More shortcuts for future iOS updates

Would like peoples thoughts on the following shortcuts.
In addition to the drag down notifications menu I was thinking of the following drag down menus for quicker and easier access.
1.Drag down from 3G (the left of the time) to toggle 3G, Wifi and data on and off.
2. drag down from bluetooth (the right of the time) to toggle bluetoth and location services on and off.
This will make accessing these services much easier which will help to quickley turn them on and off making them great power saving features for ALL iOS devices (ipad, iphone, ipad)
Thanks,
Pe88lz!

I'm all for quick access to data, wifi and bluetooth.
If Apple would open the notification plugins (where stocks and weather are) to outside developers that would be a great place to put these kinds of choices.

  • What is the oldest generation of iPad that will still allow me to run IOS8 and allow for future IOS updates?

Buying a used iPad... what is the oldest generation of iPad that will still allow me to run IOS8 and allow for future IOS updates?
    Thanks

An iPad 2 will do it...for awhile. Realize that it's seemingly on it's last legs as far as iOS updates go and performance will not be great enough for today's demanding games. Also realize that a big part of running apps smoothly is how much system RAM (the memory area that the apps actually run in) the device has. The iPad 2 has 512 MB which is adequate for most apps but not for some. The iPads above the iPad 2 all have 1 GB of system RAM and the iPad Air 2 has 2 GB.
The time will come when the iPad 2 can no longer be updated past a certain iOS version (as the iPad 1 is) so it will be more difficult to keep up with apps that you want to be using. This will eventually happen to ALL devices so you'll have to judge if you want to be at the tail-end of iOS updates or at least have a bigger buffer with a newer iPad.

  • How do I disable future iOS updates till later date to prevent problems with non iOS compliant Apps?

Hello first time post here so excuse me if my posting etiquette is off and this seems lengthy.
I am a beginning tech (4 months) in a school district that has started the 1 to 1 initiative with iPads (iPad 2).
There is a huge learning curve I am facing as I don't know hardly anything about the new piece of software - apple Configurator. (A side note I was issued my very first iPad in the same time working for the district. BTW liking the iPad a lot).
I am looking for friendly beginning user info on how to operate the Apple Configurator - suggestions? At this time I have only served in an observer capacity as it assigned to someone else in the district to do. However I know this person would appreciate another mind to help out  around the problem so I need to get up to speed.
This a story of bumps and scrapes and bruises on the 1-1 initiative in the district and its 4 major hiccups have occurred (that I observed).
I am hoping others have discovered these problems and figured out a way to handle them or avoid them and would be willing to share what you did.
    Here goes...
The district started the 1-1 initiative roughly 3 years ago. They had a person in the middle school (way before me) in charge of the iPads. They used the IPhone Configurator device to manage the iPads. My understanding was this was very slow. That person was finally able to retire and took their knowledge they had of the iPhone Configurator utility that they used with them. The district chose to start using the Apple Configurator software this year for iPad management.
We have a brand new person that has been put in charge of this. The person did not know the software either (nor did anyone else in the district). This person has made great strides to learn the software. However there has been some issues along the way:
            1. The school where the iPad 1-1 initiative is a middle school. The students are assigned the same iPad for all three years. As 6th graders come in they are issued an iPad. As the 8th grade finishes up, they head on to high school and the iPads gets recycled to the next 6th graders walking in the door. Each grade level has there own set of apps, so the (finished) 8th graders iPads get reset for the next 6th graders walking in.
The issue is (my understanding) is that the volume purchase apps did not always revert back to the Apple Configurator/App store spread sheets before the iPads were reset. It took an act of congress with Apple to refund these apps because they were lost. Mind you we have 400 iPads in just this school alone so you can see why it was important to get these Volume Purchase Apps refunded to put on the new 6th graders iPads. $$$
             2. When the iPads were given to the students, the Apps would not work and all they would do is shake for a second. The iPads were recollected and redone. Time away from the students and classes.
            3. The iPads were refinished (with all the apps reinstalled) and given to the students. Then the students were given instructions in class how to manually setup their exchange email accounts on their iPads. Turns out the restrictions on the iPads (from the apple Configurator) were set up so the email info they put in could not verify with the exchange server. They wouldn't send or receive. So the iPads were all recalled back (time away from students and their classes again) and redone with the restrictions/ apps reinstalled.
            4. Most recent problem... iOS6 came out and all of a sudden we find out that two of our biggest 3rd party Apps were having problems with it. So it made the Apps at that point worthless. (These are paid for - expensive, most used by the school Apps).  Well there was no way to prevent the students from updating to IOS6 on their own (mind you they can't get to the App Store) but they can do the iOS6 update whenever they want. Before the problem was discovered, students were prompted by their iPads and they started doing the iOS6 update. I discovered this and immediately had the secretary send out emails to everyone do not download this thing because it was making problems for existing installed Apps. Of course there are were a few more students that were like "this don't apply to me right?" and they downloaded it anyways.
So after 3 weeks of these apps not working, App update/releases were finally given and they are working again. So far we have only fixed some of iOS6 kids that are in need of those two broken apps.
Now we are at a crossroad with the other 95 installed apps to consider ... if we let the students update to iOS6 to fix the two broken apps will it interfere with the other 93 apps that are working under iOS5.1...
This iOS update thing would be better considered in the summer time for us (for future iOS updates).
So I need to know is there away to prevent this in the future? Is there away to hold off the iOS updates till summer? I've seen people say control it by blocking it through the network but it doesn't prevent them from doing this at home. Where in the apple Configurator can we control this?
    Thanks for reading.

