More Magenta Cast in Epson 2200 Prints

I know this has been discussed to death, but in comparing prints between Aperture 2.0, LR, and PS, I stumbled on an interesting result. We all know that some legacy printers do not support 16 bit data paths in their drivers, and that applications that support 16 bit data paths like LR don't print to these printer correctly, and supposedly, Epson (and others) need to update their drivers. Well, by accident I set the wrong parameters when testing Aperture 2.0., and I didn't turn off the driver color management. The print I got was IDENTICAL to the prints I have been getting from LR. So it appears that LR's color management is getting double managed, as if the driver color management was not turned off, and that is creating the horrible magenta cast. Aperture 2.0 supposedly implements 16 bit data paths, but for some reason, it does not fight with the printer driver. It prints just fine. Maybe this data will help figure out, if even for Epson, what is going on.

DYP
Well ... yeah ... I know. I have no problem printing in LR.
Doug,
Are you using Epson papers and Epson profiles? If so, no change to make; however, if using non Epson paper with non Epson profile, you need to set the profile you specify in LR using the ColorSync Utility->Devices->Your 2200 printer->Paper specified in driver->(click on drop down to change default) Other->navigate to the specific profile set in LR for LR managed. Worth a try, even if though your driver is not updated. I'd be curious if it works.

I am trying to print a color photo on my MacBook Pro from iPhoto (not using Photoshop) using Epson 2200 printer, and everything I do in the Color Matching and Print Settings results in a photo with a pink cast to it. What am I doing wrong?

Have you checked the ink cartridges and made sure the nozzles are clear? Are you able to print from outside of iPhoto with the correct color?
Try the following: make temporary copy of the library and do the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • Epson drivers in conjunction to the 10.4.6 update .... Epson 2200 printer

I have a Epson 2200 printer seems something has happened to Epson drivers in conjunction with the recent 10.4.6 update .. getting "jobs stopped " from Epson borderless driver when I try to print anything ...
    Any ideas ?
I know the Epson 2200 drivers on Mac have been buggy for years .
I know the Epson 2200 drivers on Mac have been buggy for years .. it is only recently been able to get Epson 2200 to work properly & consistently is controlling via Lightroom's print module
I know Epson 2200 is primarily a photo printer , & I know does not work as a photo printer on airport .. only as a standard text printer a job it does lack luster ..
I know Epson 2200 has multiple drivers , seven drivers in fact .. borderless , roll paper , roll paper borderless .. etc .....
I am guessing something has happened to Epson drivers in the 10.4.6 update .. printer a Epson 2200 printer (& scanner Epson 2450 scanner are unavailable (getting a "could not complete the import command because there is no scanner installed " for the scanner from CS2 )

You might try resetting the printing system and reinstalling the printer. I know that when I upgraded my system at one point, the borderless printing driver had been folded into the other driver and was available through Page Setup. So you may be trying to use a driver that has been rendered obsolete.

  • Epson 2200 Printer disappeared from list and won't come back

My Epson 2200 printer has disappeared from my printer list, and I cannot find it again in the Firewire list. I have reinstalled the latest printer driver, I have tested plugging in someone else's Epson 2200 - and it shows up no problem. My printer won't even turn on when it is connected to my mac. Why would this happen all of a sudden?

Welcome to Discussions - Have you tried plugging your printer into another computer? It sounds as if the printer has problems. Have you tried unplugging it, then restarting and plugging it in? Does the USB port work with other peripherals? Try posting to the Epson SUPPORT page and see if anyone there has had the same experience.

  • Magenta cast on one account printed pic, not another

When I print a pic on my Canon 9000II printer, it has an overall heavy magenta cast.,  Printing the same pic from my wife;s account, normal color.  Any idea where there is a setting I can change in my account to give proper color?  I have recently installed 2 photo apps----Sigma SPP 5.5, and Iridient digital photo developer.  IMac 27, OSX 10.6.8 fully up to date. 2 accounts, mine and wife's, both administrator.

For number 1, login to your wife's account (or have her do it if you don't know her password), then open the System Preferences and click on Displays. Click on the Color tab. The profile highlighted in gray is the one being used by that account:
Then you need to find out if it's in the main root /Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder, or in her user account Profiles folder (~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles). To find out where it is, click the Open Profile button. The ColorSync Utility will open and load the profile. You're not going to modify it, just find its location. Command click on the name of the profile at the top of it's window. The path will be shown. In the case of my profile, its in the root Library folder:
If it were in her user account, it would read from the bottom up as the Computer_Name > Users > her_user_account_name > Library > ColorSync > Profiles. Close ColorSync Utility. If you accidentally changed something (unlikely) and it asks to save the file, quit without saving.
If it's in the root Library folder, you don't need to do anything other than login to your account and then choose the same profile in the System Preferences. If it's in her user account, while you're still logged into that account, copy the profile anywhere into the root Library folder. Logout and login to your account and move the copied profile into the Profiles folder of your user account. Then choose that profile in the System Preferences.

  • Why does my Epson 2200/ Print: Media Type list only 4 of the media types?

For some reason my Epson 2200 when I'm trying to print a photo in Photoshop, and other programs, shows under Print/Presets/Print Settings/Media Type: Plain Paper, Enhanced Matte Paper, Velvet Fine Art Paper and Water Color-Radiant White.
What isn't shown is the rest of the paper media types of: Premium Glossy, Premium Luster, Premium Semi Gloss, Canvas-Luster and a whole host of variations in those types of media. In essence what isn't showing are most of the print profiles from Epson for the different types of paper.
I done everything that I can think of to correct the problem and nothing seems to work. Now it has progressed to the point I'm have the same problem with my Epson Stylus Photo R200.
Both Printers are on USB connections. I've tried deleting the printers from the Printer Setup Utility; running Disk Utility/Repair Permissions; trashing Epson Printer Utility; trashing the preferences from the Home folder; trashing the Epson folder from the HD/Library/Printers folder; and then reinstalling all of those trashed items and deleted items and running Disk Utility/Repair Permissions.
Nothing seems to work! I need help here ..... what am I doing wrong??

I figured it out myself and answered my own question. If you have matte black ink installed when you are trying to print on glossy, the paper type is limited to only that media which black matte ink is specified. You have to switch out the matte ink for photo black ink. Delete the printer from the Printer Setup Utility and reinstall the printer. Whereas with the Photo Black Ink you can print on all types of media.
Nothing like driving yourself crazy over a minor point that puts a cog in the wheels of progress. :O)

  • Windows vista/photoshop CS4/epson 2200 printer interdiction

my previous computer used windows xp and worked fine with cs4 and the epson 2200.  unfortunately, I have never been able to get this fairly new 64 bit vista system to work with cs4 and the epson 2200.  I have downloaded the 64 bit driver from epson and after talking with epson tech support it seems it is  not the printer.  I have tried virtually every combination of  deleting/reinstalling the driver, every combination of "letting printer manage colors" and letting photoshop manage colors, etc.  in the past, I have let photoshop manage colors.  then miraculously, i let the printer manage colors and it worked for a day or two and then it went back to the same muddy off color mess.  now, it looks the same no matter what I do.  somehow, it seems as if my windows program isn't interfacing with the printer.  if anyone has even the slightest suggestion of what to do next i would appreciate it.  other wise, i may just upgrade to windows seven to see if that works any better.

I knew Vista had a dislike for IDE
Thanks for sharing that piece of info. I might add, though, that Vista not per se dislikes IDE, it just does not like some IDE commands and running such disks in compatibility mode, which in part of course also depends not only on the disk, but also the motherboard or specific drivers that may be required. Anyway, given the low price of harddrives, replacing an old drive with a new SATA should be a nobrainer for most people...

  • Epson 2200 printer options missing in Leopard

I've just spent almost an hour with Apple Support and they were not able to help with this issue, despite the fact that a quick Google search shows that I'm not the only person with this problem.
I'm using the most recent Epson drivers from the Epson website and although I can print, I cannot select any paper types, resolution, double sided printing, high-speed, etc. I've tried to reset the printer queue, I've deleted all the driver from my Library>Printer folder and reinstalled... NOTHING.
Anyone have any suggestions? I've done several searches and followed the various procedures others have recommended to no avail.

I have no trouble printing to my 2200 using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and Preview.
What drivers are you using Epsons or Gutenprint? I am using the Epson one (ver 3.09)
You can find out the drivers by opening System Preferences -> Printers Select the Epson and then click on Open PRint Queue, click on the 'i' Info button in the print queue to see the version.
I think you need to use Epson's. I downloaded them from their site and installed them. I also downloaded there paper profiles and installed them.
Finding the "handle" to get to the things you want to set was, and to some degree, still is, a bit obscure to me being relatively new to the Mac (and loving it!)
Using Preview as an example open an image and: Select File -> Print
In the middle of the column of various Settings you will see Preview click on it and you see a bunch of choices like: Page Settings, Color management, Print Settings etc. Each of these changes the options ans let's you select paper size, paper type, print speed who manages color etc.
    In Photoshop CS3
You select some of the options in (Photoshop File -> Print and the rest after you hit Print which gets you the Mac OS X Print dialog. In this case "Layout" is in the middle box instead of "Preview" but clicking on it reveals the same option dialogs.
There is a similar thread [here|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1669867] for the moment I'm working with him directly as we're into some nitty gritty specifics but I expect we'll summarize some of the results when we're done.
If this doesn't help give us some specifics of what/how you're trying to print.

