Morphing with reshape in AE

I seem to be having several problems. Working with AE CS6 on a precomposed layer of star components drawn in AI. It looks like the following:
I drew a mask around this and the second layer and placed them in the "Masks" folder correctly setting the mode to none for the target mask and "add" for the starting mask. Curiously, even though the images line up on one another, when I draw the masks, and paste them onto the layer they no longer seem to be lined up correctly to the center of the images..
When I attempt move the Percent reshape to 100, nothing happens at all on the first, straight edged layer.
And on the curved layer, which I am wanting to morph to the straight layer mask to start, I get this weird shape.
It seems my masks are not anchored correctly, even though I thought I had correctly anchored every layer to the 1920x1080 field center (i.e. 960x540)

Here is a version where I took the first sharp edged image and tried to morph it to the curved one. I made 16 pins. Moving the % to 100 does nothing.
If I set the Boundary mask option to the curved star mask (both the destination and the boundary OK?), I still get nothing.
The straight star with reshape highlighted looks like this. I snugged the point to the ends of each path.
Still nothing when I try the morph. If, as you say, the point numbers are not the same; how canI make them any more the same than they are currently? There is only one at each end point and inside corner. Suggestions?
BTW, I don't quite understand what I am looking at.here. When I touch on the star, I get this image with two apparent masks, one blue one pink:
Wnen I touch on the reshape effect I get four masks, the pink and blue ones and the two that I pin points on. They are red and yellow and appear to be different from the first two: Is this all working correctly?
I have tried throwing everything away and redrawing from scratch. Still nothing.

I have student CS3, can't get reshape tool to work as it says it will

I select the points and/or segments with reshape tool, but when I click and drag it moves the entire path and not just the points I highlighted with the reshape tool. Same with the white selection arrow = always moves the entire collection of paths because I can't get it to select just a portion. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I follow the directions exactly but there are several things that don't operate as described in manual. Another example is the saved workspace. It never brings back the color swatches I save onto my workspace - they're lost every time I close a file even though I save it per instructions. Is this because it's a student version or is it user error?

Yes
On a closed path select the white arrow and click on the path not inside the path but on the path itself.
That selects just that segment then you can reshape at will and when you go to another segment it will allow you to reshape that as well without reselecting the path.
Again do not drag the white arrow or click within the path just click on a segment.
If you draw the closed path with a shape tool then it is all selected so you have to delectit then select it withthe direct select tool clicking on the path segment.

Import Illustrator File with multiple layers and sublayers as composition retaining all layers and sublayers

I have drawn a country map with multiple layers and sublayers including streets, cities, rail lines, ...
Now I want to create a template for my collegues in After Effects.
For this I want to import the .ai file into After Effects retaining all sublayers and layers in compositions and subcompositions.
When I do that, I get the first couple of layers correctly, the other ones comes in one merged composition.
What can I do, to get all layers each as a layer in After Effects?

Illustrator only imports the first level of layers. If you have groups or paths below you need to release the groups to layers. The layers will then be stacked in order as sub layers. Then you need to move them up.
The steps are to select a layer in the Illustrator layer panel, then without selecting any specific element in the layer click on the menu in the top right corner and select release to layers. All a elements in that layer will be converted to layers. Now select them all and drag them up above the original layer. This will leave the original layer empty and put all elements in new layers.
Here's a tutorial I did a zillion years ago which uses this technique to turn a blend into a morph.

We are looking for a Java developer to work with our 3D artist to develop a web based real-time 3D application using the JSR 184:Mobile 3D Graphics API for J2ME.
The key application features include the following:
Loading/Unloading 3D objects in real time
controlling 3D morphing with GUI
loading/unloading skelatal animation in real time
changing colors of 3D objects
Saving it out as an animated gif

Even for a skilled programmer, porting something from one platform to another is generally a lot more than a few hours work since the application will need to be completely rewritten to work within the SDK framework.

Trying to resize a mask for use with a Reshape Effect

The problem is that I have two pictures of faces that are about 25% different in scale, and I'm trying to get them close to matching so that the morph looks good.
I found a few workarounds on Creative Cow, but none of them seemed to work for me:
1) Pasting the mask into a solid then resizing the solid appropriately, then pasting the new mask from the new solid into the other image.
2) Using keyframes with mask shape to scale the mask directly
3) Highlighting the mask using the common shape tool (unsure if they're talking about the rectangle shape tool here, Google revealed nothing), and then resizing the selected area.

Just to make it more concrete, one image is scaled to 75%, and the other to 110%. When I paste the mask from the 75% image to the 110% one, it appears too big -- as if it had been drawn on a 100% version of the image. And when I paste the mask from the 110% one onto the 75% one, it appears too small.
And I'm sure anyone who could answer this question already knows this, but the Reshape effect requires each layer to have two masks on it, one for the image that you start off with and one for the image you end with.

