More Quicktime Presets?

I'm disappointed with the Quicklime HD presets offered with Encoder (none). I've attempted to make my own by trying to match the H264 presets, but I'm no compression expert, so I'm not confident that I've got the most efficient settings.
I'd love to hear some suggestions or see some custom presets that are working well from others.

You don't mention that you ever repaired permissions & restarted, trashed the com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist or tried removing the QuickTime Plugin.webplugin. Was any of this done?
Please post the URL/link of the videos you are having issues with.

  • Quicktime Preset with .mp4 extension?!

I am running Compressor 4.1 and I have a custom-made setting that is based on Quicktime Movie (see attached pic#1) and has mp4 set as the file extension and uses the x.264 encoder. I have made this setting a few months ago and have used it since.
Now I'm trying to make another setting based on Quicktime Movie, but for the **** of it I can't switch the Extension from the default .mov to .,mp4.
Of course I can duplicate an existing setting and tweak it -- and that's what I did but I want to understand why I can't make a setting from scratc anymore.
    Help appreciated

Afraid I don't know the answer to your question. I've not used x.264 in anything other than a MOV wrapper and didn't know MP4 was even possible. How far back did you create the custom preset and did you just substitute mp4 in the extension field? (I could do that in Compressor 3.5; not sure about earlier versions of  C4.)

  • No more Quicktime on Internet Explorer PCs

When any PC with Internet Explorer reaches any page with Quicktime it will show the following message:
An Error occured in an plugin contained on this page.
This plugin did not initialize properly.
You get this message for example when you reach the apple.com/quicktime page.
Unfortunately I have used quicktime movies on several websites of my clients. They are now all calling and complaining that nobody can see the movies.
Any ideas for a workaround?? Other than that I have to replace all quicktime movies with flash???
Was the problem caused by a Microsoft patch, or is it the newest Quicktime version? Is it Microsoft again trying to monopolize their windoof media format?
    Whodany

by the way Quick, the apple.com/quicktime link is also causing this error, in case you misunderstood me...
Anyway I was fiddling around a little:
    I replaced my existing code:
    <embed src="movies/CapriTrailer10.mov" pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/" autoplay="true" controller="true" loop="false" width="480" height="370" align="middle" target="quicktimeplayer">
    with:
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">QTWriteOBJECTXHTML('movies/CapriTrailer10.mov','480','370','','controller','TRUE','target','m yself','type','video/quicktime');</script>
But only on one page, wasn't sure if it would work, and swoosh all of a sudden all Quicktime Videos are working on all pages.
Do you guys who had the same error, are still getting it??? Did Apple fix something? Did Microsoft fix something?
Or did entering this code in my browser just fix it for only me???
I am restarting the PC now, lets see if it will still work...
    yes it still working...
so let me know please, is it also working for all of you???
Or did that java script attempt change something in only my browser?
    Thanks

  • No more quicktime plugin in latest version of Firefox.

Since I installed the latest version of Firefox, every time I attempt to view a Quicktime formatted video, I'm told to download Quicktime. I have a Mac and already have Quicktime. When I go to manage my Firefox add-ons, the Quicktime plugin is no longer there, nor can I find it to download.
    Why?

I finally figured out how to solve this problem. Once I made the move to Mountain Lion via clean install, Quicktime stopped working in FF, but it worked in all my other Mac browsers. The Quicktime plugin will only first register as an FF plugin when you run FF in 32-bit mode. So I quit FF, went to the Applications folder, did a "Get Info" on FF, checked the 32-bit mode box, re-ran FF, was able to see an online Quicktime video (trailers.apple.com), then quit FF, unchecked the 32-bit mode setting, and all is right in the world again.
I actually gave up on FF after all these years and tried to switch full-time to Google Chrome. That did not go as well as I expected, and so I had to figure out the FF problem or else I was going to go mad!

  • More QuickTime problems...

