More multicam weirdness - CC

Okay... I have an unusual multicam with an even more unusual problem.
We are making short videos for a Spanish class.  These are mostly three cameras with additional, non-sync audio for each of the main actors.  Each video is shot in short takes with a little overlap that need to be put together in a multicam sequence.
I used the new audio sync feature to (successfully!) sync up about 70 files.  They auto sorted into a dozen different multiclips and, for the most part, Premiere was close to perfect!  This is wonderful since my Spanish is "no muy buena"!
I opened each of the multiclips in the timeline.  It is important that I include the audio from each of the actors so I turned all of the relevant audio tracks on.  I selected the best take from each multiclip and pasted these into a new sequence with the intent of making that into a multicam sequence the old fashioned way.  I suspect this is my problem.
When I drag this new nest to the new item icon I get a single video and audio track and all of the audio tracks play at once (all very good).  BUT when I enable the Multi-Camera most of the audio tracks (all of the useful ones) go away even though they were happily playing muxed in the nest before I enabled Multi-Camera!
Any ideas on why this is happening or how I could proceed differently?  I'd really like to use the multi-camera feature but it will be difficult to edit each little piece and then bring it into a finished sequence.
Here are some screen grabs to help:
My original, hand-made, nest called "ALL_techshop"
The new item created when "ALL_techshop" is dragged onto the new item icon.  All of the audio channels that I have turned on paly simultaneously
Enabling the Multi-Camera turns off all of the useful channels:

There may be a new cool simple way or button to take care of this, but if I understand your post correctly...did you try option+selecting just the video tracks only and then right-clicking and selecting "nest" then right-click again and select multi-camera>enable. That is how I used to do it on CS6 and it worked recently on CC. That way your video is nested all on one track but your audio remains untouched. I don't know why when you did it some of the tracks turned off. Might be something simple that's not being toggled on or off, not sure. But you can try what I suggested for now and see if it helps.
HOWEVER...please be aware before you start your multicam edit that there is a huge, giant, ugly, ridiculously unacceptable bug with multicam in Premiere Pro CC right now that has essentially broken the multicam experience. If you don't know about it, read about it below or you may be left losing hours of editing work:

Good luck!

  • Multicam weirdness - Premiere CC Mac

I've been loving the new multicam features but I just hit a problem.  I'm using Premiere CC on a Mac, all updated.  I cut a three camera multicam last week and I just wanted to look at a few parts again to see if I choose the best angle.  When I set the Program Monitor to Multi-Camera, the screen goes black, no angles at all are displayed.  When I set it to Composite, the single angle displayed looks fine.
You can see from the timeline that all three angles are loaded and active (so nothing is turned off in the Nest).  I also double checked and the timeline and the Multicam is still active, not flattened.  Of the four multicam sequences I edited last week (all in the same project), two work as expected and two don't.
Here is the sequence opened with the Program monitor set to Composite:
Here it is with multicam selected:

I just found out some more info.  I opened and older, auto-save of the project and the multicam sequence *was* working correcty.  I reviewed it and made a few corrections (all was going well).  Then I changed to the color-correcting workspace.  When I left that and went back to the editing-workspace two of my four sequences open in the Timeline were closed.  When I re-opened them, the multicam window was black.
Looks like a bug to me.  I can't wait for the "October 15th" update!

  • More filtering weirdness

Hi all: I am still seeing an issue on our BM3.9sp2 box running on NW6.5sp8 and eDir 8.8.5.
I have two credit card machines, one in subnet 10.1.x.x and one in subnet 10.2.x.x which is across a wan. Here are the filters I setup:
    10.1.x.x subnet
    outbound
    traffic: all_tcp
    source: private - host: 10.1.1.98
    Dest: public - any address
    inbound
    traffic: all_tcp
    source: public - any address
    Dest: private - host: 10.1.1.98
    10.2.x.x subnet
    outbound
    traffic: all_tcp
    source: private - host: 10.2.1.98
    Dest: public - any address
    inbound
    traffic: all_tcp
    source: public - any address
    Dest: private - host: 10.2.1.98
The credit card machine in the 10.2.x.x subnet works fine while the machine in 10.1.x.x does not.
So I tried the old turn of ipflt and see if things work trick. Instantly both machines worked fine. So I turned ipflt back on and again only the one machine worked. For kicks I again turned of ipflt and guess what, only the one machine worked (10.2.x.x). The machine at 10.1.1.98 would not connect even with ipflt unloaded. I repeatedly retested and even with ipflt off the machine on 10.1.x.x would not connect.
    Weird. Any thoughts? Thanks, Chris.