The mask paths are calculated in relation to the layer size. Scale up the layer and the basic mask information, the vectors used to draw the path, scale with the layer but the root data does not change. Draw a 50 X 50 pixel mask on a layer that is 50 X 50 pixels, copy the path and then past it on a layer that is 500 X 500 and they will be the same size. Now draw a different mask on a 50 X 50 layer that has been scaled 1000% and then paste it to a layer that is not scaled and see what happens. Return the original scaled layer to 100% and check out the size of the two masks. They should be the same.

Can't reshape rectangle with the "Selection Tool"

After updating Illustrator CC 2014 to the newest versions I can't reshape rectangles with the "Selection Tool".
Is this a new feature where you have to go to: "Shape > Expand rectangle" to be able to reshape it?

I am afraid you have come across the Live Rectangle bug which is limited to the MAC versions starting with 10.7 and 10.8, but not 10.9 (Mavericks).
So a switch to Mavericks with a reinstallation might be the way to solve it here and now.
To get round it in each case, it is possible to Expand the Live Rectangles to get normal old fashioned rectangles, or to Pathfinder>Unite, or to use the Scale Tool.
A more permanent way round that is to create normal old fashioned rectangles, after running the free script created by Pawel, see this thread with download link:

Hi!
It seems that you are looking to customize the icons in your desktops with the Favicons of an specific site (the small logos next to the URL as you call them).
I'm not sure if any add-on exists but by default it's not possible to do what you are looking for.

Interfacing LabVIEW with Meta Morph Journal

I'm just starting a project where I must fully automate an experiment involving a microscope and a microfluidics manifold. I am planning to use LabVIEW to control the manifold and Meta Morph Journal to program the motions of the microscope stage and I'm wondering if it's possible to interface the two (i.e. have one talk to the other to coordinate the actions).

Reshape with daqmx

We use a Daqmx PCI 6251 to acquire and send signal to generate pulse (for measurement strain), But i need to reshape frequency of pulses because is too high.How can i do it?

I didn't understand completely your question.
I assume you're using a counter of the PCI 6251 in order to generate the pulse train. If you want to vary the frequency of the train, performing a PWM you can take a look at the following link:

What is the best way to morph one circle into two, with fluidity?

Hello I'm creating a small animation,
I have a good working knowledge of After Effects CS6, but this is the first time really delving into animation.
So I'm kind of unsure of the best method to do this, I've tried masking a solid and keyframing the shape change to the other, but it's doesn't really give the fluid motion I'm seeking.
This is the sort of effect.
Obviously without a costly plug-in would be preferred. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me.
Also the more like liquid droplets the better.

I ended up using the CC Smear effect, so whilst one pertrudes the other is nested in the end of said protusion.
Then I animated the size and position of the nested circle (whilst protuding that one as well), so it appears to blob out of the end then the protusions retract from both circles, whilst putting an inertia bounce on the position of the 'End' position of the protusion. So it appears to wobble when it is fully retracted.
The problem with this is...The occasional glitch (when rendered) with CC Smear.
Is there a reason for this?

Does 3D PDF support animations with morph modifiers

I have a 3d model created in 3dsmax. It has a mechanical spring animated using a Spring morph modifier. When I convert this into 3D PDF, the spring does not animate, other animated parts not using this modifier animates fine. Is this type of modifier not supported?

Wonder if there is anyway to animate a spring stretch and shrink (like the springs inside a piston) for a 3d pdf animation.

Morphing animation with wrl file

I'm trying to import a .wrl object.
The VrmlLoader loads without problems, but the next exception occurs:

when this code is executed:

I need help getting my RSS feed compaitble with Itunes...Im almost there.

Can someone help me with my code for itunes. Unfortunately I use rapidweaver to podcast and I have read there are a few things Rapidweaver leaves out when publishing the site so itunes does not accept the feed. My RSS feed works and can be subscribed manually though Itunes or with software. Im thinking im using spaces or it looks like I need to number my tracks for my podcast(which sounds odd but, I know itunes is finicky with spaces, symbols etc)

It's better to post the URL of the feed (as you have subsequently done) than the contents of the feed .
From the FeedValidator report the feed is basically OK for iTunes. There are several occasions where 'content:encoded' sections (following immediately on 'guid' tags) should be enclosed in
<description>...</description>
tags: however all this will be ignored by iTunes anyway and only applies to other readers. The 'potentially dangerous content' referred to by FeedValidator is within the 'content:encoded' tags and so isn't relevant to iTunes. They are referring to an inline css style, and I don't know whether this might cause a problem elsewhere.
You should really have a language tag, e.g.
<language>en-us</language>
(you have a dc:language tag but that's for a different system). This should be placed in the top section, before the first 'item' tag.
It's advisable to have an 'itunes:explicit' tag for each 'item' -
<itunes:explicit>yes IF CONTAINS ADULT MATERIAL, OTHERWISE no</itunes:explicit>
it's not compulsory if you have no adult material, but you must have a 'yes' if you do.
You can check your feed by subscribing in iTunes from the 'Advanced' menu - this has the same result as clicking the 'Subscribe' button on the Store page. If it works OK there you are ready to submit it.

