More than one iPod with 1 computer

My dad and sister have both recieved an iPod for Christmas. They share a computer that has Windows XP home. We already have seperate user accounts for each person. My sister recieved her's first and installed iTunes under her account. Now that Dad's has come in, we can't figure out how to connect his iPod without downloading all of my sister's music. Do we need to install iTunes under Dad's user account? We definetly want to maintain seperate libraries for each!

If you get any message about "Another User", an "iPod Service Error" alert appears, or “Please reinstall iTunes" appears, turn off the 'Fast User Switching' - even if no one else is using the computer (Win XP environment).
==>Start=>Control Panel=>User Accounts=>Change the way users log on and off ==> Remove the check mark from FUS.

Not really sure what you are doing that this doesn't work...I have an iPhone, iPad and iPod all using the same email account without any conflicts.  Can you explain a littl about what you are trying to do that isn't being allowed?

  • Can I have more than one ipod with more than  music library on one computer

I was just wondering if i could have 2 different ipods (one a 5th generation and the other ipod touch) with 2 different music libraries on the same computer and itunes? because right now im using my parents computer and my fiance is using my laptop and we're moving so we'll only have one computer in the next few weeks. So if anyone could try to give me an answer or have a solution that would be fantastic lol!

See these articles about using more than one iPod on one computer, and with either one or more iTunes libraries.
    Multiple iPod installations.
How to use multiple iPods with one computer.
If you have the latest iTunes, an easy way to create a new library is to hold down the 'alt' key whilst opening iTunes (for Macs), or hold down the 'shift' key (for Windows).
This will give you the option of either using the current iTunes library or creating a new one.
There are various methods of transferring different songs to different iPods with a single iTunes library.
One is to manage the songs manually.
With this setting, you can drag and drop songs/playlists etc onto the iPod from iTunes, and also delete and/or edit songs which are currently on the iPod without affecting the iTunes library.
If you wish to keep the convenience of automatic sync, then you could set the iPods to sync with "selected playlists". This setting can be found in the iPod summary screen under the 'music' tab. With this setting, different playlists can be transferred and later deleted from each iPod without affecting any playlists stored in iTunes or the playlists on the other iPods.
Also, on the 'summary' main page you will see the option to "only sync checked items". With this setting selected, if you remove the check marks from any songs in iTunes, they will not be transferred to the iPod. You can restore the check mark if you want to put the songs back on the iPod at a later date.
Be aware that when playing songs in iTunes, any songs that do not have a check mark against them will be skipped over and will not be played.

  • More than one ipod on a computer

My household has 2 ipods - 1 x 30g and 1 x 80g. I use this computer for my ipod and the itunes store.
Can you sync more that one ipod to a computer? If not how do you do this without getting another computer?
    Thanks

If you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect the new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions. It will update from your existing library. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update all songs and playlists, selected playlists only or you can manage it manually.
If the iPods belong to different people, there are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library and or user account or
    b) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish):
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page:
Loading songs onto iPod shuffle - Windows
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library:
    Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here:

  • Can I use more than one iPod with one computer?

    Howdy,
I have a (hopefully) quick question. Can I use two iPods with one user account on one computer? Can iTunes keep two different iPods separate with different syncing rules for the same user account and iTunes library? I'm interested in the answer for both Mac and Windows machines.
    Thanks!

Can I use an ipod video and nano on the same computer?

Yes; see here for options on transferring different content to each iPod. The version of iTunes installed shouldn't be older than either iPod.

  • Use more than one ipod on a computer

I have an ipod shuffle and my little bro wants one as well, the question I have will our computer let us both use it for our ipods or will it just recognise mine any advice will be appreciated thanks

    Ashleigh,
With iTunes open, plug in your brother's Shuffle. It should appear in the Source List just like yours did. Give it a name (different than yours), and register it just like you did with your Shuffle. I suggest using the same USB port that works with your Shuffle, and NOT trying to connect both Shuffles at the same time.

My sister and I are sharing a computer. She already has ITunes uploaded with purchased music. I am using an ipod Mini, which my computer reads, but ITunes does not. Does it matter that we share one computer and one ITunes store? My ipod says "Do Not Disconnect", but never transfers songs or shows up in ITunes. Please help!

  • More than one iPod with more than one user

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before. I searched and can't find it.
I have an iPod Nano and my daughter has an iPod 30GB. We both had our own laptops which each had iTunes downloaded onto. Well, my daughter's laptop is no longer working.
Can I access her account for her on my computer without either of our music/videos getting mixed in with the others?
Is there a way to access two seperate iTune accounts seperatly?
    Does this make sense?
    TIA

Your post makes sense...I'm not sure the answer is going to please you...you can definitely access your daughter's account from your laptop....just sign into the iTunes store under her user name/password. Unfortunately...her purchases/library will not be accessible. This stuff needs to be saved somewhere. The good news is that your daughter can transfer the contents of her iPod back to a computer (probably yours--if you have hard disk space to save it). Here is one way to get the contents of your iPod back on a computer:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
This might help (but I'm not optimistic!):
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465
I feel for you...If you don't have backups of your daughter's library/purchases and you don't have hard disk space on your laptop to host her library via the transfer...you may need to invest in an external hard drive big enough that both of you can use it to save backup copies of your libraries!

  • Using more than one ipod on a computer!

Hi, can anyone tell me how to use 3 different ipods on one computer, each having different playlists? I have to keep deleting and re-installing to update! Its driving me mad!If i plug in my ipod and my daughters songs are in the library, it wipes all mine off and replaces it with all hers! Help! Now my son has one too!!

Well, its incredibly easy really. Read this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432
If you have Win XP, just make several user accounts with Admin priveleges and each user can have their own iTunes and iPod on each account. That is how my husband and I manage ours. We each have two iPods (i know, we're addicts) and we each have our own account where we manage our two iPods on each iTunes. Its really easy.

  • Setting up more than one Ipod on same computer

I have had an Ipod for a year. My wife just purchased one and wants to set it up on my computer. Can she use my same computer yet not use my Ipod downloads???

    See if this helps

  • Can you use more than one ipod with just one itunes?

Just wondering if it's ok to use 2 ipods from the same itunes?
Me and the wife have been sharing an ipod, but we've got one each now, so can we both just use the same itunes?

You bet---just be sure that each iPod has a unique name. typically they have Your Name's iPod, but you can have any name you like, just type it in when you connect it.
If you want to have different music on each iPod, then make a playlist of your own music and then open the Music tab when you connect your iPod and select the "synchronize playlist" (or something like that) instead of synchronizing the entire library. You'll see what I mean when you open the tab, it's pretty self-explanatory.
I have four iPods of various generations that I keep synched on the same computer.

  • Newbie question about using more than one Ipod on same computer

    Hi everyone,
I finally got into the Apple world this year with a new (16 GB) iPhone. Love it. I've now ordered a Nano as well. My question is: though I know that my iTunes will recognize the Nano as a different iPod, will I be able to transfer the music I purchased from iTunes store with my iPhone and iTunes to the Nano? If so, how?
    Thanks

will I be able to transfer the music I purchased from iTunes store with my iPhone and iTunes to the Nano?
Music currently in iTunes can be transferred to the iPod nano the same way it was transferred to the iPhone. Content on the iPhone needs to be transferred to iTunes first.
