issue, but there is more.
Similarly, double clicks from his mouse will not be recognized (Apple mighty mouse). The finder appears to freeze, and we generally have to resort to relaunching the finder to regain control. Very strange behavior.

Hi, how's about a Pram reset, it's harmless, non-intrusive and can only help. Directions:
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Try this, and if it fails to correct issue, boot in safe mode, with the shift key held until start-up.
Post back with results, also run Disk Permissions. It's in your Utilities folder>Disk Utilities. Also, boot off the install disk while holding the c key, press English and go to Utilities and repair hard drive.
These three simple procedures may solve many issues.

  • Equium A60-692 with XP - keyboard issue

Since my last post 19 Feb I've spoke to lots of people about this problem but still no solution. Problem is......
When I switch on my laptop and it has booted up the keyboard will not operate and if I then restart the laptop it will shut down and reboot ... then every thing will work perfectly!!!!!!!
I've used the recovery disc, but had to get it loaded on the reboot as I couldn't load it on the first boot as there is no response from the keyboard.
Someone suggested I update the Bios which I had a go at, but not very sure I was successful with that.
This problem has been ongoing for sometime, and some recommended that I just live with it.
I have a feeling that it is a software problem and could be fixed.
If it is a hardware problem it may cost me more than the thing is worth.
Can anybody help save my sanity and throw any light on the problem?
    PLEASE

    Hi
I believe its a hardware (keyboard) issue and its advisable to test a new keyboard.
In such case the ASP should install new keyboard and should check the functionality...

  • Hp envy 14. Keyboard issues.

    hey all,
ive been having an issue with my hp envy 14, with windows 7.  This forum seemed the most relevent, as its a keyboard issue.
So whenever I turn my laptop on the keyboard is non-functional, so I turn it on with alt f5 I believe, this gets the key board functional, I can at this point type in my user password. Next as I type in my password, the capslock button has reversed itself, so when my keyboard shows caps on, caps is off and vice versa. Also, sometimes when im using my computer, it switches between recognizing caps is on or not.
I recently wiped the laptop, so I believe the issue to be internal.
This is frustrating to put it lightly, any help appreciated.

    Hi @czrom
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having trouble with your keyboard. I am happy to help. Please post the full product number abd operating system so I can find the correct support pages and drivers for you. Since you mentioned that you just wiped the machine it is likely that some of the drivers are missing.

  • MacBook Pro 13-inch Mid 2010 using Mac OS X 10.8 Keyboard Issues.

    Good day ASC,
I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch Mid 2010 upgraded to Mac OS X 10.8. It now has keyboard issues. Keys F4, 4, r, f, v, caps lock, space bar, and directional keys left and down do not work. I've been looking into the problem thinking it could be a software issue. Can anyone help?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You need to install the Windows support software in Windows to make it run properly. You have to download and install these drivers in Windows > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
After installing them, I recommend you to look for a newer GPU driver

  • Anything new with keyboard issues in XP

read alot of posts but doesnt appaer to be anything new on keyboard issues in XP. works for awhile then nothing.mouse does work. i dont have an old keyboard around i can use. was hoping it was something to do with XP settings.
    any word ?

I seemed to have the same issues other people were reporting: USB keyboard would disconnect every five minutes or so, would sometimes re-connect by itself, would other times freeze and require re-plugging. The mouse would usually keep working even when plugged into keyboard. This would happen on all USB ports. It was most noticeable in Windows (through Boot Camp and through Parallels), but it would also happen less noticeably in OS X. In OS X, it would often recover without re-plugging, but errors would show up in the Console logs. It seemed to get worse the longer my computer was on.
Turned out, for me at least, to be a faulty keyboard. Although I tested the keyboard on another computer and it was fine, on the Intel iMac it had the disconnection problem. I repaired permissions, verified the disk, reset PRAM, restarted in Safe Boot, but nothing helped.
I called Apple about it. They replaced the keyboard under warranty, and since then (about two weeks) the problem has not occured once, in OS X or in Windows.
If you haven't done so already, I recommend thorough troubleshooting. Disconnect all other peripherals other than the mouse and monitor your logs in OS X (open Console under Utilities) to see if USB errors come up. Boot into in Safe Boot mode by pressing Shift on start-up. If the error still comes up in OS X, as it did in my case, then you have a valid problem you can call Apple about. If it happens only in Windows, unfortunately it might be harder to make a case since Boot Camp is beta software. When you call Apple you can desscribe all the testing you already did.
    (are you still under warranty?)