Empty strings morphed to NULL ???

I am executing the following SQL-statement (short version):

that my stringValue "" morphed to a NULL-value !!!
Why are "" Strings mapped to NULL ???
Is there a configuration-parameter to turn this "feature" off ???
"" is not the same as NULL, is it ???

This is a known Oracle feature / bug (depending on your
perspective). Null strings are equal to null. Try "SELECT 1 FROM
dual WHERE '' IS NULL;" to prove it.

Simple shape morphing in Keynote...?

Hello,
I am seeking help with what should be a simple task (I reckon), but which is turning out not to be...
I use Keynote 9 for my teaching presentations. I need to show semi-transparent coloured regions – superimposed onto maps – that change through time, and I would like to make that change into a fluid animation: simple semi-transparent blobs that change shape. That's all! Simple, huh.
Here are the problems...
- The shapes are irregular (so Magic Move won't do it)
- Keynote 9, so no Flash
- I can get Adobe Illustrator to generate Flash animations and then I should be able to convert them with VideoMonkey into .mp4s... except that VideoMonkey utterly refuses to convert the .swf files generated by Illustrator... No idea what's going on there... Tried everything I can think of, no go.
- Downloaded a trial version of Mac SWF Video Converter, but this seems to make mp4s with black backgrounds... I couldn't see any way to maintain the transparency (and of course Instant Alpha doesn't work on video files)
- I can generate single animation frames in Adobe Illustrator then use Preview to combine them into animated GIFs, but Keynote will not import the result with a transparent background (yes, I can *make* them with a transparent background, but Keynote renders it solid white on import...)
- I can convert the animated GIF to a QT movie (using GIF2MOV), but then I lose the semi-transparency on the shapes themselves.
- I could place each of my Illustrator-generated animation frames onto a separate Keynote slide and have them auto Transition with no Effect – so use Keynote itself as the animation software – but for a halfway decent smoothness in the animation, we're talking a lot of frames and this approach seems pretty inefficient to me... Not to mention a pain to do (as the image on each slide has to be independently aligned... take me for ever!)
For a relatively simple visual effect, this appears to be implausibly difficult to do... Unless someone out there can see another way of doing it...

Interesting idea... I managed to achieve the effect I was after (I'll explain how below) only to realize that what I was actually aiming for was even harder than I had realized...
What I am trying to animate is changing ethnic "territories" over time in South East Asia. These are complicated little shapes that merge into one another and shift about all over the place. As I am dealing with historical territorial (or perhaps more accurately, "distributional") data, I project it onto a purely physical map of Asia that has no modern political boundaries (as they are irrelevant). But this also means (if you are not so good at geography) that your normal visual reference points have gone, and for my students (French university-level language students, not geography majors) I'm sure that the result can be a little difficult to assimilate.
For the past few years, I have been happily fading different, often visually disjunct arrangements into one another, but I have always been only moderately satisfied with the result: the changes can be hard to track visually, which defeats the whole purpose of displaying them this way... I wanted the shapes to flow without interruption (like blobs of wax in a Lava lamp! - Theres an image for you!) – to be visually coherent.
I began therefore thinking about morphing, and Flash animations...
...and ran into all the problems that the tiff between Apple and Adobe has currently left us with. (Don't you like the play on words there... tiff... )
I gave up on trying to animate just the transparent blobs, with a view to overlaying the animation on a static blank map in Keynote, and instead tried animating the whole lot, background map and all, using Adobe Illustrator. The process involves Illustrator's blend tool, and exporting to .swf, then recapturing the .swf files with Snapz Pro X in .mov format, which allowed Keynote to import them.
BUT! The result was still not what I wanted (picky, eh). Illustrator's blend tool does a superb job of translating any form into any other, no matter how complex, but groups of humans moving over land don't move like that! For instance, a circluar region moving to a coastal region, when "morphed" will progressively adopt the shape of the coastline before reaching it, which is just silly. It looks as if the population being represented distribute themselves to neatly match the coast when still about 500kms away (and over the space of several generations). Call me stickler, but it doesn't look right. It isn't right, and it's not what I need...
Sure, any such representation is a vast oversimplification in any case, but superimposing such a specifically impossible visual trait onto the presentation runs counter to the whole idea of doing it for me. It should be iconically plausible (even if not accurate).
So... I'm in a pause... Looking to understand animating shapes better...
I like your screen shot idea tho'. I will have to try it out...
