Mosaic screensaver asks 100 pics, I got 400 in folder

I tried using Mosaic screensaver for the first time in Lion, it asks for 100, I got 400+ in folder.  Am I missing something?

I had trouble with that misleading error message, too. Looks like you have to import the pictures into your iPhoto library (there is no need to have it actually copy the files). At least it worked for me after I did that.

  • Mosaic screensaver not using the right photos

I'm having a problem with the mosaic screensaver in Leopard.
When I choose a folder of pictures for the screensaver, it works fine in slideshow and collage mode.
However, when I choose mosaic mode, it will display the first image in the folder, but will display images in another folder I was using previously all around it as the mosaic.
This happens in the test and the real screensaver as well. Happens with any other folder I choose, and still happens after restarting. Help!

Update: With some experimenting, I've discovered that it makes the correct photos in mosaic form, but the photos used as parts of the mosaic are all from my iPhoto library!

  • Mosaic Screensaver Issue

With an iPhoto event selected, and the option of "Present slides in random order" checked, the mosaic screensaver keeps cycling through only 2 photos, with one or both of those photos "developing" into a solid white rectangle. When I uncheck the "Present slides in random order", the mosiac screensaver seems to work as it should, although it seems sluggish. My iPhoto images are referenced instead of managed (not copied to the iPhoto Library). Would this have an effect on the mosaic screensaver?
The only way I can get the mosaic screensaver to work beautifully is to choose a folder of images on my hard drive instead of an iPhoto event or folder.
FYI, I have deleted all the preference files to rebuild the mosaic database, as well as rebuilt the iPhoto library, but it made no difference.

A restart shouldn't do any harm at all, since you sync everything make sure you don't restore.

  • Mosaic Screensaver not working

Ever since I installed Snow Leopard, my Mosaic screensaver hasn't worked properly. The symptoms are:
    1) it locks on cycling between only two pictures, despite having a library of several thousand pictures to choose from. (different pictures on each invocation)
    2) it tends to show white rectangles instead of pictures, and the color choices are wrong, at least compared to how well it worked under Leopard.
I have tried deleting the appropriate (as far as I can tell) plists, but that hasn't helped.
So tonight, I tried playing with some settings in the screensaver control panel, and when I used the "test" button there, it worked perfectly. But it still fails if I let it come on automatically.
Is there anything else I should be doing and/or correcting to make it work? I currently use our "last 12 months' iPhoto album as the data source, and it has about 4,000 pictures in it. Is this too many? if so, why?

It sounds like we are having similar problems:
Since upgrading my MBP to SL (and patched to 10.6.2) my mosaic screensaver is not working properly:
    1) I don't have the issue with only 2 pics cycling, however my pics are on the HDD so may not be having the issue mentioned re: wifi connection to external drive
    2) It chooses very dark pictures for white and light grey, and some of the colour choices are bizarre to say the least! Certainly no where near as good as Leopard
    3) Following the completion of the mosaic when it stops, it 'jerks' when restarting the image and the next mosaic. Its not a 'jerk exactly', it actually zooms into the image very slightly, before starting the 'shrink' into the next mosaic.
    Anyone got any solutions?

  • Mosaic screensaver

Upgraded to Mountain Lion yesterday and lost the mosaic screensaver that used my iPhoto pics.  How do I get it back?  Thanks.

I tried this method entering into time machine to my SL and replaced the two files listed above. Upon opening the system preferences and when I try to enter the desktop/screen saver I receive athis dialog box...
The information given me is that an open system preference may be running in cmpatibility mode and that when I quit the SP it restarts in 64 bit mode. Problem is that when I reopen the SP and select screen savers I get this...
Notice that desktop and screen saver is both greyed. If I click screen saver nothing happens. Any ideas? I'd like to get this back.

  • Problem using Mosaic Screensaver

Like many, I find the Mosaic screensaver included with Leopard very cool. However, I have a problem using it and wonder if anyone has a workaround. First of all, my iPhoto library is on an external FW HD and has 25-30,000 photos. When I first tried to setup Mosaic, the test under System Prefs worked fine, but in the real world all I got from Mosaic was a black screen and a locked-up system. Sometimes I had to reboot to interrupt it. So I exported 1500 selected photos, disconnected the FW HD, and created a new, smaller iPhoto library. This worked great - Mosaic ran perfectly with no lock-up. Unfortunately, when I reconnected the FW HD, Mosaic started re-indexing and adding in the 1000s of photos from my original library. Back to square one.
Does Mosaic have a preferences file or some other way to set a limit on the number of photos it uses, or to turn off re-indexing when it detects new photos? Anyone have a similar or larger number of photos and doesn't have this problem? Any other solutions?