  • Textfield and keyboard issues

I have been hitting wall figuring out keyboard issues.
    - As I have been experimenting, you can not do select on texts unless the text is input type. Please correct me if I am wrong. This actually invokes the virtual keyboard. Is there anyway to disable the virtual keyboard?
    - When you tap on dynamic and input text fields and try to type something, the texts will become 200% bigger. What's explanation behind this? Any way to keep it normal?
I really appreciate if someone can help me out here. Thanks in advance.

    Update:
    - Just tested. To avoid text become bigger 200% go to Anti-Alias option and choose "Use Device fonts". Alternative, you can use TextInput component too.

  • MacBook Pro 10.4.11 keyboard issue (beaten path??)

When my MacBook Pro starts up or wakes up, some keys, specifically q,w,e,r,t,y,u,i,o, and the left Shift key, don't respond. The duration of the problem is quite unpredictable; a few minutes to maybe up to 30 minutes. If I wait long enough they become responsive eventually. When I bought it in 2007 I didn't have this problem. I think it started ~1 year after the purchase.
From googling I found out that many MacBook Pro owners were having similar problems. These are mostly with version 10.5 and many people seem to agree that this is a Leopard-specific issue, but I've also seen a few people complaining about similar keyboard issues with 10.4. I also found out that Apple released some sort of a keyboard software update to fix these problems. However, that update requires 10.5, and mine is 10.4.11.
This week I finally took my computer to the Apple store and showed it to a 'Genius'. He said he was not familiar with this problem, and when I mentioned the keyboard software update, he hooked up some sort of cable and ran 10.5 on my computer, but the computer in that state didn't find any keyboard updates (at least that's how I understood his explanation). Therefore, he concluded that this is a hardware problem and that the machine needs a repair.
Now, I don't question the Genius' superior knowledge to mine, but I still can not believe it's not a software problem. If it is hardware problem, how come it occurs always/only after the computer wakes up? Is it coincidence that the symptom is so similar to the known software problem?

I'm having a similar problem although I am not trying to upgrade my version. Certain keys don't work on the built-in keyboard: delete, space bar, caps lock, quotes-apostrophe key...I have to use the "keyboard viewer" to use these particular keys. My adapter is connected to the computer, but the problem persists.
Can anyone please suggest troubleshooting for this annoying problem? It has been like this for about 2 weeks now.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated!

  • New Z70 Keyboard issues

Hi all, I have recently just purchased the new Lenovo Z70 laptop and it arrived a few days ago. Everything about it seems fine except the keyboard, it works but only just you have to really push hard and very central for it to register me pushing keys, as such trying to type anything takes years and is unbareable. Has anyone else experienced this? or know what is causing it?

I also have very similar keyboard issues.  I bought the laptop beause it has all the things I want (epescially 17 inch screen & NON-GLARE screen which is crucial to usability.) But - I feel like this laptop has been ruined because it 100 percent slows down my work due to the keyboard problems.  I'm a very fast typist and have never had a keyboard slow me down until now, and the slowdown is huge.  I thought that my fingers would get used to whatever new touch methods are required after 6 weeks but it hasn't happened.  I end up with a big problem on the letter c --- half the time it appears twice and sometimes it doesnt appear at all.  Then there are the passwords that dont work for several times beacuse the keyboard is not registering the correct keystrokes.  And sometimes I dont catch what it has done to my text , with bad consequeces.  All my emails are unfortunately in an account that is labeled as my domain name with a .om after instead of .com because of the problems with the 'c' key that I didnt realize until much later.
I'm not able to describe the intensity of the issue sufficiently, so just would have to state here that because of this keyboard issue, this is the worst laptop I've ever bought unforunately.  I can't understand how such a great item would be shipped wiht the primary user interface (keyboard) so effed up. I attribute some of it to posisble requirements of the keys themselves to get touched only in certain directions in order to regiister a keystroke.  But that doesn't explain the duplicate keystrokes I often see.
In summary - I wish I had stayed with Dell.  I thought I'd go with Lenovo this time and this keyboard thing makes me frustrated that I strayed.
