More troubles transferring Droid photos to Mac

I had this problem last fall where I connected my droid to my Mac via USB and no icon appeared on the screen.  Thanks to some good advice here which said to go to Settings>Applications>Development>check USB debugging, I got the "No Name" icon to appear on the screen.  I then had no problem transferring my droid photos to iPhoto.
But today, now no icon appears on the screen again.   I checked "USB debugging" as before and it didn't work.   I also remembered a bit of advice about Settings>Connectivity>Default connection mode>Choose Mass storage.   I did that and still no luck.
I am simply trying to get the droid icon to appear on my Mac screen.  It has done this for the better part of a year but suddenly it stopped.   The only thing that may be affecting it is that I ran out of memory due to filming too much video.   Obviously I want to transfer the vids and photos to my Mac and then deleter them from my droid in order to free up more memory.
Anyone out there have any more ideas for me?  Thanks.

Hi James, try this for a start...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot.
Check Finder>Preferences>General & Sidbar tabs, what all is checked there?

  • Trouble emailing from Photos for Mac

I'm having trouble mailing photos from Photos for Mac. When I go to the share icon Mail doesn't appear as an option as it did in iPhoto. Am I missing something?

Try this: Open Apple Mail and in the Mail application, select Preferences and then make sure that Mail is shown as your default email reader:
This should enable the Share option in Photos to find your Apple Mail email application.  If you're not using Apple's Mail application, but are instead using MS Outlook, then you'll need to employ a work-around for emailing photos from Photos, as described here:

Thanks - worked like a charm! I wonder why the manual doesn't say anything about downloading images? I tried connecting wit bluetooth to try a file transfer, but got messages saying that my phone wasn't capable of any services. Any ideas? I made the phone "discoverable" and tried to set it up under the Bluetooh menu, but finally gave up.

  • Trouble transfering photo files (DNG) from one Mac to another

I have a Mac G4 ibook (1.2 Ghz, 768 RAM, OS 10.4.9) and a new Mac Quad tower (2.66gHZ, 3Gb Ram, and OS 10.4.10). Both computers can import photof iles from my compact flash card via a card reader, but the old iBook of course takes longer. I import via Adobe Bridge and convert from Canon CR2 to DNG files. When I travel, I take my iBook and save my hundreds of photos to it. I am having big trouble copying the photos from my iBook to my Quad. I activate file sharing (via Airport) and drag the file containing the photos from the iBook to my desktop on the Quad. The process always starts fine, transfers a number of photos, but then stalls out. I have to figure out which photo it stalls on, delete it from the ibook, and start over. Downloading hundreds of photos becomes an arduous task because it stalls out so many times.
Any suggestions about how to fix this problem? Does it have anything to do with one computer being Intel based and the other not? Any suggestions?

An Airport connection may not be the best way to transfer the volume of information that you are dealing with. I suggest that you use a Firewire cable to connect the two computers and start up the iBook in Firewire Target Disk Mode. Just hold down the "t" key during startup. The iBook will appear as a mounted disk on you desktop. You can then move the files you need to your other machine. The data transfer rate will be much higher and more reliable.

  • IPAD2 since yesterday seems to have stopped allowing transfers of photos from anything other than another Apple product and comes up with the message2 itunes will no longer sync photos....which are not transferred from a Mac? Looks as if there is a prob

IPAD2 since yesterday seems to have stopped transfers of photos from non Mac equipment. I use dell with ITunes cloud facility.
Any ideas or are we to await Mac correcting the software?

Okay, can someone please give a useful answer? Thanks! I have been experiencing exactly the same problem for some time now, and it is very annoying. Furthermore, I would like to point out to Chris CA that there is absolutely nothing ambiguous about the original post.
So here is the deal. I used to be able to burn CDs with iTunes that played back fine on both my car and home stereo. After some update, and I am very sorry but I really do not remember which one, as I am just a user and not a programmer and just want something that works, which in the end Apple used to be all about, and therefore do not keep track of all the updates, CDs won't play back on my car stereo. Nothing else changed, still the same brand of CDs (even the same stack!), still the same car stereo, and still the same 2007 MBP. So by simple deduction I conclude it must be a software update. And I do not care what the exact cause is, I just want a fix!
I'd like to apologize for my tone in the above, but it is just a very annoying problem, even more so because it seems nothing is being done about it. Thanks for your answer in advance!

  • Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?    Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?

I have 2 questions about the new Photos app for Mac (I'm running 10.10.3 on my MacBook Air 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 mid 2012)):
1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.

1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
You can, but I would wait, until you have have been working with Photos for some time and are sure, that everything migrated well. There may be hidden flaws in your library and teething problems with Photos. Don't be in a hurry to abandon iPhoto completely. You may need to go back, until bugs have been fixed.  Th Photos Library does not duplicate the photos in your iPhoto Library. the media files are shared and do not need extra space: See:  Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.
If you have enough iCloud storage.  But Photos will still need space for local thumbnails on all devices.
See:  Apple - OS X - Photos Preview
Fill your library, not your device.
iCloud Photo Library can help you make the most of the space on your Mac. When you choose “Optimize Mac Storage,” all your full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud in their original formats, with storage-saving versions kept on your Mac as space is needed. You can also optimize storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, so you can access more photos and videos than ever before. You get 5GB of free storage in iCloud — and as your library grows, you have the option to choose a plan for up to 1TB.

  • Still having troubles transferring fotos from droid to iMac Intel

I have an LG Optimus Elite Android phone (version 2.3.7) and in the past, have been able to hook it up to my iMac Desktop and transfer the phone's photos to the iPhoto on my Mac.
Occasionally I've encountered troubles, but somehow I've always gotten it to work--thanks to advice I've received here.   In the past few days, however, it has not worked.
I've done all the things that have been suggested in the past--check Mass Storage, check USB debugging, etc.   But I still cannot get the Android icon to appear on my desktop.
When things go according to plan, it looks like this:  1) I hook my Droid to my Mac; 2) the Droid icon appears on my desktop; and 3) iPhoto automatically opens and begins downloading all the photos from the phone.  But after I do 1 now, neither 2 nor 3 happen.
    Can anyone help?  Thanks!

    I figured it out.

I am feeling so ripped off right now. I have wanted a Mac for years and believed the hype about it's stability and I have had more trouble with this Imac 2011 than I have ever had with a pc. It locks up with several software products from APP store. I have already had to have a technician to look at it and really couldn't figure out what the deal was.  I was told that the APP store software should give me no problems but the truth is that it locks up on the software. This machine is only 4 weeks old and I am using 37 g on a 1 T hard drive. There is no reason for it to be locking up. Also, when I try to use the help program, it always tells me that I am not connected to the internet even though I have used both the mail program and the browser with no problem just before that. I successfully used the help program on my pc lots of times. I did not need a $2000. plus machine to just get email. I just wanted to unload on somebody that might understand my pain and after checking out this site...I think there is a few of you out there.

I was told that the APP store software should give me no problems but the truth is that it locks up on the software.
The apps downloaded from the Mac App Store are written by third party developers, not Apple. If you have problems  with those apps you need to visit the support area for their websites. Launch the App Store, locate the app name. You should see a support link.
when I try to use the help program, it always tells me that I am not connected to the internet even though I have used both the mail program and the browser with no problem just before that
Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.helpviewer.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash. Restart your Mac, try the Help menu.
If you need help finding that file, hold down the Finder icon in the Dock then click: New Finder Window. From the menu bar top of your screen click: Go > Go to Folder. Type this in exactly as you see it here:   ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist    That will take you right to that file.
(.plist) files stores information about a particular app or in this case, the Help viewer. Often times deleting the .plist file resolves the issue.
It's fine to "unload"... we understand that you expect your iMac to be stable but there are times when things go awry. That's why we have these forums so that you can you get help.

  • I'm getting a message that my iCloud storage is almost full (5.0 GB, 186 mb remaining).  I have transferred all photos from iPad and iPhone to Mac.  I've deleted all but 200 photos on each of these devices.  Data storage is still same.

I have transferred all photos from iPad and iPhone to Mac.  I have deleted almost all photos from both (about 200 remaining on each).  I do not store tunes or videos.  After making these changes, I still have the same message in iCloud.

Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage > Select your device (listed as 'This iPhone' or 'This iPad') then look at the next backup size.  Compare the 'Next Backup Size' to the 'Backup Size' on taht same screen.  If the next backup size is smaller, then you have successfully removed some content from your device.
Now the question still lingers as to why your iCloud is still showing so full right?  Well, iCloud keeps the last 3 backups from each device.  It doesn't duplicate them, but it uses an incremental backup system.  So basically your device's backup will take up as much space on iCloud as the largest backup of the last 3 backups.  With that being said, your iPhone and ipad will eventually shrink the size of your backup (if that next backup size is smaller) in about 3 days (3 backups assuming your iOS devices backup once as day when you are sleeping).
Can I expedite this?  Well of course you can.  If you want, you can Delete the backup from both of the devices via that same screen then go back to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup, turn iCloud Backups back on, then backup now.  Keep in mind that if you do this, it will clear out your last 3 backups (and cannot be undone), but it may also take a long while for your iPhone and iPad to complete that inital backup after deleting the old backups.
I hope this helps. (My Recommendation: Basically check what's in paragraph one, then it will works itself out in a few days.)

Having trouble transferring photos frm iPad to PC. Have done it before using lightening to USB but sine update to iOS7 it says there are no photos

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • Trouble transferring photos from PC to iMac with OS Lion

The Apple store transferred my photos from my PC (with Vista OS) to my new iMac (with OS Lion), but the transfer wasn't successful.  Apple care is trying to help, but thousands of my PC photos are not showing up in iPhoto.  I have never used a Mac before.  So everything is new to me.

Welcome to the Mac platform.  If they transferred all the photos were you able to see them in iPhoto at the Apple store?  You can migrate your data from you PC by following the information on this link, http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/  Also after you get that problem solved take a look at this link, http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/

  • HT204053 I am having trouble setting up icloud on MAC. In system preference it is listed as mobile me, it asks for member name and password. It also has a learn more button under "try mobileme for free". I am not getting anywhere

I am having trouble setting up icloud on MAC. In system preference it is listed as mobile me, it asks for member name and password. It also has a learn more button under "try mobileme for free". I am not getting anywhere

It's evident that you are using Snow Leopard or earlier (or very early Lion) since you have the now obsolete MobileMe preference pane.
The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mountain Lion preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
If you are running Leopard on an Intel Mac you will have to upgrade to Snow Leopard to access the Mac App Store - it's available in the online Apple Store. However if you have a PPC Mac you cannot run Snow Leopard and cannot proceed further.
