More on Organizing Music on iPod Classic

Hi,
My iPod is not organizing music in a predictable manner, and I was wondering if anyone has dealt with this issue. I spent hours organizing the iTunes library so that every CD I've imported lists the music according to the parameters: Name (song name, done automatically by iTunes), (ii) Artist (I enter the name of the album artist in this field, such as "Norah Jones"), (iii) Album by Year (I enter the name or title of the CD [e.g. "The Essential Billy Joel"]), (iv) Genre (I created my own genres and placed all of the music into the corresponding genre of my choosing).
Ok, here's what's happening. So far I've imported about 100 CDs with perhaps 35/45 different artists. Since I put the artist's name in the artist field for every CD, one would think that when I click on "Artists" on the iPod (after syncing, of course) I'd have 35/45 different artists to choose from. However, when I click on "Artists" on the iPod I find many missing artists (actually, the greater percentage are missing). For example, I have just about everything by guitarist David Russell (I have 14 CDs in all by him), yet his name doesn't appear in the list of artists unless I click on "Artists" then "All Albums", in which case I have to scroll through my entire collection of albums in alphabetical order by CD title until I find the CD I'm looking for!
An odd thing also happens when I click on "Genres". Let's say that I click on "Genres", and then "Classical Guitar". This takes me to a screen at the top of which is the choice "All Albums", followed by a list of 6 artist's names. Now, I have many more than 6 artists in the classical guitar section, yet only 6 names appear.
There doesn't seem to by any reason for some artists to appear yet others (the majority) not to appear, as I'm organizing every CD in exactly the same way. When I import a CD, I select all songs, right click, select "Get Info", and when the "Multiple Item Information" screen appears, I enter all the information according to parameters already mentioned.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
~Sean

Usually the biggest culprit of this is if the "Part of a Compilation" box is checked. In iTunes pick a song by David Russell and get info. Check to see if this box is clicked. If it is, that's why it won't show up in the "Artist" menu.

  • Organizing music on iPod Classic

Is there a way to organize music on an iPod classic?  More specifically, I want albums sorted by artist and then year so they will be in the order of when they were released.  I know how to do this in iTunes (just click the column header and choose the option I want), but even when I do that it will change back the next time I open iTunes.
    Any help is appreciated!

It isn't really possible. If you put the year of release into the Sort Album field you can make things work for one artist, but as soon as you have two or more artists then that won't work. Adding both the album artist and then the year of release in the Sort Album might get the albums in the right order in say the iPod's cover flow, but then you'd find the main Albums list a complete jumble in both the iPod and iTunes.

  • How can i enjoy Z+ music on ipod classic 160 GB.

Hello guys, i am using ipod classic 160 GB and i have a query regarding listening of Z+ music on ipod classic. Does anybody know about this, how to do this.

iPod Classic only supports Music (and videos and photos), but not apps. If you want to listen to Hans Zimmer music on the iPod Classic, buy the music if you don't own it already and sync the iPod through iTunes.

  • Itunes wont see the music on ipod classic

itunes wont see the music on ipod classic

If you can see the songs but they are "greyed out" it's because you have the iPod set to transfer songs automatically. That is also why the padlock icon appears at the bottom of iTunes next to the space used/available.
If you want the songs to be bold and selectable/editable, then you need to change to manage the content manually.

The iPod classic shouldn't be used to store the only copy of music or be considered a backup device. Put the music on a regular external drive or DVDs.

  • How do you download music from  Ipod Classic to computer?

How do you download music from ipod classic to computer

If your music collection was purchased from iTunes, you are in a good shape since that music is forever yours under your iTunes account. Therefore, after installing iTunes on your new computer, sign into your account and see all your music under "Purchsed". Then simply download it to be phisically present onto your computer (for free since you've already paid for it).
On the other hand if you happens to not be a sucker to waist money on iTunes and your collection was ripped from the internet (via torrents and such), you need some third party software to copy iPod music, here is a guide about how to transfer music from iPod classic to computer. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

Thank you again for all of your help!! I really appreciate it!
I think I am following -- I was able to upload to my iPhoto and all photos and videos are there that is a plus! I tried to create an Event in my iPhoto and put all of my photos in that event but for some reason, now my iTunes it not recognizing that Event in my iPhoto. It is not allowing me to import just that event at the moment but I may be doing something wrong. At least all of my pics and vids are in iPhoto so that is a plus and I know they are at least saved somewhere. Just for some reason, my iTunes it not locating the event that I created with only those photos.
Thank you for letting me know about my contacts! How do I know if I have the contacts app?
Also, I had no clue that my iCloud could be backed up via cellular data! However, is this a new feature with the most updated iOS?? Unforutnatly I am like 2 iOS updates behind because I don't have enough storage on my phone. I still get the notification that my phone needs to be plugged in and connected to wifi in order to back up to the cloud :-(
How can I sync using USB? Right now when i click on the info tab for my iPhone in my iTunes this is the answer that I get -- I am a little unclear as to what it means.

