  • Mini with PC keyboard: how well is work?

    Hi,
If using a mini with a PC keyboard, is there any problems with the special keys? I mean, how do you know where is teh command key? and how will you find special keys like french accent or brackets and so on?
Also, is it easy to use a PS/2 keyboard with the mini using a cheap adaptor? How much are those adaptor?
    Thanks

    Hello,
If using a mini with a PC keyboard, is there any
problems with the special keys? I mean, how do you
No. Works just fine. The keys will do as they are labeled. And, never had a single problem using Windows keyboards on my Macs. Even as far back as OS 8.6 with a USB Microsoft keyboard.
know where is teh command key? and how will you find
The ALT key on the Windows keyboard becomes the "Option" / "ALT" key in OS X.
The Windows Key becomes the "" / "Command" key in OS X
Num Lock becomes the "Clear" key on the numeric keypad.
special keys like french accent or brackets and so
    on?
I've never messed with French typing. So, I can't say there. But, everything should still work like it would with a regular Mac Keyboard.
Also, is it easy to use a PS/2 keyboard with the mini
using a cheap adaptor? How much are those adaptor?
Depends on the keyboard. Not all PS/2 keyboards will work with a PS/2 to USB adapter. I've only found a very small handful that will.
Most of the keyboards that are PS/2-only and come with a PC from a major manufacturer will not work with a PS/2 to USB adapter.
The PS/2 to USB adapters cost around $15 to $30. You can get a cheap USB keyboard for around $15 at Wal-Mart.
    Just get a USB keyboard.
    I hope this helps.

  • Getting IntelliType for Microsoft keyboards and/or mice to load at startup in Mountain Lion

To date, Microsoft hasn't fixed the issue with the IntelliType drivers in Mountain Lion so they load by themselves. You have to open the System Preferences and click on the Microsoft Keyboard or Mouse panes to get them to load. The following will eliminate the need to perform these manual steps.
I'd like to give credit to the person who first discovered this, but having found the same text in numerous places, I can't single out the origin.
Navigate to the folder /Library/PreferencePanes/ of the startup drive
Right click on Microsoft Mouse.prefpane for mice, Microsoft Keyboard.prefPane for keyboards
From the resulting contextual menu, select Show Package Contents
Navigate down to Contents > Resources
Leave the Resources folder open on the desktop and open the System Preferences
    Select Users & Groups
Click on your user account and then the Login Items tab
Go back to the Resources folder on the desktop, select the file MicrosoftMouseHelper or MicrosoftKeyboardHelper, then drag and drop it into the Login Items window on the right hand side of the Login Items page (in the System Preferences window).
In the sample below, I added the keyboard helper.
Repeat the steps if you added the keyboard helper and also need the mouse helper.
Now when you restart or start up your Mac, these helpers will load automatically.
For users wondering if this is some sort of hack, it is not. If you've used IntelliType in Lion, Snow Leopard, or other previous versions of OS X, you'll see that MicrosoftMouseHelper and/or MicrosoftKeyboardHelper are in the user account Login Items. What's probably happening is security changes in Mountain Lion, such as sandboxing, are preventing these Login Items from being added during installation. So all you're doing is manually completing a step the IntelliType installer is failing at.

how you found this solution is beyond me as i did google a few days ago and found nothing.
I've looked numerous times, also. Must have gotten the right keywords this time.
What symptoms will a poster have if this is the problem?
I can't speak for users of the mouse panel, but if you're using one of the Microsoft keyboards the drivers are for, your keyboard won't be completely functional. Among the problems:
    1) The keyboard will remain mapped for a PC. The Alt (Option) key is next to the spacebar and will stay there, which means the Windows logo key will respond as the Command key, which is between Alt and Ctrl. To the right of the spacebar, the Alt key will again be Option, but the menu key between that and the right Ctrl key won't do anything you expect. To say the least, not having the Command key in its normal Mac position is a real pain.
    2) None of the other special keys will work, like the entire string of silver keys across the top of the 4000.
gave you credit and pointed back to this for ya. great guy.
Thanks! I hadn't seen that site before. Looks like a person could spend days there. I'll have to bookmark that one.
A secondary note: For users wondering if this is some sort of hack, it is not. • Windows 7, Microsoft Keyboard Media Keys (Play/Pause), and iTunes