So now, when I go to record a new movie in QT pro, it gives me an error, and I'm sure it would be helpful to post a screenshot here, but alas, that's not an option, GO APPLE!
anyway, "The operation could not be completed. The operation could not be completed due to an unknown error. (NSError "Mac OS error -536870212" Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=-536870212.
So I deleted QT, and reinstalled.
Anyone know why, previously I could record movies with my firewire cam, and now I can't, no updates have been done, nothing on my system has changed.... I tried reinstalling a new version of QT 7.2, seems to have installed fine, restarts, optimizes sys performance, then THEN, it's not in my System applications folder, or my user applications folder. it simply not there. So I copied the app from another installed partition, but I still can't record. My camera works in other apps, just not in QT.
    Anyone??

  • More quicktime exporting troubles

I am pretty new to FCE and video editing generally so, if after reading this problem, someone can point me to where it has been resolved elsewhere, please do so. I've tried scouring the boards for an answer, but nothing I've tried works.
Basically, I'm doing a dissertation using video and audio recorded classroom footage. The video and audio in question comes from a Sony HDR-PJ40V camera with wireless mic. Since this camera records in MTS, I first convert from MTS to AVI with a Windows-based conversion utility. I then convert from AVI to MOV using the following specs:
    Apple DV/DVCPRO-NTSC compression
    Frame size-720 x 480 DV NTSC
    Interlaced scaling
    Uncompressed Stereo 48 kHz audio
Oh, I should say that I'm editing on a 2011 Intel core i5 iMac running 10.6.8 with a 1 TB external hard drive and 16GB RAM, so I don't think speed, storage, or memory are the problem.
I've rendered this file and have a subclip I'd like to export to quicktime. However, every time I try exporting to quicktime, either uncompressed or through Quicktime Conversion, the resulting file is black and soundless, if one is produced at all. Quite often I simply get the "General Error" or "Codec Error" messages.
I'm starting to think I'll just have to show audiences my FCE files directly, but that would be seriously clunky and a major pain. Any advice would be most appreciated.

Curious, what did you use to convert from AVI to MOV?
Open it (the converted file) in QT Player and hit command i. What does it tell you about its format?
Also – I'm assuming the original file structure is no longer intact and that's why you used the Windows app…

  • CS3 Presets to CS5?

    Hi,
Is there anyway to import presets from Media Encoder CS3 to CS5?

