More than one camera!

Hi Chaps. Use three new Macs. One at the office, one at home and a Laptop. All are new therefore camera and mic sorted. Use ichat and Skype a lot, especially if I'm away from home (I can talk to my family from overseas) Would like my home mac to have TWO cameras, one on the mac itself to talk to my family, the other wired in downstairs to the kitchen so we keep an eye on our daughter, maid, gardener etc... when we are on holiday. any ideas how to be able to swap cameras from a remote location and / or pan and tilt?

There are several Issues here.
With Two Cameras it is easy in iChat as the iChat > Preferences > Video Section gets an Extra drop down when a second camera is attached. So you can swap any time you want.
Next is controlling that camera remotely.
This is a little more complicated as You can not access the controls after starting a Video chat (even if the remote computer is set to Auto Accept Video Invites - there is a script to do this accessed in iChat > Preferences > Alerts and one of the tick boxes then drop downs) as you can not do Screen sharing through iChat at the same time.
Depending on how the remote (computer at home) is set to appear on the Net you go access the other form of Screen Sharing in the Finder > GO Menu > GO to Server and VNC in to it. This method has no audio feed and is just control of the Screen.
Then it would be a case of picking an App that would give you a view of the Video feed that was large enough. I have no experience if this can be then used with iChat and a Video chat. iMovie or Quicktime Pro may be the best option.
Another option would be to just set it to publish web Pic/stream with some like Evocam and pick that up with web browser.

How much control you have of a camera will depend on the camera and the Driver you can get for a Mac
so we keep an eye on our daughter, maid, gardener

If any one use JMF Studio it is known that any one can captre any device connected such as ( camera , mic,...) using JMFStudio..
I do the capturing very well but the problem i face it is HOW I CAN CONFIGURE MORE THAN ONE CAMERA AT THE JMF??
If i connect 2-cameras from different types ( sony , web cam) then the jmf registary will register the 2-cameras with only one difinition is( vfw:Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32):0 ) so when i use the java code to access the 2-cameras then i found only one difinition for one camera and i can access only one camera!!!!!!!!!
I don't know how i can solve this problem??

JMF cant detect more than one camera

hiiii to all
1 ) in my program that list all devices (webcams) connected to my DELL laptop ( windows xp2 ) and choose one to capture from
it detects only one cam that is embeded in my lap when i connected another cam
it lists only the embeded cam and not detect the external connected cam although i capture from it with my program on other pc
i tried also JMF registry to detect capture devices it also detect the embeded cam only
2 ) also i tried to run the program on another HP laptop (windows vista business) and cant detect any devices(audio,video)
Is JMF conflict with widows vista?
really need answer for these 2 questions

Can i have more than one camera hooked up with iphoto?

I'm new to macs(about a week), so please don't laugh. I have 2 cameras, one Canon(S1IS), and one new Nikon(D50). My question is, will I be creating a problem by associating both cameras with iphoto, or should I configure them separately using their own software? Thanks in advance for all your help and suggestions.

Hey there. WELCOME to the world of Macintosh. You are in for a great ride with this machine and platform.
Some good news for you regarding cameras. The neat thing about iPhoto, and indeed, the Mac, is that there is no setup required for hooking your camera to iPhoto. In fact, ANY camera you plug into the Macintosh that it recognizes will automatically work with iPhoto!
I regularly use three different cameras with my iPhoto application. As soon as I plug into the USB port and power on my camera, the Mac figures out that it needs to start up iPhoto. iPhoto figures out how to talk to the camera, and gives me the option to import pictures from the memory card... no configuration, no extra software to install. I do this with a Canon camera, and two different Sony models.
It's painless!

I don't know if the topic still matters, but as I took advantage from the information in the preview posts, I decided to give my share.
I successfully ran three webcameras at the same time in a Linux machine with JMF.
The two main issues are:
1. It is necessary to run the binary "jmfregistry" ($JMFHOME/bin/jmfregistry) to detect the cameras every time a new one is added to the system. (Remember to run the binary with a user with write privileges on the registry file ($JMFHOME/lig/jmf.properties)).
2. It is mandatory to plug each camera in a different usb bus. In my case, the PC I was using had three accessible two-ports buses, two in the rear and one in the front of the box. If we try to use two cameras in the same bus, one of them won't work or the detecting procedure in the "jmfregistry" program will hang.

How do i organize photos in chronological order from more than one import

I photographed an event using more than one camera. Therefore, I had to do more than one import. For some reason the photos are in chronological order based on the camera they were shot with. I have set the "view" to sort by "capture time, but for some reason it is not rearranging all of my selected photos to be in correct order. I synchronized the camera times before I began shooting to avoid discrepancies in timing. Please help this is killing me!

It is possible!
You can add multiple View Object to a ViewPlatform and you can add multiple ViewPlatforms to a BranchGroup. Hope it helps.