  • Import music from iPod Classic into iTunes

I have an iPod Classic 120 GB that is still in perfect condition. I got it 5 years ago. I had imported several CD's into iTunes on my family computer and then imported them on to my iPod. I also had purchased some music from the iTunes store, but I had a lot more music that I had imported from CD's. An incident happened where a lot of my music got deleted from my iTunes account. I had over 5000 songs on my iPod from all the CD's, audio books, and purchased music I had imported into iTunes and then on to my iPod. When I plugged my iPod into my computer, iTunes recognized that there was music on my iPod that wasn't in my iTunes library. It asked if I would like to import the music that was on my iPod into my iTunes library. I said yes. Of the 5000+ songs on my iPod, only about 300 were imported back into iTunes, and then my iPod was synced. I lost the rest of my music. After this incident, I took several hours to re-import the CD's back into my iTunes library. Not too long after this, my computer crashed. Everything was wiped from my computer. We started by re-installing the drivers, Google Chrome, and I just re-downloaded iTunes. All the music that was in my iCloud has been backed up and added to my new library. This is only about 31 songs. I'm afraid to plug in my iPod again because it still has all the music on it that took so long to re-import. But now I can't add another CD on to my iPod without the fear of losing everything again. Does anyone know how I can make sure that ALL the music will be re-imported into my iTunes library again when I plug in my iPod? I don't want to go through this ordeal again if I don't have to.

  • Deleting Music from Ipod classic

I just purchased My first ipod classic. I uploaded music to my ipod " with concerable difficulity", and probably the wrong way. And alot of the songs cut off in the middle of the song and leaped to the next one. Can some one tell me why and also how can I delete all my songs and start from scratch?

    Hello walking lady,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
First of all, do these tracks play ok in iTunes or does the issue also appear there as well?
Once way to start from scratch is restore your iPod via iTunes. This will wipe everything currently on the iPod and set it back to its original default settings.

  • Error code 80070022 and 80070057 when trying to backup music from iPod Classic

Hello. I'm attempting to backup all of the music from my 80GB iPod Classic to my Windows Vista computer. My old computer (the one originally with the backed up music) died on me, so iTunes wont backup music from my iPod to the computer. So I am forced to either use a 3rd party transfer software or transfer the music from the iPod's file system. Attempting a backup either of these ways results in errors that prevent the computer from transfering 95% of the music. The 3rd party software offers no information about the error, but copy/pasting from the iPod file system to the PC returns the following errors:
error code 0x80070022 (first error message)
error code 0x80070057 (subsequent error messages for 95% of music files attempting to be copied)
If I try transferring through the iPod's file system on my Macbook Pro, I get error code -36.
I've tried restarting both the PC and iPod, and I've also tried the transfer in safe mode. Both attempts have not solved this problem. Most of the  12,000 songs on the iPod were ripped long ago from CDs I own. I've also painstakingly rated every one of these songs. I'm very worried that one day my iPod will crap out on me and the ratings will be gone forever and I'll have to spend tons of time reripping those CDs again. I've also googled this problem  and have found little help.
Other details - this iPod was originlly set up on a WinXP PC. Addionally, I should note that I have no problems connecting to itunes or playing any of the music files. These errors are only preventing me from copying music files to my PC or Mac.
    Thank you in advance!

  • How do I transfer music from ipod classic to ipod touch?

I have an old 30GB iPod Classic with a lot of music on it. I just inherited my son's iPod Touch. Is there a way to transfer my music files (about 1100 songs) from the old one to the new one. Some of the songs were downloaded from the iTunes Store, others were made from my own CD's.
Also, my son and I each have our own iTunes accounts. Can I safely switch the newer iPod Touch from his account to mine?
    Tim

Since no one is responding to my question, I will post some ideas I have gotten from browsing other peoples' questions.
It seems that the first thing I should do is follow instructions to move all of my son's iTunes Store purchased content from the iPod Touch to his iTunes account on his Macbook Pro. Then he should be able to sync it to his new iPhone 5 or not, depending on whatever he wants to do with it. But at least, it would not be lost.
I have already copied the purchased content from my old iPod Classic to my iTunes account on his Macbook Pro. However, I would still need to obtain some third party software to copy my non-purchased content from the Classic to my account on the Macbook Pro.
Then, the next step might be to change the iTunes account on the Touch from his to mine. Is this a safe operation?
Then, I should be able to sync the Touch to my iTunes account on his Macbook Pro, thus getting all of my content onto the Touch.
Does the above sound like a reasonable course of action? Would any additional steps be advisable? Thank you very much for any advice you could provide.
    Tim

  • Music onto ipod classic?

I recently aded all my music to icloud. I then wanted to add some new music to an ipod classic and it updated the ipod and erased all the music. Now it is only loading 350 songs out of the 7000 in my itunes library. It's about 35gb in itunes and a 60gb ipod. Why can't I load this musoc back onto the ipod?

You can't sync music from an iPod to an iPad.
If the music was purchased from iTunes then you might be able to redownload some/all of it (depending upon what country that you are in and if it's still in the store)via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your iPad. If you can't redownload it, and for music from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs), you will need to sync it to your iPad from your computer's iTunes library
