More QT AVI stuff

Hi, I realize this is the most boring topic in the world, but i just got my new imac, upgraded to QT 7 Pro and now I can't play all the old AVI movies i USED to be able to play on my old mac. I've been at this for an hour or so and downloaded so many codecs (DivX Doctor, and all that stuff) my head is spinning. It seems i'm doing everything right, but still the white screen. any helpo here? I've searched the forum and tried everything recommended, but still no luck. has anybody else experienced this problem? i.e., not being able to play movies in QT7 that you could play in QT6? All help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Tom, I had a similar problem. My Intel Mac couldn't play .avi files I had no problem playing on my PC. I tried to install the Divx codec, and that didn't work. Then I found that divx has a special universal version of the codec practically hidden in their site. Here's a url:

  • More Digital Signatures Stuff

So were trying to implement a PDF document that has a bunch of fields in it, and then after a someone signs it, it then get sent to an Informix DB as a BLOB.
It then needs to be approved by a supervisor, so then the supervisor sees that it needs to be approved. The DB sends him the PDF document, he can then open it, and sign it and approve it.
After approval it gets sent back to database for storage and its processed. . .
    1. Can you use the Serial ID of the digital signature that is created using PKCS12 within adobe as a unique way of validating the signature of the person if of that person.
So that being said, we'd create digital id's for the user and then put that info into a field in the database and validte that matches when an ID is on the signature (this would be for validating the person is who they really are)
    2. I was thinking that it would be best to have the digital certs of the users to be on a global CA server??? bad idea? insight?
    3. I don't think that it is a good idea to use the digital id's you can individualy generate in adobe, because a user can easily make duplicates.. . so that is why i would think have a global CA would be best. ..

  • More IP Camera stuff

    Right Lads
Here is the basic problem. I am in my mid 80’s and no longer grasp things so well. Next problem you all talk in abbreviations and jargon.
Technical problem: First I could not view my IP cameras due to something I did not understand (AtiveX). Finally this was solve by IE11 (now I am at it) adding a tool ‘Compatibility View Setting, it works like a charm if anyone is having similar problems. It got me my view. Also and I don’t know how but my cameras were added to my LAN (Local Area Network). GREAT! But now comes the big problem. When I remove and restore the camera power it sends an email with a URL (Uniform Resource Locator), don’t know what this is but it used to link me to the cameras on the web when I was with Virgin. Now all I get is ‘This page can’t be displayed’. When I try to investigate further I get lost in a maze of more abbreviations (DNS, DHCP) and jargon that I just cannot take in. Is there a simpler explaination?

From one old geezer to another !!!
Sounds as if your camera(s) are getting a new number and that number isn't tied to your camera name.
The DNS bit converts , for example, 192.168.1.75 to camera1 so if you enter camera1 it goes to 192.168.1.75
Taking the power away from the camera must be removing the 192.168.1.75 address and replacing it with another, eg: 192.168.1.79 so when you enter camera1 you get an error as it's no longer at 192.168.1.75 in much the same way if MR.Jones moved from 1 High Street to 24 Elm Street a letter to MR.Jones at 1 High Street wouldn't get to him.
When all you cameras are working, log into your Home Hub and set the option to always use the same IP address and that should sort your problem.
    Cheers..

Why after few in app purchases I get a message that "your purchase could not be completed" when I try to do more in app purchases?!?! It's annoying!!

Sometimes rapid purchases look suspicious if you have a credit card attached to your account.  Store credit takes a minute to catch up depending if the balance is low on the account.  May want to check balance or with credit card company.

  • 10.4: No more playing AVI?

Up until 10.3 I could trick iTunes in to playing my avi format movies by modifying the "Type" field to MooV using FileBuddy. Doesn't work in 10.4 anymore. Any workarounds?

Font smoothing is back in the Java Preferences application, after applying 10.5 Update 4.
Select General Tab --> Applet Plugin version --> Options.
There's a checkbox to enable font smoothing for that plugin version.

  • More App Store Stuff

Thought id jot down some small things again i think would improve the app store general use, not sure if other would agree, would be nice if they did.
Owned apps: Any chance they can be sorted at the top of the list grouped together instead of having to scroll through the masses of apps or searching for it. (handy if your wanting to quickly write a review and would just look tidy)
Downloading apps: Again group them at the top above even owned apps in the list.
Reviewer List: Make reviewers names clickable to see all the reviews they have made for other apps.  (useful if you notice certain people have a compatible opinion of apps to yourself, and you wish to see what else they gave good/bad reviews for).
    Sort Order: A-Z Ascend/Descend, $/£ Cheap/Expensive (if in PAID list), Most/Least Downloads

  • Creating MJPEG AVI

    Hello,
I want to create a MJPEG AVI from single JPEG pictures. Ok, I have done all the AVI stuff but for using the images I must use a special Hufmann table. How can I set this table via                                    //

    param.setDCHuffmanTable();