    Hi John,
I should have put a caveat on my original message - presets from older versions of AME will work only if the internal data structure of the format in question hasn't changed.  That's the short way of saying that in every version of AME there's a risk that our software developers will need to change how a format represents its settings internally, and the data in presets from earlier versions won't match up.
That's my fault for not noting that requirement, and I apologize.
In the case of QuickTime presets specifically, this is very true. In my simple tests, QuickTime presets from CS3 will not open in CS5.  (Your original post did not specify a format; I didn't do a very good job with my initial tests before replying to your message.)  Here's why:
Because Premiere Pro and After Effects are now 64-bit applications, and there is no 64-bit version of QuickTime available, the Adobe CS5 applications needed a new method to write QuickTime files.  AME, After Effects, and Premiere Pro now handle all of the QuickTime settings internally, instead of calling on the QuickTime API as was done in CS4 and earlier versions.  Then they call a 32-bit service called Adobe QT 32 Server, which talks to QuickTime and writes the file.
The fallout of the changes in CS5 have impacted you in two different ways.
    1. The data structure for QuickTime presets is now very, very different.  Presets from earlier versions won't work in CS5.
    2. The appearance and arrangement of the settings for QuickTime is different.  You have noticed this.
Let's tackle some of the specific changes you've mentioned about the available QuickTime options:
    > For example, the Quicktime DVCPRO-NTSC settings availble in CS3 is not available in CS5.
Correct, this specific codec doesn't exist in CS5.  Use instead the DV25 NTSC or DV50 NTSC codec.  Probably DV25, unless you have a specific need for DV50.
    > In addition, a number of Options (field orders, etc) are greyed out in AME CS5
Some codecs, including the DV formats, are implicit to a format that defines certain parameters of the video.  For example, DV NTSC is ALWAYS 720x480, 0.9 or 1.21 PAR, 29.97fps, Lower Field First.  When a codec pre-defines parameters, AME CS5 doesn't allow you to change them.  If you change the codec to one that allows more control, for example None or PNG, you will see these options become available again.
(As a comparison, choose the DVCPRO HD 1080i60 codec, and you'll see that it locks the parameters to 1280x1080, 1.5 PAR, 29.97fps, Upper Filed First.)
Earlier versions of AME did not impose this type of restriction for QuickTime because it was using the QuickTime API, and that dictated what settings were possible.  QuickTime is actually kind of lazy about complying with format restrictions.  You could stuff just about any frame rate/frame size/field order/etc. of video into most QuickTime codecs and it would not only accept it, but QuickTime Player could play it back.  But you'd get unpredictable results if you tried to use that QuickTime file with a system that ahderes to strict format compliance.
    =====
Now, QuickTime aside, I assure you that my previous post wasn't in error.  Some presets from CS3 will work in CS5.  I've tested the MPEG2, H.264, and FLV formats on Windows and verified that they work.  I did see some problems; for example the frame rate for H.264 and FLV wasn't correct when the preset was loaded into CS5.  So if you do transfer a preset from earlier versions to CS5, you should inspect the preset after loading to make sure that it is correct.
Note that when you save a preset, you are not given the option to choose where the preset is saved.  The file is always saved in the default location.
    CS3: <drive>\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\3.0\MediaIO\Presets
    CS5: <drive>\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\AME\5.0
You can copy the preset files to a different location if you want, but simply copying them into the folder for CS5 won't automatically load them into AME CS5.  You need to use the Import Preset function inside AME to add them to your list of presets.
Also, do not rename the .vpr files from CS3 to .epr.  I don't understand why, but this causes them to fail to load.  But because CS5 only looks for .epr files in the Import dialog, you need to use a little trickery to make it find them.
Here are the steps to take:
In AME CS5, select the format you are going to add the preset to.  For example, if you want to add a preset for FLV, don't leave the Format selection on MPEG2.  Change it to FLV or you'll get an error.
Click the Import Preset button (the folder icon).
Navigate to the folder where the preset is located.
In the File Name field, type the name of the preset file, including the .vpr extension.  You could also copy/paste the name, or usually if you just start typing the name then Windows will display a drop-down menu with the list of file names in that folder that match what you've typed.  For example, if the preset file name is "FLV 640x480 30fps.vpr", if you type "FLV 6", you should see a list of files that start with that name.  Click on the file name to load the whole string into the File Name field.
    Click Open.
The preset will be loaded, and you'll be shown a dialog asking you to name it.  Yes, this is a little bit redundant.
    =====
I hope that clears up the situation for you.  Please reply with further questions if not.
To wrap this all up, I need to give you a caveat that is bigger than the one before: the workflow of transferring presets between versions of AME was not explicitly designed to work.
That is to say that when AME was designed, this workflow was either not considered, or wasn't included due to time or budget constraints.  (I couldn't tell you which since I wasn't working on the AME project when those decisions were made.)  Keep in mind what I posted above about how data structures can change from version to version; that means the ability to transfer presets from version to version would require specific engineering and testing work; it's not a given.
One reason why the work may not have been considered is that not enough people asked for it.  That's where you can help us.  If this is something you'd like to see in a future release, I encourage you to fill out a feature request for it.
And all of the above said, Presets is one area of AME that we know needs to be improved, and we are working on improvements for future releases.  But don't let that stop you from filing feature requests if you have ideas about how you'd like AME to work, or for any other change you'd like to see in an Adobe product.

  • Export to Quicktime/Movie to MPEG-4 Quality Much Worse with Snow Leopard?