I guess I'm not making myself clear. This is not an issue with managing iPhoto libraries or albums. I've used iPhoto Library Manager, iPhoto Buddy, and my library has dozens of albums. I know how to select a library by pressing Option + iPhoto, double-clicking an iPhoto library, etc., etc.
I apologize for not making myself clear. The problem is not with managing iPhoto libraries, rather it is with Mosaic automatically updating its database when it detects an additional source of photos. Let me explain again:
I have one large iPhoto library on an external HD, and a small library on my main HD. I setup Mosaic using the small library and with the external HD detached from my laptop. Under these conditions Mosaic works fine. No problems. However, if I run Mosaic with my external HD attached, the screen goes black and the message "Creating Mosaic Database..." appears together with a progress bar. All of this occurs without iPhoto running at all. After a long wait the database update finishes and Mosaic will no longer run because there are too many photos in its database (I presume). THIS is the problem.

  • Mosaic screensaver option max photo size

What is the max photo size for Mosaic screensaver option?
That is, when a photo first comes on the screen, it is often cropped.
What is max size that can be viewed at 100%?

  • Please bring back mosaic screensaver.

Apple I urge you to bring back the mosaic screensaver.  Has anyone else found an alternative?

I was in the Apple Store with a one to one appt to try this. They said it would cause problems with iPhoto and iMovie. That next time I upgrade the preference pane would not work properly. He did not know of anyway to retrieve it for me. Have you tried this? Did it cause other problems for you? I have mountain line on my time machine backup on a seperate drive.

  • Mosaic Screensaver with iPhoto Library

    Hi,
When trying to use the Mosaic Screensaver, I get a message saying that I must have an iPhoto library in order to use the screensaver. I have a library located in Home>Pictures>iPhoto. It is titled _iPhoto Library_. I have even tried this with iPhoto open but with no avail.
    Ideas?

  • Mosaic screensaver is not random

I have the mosaic screensaver set to display photos in random order, but it always shows them in the same order. Anyone else have this issue, or know of a way to fix it?

I had the same problem. I fixed it by viewing one of the apple image libraries and then choosing the mosaic option. I was presented a different option menu (random, rows, speed). When I chose my aperture library, I was then presented with the correct options of random, rows, and speed. I now have a random set of photos.
It appears that the options I first saw for the mosaic screensaver were the same as the slideshow (random, fade, zoom back and forth, crop, centered).
It appears that this is a bug with the screensaver settings using an aperture library, because now that I have the mosaic working, I can't view the correct options for the slideshow or collage.

  • Mountain lion and mosaic screensaver?

i'm very happy with Mountain Lion so far but can't find the brilliant Mosaic screensaver that i've been using, and loving, since Snow Lepard.
has it gone for good? was there a problem with it on Mountain Lion? I'd love to know! thanks!

Hey I have made a quick hack for Mountain Lion users to get back the Mosaic Screensaver. It's nothing fancy but it does the trick. REMEMBER TO BACKUP BEFORE MAKING ANY SYSTEM CHANGES!

  • I got a missing folder from my desktop.

    Hi everyone.
I got a missing folder from my desktop. I did not erased it and i can't find it using Finder, Terminal or Spotlight. I'm running a Macbook Pro, 2Ghz Intel Core i7, 4 gb 1333 Mhz DDR3. iOS 10.9.4 Maverick.
I can't figure what happened... i just turn on my Mac yesterday and the folder was not longer there. I got all my work in that folder and it's very important to me. Unfortunately i don't have a Time machine backup.
I'm using Stellar Phoenix Mac Dara Recovery, trying to check if the folder was erased by mistake... i don't believe that anyways but i'm trying this tool.
    Any help will be useful.
    Thank you so much!.

Well the actual problem is that i never (that i recall) deleted that folder from my desktop. I'd read this happened to many other people and i think may be a corrupt file problem or something technical. I'm just asking for someone who has this problem and of course a solution for this.
It's like you have one folder on your desktop and then turn off your Mac, next day you turn on the computer and you don't see the folder anywhere... it's strange to me.

  • I got a flashing folder with a question mark. I got a new hard drive and upgraded to 4 gigs and can't open anything or reload the operating system? Help?

I got a flashing folder with a question mark. I got a new hard drive and upgraded to 4 gigs and can't open anything or reload the operating system? Help? FYI: I have been using boot camp with windows 7 and started getting a kernal_data_Page_error and it would reboot windows, i was trying to do a chkdsk on the next reboot, but thats when i started getting this issue. I have put in a new hard drive and went from 2 gigs to 4. I can not get the computer to do anything, even the monitor does not show anything now????

    Prep your new drive:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs,) then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Install OS X.