You will not be able to block IOS 6.  You can try blocking it with a webfilter or firewall but if the students take these home or connect to another network or iTunes they can get it that way.   You will find that the vast majority of all apps will work with 6 or have been updated to work with it by now.

  • I deleted my music through the "manage storage" section in the options to make room for the ios update awhile back. Now I can't get any music back onto my device through itunes. (I've tried restoring the device twice to no avail)

I deleted my music through the "manage storage" section in the options to make room for the ios update awhile back. Now I can't get any music back onto my device through itunes. (I've tried restoring the device twice to no avail)

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Will Ipad generation 1 support future ios updates, past year 2015?

I am looking to buy an ipad gen 1 but am unsure because I hear that ipad will not support future ios updates? Thanks!

This is a user-to-user forum. No one here is privy to Apple's development roadmap. The iPad 1 runs everything current. Eventually, like every piece of hardware, it will be too old to support current software. No one here knows when that is, though.
    Best of luck.

  • When i plug my phone into itunes for the ios update, it downloads but then says it cant connect to the server. How do i get my update?

When i plug my phone into itunes for the ios update, it downloads but then says it cant connect to the server. How do i get my update?

Here are Apple Steps for Error 21:
This error typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
    My additional advice:
Also Error 21 can occur with DFU Mode Restore, try Recovery Mode Restore. Restart computer. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer. Hold both home and power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. This usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Click Restore button of iTunes.

  • Suggestion to Apple for future firmware update

Can I make a suggestion or two here of some features if there's an upgrade to the firmware of the iPod Video?
-It would be mighty cool to have one more option for Backlight...maybe one where every time it switches tracks, it would light up for 5 or 10 seconds.
-I WISH the timed sleep function could be put on the main menu rather than having to go into the Clock settings first.
-A display option added that would show just the artwork.

The first one is a really good one with an option to set your iPod to light up for a couple seconds when it switches tracks. So many times in the car I won't recognize the track (especially if it is something new I added to iTunes) and I have to touch the iPod to force the backlight on so I can see what it is.
Another one I would love to see, and have send the idea to Apple years ago, is to allow the screen color to be changed rather than being white. One very useful application of this would be to use a dark red screen so when using the iPod at night when you want to look at the iPod the blinding white screen ruins your night vision, so having the option to change the screen color, while cool in its own right, would be great to have a "night" setting using a dark red screen.

  • Is there a plan to include autocorrect for bluetooth keyboards in future iOS updates?

I have recently purchased an iPad Air 2 and to increase useability purchased a Logitech +type bluetooth keyboard. I'm very happy with both but disappointed in the lack of autocorrect function between the bluetooth keyboards (not a logitech deficiancy) and iOS.
Is there a plan to fix this please?!

Is that because you also ask the same question to Logitech and that was their response, since you're using a 3rd party software

  • Using mail : no more shortcut for Contact's group ?

    Hi,
I begin to use Mavericks/Mail (by the way, no Mail Discussion?), and I can't find how to send a message to a group that I created in Contacts (a smart group). I have to select each member to copy in the adress field.
Do I make a mistake? Is it a bug or a lost function (I hope not!) ?

Sorry, I hope you got the humorous side of my previous reply, I wasn't being flippant.
I agree with all of your points.
I've sent several feedback messages to IMO over the last few months including bug reports, feature requests and praise.  I really mean it when I say that it's the best IM app.
    Positives:
    Clean interface
    Dark background
    Many protocols
Low battery drain when in background
    Reliable
Audio/vibrate notifications on messages for unseen (not current) chat window
Multiple simultaneous connections allowed and all keep up to date
Online secure history of entire chat (searchable!)
    Negatives:
Split-screen keyboard input not properly implemented (might be a prob with Swype)
I've tried (extensively) Nokia IM Chat, Fring, eBuddy, Palringo, Nimbuzz and Slick. IMO is the best.

  • Suggestion for future Numbers update

I upgraded to v. 3.5.2.  BUT, I miss the drop down menu that used to be on the lower edge of the startup screen called:  Open Recent or whatever it was.  Now, just like in Excel, I have to close the format screen and go to File to Open Recent.  Please consider re-adding that option from the initial screen.

This is a user to user forum.
you could send your feedback to apple: https://www.apple.com/feedback/numbers.html
You can still access this feature from the startup screen though: (cf photo)
You can also still use the older version of numbers if you have a Time Machine backup you can recover it from.

  • Is Apple considering the inclusion of a MS Exchange Groups functinality for iCloud Contacts in future iOS7 updates?

Is Apple considering Exchange Groups functinality for iCloud Contacts in future iOS7 updates? If not, I am considering a change to an Android or Blackberry device.
Since converting from Palm and Balckberry devices a few years ago, I have missed the full MS Exchange Contact Group functionality they had.
I have used many of the work-arounds and thrid party apps people have suggested but I find they are not convnient.
Does any else want this functionality in iOS?

We are all fellow users and not Apple employees so no one knows what Apple is looking at for future iOS versions.  All any of us can do is wait and see and give Apple feedback: http://www.apple.com/feedback

  • Suggestion for future firmware release

Hi, I'm proud to be a possessor of an AirPort Extreme and I would reccomend some useful deficiencies for future firmware update.
The ability to specify DNS1 and DNS2 for DHCP Client (I don't want that AirPort resolve itself)
The ability to quickly turn off and on wireless for health and green respect.
I'm thinking at a small application that doesn't restart AirPort but only turn off and on wireless and wired host continue to work.
Obviously AirPort Extreme doesn't have any hardware button to turn off wireless, but this could be a great thing for future models of AirPort...
    Best regards!

Why not let Apple know directly about your suggestions?
