More problems with security update 2007-008 for 10.3.9 not solved by reboot

I did this update and now even though airport says it's connected to my network safari will not connect to the internet. Also, internet connect and the keychain application both go to "application not responding". Any help is appreciated. Can I uninstall it?

Okay, so it was keychain that was the problem... it needed access but it took like 5-6 restarts to get the program to ask for permission, weird...
Also, sorry for topping other post as it does now seem that it was the same problem after all.

10.3.9 Security Update 2007-008 Wireless Sleep issue

had a good search around the forum and this webpage but still having a new problem with my iBook G3 OS 10.3.9 (Yes I know it is old, its grand for general webpage browsing at home ) and my Netopia (Eircom) WPA Wireless modem.

Same old story, iBook has been working fine on Wireless since 2003 (inc previous version of 10.3) but the moment I finally added Security Update 2007-008 (10.3.9?) the automatic connecting to my home Wireless network doesn't work anymore
Every time I startup (or iBook goes to sleep)I have to go into the Airport icon and click on the network name. This has never happened before.
On Googleing this problem it seems it was never resolved by Apple?
If I could I would go back a Security Level to what I had before but not sure if this is an option? Auto-connect worked every time previously, much faster than my brand new Dell Laptop for work
Tiger 10.4 isnt really an option either due to it being a lowly G3 600mhz iBook.
Removed Airport2.kext files
Removed and re-established Network connection/Password
Removed plist files
and most of the other things on that webpage to no avail. If anyone has any ideas that would be great. Wireless Router is fine as I have a Work PC that connects automatically to it without any problem.

On my 15" PB, with Panther, and all the updates that came from Apple, I have tried a few ways to create what you describe; letting it go to sleep on it's own, putting it to sleep under the Apple Menu, using my screen 'corner' and Moused it to sleep... all come back alive with wireless already on with the proper network.
My set-up Location is tagged to 'Automatic'; in System Preferences > Network with 'Automatic' as the Location, and 'Network Port Configuration' as the Show... Airport is the TOP item on the lower window, and it is 'checked'.
If Airport is not on the top, the computer looks first for a connection in say the 'ethernet' (if that is the top item) until it times out and then it looks in the next one down. You could test this by leaving it alone and see how long it takes to find it... assuming you do have it 'checked' in the Port selections. To move those selections around, just click-and-drag to the location you want the order in.
If you have some thing different here, let us know. We will go from there.

Security Update 2007-008 (10.3.9 Client) went badly!

Auto updated the Security Update 2007-008 (10.3.9 Client) now my Power PC G4 won't start anymore. It's stuck on "Waiting for Apple File Service" at the startup window.
I really don't want to reinstall the whole OS right now.

You survived this beautiful little patch? Security Update 2007-008 destroyed my iBook. I can't even reset the PRAM - the backlight won't even go on... I don't hear the fan or hard drive... It does have a known backlight issue, but as a former technician I know this isn't the problem.
Has anyone had similar experience?

Airport Problems after Security Update 2007-004

Ever since I've installed Security Update 2007-004 my Airport connection has been dropping about every 15 to 30 minutes. Sometimes Airport will stay connected but will stop working until I renew my DHCP lease (I get the same IP though). When it drops I click on the Airport icon to reconnect but my network doesn't always show up. Sometimes I have to turn Airport off and back on again to make it show up, and a few times I've had to reset my computer to make it show up.
I have a MacBook Pro with an 802.11n card. I'm using two different routers; one at work, and one at home. The work router is a Linksys N router while the one at home is a Linksys G router.
I've tried all the tricks. Repairing Permissions, deleting the extension caches, installing the standalone updater, but nothing is working.

Deleting AppleAirPort2.kext solved the problem for some...

Installing the Security update 1.0.1 from 5/01/2007 helped others. Reapplying the Combo Update again helped a couple of people.

