More than one library on one laptop

I have an original itunes library for my nano and have just set up a new library for my son's nano. Now when I log on I automatically go to my son's library and can't locate my original library. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hold Shift and launch iTunes.
Select *Choose library* and select the iTunes library.itl file in the iTunes folder with your library.
I suggest rather than having separate libraries and selecting with Shift, create his his computer login. Anything he does will be in his own directories and your libraries won't get "mixed up".

  • Can more than one laptop use a wireless network at a time?

Hi...quick question and this may be a stupid one .. but a few months ago my uncle was living with us and had a laptop which had a wireless Internet connection. I had already had my Ibook set up and was using a wireless Internet connection. When he turned on his mine stopped working? Why was that happening? Also ... my dad is buying my mom a laptop for Xmas and I'm sure that it will have a wireless connection as well? I'm hoping that same thing will not happen again. Why would the wireless router only read one laptop in the same house? Aren't wireless routers suppose to read more than one computer? I just don't want my MAC to be unable to use the Internet once another laptop is in our house. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks a ton!

    Karen, welcome to the discussions.
Using a wireless router will enable you to connect upwards of 50 computers all at the same time and simultaniously.
Take care to read the set up procedure for the particular Wireless Router you are using for your Network.
There are several different ways to confiqure a wireless Network.
AS long as all of the computers you have, do in fact have wireless cards in them you shouldn't have a problem.
There is a difference in the set up for PC and a Mac.
There is also a difference in Wireless Routers and there capabilitys, some are for older wireless 802.11b compliant systems. Whereas the newer Routers or Base stations are for both older 802.11b and the newer 802.11g connections.
They will say 802.11b/g or something close.
Most will require you connect your Internet Service Providers Modem to the WAN Port of your choice of Wireless Router. Like I said follow the directions.
    Good Luck

  • Loss of connectivity of a wireless network when more than one laptop connects to the internet.

Hi,  I have a wired network of 20 computers controlled by a net gear wired router from a DSL modem. The router is plugged into a hub. I have a linksys router WRT54GX4 which is plugged into the hub to allow wireless internet access. The DHCP has been disabled on the wireless router. I have added three access points WAP54G which are plugged into the wired network in outer rooms to expand the wireless network. The wireless network works just fine with only one laptop connected to the internet but when two laptops connect they both lose connectivity. That is my problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? The IP address of the wired router is 192.168.2.1, the IP address of the wireless router is 192.168.2.3, the IP address of the access points are 192.168.2.245, 192.168.2.246, 192.168.2.247. All the devices are on channel 11. All have the same SSID. The default gateway on the access points is 192.168.2.1. It is an unsecured network. Please help.  Thanks   Peter Z

    Hi MnM Show,
Tim is correct, if you are using ISCSI Storage and using the network to get to it, it is recommended that the iSCSI Storage fabric have a dedicated and isolated network. This
network should be disabled for Cluster communications so that the network is dedicated to only storage related traffic.
This prevents intra-cluster communication as well as CSV traffic from flowing over same network. During the creation of the Cluster, ISCSI traffic will be detected and the network
will be disabled from Cluster use. This network should set to lowest in the binding order.

  • Can my photoshop subscription be used on more than one laptop at the same address

You can install on two computers for your own personal use; but not for use at the same time, and not for sharing with colleagues or family.

  • WRT54GX4 Router Will Not Connect to More Than One Computer at a Time Wireless

I have a WRT54GX4 and cannot connect wirelessly with more than one laptop at a time.  Each laptop I have will connect if I disconnect the other one.  I have upgraded to 1.00.20 firmware and tried to find a setting for the router to address the problem without success.

double check on the mac addresses that you have saved so that your wireless computers can connect properly to your netwok, or you could just disable the mac filtering so that all of your computers can easily connect, just secure your wireless network

  • XBox Live lagging when connecting more than one la...