I just tried exporting an HD movie from iMovie using Export to Quicktime - Movie to MPEG-4 for the first time since upgrading to Snow Leopard and besides taking forever to export, the quality at the same settings I've used before is terrible. There's terrible macroblocking even on relatively slow moving scenes. I've exported several movies using the same workflow previously to upgrading and the video was perfect.
I use mpeg-4, H.264 encoding, 4096 bit rate, 1920x1080 HD resolution, key frame every 15 frames. It's definitely a change in the encoder as just sharing to the Media Browser results in expected quality.
As a test, I tried upping the bitrate to 5120 but it didn't help with the macroblocking.
Anyone with similar problems and/or a solution?

I've actually started noticing more artifacts using the Share to Media Browser quicktime presets. The movies that are created don't seem to be as high quality as ones I've created before. It's almost like quicktime is missing keyframes or something and then artifacting. It's not consistent. I've got one mobile formatted movie where it artifacts badly in the first minute and then not at all afterwards. It's kind of frustrating.

  • Playing quicktime movies in Keynote 3

Hi, Is it possible to place two or more quicktime videos on a single keynote slide so they show without all simultaneously playing? I want to be able to click any of the videos so they play independently. I have tried various workarounds without success, but am getting very frustrated.
    Comments greatly appreciated.
    cheers,
    Nick
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

The problem is, there's no build called "Play media" so, you have to do a work around. First you use any build (I usually use the appear build) on each movie, and check your timings. You won't see the movies before they play, but they'll play in the order you want. Then you have to basically take a screen shot of the movie, or open them in QT and copy one frame that you want to represent the movie. Paste that frame on the slide and stick it right where each movie is sitting, then send it behind the movie. You'll get something that LOOKS like a slide full of movies, and each time you click the mouse, each movie will come in on top of the picture of the movie and play.

  • FAQ: What is a Preset, or How do I get that same effect?

    What are presets?
Lightroom presets can be your most powerful ally in making your workflow travel at the speed of light. While most of the time "presets" means Develop Presets, these saved settings fall under the following categories:
    Auto Layout Presets
    Develop Presets
    Export Presets
    External Editor Presets
    FTP Presets
    Import Presets
    Local Adjustment/Graduated Filter Presets
    Metadata Presets
    Filename and Text Template Presets
    Where are my presets stored?
From Preference and other file locations:
Mac OS X: Installed and custom presets and templates have filenames ending in .lrtemplate and are located in the [user name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom folder.
Windows XP: Installed and custom presets and templates have filenames ending in .lrtemplate and are located in folders in the Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom
Win Vista/7: Installed and custom presets and templates have filenames ending in .lrtemplate and are located in folders in the Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Lightroom folder.

  • Printing in Aperture 3 -- Interface & Presets Issues

I very much like the general direction of change in the printing interface, and I can print with satisfaction as to quality in A3, with my primary printer (Epson R1900). But the creation of printing presets seems not to be able to capture final settings made in the Printer dialogue, nor is there a way in the A3 dialogue to pre-access those functions in order to Save in the Preset. This includes turning off the color management in the printer, and setting of expansion of the print to zero when using borderless. I seem to have to reset these for each print I initiate?
In addition, while I can get a change to a Preset to Save between sessions of Aperture, if I have two or more custom presets, the change to any one of them gets made in all of them?
With the first issue, what I am talking about is what in A2 could be accessed in the Aperture print dialogue with the Print Settings button. With that you could access those items that one also sees after you click the Print button, but by doing so via the Print Settings button, those choices could also be encompassed into the Save of the Preset.
For clarity of what is missing, as least for Epson printers, click on the third screenshot in this below O'Reilly link, to enlarge, then you will see the Print Setting button immediately below the name of printer box:
    http://blogs.oreilly.com/aperture/2008/06/printing-tips.html
I found this to be the same for all Epson printers, at least. But I see no way to access this in A3. This is not a good development if something akin to the Print Settings button cannot be found in the A3 Print dialogue. If achieving this involves selections for the Default Printer that would impact every app that might use this printer, it would not be handy.
With respect to the saving of Presets, I find this mysterious and either a bug or something simple that I am missing.
    Ernie

