More support for Designer PDFs on Mobile

Looking at the number of posts here, it is clear that LiveCycle Designer is a very popular application, though I am not sure whether Adobe senior management are aware of this fact.
Hardly surprising - little in the way of competition, and Adobe's own offerings - Acrobat XI and FormsCentral - just don't offer the same combination of ease of use and powerful form design features.
It is also clear that many, many people who are using LiveCycle Designer are not using it in connection with the LiveCycle server products - so cannot choose to render the form as Flash/HTML5 - they have to rely on the PDF format.
Why then is it so difficult for Adobe to produce a Reader on Mobile that supports Designer PDF forms? - as far as I can see, even if I save an ES3 form as a Static PDF, users are unable to complete it using the latest Adobe Reader on Android.
I'd actually say that non-server linked use of LiveCycle Designer has increased in the last couple of years - but this is not going to continue if there is no way to - easily - get the form usable in Adobe Reader on Mobile.
I don't think that Adobe realise that by seeding technology like this at the 'cubicle dweller' level (i.e. available to an individual geek/bright spark even if the company has not bought into the server technology) actually does often lead to the company making that 'big purchase'. In short, middle managers get to see some of the great work that Mike/Martha has been doing in his/her cubicle, and slowly but surely news of the efficiencies progress up the food chain until someone is convinced enough to sign off the big server purchase.
From past experience, Adobe have shown that they don't understand this way of marketing their technology - they seem to rely on glossy ads aimed at C level execs, ridiculously high entry-level prices and making these prices hard to even get hold of. Well, if that was such a bright idea, why have they made such slow progress with (and even scaled back) LiveCycle.
Some of the LiveCycle tech is really great - e.g. LC Rights Management and Barcoded Forms - and they should have gotten far more penetration out there.  If Adobe want LiveCycle to thrive, they need to change their ways.
And if anyone has a solution for Designer PDF forms on mobile (even static ones), please share. Thanks

  • Technical support for Designer?

    Open question for Adobe employees (I know you guys/gals read this - you are posting in other threads...): Who is providing technical support for Livecycle Designer?
    After moving from the Flex community to the Livecycle community I get the sense that a few of the supporting applications for Livecycle are suffering "abandonment" issues. The UI's feel very "last gen" and basic features just are missing or just dont work properly. Getting any sort of technical support or product development roadmap just seems to not exist. Integration with many aspects are just plain clunky (ever tried creating custom guides with Flex for Livecycle?)
    Is there any official response from Adobe on where this product is headed?  Developer Blogs? Anything?

    Who is providing technical support for Livecycle Designer?
    The official technical support for organizations paying for support is Adobe Customer Support. If your organization has a support contract with Adobe and you encounter product failures or bugs, contact support http://www.adobe.com/support/livecycle/ and open a service request.
    This forum and other user forums like it are the unofficial support vehicles for the user community to share their problems and solutions. Many Adobe employees and partners voluntarily monitor the forum and provide as much assistance as they can. Adobe employees are not required to contribute to the forum. They do so out of interest for the community and to enable those with less experience and knowledge to utilize the technology as it was intended. The same is true for many non-employees who actively support the forum.
    Is there any official response from Adobe on where this product is headed?
    If you have specific product concerns you should contact your Adobe sales representative or partner.

  • No more support for Tangent CP200 panels?

    Have Adobe decide to drop support for Tangent CP200 panels?
    The IP address configuration is no longer if preferences
    Why?
    Speedgrade was my only hope!
    Will I have to learn and buy Scratch then?

    The mappings are still there. I am looking at the tangent .xml file right now in speed grade, and it clearly says CP-200. The tangent.xml is a hidden file with in speedgrrade. Here is a section from that file.
    <!-- ********************* -->
      <!-- CP200-BK Trackerball  -->
      <!-- ********************* -->

  • Reports Sugestion - Data Template Support for Downloadable PDF Reports.

    This is something that I miss in APEX reports that I would like to see. Right now I have BI Publisher tied to my APEX install but there are reports I would like to move over but I hate the fact that APEX does not have the ability to use BI Publisher XML Data Templates! It seems like if you have the integration this would be a natural thing to have so you could use complex report and APEX security (as I found a few issues in BI Publisher that are deal killers for running a few of my newer reports directly on BIP). Most of my reports are too complex and would require extensive XPath coding to setup using RTF templates. This just seems like something that would be very useful in APEX.

    David:
    I should have a whitepaper on this subject by the end of the month.
    http://jastraub.blogspot.com/2008/12/more-changes-to-flexwsapi.html
    I know this doesn't help you right now so I will describe how it works. Create a Manual Web reference as described on Tyler's blog, except for the SOAP Envelope, using something like:
    <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:pub="http://xmlns.oracle.com/oxp/service/PublicReportService" xmlns:soapenc="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/">
    <soapenv:Header/>
    <soapenv:Body>
    <pub:runReport soapenv:encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/">
    <reportRequest xsi:type="pub:ReportRequest">
    <attributeFormat xsi:type="xsd:string">#P2_FORMAT#</attributeFormat>
    <parameterNameValues xsi:type="pub:ArrayOfParamNameValue" soapenc:arrayType="pub:ParamNameValue[]"/>
    <reportAbsolutePath xsi:type="xsd:string">#P2_ABS_PATH#</reportAbsolutePath>
    </reportRequest>
    <userID xsi:type="xsd:string">#APP_USER#</userID>
    <password xsi:type="xsd:string">#P101_PASSWORD#</password>
    </pub:runReport>
    </soapenv:Body>
    </soapenv:Envelope>
    You can hardcode format to pdf if that is all you wish to download. You can also hardcode the userID parameter, reportAbsolutePath, and the password parameter if you wish. Use something like DOWNLOAD_DOCUMENT as the collection name.
    Now create a page and create a before header process of type Web service that invokes this reference. The document's binary data will be stored in a node of an XML document in the collection encoded in base64 format. You will need another process that converts that to a BLOB and then presents a dialog to the browser to save the document. You can accomplish with a process like the following, after the call to the Web service:
    declare
    l_mime varchar2(48);
    l_name varchar2(4000);
    l_base64 clob;
    l_blob blob;
    l_size number;
    l_xml xmltype;
    l_ns varchar2(4000) default null;
    l_path varchar(255) default '//multiRef';
    begin
    l_mime := flex_ws_api.parse_response('DOWNLOAD_DOCUMENT',l_path||'/reportContentType/text()',l_ns);
    l_name := 'test.pdf';
    l_base64 := flex_ws_api.parse_response_clob('DOWNLOAD_DOCUMENT',l_path||'/reportBytes/text()',l_ns);
    l_blob := flex_ws_api.clobbase642blob(l_base64);
    l_size := dbms_lob.getlength(l_blob);
    htp.init;
    owa_util.mime_header( nvl(l_mime,'application/octet'), FALSE );
    htp.p('Content-length: '||l_size);
    htp.p('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="'||replace(replace(l_name,chr(10),null),chr(13),null)||'"');
    owa_util.http_header_close;
    wpg_docload.download_file( l_blob );
    apex_application.g_unrecoverable_error := true;
    end;
    I hope that helps. Stay tuned for the white paper and sample application.

    Jason

  • Need consultency support for design of RF screens for IM

  • ASC support for RFC 3957, with mobile IP

    Does anyone know which version of ACS software supports RFC 3957, with mobile IP.
    RB

    The "ip mobile secure" statement sets up encryption between devices specified. On the home-agent we configure an "ip mobile secure foreign-agent" with the foreign agent's IP address. Correspondingly, we configure an "ip mobile secure home-agent" statement on the foreign agent with the home agent's IP address. Also on the foreign agent we configure "ip mobile secure visitor" for secure tunneling between the router and the visitor's PC. The PC will need to have key generation software if this is used.

  • Please more support for the IPTC Headline tag!

    The use of the IPTC Headline tag (as opposed to the Title tag) is being discussed in posts back to 2007.
    Basically it's weird that Lightroom supports the Title tag with filters and search function whereas the Headline tag sees none of that treatment.
    Per definition the Headline tag
    "... is a brief, publishable synopsis or summary of the contents of the photograph. Like a news story's lead, the Headline should grab attention and summarize the image's content. Headlines must be succinct. Leave any supporting narrative for the Description field. Do not, however, confuse the Headline term with Title."
    whereas the Title tag
    "... can include a shorthand reference for the image or “photograph” - primarily for identification. The title of an image should be a short, human-readable name - text and/or numeric reference - and may take several forms. For photographers, this might be the filename of their original scan or digital camera file. For news organizations it might be the name of a story it accompanies. The Title term should not be confused with the Headline term, which is a short synopsis of the photograph's content."
    These definitions should make it fairly clear that the Headline tag needs at least the same tools treatment as the Title tag has.

  • Support for multiple pdf document with signature

    I have a question about signatures.
    Does the PDF specification support the combination of multiple pdf documents into one pdf document with the following constraint:
    - each individual pdf document has been signed (by an X.509 certificate),
    - the individual documents can come from different sources, so they have to be 'included' or merged into the final pdf,
    - the final pdf document should not change the signatures of the individual documents.
    So each part of the document should maintain the integrity of the individual components and the signature of the individual comnponents are still valid.
    Does the pdf specification support this feature?
    With kind regards,
    Ernst Jan

    What you want is called a PDF Package (or Portable Collection in the PDFRef) and is new in PDF 1.7. You can try it out with Acrobat 8.

  • Latvian Language support for generated PDF's with FPDF module for PHP

    Hello !
    I have a problem with Adobe Reader for Android. I am working with online PDF creation with PHP module named FPDF.
    With FPDF module for PHP you can create PDF's online.
    The problem is that - when generated PDF appears on phone it doesn't show Latvian language ( cp1257 or  ISO-8859-13 for example ). For example - "ŗķļņž" and "ŖĶĻŅŽ" is shown with other symbols.
    However opening the same file with standart app "Polaris Office" - the text is show as it used to be, without problem.
    Strange bug, that i can't fix from PHP ( Tried a lot of decodes and encodes ). Also i have saved PHP file with different encodings - nothing helped.

    You might ask about this in the regular forum. There are several form experts there that may be able to help you.

  • I'm on a MacBook pro .. how can FF be kept from crashing, freezing, being slow in general, and get more support for Plugins (which break every time I update)? Thanks in advance, I really do want to see FF regain the glory it once had!

    I've been using Firefox since version 1 and it's always been my #1 web browser of choice. Since version 4, Firefox has become my #3 browser of choice, behind Safari & Chrome. I would like FF to go back to being #1, because frankly FF 4 & FF 5 have been a royal pain in the a$$.
    Since FF 4, my SEO for Firefox plugin has not worked properly. Since FF 5, the Google Toolbar has not worked ... probably soon to have a fix, I'm sure.

    I just bought my first Mac, Macbook Pro 15in 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM, 320GB Serial ATA; 5400 rpm.
    I installed XP of a disk I had then used a Vista upgrade disk i had to install Vista. I noticed quickly that it was a 32bit version since it only recognized 3gb ram. I have been trolling the forums here and still have yet to get a straight answer on how to install vista 64 and have it actually work. So when what you are saying is I need a Mac Pro disk? Not the disk that came with my Macbook Pro to install all the drivers I need?
    James
    So it really depends. If you have an "early 2008" MBP as follows:
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
    Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.6 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 6 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B00
    SMC Version: 1.27f1
    Serial Number: xxxxxxxxxxx
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled
    Then the disk from an equivalent Mac Pro (needs to be of similar vintage) may help you. But if you have once of the newer models ("late 2008") this has an nVidia chipset in it and the drivers for that may not be on the Mac Pro.
    You'll need 64bit drivers for the nVidia chipset for this to work.
    A side note is that the EFI implementation on the "Early 2008" MPB might well be 32 bit, so it's debatable if you get the full advantage of 64bit Vista in terms of performance. It worked for me, but YMMV. In any case when Windows 7 ships, my Macs will mostly be in "Legacy" mode.

  • [SOLVED] WINE has no more support for xinput?

    Short version: WINE programs no longer have pressure sensitivity. Tablet works fine in non-WINE programs like GIMP.
    I hope this falls under multimedia because my Windows graphics programs (Artrage, Photoshop) don't have pressure sensitivity any more. I've checked with GIMP and Xournal, xinput works fine there, though they are drastically less sensitive than their Windows counterparts (unfortunately). Unless there's a patch that makes GIMP understand more than 256 levels of pressure, I think I'll stick to photoshop.
    Anyway, I was wondering if anyone out there is experiencing the same thing (I'm using a Wacom Tablet, though I do have that newish 12WX cintiq). I definitely was using Photoshop and Artrage through WINE perfectly before, pressure sensitivity and even tilt was great.
    But now, I have no idea what happened. Is there something wrong with the WINE configuration, you think? Or is it my best bet just to downgrade WINE or update the linuxwacom drivers (to the beta)?
    Thanks in advance,
    feminaexlux
    PS. WINE is 1.1.5, Linuxwacom is 8.0.3
    Last edited by feminaexlux (2008-09-27 22:30:00)

    Guess it was a wine bug. Compiled Wine 1.1.4 from source, and things are now working as they should.
    I hate regression!

  • No more support for flash 9, Argh! Actually 10.2, so ok....

    I know, confusing title, so let me explain. I was going to give Adobe both barrels about announcing that they were going to stop supporting flash 9. This being due to me still needing flash 9 because of 10.1 having jerky video playback in certain senarios, where flash 9 is smooth. I.E lower powered PC's without flash accelerating GPU's or HD video from websites that don't have flash 10.1 supporting video streams. Documented here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/782034
    But just after I saw the annoncement, I also saw that flash 10.2 was avaliable and have tried it out. And to my pleasure it looks like, in the senarios where 10.1 resulted in jerky video, 10.2 now gives smooth video in exaclty the same way flash 9 does. This is just from my initial testing of normally jerky senarios. But it looks like 10.2 has taken away all the reasons that I needed to keep flash 9 kicking around. So good job Adobe, please don't do updates in the future like 10.1 which were a step back in some cases....

    Hello, Well, what a refreshing post  Nice to see, I must say:-)

  • Why no more support for AppleScript?

    I am a graduate student, and I need to be able to cite sources easily. In the previous version of pages, I was able to use Papers2 to easily insert citations and build a bibliography. Now that function is no longer available. Until it returns, I will have to use word, as creating citations myself is a royal waste of time. Does Apple have any intention of bringing back this function?

    Who knows?
    Until they do why not go back to Pages '09 which is in your Applications/iWork folder and rate/review Pages 5 in the App Store.