I have the BT Home Hub 2.0 B and when I am on XBox Live with one laptop connected to the hub I have no problems but as soon as more than one laptop is connected I have terrible lagging - please can anyone give me any suggestions. I have the UPnp set to ON and the XBox IP Address is set to always use this IP address on the hub.

    Hi Stevemc5267,
It sounds to me like you are putting too much demand on your connection. With three devices attached they are all fighting for bandwidth therefore the speed left over for your Xbox live falls causing lag.
I would guess you are on the up to 8Mbps package. However if this is not the case post your hub stats from http://bthomehub.home and run a test via www.speedtester.bt.com and let us see the results.
    Thx

  • Can I have more than one ipod with more than  music library on one computer

I was just wondering if i could have 2 different ipods (one a 5th generation and the other ipod touch) with 2 different music libraries on the same computer and itunes? because right now im using my parents computer and my fiance is using my laptop and we're moving so we'll only have one computer in the next few weeks. So if anyone could try to give me an answer or have a solution that would be fantastic lol!

See these articles about using more than one iPod on one computer, and with either one or more iTunes libraries.
    Multiple iPod installations.
How to use multiple iPods with one computer.
If you have the latest iTunes, an easy way to create a new library is to hold down the 'alt' key whilst opening iTunes (for Macs), or hold down the 'shift' key (for Windows).
This will give you the option of either using the current iTunes library or creating a new one.
There are various methods of transferring different songs to different iPods with a single iTunes library.
One is to manage the songs manually.
With this setting, you can drag and drop songs/playlists etc onto the iPod from iTunes, and also delete and/or edit songs which are currently on the iPod without affecting the iTunes library.
If you wish to keep the convenience of automatic sync, then you could set the iPods to sync with "selected playlists". This setting can be found in the iPod summary screen under the 'music' tab. With this setting, different playlists can be transferred and later deleted from each iPod without affecting any playlists stored in iTunes or the playlists on the other iPods.
Also, on the 'summary' main page you will see the option to "only sync checked items". With this setting selected, if you remove the check marks from any songs in iTunes, they will not be transferred to the iPod. You can restore the check mark if you want to put the songs back on the iPod at a later date.
Be aware that when playing songs in iTunes, any songs that do not have a check mark against them will be skipped over and will not be played.

  • Can't sync to more than one library at a time

I have deauthorised my desktop running XP,installed latest version of iTunes on laptop running Vista and authorised. Connected iPod to laptop and tried to sync but keep getting message that "iPod is already synced to a library and cannot be synced to more than one library at a time." How do I get my library from desktop to laptop?

*How do I get my library from desktop to laptop?*
If our iPod is large enough to hold all of your iTunes it can be used as an external drive and you can move the iTunes folder from the old computer onto it and transfer everything to the new computer: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
Alternatively you can copy the contents of the iPod directly to the new computer. Connect your iPod to your new computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible - Windows version only)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

  • If I have more than one library, how can I upload all photos to iCloud??

I have a couple of different iPhoto libraries. Now that I've upgraded to photos, I am using iCloud and it is currently uploading all the photos & videos from the library Initally opened. How can I upload the other libraries into iCloud?  Will they automatically upload once I use the option key and open the different library??
Also, does Photos need to be running for things to upload to iCloud?
    Thanks!
    Kristin

See the quote below from Designate a System Photo Library in Photos - Apple Support
iCloud and the System Photo Library
You can use iCloud Photo Library, iCloud Photo Sharing, and My Photo Stream only with the System Photo Library. If you choose a different library in Photos without designating it as the System Photo Library, the iCloud tab in Photos preferences is disabled:
If you designate a new library as the System Photo Library and then turn on iCloud Photo Library, the photos and videos in the new library will merge with those already in your iCloud Photo Library. If you want to keep the contents of your photo libraries separate, don’t turn on iCloud Photo Library for more than one library in Photos.

