Morningstar mobile app on Torch 9810

After over a month of callikng Morningstar.com, they finally admit that they will NOT be attempting to fix their mobile app for the Torch 9810.  They claim it's an OS 7 problem with RIM.
HELP!  I'm a stockbroker, and rely heavily on that mobile app to track my clients' positions.
Problems:  Can get market quote.  Cannot log on.  Get a "connection failed" message.  If I can log on (rarely) I get one stock quote, then it freezes.  Portfolios's columns do not line up with ticker symbols.
I have deleted, reinstalled, and rebooted 4 separate times, so please don't suggest that.  Can anyone at RIM help, please?
Don't make me get an iPhone!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
First off -- to set your expectation re your question for help from RIM. This site has nothing to do with any formal support from, escalation to, nor communication with RIM for any purpose whatsoever. This site is a user-to-user community of volunteers who try and help each other out as best they can. So, the answer to that question is no -- not by virtue of posting here.
The responsibility for apps rests with the app developers...it is fascinating that Morningstar has chosen to blame OS7...sorry, but I sense an "excuse" rather than any rational reasons in that. There are tons of apps that have all been ported to OS7 just fine...
In any event, for your situation, your only option would I guess to be to fall back to an OS level that the app indeed is compatible. Before you pursue that, though, get Morningstar to tell you the EXACT OS levels (4 octets) that you need in order to ensure proper compatibility with their app. Then, you can seek those out and install them to your BB via this process:
Before you start, you may want to be sure you have a solid backup from which to restore (just in case)...refer to this:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/General-BlackBerry-Functions-and/Backup-the-data-on-your-Blac...
Also, if you are on BES, you will need to work with your BES admins for everything...they may or may not allow certain OS levels, and you need to ensure that your BB re-activates properly to BES.
Atthetopofeachdeviceforum, thereshouldbesome "sticky" threadsthatdiscusstheOSlevelsavailableformanymodels. Iftheyincludeyourmodel, thenpleaseusethoseasreferenceasyouproceed. Otherwise, youwillhavetodigthroughtheofficialdownloadportalforOSpackagesforyourmodel:
http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • Not able to download apps to my BlackBerry Torch 9810

Hi everyone.  New BB user here.  Just picked up a BB Torch 9810.  Set up my BlackBerry ID and have no problem accessing pretty much everything - except App World.  When I attempt to download an app or go to the My World tab I get a legal notice regarding "BlackBerry App World and BlackBerry Payment Service..."  When I accept the agreement, nothing happens.  Won't let me download the app I've selected, just goes right back to the app description.  I try clicking on the My World tab and no matter how many times I accept the agreement it won't let me do anything; just keeps asking me to accept the agreement again.  I've already tried uninstalling and redownloading App World, yet I continue to get the error.
I like the phone but without the ability to download apps it's fairly useless to me.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

  • App Error 204 - Reset' (BB Torch 9810)

    Helloo..
I have been trying to resolve this error but no luck
There's an error 'App Error 204 - Reset' appearing with whole white screen all of a sudden. I cannot access my phone as I click on Reset it reboots automatically and then shows the same error screen. I have restarted several times, taken out the battery and even rebooted (alt+ctrl+del) but no use.
Please help  me out the phone has stopped working and i'm not sure what the reason is. I don't remember my pin but i can provide you with my cell model number - Blackberry Torch 9810.
    Please please

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I've never seen a 204, and find no documentation about it. So, I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Free Apps that came with Blackberry Torch 9810

I just bought the BB Torch 9810 recently and there were some apps already installed on it. Two of the already installed apps were Bejeweled and Telenav. Telenav had to be fully downlaoded, but was a free version. After I connected my phone to Blackberry Desktop Manager, both of these apps disappeared. I was unable to recover either. The Telenav icon was still on the homescreen, but when after downloading it like before, it asked my to buy the app in order to be able to use it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling again to see if that was the problem, but it continued to ask me to buy it in order to use it. How do I recover apps that came already installed on the device when I purchased it?