I downloaded the trial and found the clips would not even load. Then I discovered that if I changed the clip extension from .mpg to .avi they loaded fine. I have been able to edit and apply transitions and effects with no problems. Accordingly, I purchased PrE 10.
Both of Adobe's NLE (Non Linear Editor) programs look for common CODEC's, in common "wrappers," i.e. the file format, like MOV, MP4, AVI, MPEG, WMV, etc.. When one wraps a common CODEC in a wrapper, where the program expects something else, it can get very confused.
This has been happening with some regularity, where some camera mfgrs. are choosing to wrap H.264 (common CODEC) in the AVI wrapper (un-common combo). To date, PrPro has addressed this CODEC/wrapper issue w/ a recent update. I anticipate that we might see similar with PrE 11, but do not kow that it will happen.
When camera mfgrs. "stray off the ranch," it takes companies, like Adobe, some time to catch up. In the case of PrPro, there are historically updates during its 18 mos. +/- life cycle. As PrE is on a 12 mo. life span cycle, not so often, though there HAVE been updates, like with PrE 3.0, when Vista was released just after PrE 3.0 was, and caused many issues. Same with some issues with PrE 8. When that does happen, there are often little "goodies" added in, that might have been sitting on the shelf, waiting for the next big upgrade - though not always.
As per another thread, we are seeing more and more still cameras, that shoot Video as 640 x 480 w/ PAR = 1.0 (square pixels), which is uncommon, by the general Video standards. However, as more mfgrs. do such things, Adobe will need to adapt, and at some point, adopt.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Why can't I sync more than one computer?  This is a serious design flaw.

I have a macbook and so does my wife. So, who gets to sync and who ends up in the streaming ghetto? This is a pretty crappy design choice. We should both be able to sync to a combined library on the appletv so that we don't have to fight over who gets a less convenient experience on the appletv.
You can call it the "marriage saver".

You just need to get two Apple TV's and perhaps an HDMI switch so you can easily go back and forth between the two without having to buy another TV. Instead of getting a switch one person could use HDMI and the other could use component output but that might cause some problems as well. If you're only going to use Synching then AppleTV looks just like an iPod and you both need one of your own. It really isn't as ridiculous as it sounds since it's $50 cheaper than the 80GB video iPod.
Maybe you should both agree to stream. It works really well. Perhaps set up a common iTunes to synch from. Good luck .. I've got similar issues with both kids and wife! So I've an AppleTv in the Den for the kids (synched with Kids stuff) and in the Family room we have another AppleTV synched with more grown up stuff. To go back and forth we just stream to the other library.

  • Quicklook doesn't work with .avi files

Hello, i've got a little problem right here on my mac. The thing is that I used to have Snow Leopard as a OS and quicklook used to work great, it opened all the extensions I used to work with. The thing change when I format my HDD and installed a clean copy of Lion OS. Now quicklook works fine as it used to but not any more with .avi files. I remember that this feature was working great on my previous OS, and it's really important for me to find a solution because quicklook is an absolutely amazing feature of our Macs.
I've tryed to download plugins, restoring permissions or even trying it with a guest user, but no success.
Please help me. If you need more info about specs or something i'll be glad to give them to you.
    Thank you!!!

Also doesn't work with Grapher (.gcx) documents (an Apple format).

  • HT3775 AVI Home Video no Longer Works with Lion

    Hi Everybody,
I have quite a few hours of AVI files (family footage dating back to early 70's transfered to avi from Super-8). This worked before I updated to Lion. Now I get the message "The document xxxxxxxx.avi” could not be opened. A required codec isn't available."
I don't understand why this now doesn't work. When I click on "Tell Me More" option avi is one of the files listed for Quicktime so...
    Can anyone help with this?
    Cheers

As Ogelthorpe above mentioned, the Free VLC Player works fine for that:

  • Ripping audio from AVI

    Hi,
I wasn't sure where to post this question. I didn't see a forum that looked apropriate, and since I'm using an iMac G5 I thought this one was as good as any other. So, what I'm after is software that will allow me to extract audio from AVIs, MPGs, etc. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Hi,
Just wanted to follow up on my original post. I first tried using a freeware AVI spitter called Explicit, then importing the 9-12 minute pieces into iMovie. There was a few problems with this method, though. First, it took around 15 minutes to import one 9-12 minute AVI segment. Second, after it was imported and converted into DV format (the format iMovie uses) it was something like a gig in size. Lastly, the audio, the thing I was after, was completely mangled. So, I downloaded Divx Doctor 2, converted the AVI, and then was able to use Peak (a great audio editing program by BIAS) and was able to extract all the audio and save it as AIFF. I could have actually saved it to any one of several formats, at 16 or 24 bits, for those who aren't familiar with the program. By the way, you can convert more than AVIs with Divx Doctor 2.
Thanks so much for the link! Hopefully this info will help someone else looking for to get samples from movies.

AVI is a legacy file container originated by Microsoft back in 1992 and which has not been officially supported for more than a decade. Like the container, many of the codecs commonly used to create AVI content are also "legacy" compression formats most often supported on PC/Windows platforms. In fact, some codecs have never been transcoded for Mac use. Of those that have, many never made the transition to Mac OS X or the transition to Intel-based platforms. Those codecs that are still supported on the Mac can normally be found in the avi to quicktime converter available as an online download. While some common AVI compression formats may be supported by the QT X Player app, QT 7 currently provides a more compatible AVI playback environment for most "legacy" compression formats. If the codec(s) used in your AVI files are not supported by the avi to quicktime converter for QT use, you can try the VLC media player which may still support more esoteric compression formats. If  VLC does not support the files, the normal approach is to discover which specific audio and/or video codecs were used to create the file and perform an Internet search to see if a compatible Mac component is available for download.