    1. If traffic is always started in one direction, then you only need one
    filter and make it stateful.
    2. Are you using imanager or filtcfg to create the filters? did you
check in filtcfg/configure interface options that the nics are correctly
    defined s public and private?
    3. If you unload ipflt and still fails, load pktscan.nlm on the server
and take a lan trace to see where the traffic fails.

  • More Sound Weirdness

I managed to connect external speakers to my MacPro (via the audio jack on the back of the machine) and finally figured out how to get them to work. And they work just fine except for this one problem.
Whenever I go to print a file, no matter what program I am printing from, I get a loud ping alert from the external speakers. It's not the sound I have selected for alerts. It's a different one. And it's obnoxiously loud. It happens for a few other computer functions as well. I'd like to turn it off - or at least dampen the volume - but I have tried every sound tweak I could find and nothing works.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Nevermind.....
I went back and noodled around some more. Turns out the problem occurrs only in Microsoft Office applications and after fussing with the Help menu for a bit I finally figured out how to turn off the sound. (But, oddly, no way to keep the sound but lower the volume.)
Just in case someone else should have this problem: In Word go to Preferences (Note: a Word file must be open in order for you to do this). Then to General. Then clear the "Provide feedback with sound" checkbox.
    Adios.

  • More reel weirdness

    Hi Everyone -
So I have a few projects that I built on one machine and now I need to move to a new machine.  Folder structure is exactly the same as it was on the original box - and preferences in terms of frame rate (everywhere you can enter frame rate) are exactly the same.
So when I open the .ircp on the new machine predicably all of my reels are offline - however when I try load from desktop I get the warning message that the frame rate of some of the reels doesn't match the current frame rate...blah blah blah.
What's even weirder is if I had the clips to a blank timeline they go in just find but if I try to rebuild or reload the reels from media thats online I get the same message.
This is extremly frustrating because I can't seem to move projects around from machine to machine.  I've verified that all media is 23.976 and that all of my projects are also 23.976.
    HELP!!!!

Safari preferences and Click To Flash have nothing to do with it, so deleting or removing those won't solve the problem. If I were you, I'd download the 10.6.2 Update and reinstall that, then Repair Disk Permissions and then restart Safari to see if the problem continues.

  • More iPod Weirdness......

    Hi,
I posted the other day concerning problems of waking the iPod. I usually have to force sleep and then wake before a selected song will play.
I did a restore and it was no avail, the problem still occurs but I have encountered further "symptoms" or clues. First it seems to only do this when using in my car with a cassette adaptor. Could this mess with it's head? I also noticed that the plug of the cassette adaptor is a a bit looser and sometimes works it's self loose resulting in lost fidelity of sound.
    Part 2 Weirdness
When I plug it into my Powerbook it used to go straight to "do not unplug" with slashed circle icon. Now it does that initially but will revert to just the large "charge" battery icon. When I "wake" it, it goes to the menu as if not plugged in. It will then go back to the charge battery then go to sleep/dark screen. iTunes recognizes and I can make changes via iTunes. Not too odd but it didn't do this till the restore.......
    Weird little gadget....
    Warren
PS ALL software is current and no issues elsewhere.

Safari preferences and Click To Flash have nothing to do with it, so deleting or removing those won't solve the problem. If I were you, I'd download the 10.6.2 Update and reinstall that, then Repair Disk Permissions and then restart Safari to see if the problem continues.

  • More Safari weirdness

In addition to the bug I've chimed in on elsewhere in this forum (Bookmarks Bar doesn't appear when opening new windows), now the Tab Bar is displaying weirdness, as shown in the screenshot below.

Resetting Safari, trashing prefs and ClickToFlash (the only enhancement I've added) has no effect

  • Flatten multicam weirdness

I am finishing up a multicam project. Setup and editing of the multiple cameras went very smoothly. This was a 45 minute concert video. After getting all the camera cuts right I wanted to flatten the sequence and then trim out the dead areas.
When I flattened the sequence there were sections where the clips had diagonal bars and no video played in those sections. I undid the flatten and opened up the nested multicam sequence and found that in those areas there were some gaps on tracks that were not active tracks. (i.e. camera3 was active camera 1 had a small gap. I found if I put black video in the gap things seemed to work.
This happens on my work computer and home computer Both are mac pros, one is an 8 core 2008 machine running 10.8.4 the other is a 12 core running 10.9. Both are runing  Premiere 7.2.1
I ahve plugin on my project, so to verify that it wasn't the plugins I built a multicam sequence with just video and flattened that and got the same result.
One thing I also discovered is if I double click on the sections with diagonal lines and no video, they will open in the source monitor and play fine there. If I drag that clip back to a timeline it goes back to the diagonl line no video state.
    Any ideas?