Many apps that are "installed" on your phone when you first get it actually aren't installed apps at all, but rather they're shortcuts to the download site to get the app.  This is the case with facebook, to name one.  Many people don't understand why their facebook apps don't work at first; it's because there's no app there to work.  I believe Bejeweled could be pre-installed, sometimes games are.  However, Telenav (which is a paid app) would not have been fully installed on your phone and therefore you really haven't lost anything.
I hope I've been helpful to you.

PLEASE help me....

    Hi jakeloveslucy
Thanks for your feedback. However, just to clarify: my iTunes Library is not stored on my TC itself, yet on a separate HD that is USB'd to the TC.
Also I wonder where it's stated that a iTunes Library is 'meant' to be stored locally.

  • Torch 9810 WIFI defect

    Hi,
I am posting to seek solutions to my Blackberry Torch 9810 WIFI connectivity problem. I am a customer based in Malaysia; my carrier is DIGI. Software Version is 7.0 Bundle 1345 (v7.0.0.261, Platform 5.0.0.464).
My Blackberry Torch 9810 WIFI has never worked since I bought it. I have tried to connect it to my home wifi network and other major Public hotspot but none of them worked. However, when I checked the wifi status of my phone, it said my phone is connected to the wifi, with the wifi signal on but without Blackberry icon next to it.
    Thank you.
    Kind Regards,
    Samantha Ng

Hi and Welcome to the Community!!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then should contact your mobile service provider for formal support...indeed, there are a few reports in the world of some carriers blocking BIS access via WiFi and forcing their customers to use only their mobile data network for BIS-level services.
    Good luck!

  • TMO Torch 9810 reboots on WiFi calling access

As of yesterday, my new (May) T-Mobile Torch 9810 is rebooting continually when WiFi is on. The 9810 reboots spontaneously the moment it connects to UMA (WiFi calling) over WiFi (a T-Mobile only feature). I've been using UMA forever, have not recently made any changes to the unit, or my network or router. When I turn WiFi off, the Torch works normally. It started doing this after I did my customary daily three finger salute restart. Anyone seen this before? I have not yet called technical support.
I can find some references to spontaneous reboots both here and at the T-Mobile support site, so I have reinstalled the operating system twice (latest update, 7.1 Bundle 998), replaced the micro-SD card, wiped the handset, reverted to OS 7.0 Bundle 1948 (which does not have UMA, and has no problem accessing WiFi) then re-upgraded to 7.1 Bundle 998 (which does have UMA), but it is still rebooting like crazy when UMA is accessed. Never seen this before, I've been using UMA since 2007, before the Torch I had a 9700. My other handsets (Nokia and Samsung, both with UMA) have no problem. Anybody?

I have just noticed the same thing.  I first noticed it last night when my device spontaneously rebooted.  When it came back to life it rebooted again.  I had just installed an updated version of an app and I thought maybe it was related to that.  The device came back up the second time and was fine so I didn't give another thought.
However, today I was on wifi calling all day.  I noticed it dropped off this evening so I cycled the wifi off and back on.  When it tried to reconnect it rebooted.  It continuously rebooted every time it tried connecting to wifi calling even in safe mode.  The only thing I could do was unplug my router so that I could have enough time to access the Mobile Network settings and set the device back to Mobile Network Preferred.  Once I did that the problem went away.
I don't know what is going on but it seems to be some kind of network issue.  I can't find anything in the device logs, though.  I can't call support since I'm on a corporate account and I'm on a newer OS than T-Mobile supports (7.1.0.569).  I've been on this OS for a couple weeks now with no issues.  This particular issue started just last night.

  • Cannot retrieve Facebook inbox on new Torch 9810

    Hello,
I just got a new Torch 9810 and after uninstalling and re-installing the FB application, I still cannot access all the msgs I previously had in my FB inbox. It keeps on saying "loading messages" but it never actually does. And now the FB application doesn't even show in My AppWorld...
Does/did anyone had that problem? Really thinking of taking it back to the store...