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and iTunes 9.0.1.8 with Microsoft Intellipoint 7.0 and a Microsoft Keyboard with media keys.
In previous versions of Windows, iTunes, and Intellipoint, pressing the "play/pause" key on the keyboard would play or pause iTunes -- even when iTunes wasn't the active application.
In my current setup, when iTunes is minimized, then the media keys don't control iTunes.
Is this a bug? Is there something I can do to fix the situation?
I've asked Microsoft for help, and they say it looks to be a compatibility issue with iTunes. So, now I'm asking Apple. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have this same problem, but with Windows XP Pro. It MUST be a iTunes and a Microsoft IntelliType driver issue.
I JUST reinstalled my computer and loaded all new everything and the buttons worked off and on (depending on focus). I don't remember doing anything to make it work last time. The only thing I remember was installing a plug-in so my ATI Remote Wonder worked with iTunes.
I downloaded Chris's dll as suggested. Worked flawlessly. I hope Apple and/or Microsoft fix this in the next release of their software.

  • I have a keyboard that i'd like to use...don't hate me, but, it's my old microsoft keyboard. My IMAC isn't recognizing it. Is there any way I might get it to work? Thanks!

Is it possible to sync my old microsoft keyboard to my IMAC?  I don't have the funds to buy a new one right now and like a larger keyboard...don't hate me...I love my MAC but need a larger keyboard for now.
    Thanks!!!

USB keyboards are generic and should work without any difficulty.
If it's a wireless keyboard, it may or may not work, depending on the drivers Microsoft uses. The following instructions apply to Apple Bluetooth keyboards but it may be useful as a general resource: Bluetooth: How to set up your Apple Wireless Keyboard. Be sure to refer to the Bluetooth Quick Assist link as well.
More information may be found in Bluetooth frequently asked questions
There is no way to know whether your keyboard will work or not in advance, but there is no harm in attempting to use one or the other.

  • Microsoft keyboard and Flash

Does anyone know how to get arounf this issue?
When using Flash, Microdedia shortcuts with "F" do not work..
It seems like MC keyborad only designed for application like MC
    word,, Internet etc..

Firstly this is not a Flash issue, it is your lack of
understanding of your own keyboard as on most Microsoft keyboards
there is a 'F' key in the top right to toggle between two modes for
the Function keys these two modes are:
    1. Microsoft Application Shortcuts (on by default)
    2. Function Keys (eg. F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, etc...)

  • New mac mini and wireless keyboard

how do I set up a new mac mini and wireless keyboard at the same time?

Since the Mac Mini does not come with a Monitor, Keyboard or Mouse those are needed when setting up a Mac Mini. I don't know what brand wireless KB you have or if that even matters.
I have an Apple wireless keyboard (bluetooth), Apple magic trackpad (bluetooth), and Dell DVI monitor. When I initially booted my new Mac Mini, the screen showed it searching for bluetooth devices. It found the keyboard first and then a few seconds later, the mouse. So, I had all devices to finish setup of the Mini.

    In Logic, yes.
I'm curious If I can run more than one midi application, is this possible?
Yes. you have to set up the Midi, pslit it up between the applications. e.g. channels 1-8 to app 1, and channels 9-16 to app 2.
Then select the channels according to what application you want to play.

  • When I disable my left windows key for gameing using Microsoft keyboard and mouse software, I can no longer type in firefox. How can i fix this?

Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse Software that you install with Microsoft keyboard and mice, (latest version) allows you to disable your windows key so that you don't accidentally hit it when gaming. When I take advantage of this feature, I can no longer type in Firefox. Typing in Firefox is completely disabled. Other browsers, windows, applications work, but not Firefox. What is it about the windows key that firefox needs for typing. Strange problem, but annoying because I have to use a different browser while game. Certainly not a deal breaker, but kinda strange.

  • Mapping keys on Microsoft Keyboard

I have a Microsoft keyboard plugged into my MacBook Pro. Functionally it works fine. But since the keys are mapped in a different way, I constantly screw up the key presses when it's plugged in on my desk, or same thing when I don't have it plugged in and I'm on the road.
I've used DoubleCommand to remap keys before, but it remaps any all all keyboards, and doesn't differentiate between the MBP keyboard and an external keyboards.
Is there a tool or a method that I can not do anything to the MBP, but remap an external Microsoft keyboard?
    Thanks!

    Anyone? I'm dying over here!

  • Key swap problem using Microsoft keyboard with my Mac

The keyboard used with my TiBook is an old (circa 1997) ergonomic "Natural Keyboard" made by Microsoft. I'd like to fix the problem of having the "Command" key function swapped with the "Alt" key. Downloading and installing the latest Microsoft keyboard driver for Mac (for OSX 1 thru 4) didn't fix the problem (even though I checked the box to swap the "Command" key (i.e., the Windows key) and ALT key. Is my keyboard just too old?
