  • How can i allocate more RAM for my onboard video card on a 2011 macbook pro 13 inch running windows 7 via bootcamp

I noticed that since Macbooks.. macs in general use an EFI instead of BIOS.  . .. Now i need to allocate some more RAM for the onboard video card since its currently running with an estimated 50mb.. I would like to increase this to 512  and cut the 3.95 down to 3.5 MB for the rest of the system ( allowing me to run more graphic intensive games and the such ... ) I know this could slow down the entire system.. ( i am aware of this ) and have gotten a 3rd party application to control and close out uneeded processes during gaming.. I just need more ram for my onboard video card.. Any help?

You don't allocate more RAM towards your video card, you put more RAM into the machine and hopefully some machines will bump the CPU graphics RAM allocation up a little.
The problem is you bought a integrated only graphics computer, if you want to 3D game you need a dedicated graphics computer with it's own or dedicated VRAM.
If your this serious about 3D gaming, your on the wrong platform.
Get a Windows 7 64bit i7 8GB RAM expandable 3D gaming tower with a good power supply and video card upgrade path, this way every few years you buy and stick in a new video card to play the latest games.
Mac's are not gaming machines and never will be because they would last too long if we could upgrade them.

  • Want to buy more ram for my macbook pro. What to buy?

    +Model Name: MacBook Pro+
    +Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo+
    +Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz+
    +Total Number Of Cores: 2+
    +Memory: 4 GB+
I am looking to buy more ram for my macbook, but I don't know what to look for. Do I have to buy 2x 4GB and get rid of my old ram or I can buy 2 x 2GB and use them all together?
Also, same with HD. I need more HD as well. Can I install another harddrive as well?

There are only 2 slots for RAM. So, you'd need to replace one of the 2 GB sticks with a 4 GB stick for a total of 6 GB, or replace both for a total of 8 GB.
Yes, you can replace the HDD with a larger one as well. There are instructions in the manual.

  • Does more RAM for Macbook mean less battery time???

i am currently using my macbook with 1gb ram, but i am thinking about an upgrade to 2gb. i read and searched the internet for this quest in google, but i didn't get a satisfying answer.
my simple question is: does more ram also need more power and _do i therefore have less battery time?_

BTW: I got my RAM from macsales.com

  • Allocating more RAM for LiveType

I have a G5, dual 1.8 gHz with 2 gigs of RAM and I was wondering if there was a way I could get LiveType to use more RAM - I have iDVD, photoshop, indesign, bridge, adium, mail and Camino browser running, too, and I'm using roughly 700 megs of RAM...
If I can utilize the other 1300 megs of RAM, won't that speed up the rendering and previewing (and just plain working) for LiveType?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
RAM is alike a top of table furniture where you lay your working tools to do a job.
Despite the table top is big enough, the more you have tools on it, the more it will take to grab tool. You have to locate them in a bunch of others.
It's generally not a good idea to open multiple applications when you do a RAM intensive job, like working with Livetype.
With this habit, your RAM can be fragmented and the swapping content from real RAM chips to your HD (that's the way virtual memory works) take processing and caching time.
By the way, in the early days of Mac OS X, there were "memory leackage" bug that slowly "eated" the free memory.
Believe me, it's better to open only the needed application, from a cold start of your computer.

  • More RAM for my MacPro

    Hi,
Is it possible to get more RAM than 8 Gigs on a Single Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro?
I bought mine fully loaded about 4 months ago but I see now that you can go up to 16 Gigs on the brand new MacPro, as being advertized recently on the Apple Store Web Page.
If so, do I have to change the Logic Board or add/by another card of somme nature? Is there any third party resellers who does it?
    Thanks
    RM

You have one option, pull (and sell) your 8GB and install 4 x 4GB.

  • More RAM for Final Cut?

Im probably beating a dead horse here so if someone can point me in the right direction, great
I just installed a gig of RAM and plan on getting another shortly, giving me 4 and half gigs in my g5 powermac. My question is, in order to enjoy the benefits of more RAM, do I need to tell Final Cut Pro to use more of it in the preferences or something? Do I need to make any changes in order to notice the added memory?
This is my first RAM install that I've done before so I am unsure. Thanks
    Bones

Probably not... but you can assign RAM to FCP in FCP's System Settings found in the FCP menu. There's a tab there labeled "Memory and Cache"... set it to 100%. You'll not be able to use all of the RAM you may have installed, however more RAM allows you to run more than one app at a time without bringing your machine to it's knees...

  • Benefits of more RAM for Tiger?

    I have recently ordered an extra 512mb of RAM for my iBook G4, 1.33ghz with 256mb RAM built in (iLife 05). I wanted to know where and in what ways I would see performance increases;
    - in the general running of Tiger overall
    - in using the following apps:
-----iPhoto (currently extremely slow...with 500 photos in the library)
    -----iTunes
    -----GarageBand
    -----Photoshop
    -----Quicktime
Many thanks guys, just so I can know what to expect.
    Regards,
    Adam

    Hello Adam.
I can't provide you exactly what you can expect to see in performance increases but the following links should be helpful.

  • Is more ram for OS X always better?

