  • Mosaic screensaver: Does it work through Finder?

Only just discovered the Mosaic feature. Tried setting the screensaver to that option, with my Pictures folder selected. It lets me make that selection, but then gives me a message saying my library must have 100 items. (Pictures folder has 126 items).
So question: Is it designed to work with images contained in Finder folders, or strictly for iPhoto libraries? (If the latter, it would be sensible if that was made clear in the prefpane, which it's not.)
    Thanks.

it mostly works with iphoto. it won't work if you have less than 100 pictures in your iphoto library. if you try to run it on a folder of pictures in finder it will basically combine them with the iphoto library as follows. it will start on a picture in this folder in finder and do a mosaic using only images from iphoto ending on another picture from this folder and so on. that's how it works for me at any rate.

  • Desktop Image and Screensaver: doesn't work

I can not change my desktop image, and my screensaver won't start.
I was playing around in Desktop Preferences tonight, setting different speeds for the iTunes Artwork screensaver to see how it'd look, and suddenly, System Preferences just crashed on me. I wasn't doing ANYTHING strange, just playing with the options of the original screensavers that came with my computer, which is brand new. I don't have any third party screensavers loaded on my machine. The desktop image was one I made myself, with Photoshop. I have absolutely no idea why it's acting this way.
Even stranger, out of curiosity, I created a second user account and tried the screen saver while logged in the second account. The screensaver worked just fine. But still nothing in my main account. Any ideas?
When I try Desktop Images and Screensaver now (within System Preferences), it CRASHES on me. I get this error message:
"The application System Preferences quit unexpectantly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple."
If I reopen it again, I get the same thing. The second error dialog will always have the option to "try again." If I try again, I can actually open the Desktop Images and Screensavers window. I can't change anything, however. If I try changing something, I get the following message:
    "System Preferences -- New Settings
New settings have been created for this application. Do you wish to use these settings from now on?"
With two buttons for yes or no. However, no matter which button I select, I get the same results.
I've run OSX through Jaguar and Panther, so it's not like I'm a new user who just clicked the wrong thing. I'm seriously stumped here. Can anyone help? I'm a little worried about this.... Thanks.
Dual Core Intel Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

THANK YOU!!!! Yes, it was the preferences in my library causing the problems. I just deleted the screensaver preferences, and that fixed all the problems, including the desktop image problem.
I also think that maybe an alarm clock program I downloaded called Aurora may have been partly to blame. I had Aurora authorized to wake my computer from sleep, even though I had password protection enabled. This might have conflicted with the screensaver somehow, dunno.... Let me know if any of you are successfully using Aurora without any problems, and I will reinstall it. But for now, that program is off my system.
Anyways, thanks a load. You guys are all very helpful. -- Dean

  • 6303i screensaver doesn't work

I got a new Nokia 6303i at the weekend. I like it so far the only problem is none of the installed screensavers seem to work. I have tried all of them including the digital/analogue clock ones and none of them work. Have tried changing the power saving and sleep options to see if this affects the screensaver but no luck.
All that happens when i leave my phone alone is that after 20 seconds or so the screen dims, then after another 20 seconds it dims some more and thats it. The backlight is off and you can still faintly see the phones wallpaper but no screensaver ever comes on.
Anyone else had this problem or got their screensavers to work?

I too have a problem with clock after backlight turning off. Without SIM card all orderly that is to say: after keyboard lock and unhooking backlight contrasting watch remain on screen and symbols of the key and other symbols, which are displaced on 2 lines downwards each minute. Probably for prevention of the burning-out the screen. In mode "flight" too okay. In usual mode through after 2 minutes on dark screen appears the started white field, shifting watch upstairs, whereupon screen gradually completely goes out. And after that blank screen.

Yes you have!  All of Apple's pre-installed screensavers are "movers."  Check for yourself.
The screensaver that is showing is a custom aquarium.

Now that we know you actually mean desktop pictures (wallpaper), troubleshooting suggestions will be a tad different.
Option key>Finder>Go>Library>Preferences - trash the com.apple.desktop.plist file, repair permissions, restart your comp & empty the trash when you reach the desktop.

  • Mosaic Screensaver not working

Ever since I installed Snow Leopard, my Mosaic screensaver hasn't worked properly. The symptoms are:
    1) it locks on cycling between only two pictures, despite having a library of several thousand pictures to choose from. (different pictures on each invocation)
    2) it tends to show white rectangles instead of pictures, and the color choices are wrong, at least compared to how well it worked under Leopard.
I have tried deleting the appropriate (as far as I can tell) plists, but that hasn't helped.
So tonight, I tried playing with some settings in the screensaver control panel, and when I used the "test" button there, it worked perfectly. But it still fails if I let it come on automatically.
Is there anything else I should be doing and/or correcting to make it work? I currently use our "last 12 months' iPhoto album as the data source, and it has about 4,000 pictures in it. Is this too many? if so, why?

It sounds like we are having similar problems:
Since upgrading my MBP to SL (and patched to 10.6.2) my mosaic screensaver is not working properly:
    1) I don't have the issue with only 2 pics cycling, however my pics are on the HDD so may not be having the issue mentioned re: wifi connection to external drive
    2) It chooses very dark pictures for white and light grey, and some of the colour choices are bizarre to say the least! Certainly no where near as good as Leopard
    3) Following the completion of the mosaic when it stops, it 'jerks' when restarting the image and the next mosaic. Its not a 'jerk exactly', it actually zooms into the image very slightly, before starting the 'shrink' into the next mosaic.
    Anyone got any solutions?