Can some other Premiere users or preferably someone in the Adobe staff please make this test:
    - Make a sequence and put som black video in it, name the sequence seq1
    - Put seq1 into a new sequence, name it seq2
    - Right click and enable multicam for the seq1 clip inside seq2
    - Flatten the seq1 clip and notice that everything works fine
    - Undo the flatteing, go into seq1 and make multiple edits using the razor tool (not moving any clips, just making cuts)
    - Go to seq2 and perform the flatten feature once again and see what happens
In previous versions of PRP you would end up with the exact same source clips and edits in seq2 as in seq1 after flatteing, which is what you really want. In PRP 7.2.1 you end up with one single clip with diagonal lines beacause of the timecode being misplaced. Somehow the flatten feature in Premiere 7.2.1 gets confused by edits inside of a multicam sequence.

  • More Keychain weirdness

I verified Keychain but the report came back "unverified" because of problems. I repaired as suggested and all items disappeared. Restarted and everything reappeared. Again, verified and problems reappeared.
    Suggestions????

One (somewhat drastic) solution which should fix most problems is to delete the login item in your keychain altogether. Then quit keychain access and log out/in. all your saved passwords will be gone so you'll have to start saving them in the keychain again.

  • More screen weirdness...

i just got my display replaced (3rd one in a 2 month old laptop).
    Here's what it looks like:
    http://web.mac.com/joshstevens79/TheChronicles_of_Joshua/Blankfiles/DSC00027a.jpg
is it me, or is it uneven?

It's uneven. Trust your eyes, it'll be you who'll be looking at the screen. I'm in the same position and while I think the displays are good I can't live with the uneveness. Seems I'm sensitive to this, as others who I show my screen to don't really see a problem and if they do (when pointed out) can live with it. Not good enough in my eyes if you've just spent $2000.
    My MacPros so far:-
9C67 (LG) Matte: Uneven and small yellow tint to bottom of screen.
9C68 (Samsung) Glossy: Yellow tint to bottom 1/3 but not uneven.

  • More text weirdness

I'm using Motion 3 for the first time (been using 2 fairly successfully) and have found the Text tool much harder to manipulate. For instance, I can't do all caps for a word and have the first letter a different font size than the rest of the word by highlighting it and changing the font size. Am I missing something here?

No, in fact, I just tried it and it used to force me to highlight the text on the canvas (as opposed to just in the inspector) in order to do what you are suggesting.
I am now able to select a single character (either on the canvas or in the inspector) and alter its size independent of the other characters on the line.
(and you do know about the allcaps checkbox in the inspector, right?)

  • Where's the default location of multicam clip creation

This is silly but where does the multi cam clip goes whenever I create them? I have a fairly large project (8 years compilation) with about 1500 folders on a 96 Tb RAID array and whenever I create multicam, it's no where to be found. Is there a way to sort them out by type?

It took about 8-10 min to load it up. It gradually gets worse as the project complexity increases with more in/out, color graded previews, compound clip with subtitling plug ins, etc. Today will have no choice but break it up to smaller part.
Before multicam, it was only about 1.2 Gb. But whenever I add more multicam (about 3 hours from 6 cams all with AVC-I 100 codec), it grew to about 1 Gb more to about 2.2 Gb. There's no way I would want a 10 Gb+ library with the rate I'm going. I have about a dozen more multicam sequences from the 8 years of the doc. So have to chunk it to per year so that the library size is more manageable. Doing non-native media (rewrapped in FCP 7.0.3 from MXF-MOV) helps tremendously to decrease the library file size. For example, if I import native AVC-I 100 P2 files, the size instantly increases to 600 Gb for about 2.1 Tb worth of P2 media. For those who're doing all 4K workflow - I can only imagine the gigantic expense if this was all shot natively raw at 4K. It's just not practical yet until there's a single 12 Tb SATA-4 hdd. Now the largest single hdd is 6 Tb. Perhaps another 5 years for a it to be doubled from 2014. I've seen this trend since 2003.

  • Complete Multicam in CS6?

