I bought myself a "more." metal case (exactly the same one as below) in August... I realised couple of days later, that my signal got worse. I started getting a maximum of 2 out of 5 bars of coverage, and I used to get 3-4 on the same spot on my desk (coverage in my area is pretty bad...). I tried to call my network provider to doublecheck (o2 UK), they said, there was no issues with their network. Oh well, I thought, life must go on...
I took my case off today to clean my phone under the case, as it looked a bit dusty. Then I realised my phone is getting 4 out of 5 bars again! I tried to put the case back on - 2 bars, case off - 4 bars, AGAIN case on - 2, and for the last time - case off - 4. Now the phone is in its silicone black cover that it was at the time I got the "more." case, and it's been showing 4 bars for the last hour... I have contacted the manufacturer already and I'm waiting for their response. At the moment I would not suggest getting this kind of case (it was more than 20 quid...!) if you live in the poor coverage area...

The new Para Duo Metal case for the iphone 5 looks pretty nice and is not too expensive, but is it ok to have a metal case on this phone and not have service interruptions? Wether it be bluetooth signal, internet (wifi Signal) or cellular network connection(phone calls)? Has any one had any issues with this before?

Well first off, the case is not metal. It is an anodized polycarbonate plastic with a metallic finish that goes on top of a pure silicone inner case.
You do not want a case made out of metal, if nothing else it would scratch too easily and add too much weight to the phone and that's in addition to the loud clinging you'd get when you set it down.
The object of this case is to immitate metal in the most elegant way possible, and More-Thing has done just that.
The special plastic holds the finish better and gives you a lighter and more cushioned protection than real metal.
If real metal is your thing, you may want to consider a different phone, because iPhone 5 being made of aluminum and glass is pushing case makers away from metal.

Need help finding a Metal case for my Iphone

I sometimes work around heavy equipment and bump into things and I fear that I will break my Iphone so it is just sitting in a box until I can find something that will really protect it. What I would like is a metal case that has a metal cover that flips over the front glass part. I want to be able to have it withstand someone stepping on it and not break the glass or any part of it. I do have a metal case but it doesn't protect the front screen and I can't seem to find something that protects the whole thing. Has anyone seen what I am looking for and can point me to it. Thanks very much.

Any case you put around the iPhone should also be transparent to radio waves around the antenna. Metal is not.
There are several hard plastic cases that are radio transparent, but I am not aware of any metal cases that meet your requirements, and would still allow the iPhone to access wireless networks or use the phone portion.

I'm having the same problem, even more:
- Watching movies over AppleTV: switches off every 20min (sleep mode).
- Listening to iTunes music ofer AirPlay: the same.
- A whole confusion with switching airplay destinations (AppleTV, AirportExpress) over iPhone remote app. Sometimes remote cannot find my library anymore
- Before, I was able to multitask: stream a DVD to AppleTV, using airplay mirroring, and simultaneously stream music from iTunes on the same computer, over the iTunes airplay selector, to loudspeakers connected to AirportExpress. No longer possible.
I've grown a big Apple fan in short time, proudly living what for others is the future (your media stored anyhwere, controlled from anywhere, played anywhere, stop thinking in terms of devices). And, I've learnt to savour the moments when you can look your Microsoft friends deep in the eyes and say: "The big difference with Apple - it just works"...
At the moment, I'm trying not to invite my friends.

I already tried the following:
a. Turned the phone off and then on.
b. Checked all wifi connections – no problem given that all our laptops and desktops can connect seamlessly.
c. I tried restoring the phone to original factory settings via itunes
d. Tried resetting the phone.
e. Tried different microsims from all networks
f. However, all methods failed given that the network reception is very weak and often reflects – “no service”. And with regards to the wifi reception It has difficulty in reading even the signal right in front of the wifi router.
I went to two Apple resellers here in Bangkok and requested that they please look at my Iphone and have it serviced. I was frustrated when they said that given that I bought my phone in Canada, they are not able to support me and should instead try to contact the Apple store in Canada.
I went to apple.ca website and went to the expresslane support and I was said to register and callback. Tried calling the 1800 number but given that I was in Thailand I had difficulty getting a connection.

