More Output Preview prefs/fixes

As long as the Output Preview box is open the user's cursor displays as crosshairs, regardless of which tool is being used. This is annoying because the user doesn't immediately recognize which tool she is using unless she closes the output preview box. My users don't want to have to keep opening and closing the Output Preview box.
My suggestions: Make a button in the toolbars to "activate" Output Preview window. This way the window could stay open all the time, but when it is not "active" users should still see the cursor for the currently selected tool. (Maybe Output Preview could still display percentages even when it is "inactive" but only change the cursor to the crosshairs when it is active.)

Slight clarification: There is a toolbar button for opening and closing the Output Preview window. What my users want is for this button to simply activate or deactivate that window, not open and close it. (Clicking on the window should also make it active, then clicking on another tool should make it inactive again.)

  • Output Preview should be more informative

I love the Output Preview feature in Acrobat. I wish Illustrator had the same thing. However, I feel that there should be some improvement to it. For instance, for printers, it would be very handy to also include line screen, angle, and possibly dot type in the Output Preview pane.

I wouldn't hold your breath for those.....that information is not in the PDF so it can't really do it. Those attributes come from the RIP. Trapping too, depending on workflow.
We have had discussions about the way output preview interprets some things, like greyscales, and you cant really call it a 'print' previewer, but it is a good 'output' previewer which is why it is called that, I suppose.

  • Output Preview Not Saving to Reader

I'm assembling PDF files of a bulletin we publish into archives by year for web viewing using Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.7 (Mac). The files were originally created in PageMaker and the printer sent us PDF files for this project.
Everything is working fine except 3 of the files from one year (August, September, October) seemed to be missing the graphics. I found that by going to Output Preview and checking Simulate Overprinting they showed up.
I then saved it to another file, but when I opened it with Adobe Reader X 10.1.7 (PC) on another computer, the graphics were again missing for those 3 issues, though they showed up fine for the other issues in the PDF.
Under Preferences in Acrobat X I have Use Overprint Preview set to Always.
    How to fix this?

I really don't know much about overprint, but you haven't gotten any other replies. So let me try to give some thoughts.
I am wondering if this an issue of graphics and such in layers that might be resolved by doing a flattening of the PDF. That would hopefully put everything on one layer and avoid the overprint (OK, that is a guess). Maybe this at least gives you something to consider and may spark others to chime in who actually know more about the issue.

  • Acrobat 9 + Output Preview

In Acrobat 9 I noticed something confusing. I had a pdf file which had black text on a background. I opened this up in Acrobat 9 and went to check to see if the black text was set to overprint. Going to Output Preview I turned off the Process Black separation and it showed me that the black appeared to be overprinting. I then turned off the Simulate Overprint check box and the background showed the text to be knocking out. Under the Color Warnings preview I used it to show me all the overprinting elements and it verified that the Black Text was overprinting. I assumed that Simulate Overprinting would show me what the picture would look like if the black text was not set to overprint. Instead it's deceiving me making me think that the black text is knocking out when I turn this off.
In Acrobat 8 the previews appeared correctly or what I assumed in my mind as correct. Is this feature working correctly in Acrobat 9 and if it is can you explain the thought process behind what is happening?

In Acrobat 9, you might have noticed that overprint preview has been removed from the menu items under Advanced > Print Production. The "Simulate Overprinting" checkbox was added to output preview so that we can still temporarily "turn on/off" the simulation of overprinting appearance (rather than have to change preferences), largely for troubleshooting or further examination of a document. Turning this off is like turning off overprint preview (which simulates overprinting appearance). It's not actually turning off the overprint flag itself, so color warning is still highlighting the black text.
Output Preview always enables overprint preview regardless of what your preferences are (in earlier versions, this includes your menu selection). You were unable to turn off overprint preview whenever output preview was open. In 9, the checkbox allows you to turn off that simulation.
Overprint Preview can still be controlled in display preferences.
I hope this helped. If not, please give more info about what you are expecting to see.

  • Acrobat Pro 11 - Output Preview not working

This issue came up again on my Macpro. Although it's ok on my MBP. When try to analyze a PDF in "Output Preview" a few things aren't working for me. The "Total Area Coverage" warning will not display on screen. Also when I hover the cursur over the PDF I am no longer see percentages under the ink color Preview > Separations. Does anyone know of a quick fix so I don't have to keep going back to an oldere version of Acrobat?
    Thanks for your help.

I think I'd uninstall Acrobat (there should be an Uninstaller in your Acrobat folder inside the Applications folder). Then reinstall the application.