Perhaps it's just your old messges that are not making it to your new facebook app, so to access them try going to the mobile site at m.facebook.com from your phone's browser.
As for the facebook app not showing in My World on App World, as long as the app is installed and running, this shouldn't be a problem.  If it bothers you, you can delete the app from your Applications list and reinstall it from your phone's browser at www.blackberry.com/facebook .
    I hope that helps you.

  • Various Problems with Torch 9810

I just switched form a Torch 9800 (after having a Curve 8320) to the Torch 9810.  As requested information, my carrier is ATT; OS is 7; free memory is 2340220952 Bytes; have done a battery pull; only apps are what came with the phone, 4 ring tones, and sixtools.
I'm experiencing a number of bothersome issues with my 9810.  Please let me know if they can be resolved or they're just part of the new OS7 protocol.  If the latter, I'll just switch back to the 9800.  While none is a big deal, together they make the 9810 much less attractive than the 9800 for my uses.  Thanks much for any help you can offer.
    (1) When my phone is plugged into my computer USB, the screen with "Charge, Sync, and USB Drive" pops up constantly and is incredibly annoying.  I'm not sure why the screen exists at all -- sync is through Blackberry desktop and whether you want to charge or use as a USB device is irrelevant.  Can I eliminate this screen pop-up altogether?
    (2) When I'm composing a text, the screen does not show the number of characters used, and I can't tell whether the message is longer than one page to allow me to edit back.  Can I activate somewhere the character counter for texts.
    (3) Every time I hide the icon for Blackberry Protect, it shows up again on restart.  It seems like a good app, but I'm not interested unless it's free and the app seems purposely vague on that score.
    (4) Sometimes when I pick up the phone, it seems to change on its own from the home screen to a different random screen.  This happens even when I'm vary careful not to touch the screen when I pick up the phone.
    (5)  I can't download NYT mobile, Google search does not darken a choice when my cursor stops over it, and I can't move some apps (e.g.., Bloomberg mobile) from the download as it doesn't give me the choice. Are these problems with the app products as they have not yet changed to accommodate OS7 and the 9810?  If so, any idea when these apps will be upgraded?

  • I am very disappointed with my BlackBerry Torch 9810.

I've been using BlackBerry phones since the past three years. I've used BlackBerry Curve 8520, BlackBerry Bold 2 and now, I've purchased Torch 9810.
I purchased it on 21st of August, 2012. Not even 10 days since I bought it, it started to hang. I had to remove my battery and put it in again. I've been doing this everyday, now.
It happens especially when I start the music player. The phone hangs.
What am I supposed to do?
    Please help.

You need to upgrade to the latest available OS v7.1, there is a big difference.
Connect to your PC and run the BlackBerry Desktop Software. If you are given a notice to upgrade, cancel that, and FIRST do a complete backup of your device.
    Then, proceed with the upgrade.
If you don't receive an upgrade notice, that means your mobile provider, Reliance, has not yet released it, but there are other upgrade routes. Post back, if needed.

  • Torch 9810 won't boot up or connect to Mac or PC. HELP!

    Hi,
I have a torch 9810 that suddenly stopped working a few days ago!
When I put the battery in, it begins to boot up and stops 1/4 of the way (on the grey bar on the bottom of the screen.) When I try to connect it to a computer it doesn't register. I run Mac OS 10.5.8, which is useless for most things now - I've never been able to get photos, etc, off of the phone using that OS and the blackberry software (I'd just email them to myself.) But I do have access to a friend's Mac, who runs 10.6.8 and it doesn't register there either. I also had a friend try it on their PC. I'm desperate to recover data - the ONLY video I have of my wolf, Samson - who dies 3 weeks ago, is on that phone.
    Here's what I have done:
Left the battery out for a long time and then re-inserted.
Tried to connect on various operating systems of Mac and Windows.
Ordered a new battery (the same thing happened.)
So, is there ANYTHING I can do? @BlackberryHelp on twitter should be called @BlackberryNoHelp!
Has anyone had any luck with a data recovery service (for the same/similar issue)? If so, please recommend it.
    Thanks for your help!
    Shannyn