Problems with Security Update 2006-002

Hi there,
I have problems with latest security update. I do not know what went wrong, but after installing "Security Update 2006-002 (PowerPC)" (1.0) on 2006-03-14 15:52:40 +0100: with Software Update from Tiger, my desktop (and probably not only desktop) is damaged.
The most visible thing is that all .html and .htm documents on my desktop does not have Safari icon anymore, they have some 'blank' icon and doubleclick on them DOES NOT start-up Safari, why?

note blank "apple - start.webarchive" also the Safari itself have somehow damaged icon, to same blank thing with triangle, possibly some 'generic app' or 'default.app' icon. It sits in the dock on 5th from left...(dont worry about real safari icon, that's newly added by me)
Also, on, second screenshot, http://www.jirkacech.com/files/Tiger-problemy-2.png you see that safari itself have some strange icon.
I am getting crazy, since I do not know what else is broken by last update.
I have tryed to repair permissions at least 3x, and also run update_prebindings and reboot, delete all system and user caches, and reboot.
Whole issue is system-wide, not only for one user.
iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.5) 1.33 GHz, 512 MB, 12-inch

The first thing you can try, if this is limited only to Safari icons, is to select on such icon, then press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Open With section select Safari from the dropdown menu as the default app. Then click on the Change All button.
If this doesn't resolve the problem or if the problem extends to other appicons as well, then you may have some disk corruption resulting from not repairing the hard drive and permissions before doing the update. I suggest you do that:
Boot from your Tiger DVD. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.1.1 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

Backlight problem with software updat 1.1 for neno

the new 1.1 software update of 'iPod Updater 2006-01-10' for neno stuffs up the backlight. if i leave the light in always off or always on and try to use (press and hold) menu button to manually switch on and off the back light DOES NOT WORK any more....

heres wats new with 1.1-
1. holding menu will take you to the main menu instead of activating or deactivating the backlight
2. lyrics and album art staying on screen and not disappearing after 10 seconds
3. Apple Radio Remote support
4. Line-out problem, occasionally when going from headphones to line-out, there would be no sound.
5. The 'Alarm' feature has been overhauled, easier to set the time, and a little bell icon is displayed next to the 'Alarm' menu item when it is set.
6. 'Screen-lock' has also been changed, slightly different interface, the numbers are in sunken boxes as opposed to the red glow. And a new warning is given telling you to hook your Nano up to your comp if you forget your code.
7. There was a problem with turning off, if you scrolled back or forward through a playlist/album, back to the main menu, sometimes it would not turn off.
8. The song title is in bold above the lyrics when you go to the lyrics screen
9. itunes opens almost instantly (within a second or 2) with the ipod showing. Before, this used to take 5-10 seconds, maybe more.
10. Reduced lag, before, when scrolling and clicking quickly through menus and songs, had some 'slow down', this is gone now.
11. Before the update I noticed a lag when I would skip songs, the next song would come on but the tags would have a slight lag on them and that has been fixed as well.
12. More accurate battery meter. Doesn't go down too quickly as it used too. One person said that it actually increases battery life after a testing.
13. When using the Universal dock with remote the backlight will come on after you change the volume, before the backlight remained off.

System problems after Security Update 2007-007 install

Hello all,
I am having problems with my computer after installing the 2007-007 security update. Specifically, the keyboard and mouse become non-functional at random intervals. The system has not frozen up, though, as items on the screen continue to update. Each time this has happened, I have had to ssh into the machine from another one and reboot. I am on a dual G4 Powermac, 867 MHz with 2 GB of RAM running OS X 10.4.10. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing this?

Hard to say. Have a bootable backup of your installation before the update? Did you repair permissions and repair the disk before installing? How soon after rebooting does the problem come back? Have you checked the console and system logs?

Any Problems With Security Update 2006-002

Hi a few weeks ago I updated my PowerBook G4 running Mac OS 10.3.9 to Apple Security Update 2006-001 and instantly my Dock Meny dissappeared after installation and Safari broke. My Dock Menu returned after installation but Safari remained broken.
In the end I simply reinstalled Mac OS X Panther from scratch, recreated my user account and copied my data (I had it saved) back to my Mac.
I don't want to run the risk of something like this happening again. I do not have Apple Security Update 2006-001 installed at this time but I do have Apple Security Updates from 2005 installed and 10.3.9 on my system.
If I install Apple Security Update 2006-002 on my Mac (will be updating from 2005 security updates) - not updating 2006-001 to 2006-002 but installing first 2006 Security Update for the first time could I run into any problems?
Want to hear from other users who have installed this update - have updated from 2006-001 and preferrably anyone who is installing this update directly (not over 2006-001) before updating myself.