  • Acrobat X Pro Output Preview

I just upgraded to Acrobat X Pro and I'm running it on Max OS X 10.5.8. When I click on the check boxes of the color separations in the "output preview" it doesn't do anything. Instead I have to hold down the mouse button for a extened period of time, let go and then it will work. I do prepress work and I use the color separations in "output preview" to make sure blacks are truly going to be black. I go through a number of pages in a day and having to hold down the mouse button, instead of just clicking the checkbox can be time consuming. I have never had this issue with Acrobat 9 or any previous versions. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
I found a thread similar to my issue, but the suggestion was to increase the double click speed in the preferences, this did not help.

I also have to make sure gray images are real gray not cmyk gray. Is there a preflight for that?

In the PReflight tool there is a checkup that can automaticaly control black texts, this is less time consuming than doing it manually…;-)

  • Output Preview Changes Colors

In our softproofing setup, we have our press profile set up as the default CMYK profile in Acrobat 9. However, when we open the Output Preview window with the same profile set under Simulation Profile, the appearance of the color changes (some colors more so than others). I'm probably missing something simple, but I would think that the appearance should stay the same unless you change the Simulation Profile to a different profile.
I look forward to reading about what a doofus I am...

Please explain in more detail. A screen shot might help. Also version of Acrobat.

  • Acrobat X Pro crashes when I open Output Preview

I'm trialling Acrobat X Pro on Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit (why is the trial not available for Mac?) and every time I open Output Preview in a 6 colour file, with a Hexachrome Output Intent, the whole application crashes? This used to happen in v9 but I thought it had been fixed in X.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Have you updated to the latest point update for Acrobat - 10.1.3?

  • Output Preview Problems

    Hi All,
I have recently been having problems with the Output Preview in Acrobat 11 and it's driving me crazy.
The output preview is not reliably showing the correct CMYK Colour values - see below
I have created a sign in Illustrator CC 2014 and printed to PDF using the 'Press Quality' settings. I have ensured that all Adobe software is using the same profile (North American General Purpose 2) by setting it Bridge.
I import the PDF into Photoshop and get a yellow value of 100%
I then open Acrobat and check the same area and get a yellow value of 97%
In Acrobat I open Preferences > Colour Management and change the colour profile from North American General Purpose 2 to something else and then back to North American General Purpose 2. I check the yellow again and get 100%
Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how did you fix it? Many thanks in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Christian.

I think you are measuring the image preview from Photoshop when you open your rastered Photoshop file in Acrobat. You should probably save your original Illustrator file as a PDF (not print to PDF). When you open the PDF in Photoshop, you are converting your vector file to an Image, which I think also creates a low-res preview of the actual image (which has various uses). If you check your Photoshop preferences, you might be able to turn the preview creation off, but I really wouldn't worry about it. As a test, save your original Illustrator file as a .tiff and see how that works. Unless you are adding something in Photoshop that can't be added in Illustrator or InDesign, it's usually better to keep everything vector, as much as possible.

  • Output Preview crash when open, while opening PDF

    I've got a problem with Acrobat 10.1.12 on a Mid 2012 MacPro Quad-Core running OSX 10.9.5 (same on Late 2013 MacPro Six-Core)
When I open a PDF with Output Preview open and point an click on an object to measure it, Acrobat crashes. Same with more than 3 PDF open on the 2013 MacPro.
The only way to work around is to reopen Output Preview before clicking into the document, which isn't a proper solution with up to 150 PDF to check every day.
    Things i've tried so far:
OSX and Acrobat (installed Plugin is PitStop Pro 11) clean install
clear the whole Suitcase to avoid font problems
    I'm thankful for any suggestion.

  • Acrobat DC and XI different Output preview; same setting on the same machine

    Hello,
I've got an question regarding Output preview
My sample PDF does have different output preview values on Acrobat DC (100% Black) and Acrobat XI (CMYK values)
Both use the same setting (Euroscale Coated v2), doc has no PDF/X output intent
Still..... it's strange that on one Mac the PDF does look different....
    What's going wrong?
    Kind regards

Numerous fixes went into color display on MacOS for Acrobat DC as well as in Output Preview in general. That having been said, I don't recall any changes that would have resulted in the phenomena you are seeing.
I assume you were clicking on the “black” circle to get you sample color values? And what do you believe should be the correct values? CMYK=(0,0,0,1) or CMYK=(0.8,0.64,0.67,0.75)?
If you can post a copy of this file, we can examine it to see what is going on.

  • Output preview

Is there anyway to remove some of the simulation profiles in output preview.
All I really need is "U.S. web coated (swop). After a straight export from InDesign or
Quark my PDF is at U.S. web coated (swop). But when i ran the PDF through our
Esko or Prinergy the PDF. Then view the PDF the output preview is set at "output
intent CGATS TR001" and to change it back to "u.s. web coated". I know it doesn't
make a difference in the end. But i like the preview with the other setting.
Anyways the list seems to be getting longer after every updat.

Please explain in more detail. A screen shot might help. Also version of Acrobat.