Which OS X is installed on your Mac ?
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac. The version is noted there.
Troubleshooting advice can depend on that information.

  • Screensaver im mavericks doesn't work

    Hello,
    I have the following problem:
    My sreensavers doesn't work after 2, 5, 10 oder 20min. It doesn't matter which screensaver I choose.
Now, I want to control the plist-files but I'am not sure how much files I should have in my directories!
    I've found plist files in
    library/preferences/
    home-library/preferences
    home-library/preferences/byhost.
How much and which files should I have in these directories?
    Thx for help!
    Alex

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
pmset -g assertions | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

  • Problem using Mosaic Screensaver

Like many, I find the Mosaic screensaver included with Leopard very cool. However, I have a problem using it and wonder if anyone has a workaround. First of all, my iPhoto library is on an external FW HD and has 25-30,000 photos. When I first tried to setup Mosaic, the test under System Prefs worked fine, but in the real world all I got from Mosaic was a black screen and a locked-up system. Sometimes I had to reboot to interrupt it. So I exported 1500 selected photos, disconnected the FW HD, and created a new, smaller iPhoto library. This worked great - Mosaic ran perfectly with no lock-up. Unfortunately, when I reconnected the FW HD, Mosaic started re-indexing and adding in the 1000s of photos from my original library. Back to square one.
Does Mosaic have a preferences file or some other way to set a limit on the number of photos it uses, or to turn off re-indexing when it detects new photos? Anyone have a similar or larger number of photos and doesn't have this problem? Any other solutions?

I guess I'm not making myself clear. This is not an issue with managing iPhoto libraries or albums. I've used iPhoto Library Manager, iPhoto Buddy, and my library has dozens of albums. I know how to select a library by pressing Option + iPhoto, double-clicking an iPhoto library, etc., etc.
I apologize for not making myself clear. The problem is not with managing iPhoto libraries, rather it is with Mosaic automatically updating its database when it detects an additional source of photos. Let me explain again:
I have one large iPhoto library on an external HD, and a small library on my main HD. I setup Mosaic using the small library and with the external HD detached from my laptop. Under these conditions Mosaic works fine. No problems. However, if I run Mosaic with my external HD attached, the screen goes black and the message "Creating Mosaic Database..." appears together with a progress bar. All of this occurs without iPhoto running at all. After a long wait the database update finishes and Mosaic will no longer run because there are too many photos in its database (I presume). THIS is the problem.

hi everyone, the problem is that mplayer's sound doesn't work.
the sound with Amarok and Firefox(e.g youtube) works, but with mpalyer no !!!
    i've posted some commands:
    thanks

OP should first go through the wiki page of ALSA to ensure that his ALSA setup is working correctly. There aren't many sound setups that do not work under ALSA. If OP is relying on another sound setup then he should follow the appropriate wiki and tell us so.
@otto88: It would also help if you would try to explain what your intentions were. I'm assuming you merely want to have sound working and not configure some fancy setup. In that case you should just stick to a basic setup and follow the wiki step by step (don't skip any line and if you don't understand something, you figure that out or you ask people, don't just ignore it).
For instance I don't even have those /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and /etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.conf even though I have 2 sound devices, while you seem to only have 1 sound device

So your /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf in that case is totally unnecessary, let alone that you don't even have the snd_mia module loaded so why do you even configure alsa to load it at index 1. You aren't supposed to simply copy and paste the configurations from the wiki. Those configurations are merely there to give you an idea on how to make your own configuration.
When you have ensured that your sound is been set up correctly then you can start with the most basic mplayer configuration. You keep the /etc/mplayer/example.cong configuration file totally commented out (like you have atm) and your ~/.mplayer/config should only contain
    ao=alsa

  • Rss screensaver hotkeys not working

I use the the rss screensaver - the BBC tech edition - under the headlines it says 'press the (numeral) key to read more' - pressing the key used to bring up FF with the relevant article. But now it doesn't work -- any ideas?

I think the RSS feed button is expecting to see a URL of either http://web.mac.com/tpardon/todpardon/Video_Podcast/rss.xml OR
    feed://www.pardondesign.com/todpardon/Video_Podcast/rss.xml
Are you uploading your podcast separately to your 3rd party server? Are you modifying any of your folders on .Mac or your 3rd party server?

  • Mosaic screensaver not using the right photos

I'm having a problem with the mosaic screensaver in Leopard.
When I choose a folder of pictures for the screensaver, it works fine in slideshow and collage mode.
However, when I choose mosaic mode, it will display the first image in the folder, but will display images in another folder I was using previously all around it as the mosaic.
This happens in the test and the real screensaver as well. Happens with any other folder I choose, and still happens after restarting. Help!

Update: With some experimenting, I've discovered that it makes the correct photos in mosaic form, but the photos used as parts of the mosaic are all from my iPhoto library!

  • Album Art Screensaver does not work after iTunes 9 upgrade

After I upgraded to iTunes 9 my album art screensaver no longer works. I get the message saying "Your iTunes library does not contain any songs with artwork". I have tried deleting the plist files per another support topic, but this doesn't fix the problem. Ideas?

This is the Tiger forum - you are running Snow Leopard!
But I would suggest you post your question in the iTunes forum:
