More Strangeness today

I'd posted earlier about screen artifacts ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1189349&tstart=0 ). Well, after rebooting, things seemed to settle down. No more artifacts, Foxfire stays lit now, though I did lose all my FF prefs in the fire. NOW it seems that Command-Shift-4 no longer works. I checked the system prefs for it and it's checked to work, but nothing happens when I do it. The cursor doesn't change to the cross hairs and if I try to marquee around something it simply doesn't work. Command Shift 3 results in a full screen shot. What gives??? I'm glad Leopard is arriving Friday. I'm probably going to do a complete redo on my hard drive and migrate rather than upgrade. TIA for any insight.

Apparently it was the Viewsonic monitor. I went into its setup mode pressing the little buttons on the side and reset its input to digital, even though it was already set to digital. The monitor went dark, then when it came back up, I could do the command shift 4 thing again....go figure. Thanks for the look see.

It's nothing to do with your storage levels: there are limits placed on the numbers of emails you can send.

9.1 More strange intermitten freezes! Spooky stuff.

A strange thing happened recently on my G4 OS 9.1. Intermitten freezes. I can't leave the computer idle for more than 5 minutes or it freezes. As long as I'm working it, it's fine. But if I stop—no matter what software I'm using—it freezes. I've been through some of the other posts and have rebuilt the desktop, emptied servers from the servers folder, and removed alaises to other drives. I've also turned off my sleep and screen saver. This problem may have coincided with the replacement of my two 20" tube monitors with 19" Samsung LCDs. For a while it seemed I had to set the monitors to different Hzs to get things not to freeze. That seemed to work for a while. I reinstalled 9.1 and that seemed to work for a while too. I have a drive array attached but even when it's not on freezes still occur. I've run disk doctor and speed disk—no change. In "About this computer" it shows a big Mac OS 9.2 but says version 9.1. Any detectives out there want to take this case? Thanks.

Thanks Tom. I'll give it a try. It's a Fantom hard drive array that I use with Media 100 for video capture. It's in a chain with another drive so I guess I'll go through the connect/disconnect routine that you've suggested. As long as the computer is active it won't lock up. I just can't leave it for more than a few minutes without it freezing (the cursor works but everything else is stuck. Very odd.).

Pictures take way more space today than yesterday

The other day I had an issue with my PC and had to change a few things with it. I had about 11k pics on my pad and it didnt take much space at all. The PC said its was about 3GB of data only, and the pod for the most part agreed on its end ( i understand it make thumbnails and such so the data sizes to bump up some). But today after the PC issue was resolved I re synced the pad and the same 3GB of pics now take up 35GB of data on the pad. I really dont see how it suddenly gained 30GB of data overnight because I had to uninstall and reinstall I Tunes. Any ideas or fixes that I failed to see?

Wow dude I have the EXACT same problem as you, same version, same iPod... Only things different is I SHOULD be able to update to 4.3.1 (haven't tried it yet) and it shows that 4.4GB is used up from Apps...
I havent added them up but it should be at LEAST under 4GB, the biggest app on there is ~540MB (Infinity Blade and I have two racing games which add up to ~1301MB(~1GB), From there it's just small apps like Angry Birds which range from 125MB(Highest)-as small as 2.5MB(Smallest)
So maybe there is a fault in our current versions? Will appreciate response asap

This error is not a good one. I'm note sure I underdstand it, Do I have a conflict somewhere? I have downloaded jsf-1.2_04-b01-RC1 and jstl1.2.jar. I'm using java 6 and linux.

I had similar problem with the Tomcat 6.0.10 and JSF 1.1.
As there is no answer to this thread I want to share the solution with others.
In my case the problem gone after removing el-api.jar from the WEB-INF/lib directory of my webapp. Tomcat 6 already contains the el-api.jar in the lib directory.
Also I do not know if it is the solusion for the JSF 1.2.

Restard LR resolves the problem temporary.

Sounds like it might be catalog corruption. Try going to the File menu, choose Catalog Settings... and optimize your catalog. Make sure you back up the catalog first just to be safe.

More strange network problems

For what its worth I bought a new dual core iMac with (serial W860649YU2N with 1GB and 10.4.4) on Friday, did a migration from a working G4 mini. Everthhing worked fine except could not access a known good network either via ethernet or Airport reliably. At times the Airport conenction would work but very slow and saw some ethernet traffic via the Network utility but lots of errors.
I checked out some of the postings here and saw it was a common problem and then spent an hour on Applecare chat without success. I then did a complete re-install from the 10.4.4 DVDs that came with it and presto Airport was working perfectly but still no ethernet. Next I upgraded to 10.4.6 and now both interfaces appear to work perfectly. I think it was some bad configuration that came from the mini via the migration program. Hope my experience helps others.

Ok. I figured out the KNetworkManager problem. I somehow knocked myself out of the users group.
If anyone has any suggestions as to why the other swap and hal problems are occurring though it would be greatly appreciated.

More Strange Happenings

I have used Logic for over two years now. I have grown
very used to it, even the sometimes quirky behavior.
Lately I have been very suprised to see something
happening that baffles me. I have been working on
my keyboard recording midi and qudio when all of
a sudden the audio object stops working. After usually
about 5 minutes of checking the usual subjects, I would
go into the audio layer to find that my multi instrument
has been rewired to a different audio object. This is with
the protect cables and positioning enabled. I have had this
happen three times now. Tonight when I went to delete
the bad cable, a row of connectors appeared on the
multi probably at least 30 going down. I did not look
to see how far down they went, was not in a good mood.
Also I have had my the midi signal ignored by Logic. I
know the signal is good since I can see it on the transport
and I have a monitor in the clicks and ports. Both tell
me I have a good signal but when I try to record midi
nothing gets recorded. This has happened a couple of
times now. Very frustrating. The only thing I can do is
record audio or call it a night.
Anybody else seen anything like this. I would like to
think there is a way to stop it, though I kind of doubt it.

I tried it and unfortunately it did not work. I
even took out the whole layer like you did, still
am getting no midi recorded. The audio object
problem is solved for now. I started to think
logically (as much as this is possible) and thought
to check the Audio and Midi setup. I notice that
my keyboard had changed. It has 8 internal ports
that each have 16 channes. When I set this up it
was hilarious. As you add the ports and channels,
the thing gets longer and longer. The setup program
feels the need to show every port and channel
available. So I had this object with 128 channels
must have been a couple of feet long. Well,
when I checked, it now only had 4 ports and
2 channels on each port. Thinking this could
be a corrupt object I tried without success to
delete it. It would not highlight the delete
object while it was on. I turned it off, deleted
it and created a new one. When I turned the
keyboard back on, the corrupt object would
appear and I was back to square one. I was
so irritated I threw the whole app in the trash.
Thats right, I threw the Audio Midi setup in
the trash and emptied it. While I was at it
I deleted some of the digidesign stuff, since I
was no longer using their equipment. Well
OSX did not like that. Trying to reboot, I got
the circle with the line through it. Now I am
really irked. I did a reinstall of 10.4, reinstalled
ProAppRuntime ( I new it would come
in handy). Then back to Audio Midi setup only to
find that when I turned the keyboard on, that
corrupt object reappeard as if to say some taunting
remark. Since I never do anything halfway, it seems
that Logic cant find RMX now, So I guess I shot
myself in both feet. Well this has been good therapy
for me (the writing, not the troubleshooting), I am
guessing a reinstall of Logic is my next step, anyone
have any other suggestions?
I think I will have that drink now!

HT4589 FCPX 10.0.8 seems more unstable than 10.0.7; 3 blue screen crashes today just doing simple edits or "sharing" a project to .mov. Any ideas?

I tried to "share" a 3 minute project to the default Master File and I got a blue screen. I had exported the same project eariler in the day with no problem, but I also had 2 more bluescreens today while editing.

It could be anything but try trashing the preferences to start with.
Many weird things happen as a result of corrupt preferences which can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.

Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
1. Ensure that only FCP X is selected.
2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.
There is absolutely no danger in trashing preferences and you can do it as often as you like.
The preferences are kept separately from FCP X and if there aren't any when FCP X opens it automatically creates new ones . . . instantly.

Strange behavior on updating...

just a disclaimer.... I'm new to Workshop, total time I've been using it is about
two weeks...
I'm working with WLS 8.1 on Win2k. Some strange things happen during the day
while redeploying/updating the app. I have a simple pageflow that is retreiving
a list of data from my db and displaying it in a grid. The flow will work sometimes,
then if I update/repdeply from Workshop, it will fail.
If I restart or sometimes just change the jpf file, then redeploy it might work.
But if I'm just changin a jsp or css file... the error occurs.
Can I expect to just "update/repdeploy" all day while working in Workshop....
Or am I missing a step or two?

and start activities. I think you are right that when I experience unintended
effects in
workshop it is typically due to problems with deployments.
The question then remains what, in turn, causes these problems (incorrect deployment
by me
or by the system). By looking closer at the documentation and what actually happens
when
building, deploying and running applications, I can see that I have been (and
still is) a little
bit confused about exactly what is done under certain circumstances.
For instance, smart debugging only means that the current file is checked for
changes when
starting the debugger. Thus, if other files are updated, but not the current one,
the application
is apparently not rebuilt/redeployed. However, if the current file is changed,
there is a new
build and deployment, but based on the (short) time taken to perform this, it
does not look
like a total build (which takes much longer). Also, by looking in the console
during the
deployment, one can see that not all files are begin updated, as opposed to the
situation
when one performs a full build of the project or application. So, what happens
if both the current file and also other files are changed.
QUESTION: Are the changes on the other files taken into account, or ignored?
Another thing that might have caused confusion for me is that the application
is redployed automatically after a build, even if there were build errors. If
smart debugging afterwards entails that only part of the deployment is updated
then it is not clear to me that the result is sound. My conclusion is that a total
build should be done in this situation. In this connection I also wonder about
the following questions (that I have also posed in feedback to the online help
documentation):
QUESTION: is there any way to disable automatic deployment after a build?
QUESTION: is there any way to modify the behaviour so that the automatic deployment
only happens if there are no build errors? This would be nice, because deployment
takes quite long
time, and if it is known that the deployment is no good, it would be nice to avoind
it.
QUESTION: Is there any way to have only all changed files rebuild or redeployed,
instead of all (i.e. a generalization of smart-debugging to all changed files,
not just the current file).
QUESTION: you mention in your previous post that one might forget to build+deploy
after a clean. I did some experiments and also concluded that one must do this.
But what is the utility of the clean command then? Why not just do a redeploy
instead of clean+build+deploy?

Email is wonky today

My mail is acting very strange today both on my iphone and my mac. I have two accounts - gmail and roadrunner. The road runner account is not connecting to receive mail, although it is on line. The gmail account is not sending mail out either on the phone or mac.

Could you provide more details (such as any errors)? What do you see in the web interface?

Very Strange Email Occurances - Is it possible device is being hacked?

First of all I tried to check on similar occurrences by search prior to posting. Sorry if this issue has been addressed and I missed it.
Carrier: Verizon
Model info and OS version: Curve 8530 v5.0.0.973
The phone was purchased new in late August
Two seperate "strange" issues have been occuring which have been happening for the last week or so.
(1) One Poker Forum I belong to has repeatedly sent me a "lost password" email which you can request if you forget your password and they send you the current password
(2) I have gotten several "Welcome to Yahoo" messages on an account that I have had for almost 10 years.
What is even more strange to me, is that the Blackberry Device is receiving these email messages from two different yahoo accounts, AND these messages DO NOT show up when I check my email via my home computer (and I have not erased them in any way). All my other emails are showing up both on the phone and on my computer.
Note: I have four email accounts hooked to the Blackberry
Not sure if this is also connected to problem, but in the same timeframe I have had several "messages" with blank titles and the only information contained when I clicked that I can recall was something about my email address in small print at the top (I can not recall exact wording and somehow these messages are now gone)
Any Ideas?

Yep, it's been covered in the Forum many times. There is not a chance your BlackBerry has been hacked, there is no way for it to be hacked.
Your mystery poker emails... I don't know. You might ask that developer or site owner.
The other Yahoo emails, were they asking for account validation?

Mini displayport doesn't work any more

My Mini Displayport doesn't work any more with VGA, DVi, just with the Apple Cinema Display. It started one week ago, I've tried many different monitors, but it seems to be that it only works with the Apple Cinema Display, Thunderbolt Ethernet Adapter is also accepted but nothing else. PRAM, SMC, booting from an Harddisk with Mavericks (I'm on 10.10.2), Safe Mode, nothing works. I have a Macbook Air, 11 " from Mid 2013, no warranty any more. Today I was at Bense, a german reseller (thank you guys for your effort), they did the same tests and some more, but also found nothing. Is there anyone with the same problems and a solution for it?

Does it work on the other command key? I typically use the one to the left of the space bar, and at one point of time, it stopped working. but then i started to use the command key to the right of the keyboard which worked. but, then i started using the one that wasn't working, and just clicking slowly rather than quickly, and now it seems to work again. Don't know why . . . but that is what happened for me.