I'm I like the diluted Final Cut fanboys that swear that Final Cut X will eventually have the features they need?
I've sent in 10 feature requests since 6.5 about multicam.  I've even got my employees sending in the same requests.
Adobe Premiere would be the PERFECT editor if it wasn't for one thing:  4 camera multicam limitation!  Why?  Why?!  Even the 2-year old Final Cut 7 could do more (64 or 128, can't rememrber).  Even Edius, a stripped down editor can do 16 I think.
Dynamic linking to AE and PS is awesome.  MPE is great!  Adobe is awesome.
But if Adobe wants to be taken seriously (and now's the time with the smart Final Cutters all jumping ship), Adobe desperately needs to add more multicam support!
Is this something that's even on the agenda for CS6?  Or am I just holding on to hope?  PP is ahead of the curve in so many areas, but this one is totally lacking.
Off topic, I feel the same way about the lack of a proxy render in PP, but I have some work arounds, but Mutlicam is a HUGE one!  There's no good viable work around for, say, 10 clips to sync up (which I do all the time).
If you agree, please send your request to Adobe's feature request: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform .  Have your brothers, sisters, aunts, employees, bosses, ANYONE else send in the same request because I don't think Adobe is getting it.  Now's the time to take over the FCP guys and bring them on board, but they can't do it with old school "4-cam" support.

Well, "fan" might be a bit strong. After all, Premiere Pro is just a tool--it's not a band or a team or a cola.
Do I like Premiere Pro? Indeed I do. Do I work with Premiere Pro exclusively or at least extensively? You bet. Do I know the software pretty well? I like to think so. Do I think Premiere Pro is perfect/good enough? Not a chance. Do I have any idea what is or is not slated for the next version of Premiere Pro? Sorry, I don't.
What I do know for sure is that no Adobe employee--and certainly no fan of Premiere Pro--can tell you definitively what is coming in the months or years ahead. You'll get to find out, just like the rest of us, when CSNext is announced or released.
I'm not saying this to be cheeky or obtuse, but it would be bad business for Adobe to prognosticate officially or otherwise what's ahead. I'm pretty sure that the reason we're on this somewhat more rapid release schedule is because the Premiere Pro team is trying to remain at least on top of the curve, if not ahead of it. For example, I wouldn't be surprised if the new Merge Clips feature in CS5.5 for dual-system production wasn't originally slated to be in CS5. However, due to priorities or roadblocks or whatever else, it didn't make it, but it was an important enough feature that a "half release" was scheduled and work began on that to get Merge Clips out sooner than later. Granted, this has nothing to do with enhanced multicam (and I'm not even sure if it's truth or fiction, but it sounds good, no?), but my point is that Adobe and the Premiere Pro team are trying to make more regular updates, albeit smaller ones, with each release. That may or may not bode well for multicam improvements in CSNext; only time will tell.
Ultimately, we all have our pet peeves and gotta-haves when it comes to Premiere Pro or any other tool, for that matter. At the end of the day, some of us--probably most of us--or going to be let down to a certain extent. Adobe is pretty responsive to user input, particularly when a lot of people make a lot of noise. Right now, the NLE game is theirs to win or lose; they're behind by a few points, but they've just been handed a turnover and the field is wide open. It'll be interesting to see what the next play will be, I can assure you. But right now, if Premiere Pro doesn't serve your needs, your two choices are to stick it out and hope for the best, or jump ship and find another solution. Cruel realities...
But back to your original point: it's the official answer. I'm sure one of the Adobe folks will pipe up and tell you the same. Sorry!
EDIT: Dennis beat me to it

  • OBIA Financial Analytics - ETL Incremental Load issue

    Hi guys
I have an issue while doing ETL Incremental load in DEV. Source, Target ORACLE.
issue with these two tasks: SDE_ORA_GL_JOURNALS and SDE_ORA_ImportReferenceExtract
incremental load is holding at SDE_ORA_GL_JOURNALS.....on Database sessions the query is completed and also the session is done but no update in the session log for that session in informatica. It says hust ' SQL Query issued to database' . no progress from there. and the task in both informatica session monitor and DAC says running and keeps running for ever. No errors seen in any of the log files.
Any idea on whats happening? I checked session logs, DAC servr logs, Database alert logs, Exception logs on source and found nothing.
I tried to run these Informatica generated queries in SQL developer and they ran well and I did see the results. More over, weird thing is from past three days and about 10 runs....the statis tics are
both thses tasks run in parallel and most of the times Import references extract is completed first and then GL_Journals is running for ever
In one run, GL_Journals is done but then Import reference extract is running for ever. I dont exactly understand whats happening. I see both the queries running in parallel on source database.
Please give me some idea on this. And this same stuff is running good on QA. I dont know how this is working.....any idea on this is appreciated. Thank you. let me know of ay questions. Thank you in advance.