Ive got some serious problems with 2006-001 (and they wernt cured by installing 2006-002).
Photoshop and flash mx stopped working and I am unable to reinstall either!
Ive deleted all prefs, caches, everything associated with these apps.
Ive tried installing different versions of both apps - but to no avail.
Ive repaired disk permissions (even in single user mode) - and while that did straighten out a few incorrect permissions and uid's it did'nt fix my problems.
Totally at the end of my tether now, and getting impatient with Apple - this is my livelyhood and I cant afford to have downtime!
The "broken webkit" fiasco at the back end of last year was bad enough, but this just takes the p*!
Not happy - but hopeful that someone has a fix (preferably one that doesn't involve archive and restore)....

Problem with Security Update 2006-002

I have downloaded and installed the latest security update (2006-002) on my iBook running 10.3.9. As a result apparently all my Keychain related functionality is gone: Keychain Access blocks forever trying to display the password of an entry, and, more annoying, all possibility of connecting to my WiFi network (WEP key) is also gone.
I recreated a default Keychain, and tried to log on to the wifi network: the password dialog blocks forever here too.
I tried to track down what are the components changed by 2006-002, and the list is really long (I'm lost in there). The only indice I have about the problem is my Library/<myusername>/console.log where I have entries of the type:
Keychain Agent [318] NSKeychain is now obsolete!
Keychain Agent [318] NSKeychainItem is now obsolete!
Keychain Agent [318] NSKeychainSearch is now obsolete!
I suspect some libraries have been changed by the update but my keychain software hasn't.
Does anybody knows of a workaround? I'll backup and reformat/reinstall 10.3 tomorrow (after buying a pack of CDRs) but I'm rather annoyed to have to spend one or two days downloading and reinstalling all the software I need.

That wasn't a Security Update problem but an incompatibility between third party plugins and Quicktime update.
Check for incompatible third party applications.

HT1222 Has Apple acknowledged the problems with Security Update 2012-001?

I've read a multitude of user forum comments about this update breaking user software, but have not found a single comment by an Apple representative.

Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.

If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.

If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
- You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
- Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
- Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
- Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.

Problems with Security Update 2009-005

I attempted to install this security update on my iBook G4 but got an error message towards the end of the process stating that it had not fully installed. Since then my dock has disappeared so I can only access applications through Go in Finder, the computer wont shut down or restart, Safari opens with an error message -600, it does not recognise my camera so I cant download photos and About this Mac doesnt work. How can I fix this? Can anyone help? Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions (under less than auspicious circumstances, alas). You should also browse the last few day's topics in this forum for similar issues. As you will see from my post, there's a range of possible cures from simply booting in Safe Mode and rebooting normally, to having to re-install your operating system.

Any problems with security update?

I don't see any posts about the security updates now available through Software Update. I'm in the middle of a critical project, and was wondering if anybody had any warnings or tips based on their experience.
I know the usual stuff--permissions, backup, etc.

I would recommend against it right now, unless it addresses something specifically causing you a problem. I haven't seen anything reported and I haven't had anything act up myself. But a good rule of thumb is never do any upgrades in the middle of a critical project or just before a big deadline. It just doesn't pay to tempt Murphy.

Problems with Security Update and Leopard Re-Installation

I downloaded the new software update onto my Powerbook. When I restarted my computer, it got stuck at the loading screen. I did an Archive and Install and reverted back to Panther. Now I am trying to re-install Leopard, but the download will not start (it just says "calculating" but nothing happens). I think the security update messed up my system and I want to know what I should do.

What "download" are you referring to? A Leopard update? Which one.

Problems with new update of Numbers for Maverick

When opening any of my documents creted on a alder version of Numbers, I lose the format that I had on the page. The table or spreadsheet stays intact, but no the document perse. Where is the "Show Print View" feature on the new update of Numbers. I am frustrated and disappointed with the new changes, since I had to recreate all the spreadsheets that I had for my personal use and work.