You cannot. Apple also does not repair iPhones.
Did you purchase Apple Care Plus? If yes, they will replace the phone for a $49 fee.
If nothing else is wrong, I'd just put it in a case and not worry about it.

Should the opening of a case for the iphone 4s be big to allow more light in or it does not make a difference?

I got an otterbox case for the iphone 4. It is a universal case. The opening for the camera is small I was wondering if this would affect the quality of the pictures. Please advise.

Try resetting the phone:
Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release.
Then, launch iTunes & connect your phone...what happens?

Weak signal fail with 3.1

Anybody else notice a loss of weak signal pull in? On 9/1/09 it seems a new tower turned on and I suddenly had a couple of bars at my remote mountain house that I'd never had before, the signal stayed strong roaming around in my remote area very much better than before. then I updated and blammo no more signal, zilcho,nothing bummer.

I noticed that my phone occasionally "freezes" during phone conversations (2 out of 5!) which requires the complete power-down of the phone. This never occurred under 3.0.1 firmware. I'm holding my breath to see what I'll discover next!
Apple, please give us some way to reload 3.0.1 firmware!!! I don't give a rat's behind about the new & improves MMS or other features that were supposedly rolled into this newest version of the FW. I can't even use this iPhone as a reliable telephone!!!
For what it's worth, I also notice that occasionally the signal strength decreases to near zero, and I can't access the internet or even place calls. This is when I know I'm in close proximity to a cell tower (I know, because my wife's phone has full signal strength). I wonder if this is somehow related to the rapid battery discharge, as the phone may be "hunting" for a signal (endlessly transmitting, and looking for a response from the cell tower).

Weak Signal or No Service after upgrading firmware 1.1.2

I live in Los Angeles, Hollywood area, and for the past 2 months have had nothing but headaches with weak signal strength, no signal, dropped calls and slow data service. Sometimes the phone will have 5 bars then go down to zero bars or no signal without even moving! I think it must be the iphone/at&t service/software, since my friends on standard phones with AT&T seem to not have these issues.. I have seen on other message boards that other iPhone users around the country are experiencing similar issues...
No one seems to answer my question, "Could this problem be related to the Edge/3G combination have anything to do with this problem? The first 5 months of using the Iphone, I only noticed slight weak signal problems, generally related to having the wifi radio on. But this problem is occurring with wifi off. I have Reset the Phone, restored the phone, re-seated the SIM card, check to ensure SIM show no physical damage, all to no avail. You folks need to give me some real answers, and not just the standard we don't know. Now I must add there are some places like 6700 Hollywood Bl. where the signal is great both Voice and Data, but a 1700 N. Las Palmas the signal drops off to one bar, and at 1737 N. Firstly, "we" folks here are iPhone users, just like yourself, not Apple employees (though there are a few who sometimes post here of their own volition, and not because they have to). So your problem will be answered or advised on depending on our own experiences with the iPhone. To that point, I am in the UK, and am one of those people who have suffered from exactly the same problem as you: my iPhone gets very poor reception in areas where other 02 (UK network) phones get near perfect reception. There is a rather long thread on this topic, and another similar one which was started when the original was locked by the mods. I'm afraid that after much troubleshooting, we are still no closer to finding the source of the problem. What seems pretty clear is that the iPhone antenna probably isn't as sensitive as those of other phones. Also, it's on the bottom of the phone, so can be covered with your hand causing a drop in signal strength. It may also be that in an attempt to conserve battery life, the iPhone doesn't boost the signal as much as it should. But there are all speculations at the moment.

Can I update more than one iPad and iPhone to ios 5 from the same MacBook pro? Our family has one MacBook pro and several iphones and ipads. No one wants to lose their iTunes music or contact list or calendars.