  • Printing with Epson 2200 and Lightroom v1.3.1

Ever since installing Leopard and Lightroom v1.3.1 in my PowerMac G5, my Epson 2200 printer produces prints with a very significant magenta cast. Does anyone know of this problem or, better yet, does anyone know how to solve this problem?
    Thank you in advance.

I loaded file 11832 from epson us site. This driver v3.0aAs is for v10.4.4 - 10.4.x intel based macs. Even though it's not for leopard? I did this as nothing else work prior for LR. I also downloaded easyprint v3.1bA. I set it to managed by printer then hit print, at this point I set color sync on the pull down tab along with checking the rest of that printer menu such as paper type i.e. glossy profile and the mode to advanced print quality 1440 with the high speed box unchecked. The rendering intent is perceptual & print res at 360 dpi. The print output is at acceptable than most of what I had prior which was lack luster. I did base my start point for LR from the LR book by Scott Kelby. I think the output can be tweaked a bit which is my next endeavor. This did work so I hope that this help's.

  • IPhoto 6 and Epson Stylus Photo 2200 Printer

The photos that I print from iPhoto 6 to my Epson 2200 printer are all coming out way too green. What settings do I need to use in the print dialog -- and color management? -- to get decent results? I can print beautifully from Photoshop CS2 to the 2200. I just can't figure out what settings to use in iPhoto. Thanks in advance for your help with this question. _sidpink
    G5 Tower   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Kingstone's reply was helpful even though a little discouraging. But it made me realize that the problem probably lies with the choice of which software is doing the color management. The Epson 2200 printer driver provides some "advanced" settings in the print window, and I had been specifying "No color adjustment," because that's the setting recommended when printing from Photoshop. I had simply been trying the same setting when printing from iPhoto. But I went back and printed a photo from iPhoto using the "Color Controls" setting (without changing any of the variables), and the print came out perfectly! So I've answered the question to my satisfaction thanks to Kingstone's reply -- and I don't have to go out and invest in Photoshop Elements.

  • Color of prints to epson 2200 suddenly shifted.

I am running 10.4.11 and print to an Epson 2200 printer. I am pretty good on profiles and color management.
All of a sudden I am experiencing a color shift on some of my tried and true images. The images are darker and have a green shift and no vibrancy. I have cleaned heads, etc. and checked and rechecked the color management settings. Its like overnight something has changed. I have read posts elsewhere that Snow Leopard can exhibit this change but I am at a loss to explain what has happened. I have done a software update sometime in the last month.

I'm struggling with the same issue with my Epson CX5000 on 10.5.8. Photos are printing darker than they used to, especially in the blue/black colors. Flesh tones look good and sharpness is unchanged. Several black and white prints now have a sepia tint to them as well. Getting same results whether I print from iPhoto or Printshop Elements. Still scouring the net for a solution but I've eaten 3/4 of a cartridge set just trying to resolve this... not cheap at $60 a set.

  • 1.3.1 + OSX Leopard + Epson 2200 = Magenta pictures

Has anyone managed to get this combination to print without a magenta cast? Photoshop CS3 prints just fine, but Lightroom using the exact same settings prints magenta. Note that I am meticulous in checking the printer settings to make sure that color management is turned off in the printer, so that both Lightroom and Photoshop have the exact same settings.
After reading another post about magenta I tried deleting the printer driver and adding it back in, but no luck.
At least there's a workaround, printing from Photoshop, but I'd much rather simply print from Lightroom.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated...

I don't haver this printer but from this forum it appears that in these not yet leopard compatible printers, you cannot turn off color management in the modern printing path that Lightroom uses, resulting in double color management and therefore dark/magenta prints. Your only bet for the moment is to do color management in the driver instead of in lightroom for printing from lightroom or print from non-cocao apps such as Photoshop, preview, etc.

  • LR4.1 Printing with magenta cast?

    Hello Adobe
I have just moved to LR4.1 from a bridge/PS6 workflow. I am having issues with the prints having a magenta cast. I have a colour managed workflow (Eizo ColourEdge monitor, Datacolour calibration, Epsom R3000 using paper manufacturers icc profiles). The magenta cast is happening when printing through LR4 using the papers icc profile. Same file is fine when printed with the same profile through CS6.
I can see some questions with the same issue but cannot see a resolution that is applicable. Is it you or me? Help please

Many thanks. Problem solved- instead of "No colour Adjustment" the setting was "sRGB". All good now