Multicam 2 cameras more than one 4 gb clip per camera

I am new to this forum and to premiere pro after having used final cut express for many years.
I have read several posts on this forum and other google search results to determine work flow for the following.
I video classical recitals with 2 identical cameras where one piece of music can exceed 16 minutes/4gb clip.
This is my workflow for do multicam/2 angles with more than one 4gb clip for each camera
Import clips
create Master sequence
create multicam sequence for each camera (2 total)
edit each multicam to determine which angles to use
nest each multicam sequence
copy nest of first 4 gb file into master sequence
copy nest of second 4 gb file into master sequence
rendered entire master sequence
This seemed to work fine for me except that there was a little overlap end of first 4 gb with beginning of second gb, I simply edited the overlap away.
Is there a "better" workflow for this?

I have a canon 70d. So you are saying that I should copy the entire card (EOS digital) which contains folders DCIM (100canon, eosmisc) and MISC to a FOLDER in the finder level of my imac?
Then when I bring the video clips in via media browser, I just choose the 4gb files from the same camera and import at once?

Can you view more than 9 cameras at one time using a WVC54GCA cameras? Current software only allows for a max of 9 cameras

With the Linksys Camera Utility you have a Limitation of viewing of only 9 cameras at a time. If you wish to view more then 9 camera then you can try to download the Camera viewing software which will do that work for you. In this case you need to Google around and you will find a Camera software which will solve your purpose.

Encore can't burn more than one DVD at a time: Sense Code 56400

For a long time now I've been unable to burn multiple DVD's at a time. I burn more than one and I get an error and have to make a coaster out of yet another DVD
I just upgraded to 24 gb of DDR3 PC 1600 RAM, I have an 6 Core Processor, I have 7.8 on everything accept my hard drive which is 7.0 out of 7.9 according to my Windows 7 Pro. 64 bit system.
I have 2 different DVD burners, one is a blu-ray burner too. I have the same issues, only different error readings it seems, on both drives. The first drive didn't burn even one for some reason so I tried the second. The second drive would burned 3 and on the fourth I got the errors' which I've included screen shots of below. I was surprised I got through three before I got to this error. By the end of the week I have a large project I need to make 30 DVD's of. HELP!!!!!
A long time ago on my older machine I had similar problems and I went through different drives and discs until I seemed to come up with the magic combination which seemed to be a Plextor burner and Verbatim. But, then i got a bad batch of verbatim and tried Maxell and used those successfully for a while. Right now I'm using what a friend gave me, TDK's. I'm wondering if that's what the problem is... HELP!!!!

I have managed to get it to work consistently now. I just burned 20 DVD's without a problem.
I tried everything you suggested except the imageburn software. I didn't like that site, I was too anxious to try and figure out where to download that software in the midst of all the advertisements on that site.
After clearing out everything in startup and services except what I needed I still wasn't able to burn successfully. Finally I went and purchased some Verbatim DVD-R discs and wahlah! Actually, after the first try with the verbatim I had an error code when trying to burn with Encore. So, I created and image file as you suggested and then I used Cyberlink's Power2Go to burn the image file and from there on it seems everything is solid.
I think the biggest problem was using TDK discs. I came to the realization a few years ago that certain disks are not as predictable as others and that verbatim and maxell seem to be the best. I did get one bad batch of verbatim though one time and that's when I switched to Maxell. My friend gave me 200 of the TDK's and I've been having problems ever since. But, I wasn't sure what it was exactly because he gave me those around the same time I rebuilt my system.
I had also found the Plextor seems to be the best bet for burners. But, I had been using an HP one lately and thought maybe that was the problem. However, now it seems to be fine.
I really don't know what fixed it. I mean, nothing definitely worked until I started using the Verbatim today. But, that first verbatim erroring perplexed me. I had done some other things too, like removed some programs, like a bunch of HP printer crap. I even removed my virus software, Window Security Essentials. I just reinstalled it so now I'm wondering if I can burn as consistently. I had seen somewhere where someone said they removed Windows' Defender to get theirs working.
Anyways, I guess what I need to do is format my main hard drive, only put adobe stuff on it, and then take my old computer set it up for everything else. That'll probably be the best thing to do... If I have anymore problems like this I'm doing that right away!

Photoshop can't open more than one graphic at a time without crashing

I get the error:
The instruction at "0x7c918af2" referenced memory at "0x00000010". The memory could not be "written".
Anytime I try to open more than one image in Photoshop at a time, regardless of how I do it - doesn't matter if I choose the image and "open in photoshop" or if I am in photoshop and go to "file/open".
It's Photoshop CS3. I have already uninstalled, restarted the computer and reinstalled. I tried to "repair/change" from Windows, but it asks for the CS3 cd and then CS4, which I don't have since I'm using CS3.
This is quite frustrating as it would be nice to be able to merge photos and the myriads of other things you can do with multiple images at once, if opening them does not crash your program.

how can I get more than one firewire port ? I'd like to be able to connect my canon HV30 camera as well as my firewire external HD at the same time so I can use firewire to upload the videos I've taken. Is this possible?

Many FireWire hard drives have 2 firewire ports so that you can daisy-chain devices and connect the camera that way.
Daisy-chaining is not the most reliable method, but it works, so you could buy a FireWire hub.