Yes, but you will want to think it through before you do it.
The computer will become the "master" device, holding the definitive collection of music, photos, contacts, etc., and each iPad or iPhone will get a copy of what's on the computer. So if everyone has different collections of music or photos that you all want to keep separate from each other, you'll want to set up different accounts on the MacBook Pro. To do that, go into "System Preferences" and click "Users", then click the "+" to create a new account for each person who needs their own set of files.
That way you can each log in to your own MacBook account before you sync your iPhone or iPad, and everyone has their own copy of iTunes and their own iPhoto. If you happen to plug in an iPhone while logged into someone else's account, you just click "don't sync" (the 1st time only, it will remember after that). Sharing the same files becomes tricky, so this is only the best method if you want to keep things 100% separate.
On the other hand, if you all have your music and photos mishmashed together on the MacBook anyway or just don't care about keeping things separate, just go ahead and sync your iPhones and iPads without setting up new accounts. But in this case, you should create playlists and photo albums in iTunes and iPhoto. Then plug in an iPhone, click on it's icon in iTunes, and change the settings for Music, Photos, etc to only sync the playlists that you want on that device. Repeat for each one. They'll all remember their own settings, and continue to sync with their designated playlists or albums.
What you cannot do is use more than one computer with a single iPhone. That will wipe out the music and photos that were on it already, replacing them with the ones on the second computer.

Io/26 and weak signals

I recently purchased an io/26 (using current drivers) and have been experiencing some pretty weak signals into GB, mostly when I'm using a mic (an EV 767) to record guitars and vocals. I believe I've got things set up correctly, but I'd like to be wrong...
I usually have to get the mic right up to the speaker or sing extremely close to the mic. The mic uses the xlr input on channel 1 or 2, with the switch on the mic/line setting as opposed to the guitar setting; phantom power is off. With these settings, I have to turn the gain up to about 80% to get a decent signal into GB. The driver software is pretty simple and doesn't allow me to adjust input levels. There is some "HDM" software (hardware direct monitoring) but I'm assuming this only affects sound routed back to the io for monitor speakers or headphones.
I'm hoping I'm just doing something stupid. I realize the ev767 is a vocal mic, but it should be a decent multi-purpose mic for my needs. One thing I am not able to do because the input is so weak is to place a mic far enough away from an amp (or a person) to get the sound of a room. Frustrating.
While I've been searching other threads here for similar issues, nothing seems directly relevant. Mostly, this is because the io/26 disables most of the software input settings that is a solution for usb mics, usb/midi input, etc.
Has anyone else come across this problem?

Addendum - 4G - what's really strange is an hour ago iPhone had signal & iPad did not - now, phone has 3 bars & iPad has 3 as well. Original issue not isolated - phone will have cellular and iPad won't.

Hello! I am one of those galaxy nexus owners who absolutely love the phone but HATE the weak signal...
When I am in an open area, I seem to get pretty good reception on my phone, but everything changes when I go inside a building! I get HORRIBLE reception inside buildings (like my house and work), which causes my phone to slightly heat up and drain battery very quickly. I am tired of having to turn on airplane mode in these situations to conserve battery! I can confidently say that it is the phone, not the area, that causes the weak signal because my friends who have Verizon iPhones get 2-3 bars of 3G when I have ZERO bars...
I have tried almost everything to improve signal (restart phone, take out battery and sim card, allow CDMA only, etc.) , and nothing seems to have worked!!! My sister, who also has a galaxy nexus, has the same problems as I do, so I doubt a replacement phone/sim card would be any help.
Does anyone know if Verizon/Google/Samsung will be releasing an update to improve signal for this phone?

I'm having these problems as well. I keep thinking the next software update will fix it, but it hasn't. At least not fully. I was with my wife on a road trip over Thanksgiving weekend and took some comparison screenshots of both phones. As you'll see in these screenshots, the Galaxy Nexus barely has a bar of 3G, while the iPhone boast full strength. Yes, I know that bars are only a visual representation, but it's hard to get DBM information on the iPhone. I can tell you the Galaxy Nexus couldn't even load a mobile friendly web-site, while the iPhone did. Here I avoided the iPhone 4S because of "signal issues". A lot of good that did me. Thoughts Verizon? Replacement SIM cards don't fix the issue.

How can I restore the matt metal look to my iphone 4 stainless steel band as it is all shiney

Well I have an iphone 4 and the metal band around it has lost the whole of its matt metal look and now looks all shiny and horrible. Is there any way at all in which I can restore the matt metal look to my iphones metal band as I really want to get the matt look back. Weak signal from Airport Express on extended network

I'm receiving only 2 bars from my Airport Express even with devices right next to it (see attached pics). I've reset the Airport Express and the extended network setup goes fine there's just a weak signal. If I take my devices to the modem router I get a full signal. Any ideas?
