More preferences for magic mouse needed.

The magic mouse is really a nice piece of hardware, but the software is lacking.  Here are a couple of problems I have and suggestions that would make my life a lot easier.
There scrolling feature is nearly useless in text editors.  It is always causing undesired scrolls of the text windows and various list boxes.  I end up turning off the scroll feature when using a text editor. I would like to see application specific preferences for the mouse scroll.  Allow user to enable mouse scroll on an application by application basis and set various scroll options on an application basis allowing me to disable scrolling for desired applications.  This would eliminate the need to open system preferences every time I switch apps.
For text editing applications, I tend to disable scrolling, but I would like to retain the scroll feature, but restrict it to a center portion of the mouse so it must be activated using the middle finger as one would do with a wheel mouse.  To accomplish this, the mouse surface could be treated as three separate zones, left, center and right.  New mouse preferences would allow user to specify if the mouse surface was treated as a single zone, or as multiple zones.  User should be able to configure the mouse for individual applications to enable the multi-zone feature.

Think back.   Was your mouse turned off at the point when you downloaded Mavericks.

  • How to restore scrolling and preference options for magic mouse?

My Apple Magic Mouse has lost the ability to scroll the way it used to. When I open the mouse pane in System Preferences, the magic mouse options and video examples no longer display; just scrolling and tracking speed. I changed batteries, then also switched mice with a colleague, but still no horizontal or inertia scrolling, etc. I have tried restoring the PRAM several times, trashed the preference logs, etc, even reinstalled the system software.
I'm using a MacBook Pro withSnow Leopard. I had previously downloaded USB Overdrive, and read somewhere that it could be the cause. I got rid of USB Overdrive, but my mouse still doesn't behave the way it used to. Any suggestions?

I got rid of USB Overdrive
And all its preference files?  Repaired permissions?
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.
Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963 and restart your computer.

  • Which brand is THE best in rechargeable batteries for Magic Mouse AND last long ?

Which brand is THE best in rechargeable batteries for Magic Mouse AND last long ?

I've been using the Apple rechargables in my keyboards/mice/trackpads for over a year now.  They last 3-4 weeks in my usage pattern but I have spares ready to go when they get weak.

  • Magic Charger  Mobee for Magic Mouse doesn't work with Mac OS X lion Mountain

The Magic Charger  Mobee for Magic Mouse  Apple
with Mac OS X lion Mountain
makes connections overflows and stops the system work.
What could I do, other that disconnect Magic Charger?

When you say you cannot add the printer, with the Add Printer pane open, is the 6250 visible in the Default Add Printer view? If no then it could be the USB cable at fault and I suggest you try another cable.
If the printer is visible but the Mac fails to locate a driver when you select it then you may have to trash the contents of the BJPrinters folder (HD > Library > Printers > Canon) and then run the iX6250 driver installer again.

  • NEED Middle button for Magic Mouse in Bootcamp!

    Hey guys!
I recently purchased a Magic Mouse, and my oh my is it AWESOME! Problem is that it hadn't occured to me there was no middle button and I DESPERATELY need a middle button to use Solidworks under Bootcamp. Anyone know of any drivers/programs/hacks that'll enable middle button for me? Else I've effectively wasted $70, and being a student, that hurts.
PLEASE let me know ASAP! I'd hate to have to get one of those generic mouses.
    Thanks!

I am pretty sure that this is not possible, try finding a version of the software you use that is compatible with Mac OS X?

  • Preference panes for Magic mouse and Trackpad not upgraded

Hi I upgraded my i5 iMAC27'' to Lion and the bluetooth track pad and magic mouse do not support any gestures.  I have looked at all the similar threads but none seem similar to mine as I do seem to have the correct preference panes for these devices.  It seems to just have really old panes from snow leopard.
Anybody know how I can fix this ?

Just tried a copy of a working reference pane from macbook air (2011) and it looks juts the same.  The problem is deeper than the pane file itself.

    A few hours later…
    I just found Mouse Wizard:
    http://www.samuco.net/web/node/23
I will say that when I downloaded the demo the center button didn't work, but a very quick & courteous reply from their tech support suggested:
In terminal, can you try entering this command: "rm ~/Library/Preferences/.MagicalWizard.plist". Then, relaunch MouseWizard.
I did this & now I have center button nirvana! (Mouse Wizard also supports a version of the squeeze button (they call it fourth button) and squeeze/bloat gestures.)
So far so good--it's made me much happier with my magic mouse.

  • Best mouse  pad for magic mouse ?

I used a thick sponge-ish non slip mouse pad with a cloth-like covering for my MS mouse on my pc. Now with the imac and magic mouse, this pad seems not quite right. The tracking is a little strange acting. Would a more plastic coated mouse pad surface be better with the magic mouse? Or suggestions?

i use wowpad for all the mice i use, i works great with all of them. there are no issues with mouse jumping and save battery life too.