    Ernie,
there seems to be a bug with saving presets, see
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2349173
    for more info and workarounds.
Printing in AP3 is a 'two-step' process now - there might have been problems to integrate the various options of printer drivers into the AP interface...
    1) AP printing dialog. In AP3 the settings for ColorProfile, PageOrientation, Paper and Printer are saved in the apps preference file, while all other settings can be bound to user-defined presets. This means that changes made to these four will always be reflected to all presets and you will have to check them before you print.
    2) System printing dialog. Here you could define presets for those (printer related) options not available in the AP interface anymore (printing and paper quality, etc.) to streamline your printing. The four settings mentioned above are taken over from AP to System dialog.
I must admit that I personally liked the AP2 way much more, but this one seems to be more compatible.
    Hope this helps,
    Jashe

  • Quicktime Export options are missing (only in AME)

    Hey,
I already searched around for a while and also found another thread in this board, as well some info in the official documentation, saying that AME only installs certain export options, if it's not installed within the proper package of applications (like premiere or after effects).
Well, I did install it as part of the Master Collection, and also have both Premiere and AFX up and running.
The Initial install was a horrible procedure, since there was still some photoshop cs6 beta file lurking around and just wouldnt leave, even with the CS cleaner tool.
When I finally managed to install CS6, everything worked fine, except one major flaw.. When I export a file from premiere as a quicktime, everyhting works as it should. But when I hit "send to AME", the quicktime preset just doesnt make it's way over to the media encoder, but I have only h264 and 4 other formats to choose from. Just no QT available. (I'm on a mac).
I already tried installing the entire package over the original installation, but it didnt help. I also have CS6 installed on my macbook, where everything works perfectly fine. I compared the media encoder folder on both machines and it's identical in size. In the library I wasn't able to find any media encoder related files.
Please, does anyone have any Idea how to get QT export in ame up and running again without going through a complete cleansing of my system and reinstall the whole package? I'm in the middle of a project now and would really like to have it working.
(it worked before in cs5, btw)
    THX

Just like chfilm I have the same problem with AME CS6 on Mavericks.
I came here after having resolved another problem, namely because Premiere Pro (PP)
and AME were not even launching as soon as the Quick Time Bundle Host were being loaded on the splash screen – same thing happened with PP (see screenshot).
A Forum discussion for that is here: https://forums.adobe.com/message/5521256
I followed the correct answer suggestion and deleted two files in AME as well as in PP.
They were called "ExporterQuicktimeHost.bundle and ImporterQuicktimeHost.bundle".
    Except, that I didn't have a file called "ImporterQuicktimeHost.bundle" but a plain "ImporterQuickTime.bundle".
Since the Quicktime Presets in AME are now missing, I think that this problem is related to the problem of this thread.
Here is what I tried to resolve the case of the missing presets:
    - I tried out the solutions under post #8 (the correct answer)
    - and #25 by leejk of this thread.
    Neither worked for me.
    - I also tried uninstalling the whole adobe suite and used the Adobe Cloud Cleaner Tool and then reinstalled the Adobe Suite.
    Nothing changed.
    - With the newly installed Adobe Suite, I followed post #4 of this thread Uninstalling AME CC
to make sure, my files weren't corrupted. (If you look into the thread: instead of a version 7.0 I had a version 6.0.)
Btw: Before uninstalling the whole suite, every application, including PP worked – except of AME.

I realize Logic Pro 9 comes with more instrument presets than any one person can audition in a single day, or a week or month for that matter. But I am looking for the data base where other users have shared their own settings. Line 6 has one for Pod Farm and despite their 1000 presets, I found what other users did to be super amazing.