First off, if you haven't done so, restart your Mac. Also, if you left your iPod plugged in overnight to your Mac, your iPod was powering the USB bus in your computer - and this is why your iPod battery is completely dead. Never leave your device plugged in when the computer is in sleep mode - all peripheral ports are turned off and battery powered devices will discharge.
If you have managed to get your iPod charged, the it is time to tackle the iTunes/Apple Mobile Device Driver issues. See this article for tips on how to troubleshoot and resolve this problem - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1747

got alert for blackberry protect update and installed up and went to reboot now . now my blackberry torch 9810 acts like it is restarting and will not come back on. need help asap!!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Are you able to restart your device in safe mode as shown in KB17877?
I assume, since it's caught in a reboot cycle, when you connect to the Desktop Software it doesn't take a stable connection to reinstall your software?
If that is case, remove your battery and keep it out when you connect to the Desktop Software. You will get a pop up that the device can't connect and there should be Retry, Update and Cancel buttons. Select Update and you will then be able to reinstall the current device software version.
When the load is progressing, you will see a step that says "Wait for device initialization". At this point, insert the battery and the reload should complete.

  • OS7 browser problems on Torch 9810 (incl. dead touchscreen and migrating cursor)

The browser on the Torch 9810 has two interrelated problems. On certain mobile sites -- The New York Times in particular -- one will suddenly be unable to use the touchscreen to tap open links and the cursor will remain constantly visible, slowly migrating upwards without any input from the trackpad. This usually happens right after the first time one opens a link on the sites in question.
Also, certain sites -- again, the NY TImes, and also ESPN -- display what seems to be generic mobile sites much different from the versions that one sees on, e.g., the 9800. I imagine that this is because the sites do not recognize the 9810 browser's user agent string.
The first problem with the dead touchscreen and migrating cursor seems to be OS related, while the second one, I would guess, would seem to require mobile web site adminstrators or the like being made aware of the new user agent string.
I have the 9810 on AT&T. An update from the shipping OS (7.0.0.261) to the most recent OS I'm aware of (7.0.0.336) did nothing to resolve the first problem.
I'm hopeful that RIM will promptly address these problems.

Thanks for your response. I have already written the NY Times webmaster re: the user agent string. That site had a similar, but less annoying problem when the 9800 came out -- it recognized the 9800 as an iPhone. Presumably, they will address it. (I would not presume to tell the New York Times that it needs to be "more professional," however, unless you would presume to tell Le Monde that it needs to be "more professional." )
I'm not at all sure, though, that the sudden lack of touchscreen response and permanent/drifting cursor problem that occurs after clicking on a link is the website's fault. In all cases, the generic mobile website is simply the same version that would be encountered if one visited the site on a dumbphone. A smartphone should not react this way when being dumped over to the "dumbphone" site.
While it may be the website's fault for not being able to adequately handle a new user agent string, and consequently dumping one over to the dumbphone site version, I would think it is RIM's fault for not designing the browser so that it would not react this way on such a dumbphone site.

  • BlackBerry Maps on Torch 9810

I just upgraded from a Torch 9800 to Torch 9810. When I open BlackBerry Maps I shows my current location but the BB button the return key don't do anything. On the touch screen the search and Get directions don't do anything either. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it using BB Desktop and it is the same no change.  The only thing I can do is press hang up to get out of the app. But the app stays active. I can see it on switch applications and there is no way to close it.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm not sure if that's a common problem or not but because it's obviously a software glitch, you should try a battery pull if you haven't already.  Battery pulls are recommended quite often in these forums because they do wonders at solving many minor issues.  So with your phone powered on, go ahead and remove your battery.  You can then put it back in a few seconds later.
Let us know if that helps you.

    Hey Rodneyr,
Welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
We would suggest removing BlackBerry App World and then reinstall and test.
    1. Go to options.
    2. Select Device.
    3. Select Application Management.
    4. Highlight BlackBerry App World.
    5. Press the Menu key and choose Delete.
    6. Reboot and visit www.blackBerry.com/appworld.
    Thanks.