  • Magic Mouse needs multiple clicks to respond

My Magic Mouse has been having issues today: about 20% of the time, the computer doesn't respond when I click, but if I click again right after that, it works. Changed the batteries, but that didn't help. Anyone else notice this, or have any ideas on how to fix it?

    Hi captfred:
I wasn't - honest!!!!   I have not posted a new thread in awhile.  You used to be able to mark a thread "solved" without awarding points -  I have more than I need!

  • No downloadable windows drivers for Magic Mouse?  Why not?

My question is simple: Why doesn't Apple provide an easily downloadable Windows driver installer for the Magic Mouse?
Apple has nothing to loose - the user would still have to purchase their Magic Mouse, and they might even gain some sales of the device from Windows users who prefer it.  Further, they already have a driver installer packaged and ready to go in the Boot Camp driver Bins (Binary.MultiTouchMouse_Bin) but to get it you have to download the ENTIRE Boot Camp archive, unzip it, extract the _Bin file in question, and rename it adding .exe to the end so Windows can run it.
Other hardware manufacturers (including Microsoft) provide easily downloadable drivers for their products on multiple platforms, it would be nice to see the same courtesy extended by Apple.

This is not a problem with the headset but a bluetooth issue in windows, the default microsft bluetooth driver does not support all profiles, you need to make sure you install the proper drivers for your bluetooth chip.
When the proper bluetooth drivers are installed you will be able to pair it properly and then go into settings and select the headset profile.
I also had to change the default speakers to the headset under the windows sound settings.
If you have a laptop the bluetooth drivers is probably on the manufacturers website, if you purchased a bluetooth usb dongle then you probably received a cd with it.

  • Been losing connection for magic mouse and wireless keyboard

When I have my MBP running Mavericks in clamshell mode, I lose connections to both magic mouse and apple wireless keyboard in clamshell mode. I've tried all the PRAM SCM, aluminum foil and paper tricks. What I then did was test what happens when I leave the MBP open rather than in clamshell mode and it appears to avoid losing connection, at least that is what I've concluded with Mavericks for now..... anyone else able to replicate this? Having to leave the MBP open is not ideal.

Barry, thanks, still not working.  I've tried every thing I can think of or have read, what I'm concluding is that there is either a problem with Mavericks or something has changed on how bluetooth works in Mavericks. Did not have this problem for the last 4 years. I can reproduce the problem when I close the laptop. I had the Bluetooth and wireless card checked out and replaced about 3 weeks ago. Problem has continued.

  • Best Surface for Magic Mouse?

I am on a wooden desk and used a Magic Mouse just recently.. Its been ok, but jumpy and not that precise..
I have tried a mouse mat which was a little better, but then a small portable table which wasn't ideal but managed to get close enough to the desk and its very accurate!
I realise before ditching the Magic Mouse and its jumpyness etc that its not the mouse but the surface!
Can anyone recommend the most accurate surface for MM? is it a black/white mouse mat? wood?
I had no idea this would make so much difference!!

    Hello:
I have seen nothing that indicates a "best" pattern.  I use an old "Alaskan Moose Pad" mouse pad complete with a moose picture and it works very well.

  • Magic mouse needs restart to connect

iMac with 10.7.5.   Magic mouse loses bluetooth connection after sleep. All indicators show that the mouse is still connected. Nothing I do will make it respond (connect)  until I do a restart of the computer, then it's good till the next sleep.  Good batteries, good contacts for batteries.
This started suddenly.  The mouse has been good for over a year.

It appears iTunes 8.0.1.11 uses the pc's time when it sync's... I would look at the time settings on the computer.
Is the wi-fi that your connecting to your's ? or one that you always use. If so I would say something is wrong with the ipod.
I hide my wi-fi's SSid and use wap, and every time I turn on my ipod it connects to my wireless.

  • What is the default tracking speed for magic mouse like what line is it on?

ive been wanting to change back to the default please help

I would agree that it shouldn't really matter, but if for some reason it does, I just got a new computer, keyboard and magic mouse and this is where it's set by default:

  • Using magicprefs for magic mouse - after selecting 2 finger swipe in mouse prefs, creates an error message in magicprefs..

This error message  requires you to open keyboard shortcuts and put in a command for exposé.
Looks like an incompatability with this third party software for MagicMouse.  Disabling MagicPrefs makes the error go away and 2 finger swipe works normally allowing movement in Safari to next page or back to previous page.

You are the 3rd person to suggest this, so I decided to give it a try. It does reasonably well, but I still wish Apple would allow more customization directly in their preferences (e.g., how SENSITIVE the mouse is, and whether one needs 1 or 2 fingers to scroll, etc.). For now, I had to disable ALL of Apples "helpful" gestures and replace them with the best approximation to what I really want from BetterTouchTool. (For some reason, BTT does NOT seem to offer ANY scrolling gestures, just "page up" and "page down" which only works when a window is selected, and only at most on one pane of that window).
