More than one iPod with iTunes

I have an iPod classic for my car, I'm thinking of getting an iPod shuffle for when I go to the gym, and and I'm thinking of getting iPhone which also has an iPod feature in it. Can all of these be hooked up to my iTunes account? Can I pick and chose which songs go on which? I really hate DRM, and it's the one thing that frustrates me about the iTunes/iPod situation, and it makes simple things like this an issue... I hope there's a simple solution.

You can hook up as many iPods as you want, and Apple would love to sell them to you.

So don't buy DRM songs. Buy MP3s or physical CDs. You don't HAVE to buy from the itunes store.

Not really sure what you are doing that this doesn't work...I have an iPhone, iPad and iPod all using the same email account without any conflicts.  Can you explain a littl about what you are trying to do that isn't being allowed?

  • Can I have more than one ipod with more than  music library on one computer

I was just wondering if i could have 2 different ipods (one a 5th generation and the other ipod touch) with 2 different music libraries on the same computer and itunes? because right now im using my parents computer and my fiance is using my laptop and we're moving so we'll only have one computer in the next few weeks. So if anyone could try to give me an answer or have a solution that would be fantastic lol!

See these articles about using more than one iPod on one computer, and with either one or more iTunes libraries.
    Multiple iPod installations.
How to use multiple iPods with one computer.
If you have the latest iTunes, an easy way to create a new library is to hold down the 'alt' key whilst opening iTunes (for Macs), or hold down the 'shift' key (for Windows).
This will give you the option of either using the current iTunes library or creating a new one.
There are various methods of transferring different songs to different iPods with a single iTunes library.
One is to manage the songs manually.
With this setting, you can drag and drop songs/playlists etc onto the iPod from iTunes, and also delete and/or edit songs which are currently on the iPod without affecting the iTunes library.
If you wish to keep the convenience of automatic sync, then you could set the iPods to sync with "selected playlists". This setting can be found in the iPod summary screen under the 'music' tab. With this setting, different playlists can be transferred and later deleted from each iPod without affecting any playlists stored in iTunes or the playlists on the other iPods.
Also, on the 'summary' main page you will see the option to "only sync checked items". With this setting selected, if you remove the check marks from any songs in iTunes, they will not be transferred to the iPod. You can restore the check mark if you want to put the songs back on the iPod at a later date.
Be aware that when playing songs in iTunes, any songs that do not have a check mark against them will be skipped over and will not be played.

  • Can I use more than one iPod with one computer?

    Howdy,
I have a (hopefully) quick question. Can I use two iPods with one user account on one computer? Can iTunes keep two different iPods separate with different syncing rules for the same user account and iTunes library? I'm interested in the answer for both Mac and Windows machines.
    Thanks!

  • More than one iPod on iTunes?

I really need help with this one. I have iTunes that I use for my 40g but I was wanting to just do a small playlist and sync it to my new shuffle. I plugged the shuffle in and nothing. Do I have to download a new iTunes or will it work for me and do both?? Thank you for your help in advance.

    Couple of things ...
harrydavy is correct. Download the latest version of iTunes but also be sure your iPods are fully patched. To apply the patches, look for an "Update" button in iTunes 7 in the view that gives you a summary of your iPods (it's near the bottom of the iTunes main window). You have to check both iPods. It is important that your iPods and the instance of iTunes running on your PC be able to talk to each other the same way ... they can only do that if you fully patch everythng ... PC, Shuffle, and 40 gig. My guess is that your Shuffle needs a software update to cover an update of iTunes you may have installed.
Next thing is that this is so totally the wrong forum to post your question. This forum is specifically for those people who do site administration for Apple's iTunes U(niverity). You will probably get loads of good advice (way more than I can give) if you direct your question to the proper forum. I know that in Apple's support hierarchy, we're off in our own little category ... and it can look awfully tempting to post here ... but really, this is the wrong place.

  • Can you use more than one ipod with just one itunes?

Just wondering if it's ok to use 2 ipods from the same itunes?
Me and the wife have been sharing an ipod, but we've got one each now, so can we both just use the same itunes?

You bet---just be sure that each iPod has a unique name. typically they have Your Name's iPod, but you can have any name you like, just type it in when you connect it.
If you want to have different music on each iPod, then make a playlist of your own music and then open the Music tab when you connect your iPod and select the "synchronize playlist" (or something like that) instead of synchronizing the entire library. You'll see what I mean when you open the tab, it's pretty self-explanatory.
I have four iPods of various generations that I keep synched on the same computer.

  • More than one iPod with more than one user

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before. I searched and can't find it.
I have an iPod Nano and my daughter has an iPod 30GB. We both had our own laptops which each had iTunes downloaded onto. Well, my daughter's laptop is no longer working.
Can I access her account for her on my computer without either of our music/videos getting mixed in with the others?
Is there a way to access two seperate iTune accounts seperatly?
    Does this make sense?
    TIA

Your post makes sense...I'm not sure the answer is going to please you...you can definitely access your daughter's account from your laptop....just sign into the iTunes store under her user name/password. Unfortunately...her purchases/library will not be accessible. This stuff needs to be saved somewhere. The good news is that your daughter can transfer the contents of her iPod back to a computer (probably yours--if you have hard disk space to save it). Here is one way to get the contents of your iPod back on a computer:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
This might help (but I'm not optimistic!):
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465
I feel for you...If you don't have backups of your daughter's library/purchases and you don't have hard disk space on your laptop to host her library via the transfer...you may need to invest in an external hard drive big enough that both of you can use it to save backup copies of your libraries!

  • More than one iPod with 1 computer

My dad and sister have both recieved an iPod for Christmas. They share a computer that has Windows XP home. We already have seperate user accounts for each person. My sister recieved her's first and installed iTunes under her account. Now that Dad's has come in, we can't figure out how to connect his iPod without downloading all of my sister's music. Do we need to install iTunes under Dad's user account? We definetly want to maintain seperate libraries for each!

If you get any message about "Another User", an "iPod Service Error" alert appears, or “Please reinstall iTunes" appears, turn off the 'Fast User Switching' - even if no one else is using the computer (Win XP environment).

We have 3 people in our family who have 3 different types of iPods (shuffle, nano and touch), we all use the same iTunes.  Is this correct?  We are having issues with errors while trying to sync.  Does anyone know why?  Should all 3 of us have a seperate library/playlist?  Would appreciate all the help/assistance we can get!

Yes. You can sign into any account you like from itunes.