  • Can more than one ipod use an itunes library

Sorry for the newbe qestion but I need some advice for my daughters ipod. I have two libraries on two different computers. how do i set the itunes to manual sync. Can I also sync different ipods, we have several.
    thx

*I have two libraries on two different computers. how do i set the itunes to manual sync*
You don't set iTunes to manual, you set the iPod. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
*Can I also sync different ipods, we have several*
There are a few different ways to use multiple iPods with one computer. However if the iPods are also being used with multiple computers then you'll be using the manual method regardless and not any form of auto-sync. Have a look at this help page for all the suggestions: How to use multiple iPods with one computer

  • Can I create more than one instance of a native library?

    Hello all,
I am using Java to access a Win32 DLL with JNI. Everything is working fine, but I have several threads using the same instance of the native library because it is loaded "statically" in the Java class which uses it, and I suspect I am getting a bottle-neck at the native library.
Does anyone know if there is any way to load more than one "instance" of a native library?
The use of System.loadLibrary() would indicate not, and my (limited) knowledge of the Windows environment would tell me that a "shared" library only has on instance. (confirm anyone?)
I need to find a way around this bottle-neck issue... (and "no", before anyone suggests it, I can't ditch Windows!)
    Thanks.

I am not sure about the behaviour of the dll as it's not mine. It's a COM DLL which I have "wrapped" in a standard windows DLL so I can expose the JNI methods. I assume because it's COM that it IS reentrant, but I am a bit of a novice when it comes to Windows and COM. I didn't install the COMponent either, it was installed as part of another application. (It's an antivirus COM dll that is part of an AV application)
Thanks for your help though, I think I will just have to live with it.

  • Sharing more than one iTunes library with one iPod

    Hi.
I've tho Mac connected together. I've two different libraries, one for ech one. Well, I'd like to charge my iPod with songs from the two libraries. How can I proceed? I've tried to share the libraries, I can listen to the tracks but no way to transfer to the iPod.

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one library or computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. • More than one library (on the same computer) open?

In the new iTunes 9 it is possible to access several libraries on my home network from the open iTunes window, which is really cool. I wondered if this means it may now be possible to have access to several libraries on the same computer (or connected drives) at the same time. I use 3 different libraries on my work PC and my mac at home and the process of shutting down iTunes, holding down shift/option, reopening itunes, selecting library is rather cumbersome. Having each of the libraries accessible the same way they are for other libraries on the network would be really useful.
    Is it possible?

I know it's Valentine's Day, but before you get your wife fixed up the first thing you need to do is recover the deleted albums for your own library.  See if the files are elsewhere on your hard drive, or in the Recycle Bin.  When you find them, get them back into your own library.  Now you are ready to help your wife.
As noted above, you can have two libraries in one Windows user account via the Shift-Start approach, but if you both use your libraries regularly, that becomes annoying quickly.  It is better to set her up with her own Windows user account. She can have her own iTunes library there.
Get a copy of your entire iTunes folder to start her off.  She can delete stuff she doesn't want without messing you up.

    Create a concatenated disk set
Increase storage space with a concatenated RAID set (also called “Just a Bunch of Disks” or JBOD). If you need one large disk, but you have only several smaller disks, you can create a concatenated disk set to use several small disks as one large disk.
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in Launchpad.
Select one of the disks that you want in the set, and then click RAID.
Click Add (+), and type a name for the RAID set.
Choose a format from the Format pop-up menu. Usually you’ll choose the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format.
Choose Concatenated Disk Set from the RAID Type pop-up menu.
Drag the disks you want to add to the set to the list on the right.
    Click Create.
    Exerpt from:
Disk Utility 12.x: Create a RAID set - Apple - Support
Note that the biggest CON to concatenated RAID configurations is vulnerability to volume failure. If either disk fails, the whole volume fails. If you choose this option, I would highly recommend backing up your music to a cloud service. There are very cheap per GB/storage, and some of the most reputable actually offer unlimited storage:
