More than 3 breaks on report's columns?
Hello All,
Is it possible to have breaks on more than 3 columns? If yes, how? In addition, is it possible to have breaks on columns 1,2,3,5,6? (No break on column 4).

You can use breaks for up to three columns and they need to be the first three in your report. You can of course move any column into position 1, 2 or 3 on the reports attributes page. Breaks for more than three columns are not supported by the reports engine. You could use a PL/SQL region to generate your own break report, or you could use PL/SQL to write your data with breaks to a HTML DB collection first and then report of that collection.

How to exclude one or more than one member on report?

Hi all group members, I am working on BOXI R2. I have to ask that, How to exclude one or more than one member from the report. I know there is function of filter, through which we can see our desired members and other remaining will be excluded, but that's filter. In some of tools i have seen just do right click on a specific member and click on "Exclude" option to exclude the member. Suppose i have placed a Time dimension on the report and standing on "Month Level" which has data from 1, 2, ... 7,8, ... 11, 12 Now i just have to exclude member 7 from the report. If you run the report in "modify" mode, then you have two options
1) You can click on the "Show/Hide Filter Pane" button which opens up the "apply filter" pane. From there you go to your Data panel and grab, drag, and drop an item from the Data panel into the apply filter pane and provide a constant or select a value to filter in or out from your report.
2) You can highlight the column of data that you want to filter on, then click on the "Add Quick Filter" button. Using the List of Values menu you either select one or multiple items that you want to include in the report. -
Storing more than 2000 characters in a varchar2 column in Oracle 11g?
We have a table in Oracle 11g with a varchar2 column. We use a proprietary programming language where this column is defined as string. Maximum we can store 2000 characters (4000 bytes) in this column. Now the requirement is such that the column needs to store more than 2000 characters. The DBAs don't like BLOB, CLOB or LONG datatypes for maintenance reasons.
There are 2 solutions I can think of -
1. Remove this column from the original table and have a separate table for this column and then store each character in a row, in order to get more than 2000 characters. This table will be joined with the original table for queries.
2. If maximum I need is 8000 characters, can I just add 3 more columns so that I will have 4 columns with 2000 char each to get 8000 chars. So when the first column is full, values would be spilled over to the next column and so on.
Which one is a better and easier approach? Please suggest.Visu - Some people also do not like to use LOBs because of difficulty in reclaiming space and ever increasing LOB segments. Some of these problems were caused by Oracle bugs (eg, Bug 2944866 Free space in LOB table / tablespace not reused with ASSM, Bug 3019979 Space may not be reused efficiently in a LOB segment) - albeit in 9.2. I've seen a few bug reports for similar things in 10.2 (don't have the references). Still, if there is a workaround/patch is this reason enough to steer the application development into a new direction?

Problem printing more than 255 characters in report output and in the spool
Hi Guys,
I am trying to print one file in the report output and in the spool but it's priting till 255 characters only. If I try the samething while writing in application server and in peresentation server it is printing full content. I am giving the line size in the REPORT statement as more than 255 like 300 but even it is not printing. How can i print the full contents. Whether it is any basis related issue or in any settings can we do that. please advice.

URGENT: passing more than one value to Reports
Hello friends at www.oracle.com,
if I have a Forms program that sends some parameters to a Report, how can I send more than one value at the same parameter that is being sent?
For example: the Reports parameter P_CODE should receive (from Forms) and print the values 1, 2, 3 and 4, each one in a different page. But, only 4 is being printed, and these values aren't saved at a database, so I have to pass the other three values too. How can I solve this problem?
This is quite urgent and I need help on this.

How about sending the paramter value p_code='1,2,3,4'
and in Reports use lexical parameters (look at the online help on this).
Select .... Where Code in (&P_CODE)

How to display more than 12 numbers in one single column of excel
hi,
i lokesh, i am using gui_download for downloading excel sheet. actually during download one of my field contains 18 numbers, so in excel, in that particular column it shows as a 3.0000E18 and also for example: actually property number is 100000000000005263, it shows as a 1.0000E18, if i click on the 1.0000E+18, at the top it shows as a 10000000000000005000. it does not show last 3 numbers like 263.
what i want is during run time i want to display property number as a 100000000000005263 in one column.

You're using gui_download to create a file which you then have to import into Excel? If so, then you can format the field as 'Text' during the import process. The default cell-category is 'General', which will treat numeric values as numbers, causing the problem you describe.
If you do not want to give users this task, then one idea is to put some non-numeric character(s) into the cell, e.g. 'PN 100000000000005263' - where PN stands for property number. -
Safari 3.1.2 'unexpectedly' quits more than 3.1.1 (report attached)
So, after trying every fix here for 3.1.1 w/ no success and patiently waiting for 3.1.2 in hopes of fixes, and then repeating same after installing 3.1.2, I'm nearly computer-induced hari-kari. Today I've been given the boot four times, three of them trying to access info on iLife 08 via the store. I've cleared the cache, ditched .plists, restarted, and just got the boot again. Can somebody please help me out?!

More than one programs using report generator at the same time

I want to ask that how can I use Report Generator in two program at the same time.
As I am using Report Generator to log my data into excel, I find that if there are two
programs contain Report Generator, the program which ran first cannot find its
report.What can I do apart from alway open a new report?

Could you elaborate on what you mean when you say that the program which ran first cannot find its report? Are you trying to modify the same report simultaneously with these different apps?

More than one index for a column.
Hi,
I am trying to create more than one index for a particular column of the table.But oracle does not allow more than one index for a column.
I just want to make sure whether we can add more than one index for a column
and if yes what are the scenarios.
Because as far as i know some database allows more than one index for a single column.You cannot create more than one index for the same column(s).This is not so true Nicolas. Look at following example:
SQL> create index idx_mytest_id on mytest(id);
Index created.
SQL> create index idx_mytest_id_desc on mytest(id desc);
Index created.
SQL> create index idx_fbi_mytest_id_upper on mytest(upper(id));
Index created.
SQL> create index idx_fbi_mytest_id_upper_desc on mytest(upper(id) desc);
Index created.
SQL> create index idx_fbi_mytest_id_lower_id on mytest(lower(id));
Index created.
SQL> create index idx_fbi_mytest_id_lower_id_dsc on mytest(lower(id) desc);

Displaying more than one column in TreeControl

I have three tables ( LaborOperation, LaborIndex, LaborData). In TreeControl, i am displaying the following table columns,
LaborOperation ->operationid,
LaborIndex -> indexid,
LaborData -> date, value.
i want to be like this.
+ Operation Id(Single Column)
+ OperationIndex(Single Column)
-OperationData(Multiple Column)
I can able to display single column values in tree control by setting the nodedifinition property in tree control. i can't able to display more than one column in tree control.
any idea about this problem

How to display more than 60 columns in a report
I have a table defined as follows

now I want to display the data in a report as follows

the problem is that I can have more that 60 columns retrieved in each row, the pivot solution will retrieve them correctly but I can't display more than 60 columns in apex reports, why this restriction in apex, any solutionHello:

I have a requirement where I need to create a table layout with proper spacing for more than 30 columns and I asked this question in Open World XML Pub team and they responded to my question as "The page size in word has to be increased to allow to add those many columns". I was satisfied with the answer without knowing that Word will not allow more than 22" long in landscape. So, I am puzzled with the answer in Open World.
So, could somebody please give me guide lines to create this type of report for more than 30 Columns. This is very common requirement for us to report some of the stuff from the db.

Ram GWhat do you want your final destination format to be? I'm thinking you'll probably want to go out to HTML or Excel. I would think that would be the only place where you could read and use a report with more than 30 columns.
Here's an idea if you want to go to excel and if you are using the 10.1.3.2 Enterprise (standalone) version.
1. Create your query with as many columns as you want.
2. Don't create a layout at all
3. Launch Excel Analyzer.
4. From within Excel, build your report based off the downloaded data (for example add a pivot table).
5. Upload your excel Analyzer template back to the server
This template can now be scheduled and delivered like normal templates or updated with current data directly from within Excel. -
More than one column retrieved in "report and form" page

let's see if anybody can help me with this... i'm sure it's a stupid problem but i really don't know how to solve it.
when i create a new application with APEX, i want to add a "report and form" page. i select the table where de data is, and then click on add page. then i go to the page definition for the form that just has been created but there's no option for selecting more than one column as the link column...
i mean, i want to show a report with all the columns from the table and then, by selecting one of them, the form should display that column but the problem is that the primary key of the table is formed by 6 columns and i always receive the "more than one column retrieved" message as it's trying to retrieve the information using only one column. is there any way to make the link column be composed by 6 or 7 columns??APEX can handle 2 primary key for one table (if you are using the automated fetch row and the automated process row).
In your case, you'll have to create your own "fetch process (page rendering)" and "DML process (page processing)".

Reports with more than 100 columns
I am using Apex 3.2. I am using a classic report with more than 100 columns. So to use the custom heading in the report, I exported the page,did modification in exported sql file and imported back.
But when I am passing the parameters from a input screen for the first time either it is showing the all data avilable in the database or with only header. If I do the refresh in input screen and try it then it is working as intended. I am updating at the below loaction of the page.Let me know if I have to update anything more in the sql file.

Its just a general thought and I realize you know your application and user community better I do, but do you think your users are going to be very happy when they are presented with a report with more than a hundred columns? Have you considered maybe presenting the data in some sort of rolled up form from which the user can then drill down to the data they are particularly interested in. Also, I'm sure your LAN administrator would be happy not to see 100+ column by x number row reports being regularly shipped across the network.
Also, 100+ column reports suggests tables with 100+ columns which are probably not designed in a very relationally compliant way. I find that good DB design usually results in applications that have to make less compromises, such as hacking export files in order to fool the API into making ridiculous, unsupported and unsupportable compromises.
Just a thought..................