I have an iMac Intel Core Duo and I have open or use the following programs constantly:
    Eye TV
    iTunes
    Skype
    Mail
    iChat in menu bar
    Front Row
    1st Question:
How much memory recommended for my situation?
    2nd Question:
I have heard that the more memory the better. But will 2 gigs verses 1 gig for the casual user (mail, safari) make any difference?

My Core Duo with 512MB was a slug, so a year ago in put in a 1GB module now at 1.5GB. At the time 1GB modules were running about $130.00 bucks so I only did the one..
I also think you should go with a 2GB kit 2x1GB you'll be able to open and run all those App's + more.

  • More ram for Macbook pro gaming

I was wondering i have a 6750m 512mb and 4gb of ram, if i upgrade to 8gb will it help improve anything? will it help boost frames it stuff like call of duty ghost? or anything else i have i7 , macbook pro late 2011

Sorry, if I was paying attention I would have known that.  I am always of the belief that if you do any type of gaming, especialy console ports, at least 8GB of RAM is a good number and a graphics card with 1GB of dedicated ram.  Gaming asside, I consider 8GB to be a minimum these days.  Apple still pushes 4GB as a jumping off point and for most people doing day to day tasks on a Mac (web browsing, word processing, etc) 4GB of ram paired with an i5 processor is sufficient.  Most i7 processors are good enough for gaming, although quad core will make some difference.  So to answer your question, I would think you will see some frame rate improvements by doubling your ram but the graphics card may still hinder you a bit.

  • Is there a way to make Aperture use more RAM for better performance?

I know in Photoshop or Lightroom (I forget which) you can designate the amount of RAM the program uses. Is it possible to do this in Aperture? If not, is there any other way. I just want it so that when I'm using Aperture, it designates most system resources to Aperture. Thanks.

I think that RAM designation in Ps or Lr is rather a limit/maximum which you can set then what it will/must use (perhaps in order to keep other programs running smoothly).
If you simply dont run any other programs Aperture should get all the attention it can get from your computer. Well maybe it cant use all your RAM if you have 8GB.. but it will use what it needs.
I believe that there are some terminal commands that can assign CPU priority to some processes, but in not entirly sure about how that works and if it helps.. just search for it on the web..

  • Can I add more ram than suggested

I need to get some more ram for my imac that apple say I can expand to 16gb. I currently have the standed 4gb.
In the following article from pcworld i noticed the following (especially the bold)
All iMacs come standard with 4GB of memory, installed as a pair of 2GB modules. When you order an iMac through the Apple Online Store, you have the option to upgrade the memory to 8GB (a pair of 4GB modules) on all iMac models for $200, or to 16GB (four 4GB modules) on the 27-inch models for $600. The iMac has four memory slots located at the bottom of the iMac that are user-accessible. Since two slots are empty when you buy an standard-configuration iMac, you can easily add more memory. The 21.5 inch iMac has support for up to 16GB of memory; third party companies are offering 32GB memory upgrades for the new 27-inch iMac.
Does this mean that I can technically go up to 32gb?  Is there a down side to adding more the an 16gb suggested.

Although you can install up to 16 GBs of RAM in both 21 and 27" models, I can not confirm that you can install 32 GBs in the 27" model. You might check OWC to see what they say.

  • Adding RAM for Oracle 9i

    Hi,
I have an oracle database 9iR2 installed in my server (32 bits processor, 4GB ram). And I want to add more RAM for oracle database. It is possible? and do I need to do any setting for the previous oracle instance to fit the newly added RAM (Swap space)?
    Thank you.
    ~ vincent.

    Hello,
yes, you can add more RAM without any problem. Take into account that if the O.S. it's windows 32b. , it will only see 3,3 GB (unless using PAE). Linux OS has no problem with that.
You don't have to make any previous settings or changes in the database. Just add RAM. After you've added the RAM, the database just will continue using the same amount as before. You'll have to change this modifying all the memory related parameters (SGA, ...)

  • HT1342 so how do i know if i need more ram? (upgrade from snow- mt. lion)

Here is the mac that i have. I want to upgrade from snow l. to mt, lion when it comes out. articles are saying that i will need 4gb even though the updae page says 2gb. how do i read the activity monitor to see if i need more ram for the update? or do i just need to wait, install teh update, and then check? I want to get this all done in the next month so help would be great!

2 GBs is the minimum required. 4 GBs or more would be better. Your model supports up to 8 GBs.

Understanding top output in the Terminal
The amount of available RAM for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. This will change as applications are opened and closed or change from active to inactive status. The Swap figure represents an estimate of the total amount of swap space required for VM if used, but does not necessarily indicate the actual size of the existing swap file. If you are really in need of more RAM that would be indicated by how frequently the system uses VM. If you open the Terminal and run the top command at the prompt you will find information reported on Pageins () and Pageouts (). Pageouts () is the important figure. If the value in the parentheses is 0 (zero) then OS X is not making instantaneous use of VM which means you have adequate physical RAM for the system with the applications you have loaded. If the figure in parentheses is running positive and your hard drive is constantly being used (thrashing) then you need more physical RAM.
Adding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently.  It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster.  What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM dependent.  It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs.
