Mosaic Screensaver not working

Ever since I installed Snow Leopard, my Mosaic screensaver hasn't worked properly. The symptoms are:
1) it locks on cycling between only two pictures, despite having a library of several thousand pictures to choose from. (different pictures on each invocation)
2) it tends to show white rectangles instead of pictures, and the color choices are wrong, at least compared to how well it worked under Leopard.
I have tried deleting the appropriate (as far as I can tell) plists, but that hasn't helped.
So tonight, I tried playing with some settings in the screensaver control panel, and when I used the "test" button there, it worked perfectly. But it still fails if I let it come on automatically.
Is there anything else I should be doing and/or correcting to make it work? I currently use our "last 12 months' iPhoto album as the data source, and it has about 4,000 pictures in it. Is this too many? if so, why?

It sounds like we are having similar problems:
Since upgrading my MBP to SL (and patched to 10.6.2) my mosaic screensaver is not working properly:
1) I don't have the issue with only 2 pics cycling, however my pics are on the HDD so may not be having the issue mentioned re: wifi connection to external drive
2) It chooses very dark pictures for white and light grey, and some of the colour choices are bizarre to say the least! Certainly no where near as good as Leopard
3) Following the completion of the mosaic when it stops, it 'jerks' when restarting the image and the next mosaic. Its not a 'jerk exactly', it actually zooms into the image very slightly, before starting the 'shrink' into the next mosaic.
Anyone got any solutions?

  • Screensaver not working in Mountain Lion 10.8.2??

    Hello,
Since the update of Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on my iMac the screensaver is not working anymore. I set it to 10min and after 10min nothing happen. Whats that?? Sometimes (like 1 time a day or 2) it will work but most of the time, nothing.
Anyone have an Idea of how to fix this??
    Thanks!

Upgraded iMac to Mountain Lion a couple of weeks ago.  Screen saver was working well until Sunday or Monday. Did not know! It was working before.  The screen now has burn marcs! Ruined!  Screen saver still not working except forced with hot corner.  Furious!  Tried permissions, restart with OC p r.  Is there any way to fix this?  And the screen?  Took great care of this iMac and now because what seems like a bug from Apple, it's ruined.

  • Macbook Pro screensaver not working in Vosemite

On a brand new Macbook Pro, updated to Yosemite the screensaver does not work properly.. it works ok from a hot corner but on timeout,  it goes to a black screen.
I read about his issue somewhere else but no one offered a solution.

See the System Preferences -> Energy Saver and System Preferences -> Desktop & Screen Saver.
Default setting of Energy Saver for Computer Sleep is 15mins, and Screen Saver start after 20mins.

  • ITunes artwork screensaver not working

Since upgrading to mountain lion, the iTunes artwork screensaver does not work. I get a black screen with the words "your iTunes library doesn't contain any artwork" or something similar. What am I doing wrong?
    Tom

Here's how I solved the problem:
    1.  Go into finder (or windows explorer).
    2.  Find the Album Artwork file within your itunes file (usually "computer name/music/itunes/album artwork")  I noticed that I had 3 files, "cache," "cloud," and "download."  The Cloud file was empty.  But the cache file and download file had the exact same information.
    3.  Open the cache file.  That should reveal a file that is identical to the file that is revealed if you open the Download file.  On my system that file was "5C376133A78DCCBE" (may be different on your system, I don't know)
    4.  Right click your mouse over the 5C376133A78DCCBE file and select copy.
    5.  Go back to the Album Artwork file and open the Download file.
    6.  Right click your mouse over the 5C376133A78DCCBE and select paste.  Let it overwrite/replace the 5C376133A78DCCBE file with the same 5C376133A78DCCBE file.
    7.  Go back to Album Artwork, right click the Cache file, and select "move to trash"
    8.  Quit iTunes (if you had it open).
    9.  Hold down the option key and reopen itunes.
    10. Select "choose library"
    11. Go "computer name/music/iTunes" and select the "iTunes Library.iti" file.
    12. If you see iTunes importing the album artwork, you've done it right.
    13. Test the iTunes Album Artwork screensaver and hopefully it works for you like it did for me!

  • Mosaic screensaver not using the right photos

I'm having a problem with the mosaic screensaver in Leopard.
When I choose a folder of pictures for the screensaver, it works fine in slideshow and collage mode.
However, when I choose mosaic mode, it will display the first image in the folder, but will display images in another folder I was using previously all around it as the mosaic.
This happens in the test and the real screensaver as well. Happens with any other folder I choose, and still happens after restarting. Help!

Update: With some experimenting, I've discovered that it makes the correct photos in mosaic form, but the photos used as parts of the mosaic are all from my iPhoto library!

  • ITunes Screensaver Not Working

    Hi
I cannot get the iTunes Screensaver to work.
It will not appear in the list of options in the System Preferences for screensaver.
The saver files is def there in HD>System>Library>Screensavers.
My iTunes Music Folder is stored on an external HD, and the files "iTunes Library" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" are stored in Home>Music>iTunes as suggested by Apple.
    Anyone got any thoughts?
    Thanks for the help.
    Rob

    Thank you.
You are absolutely right - the cube video card doesnt support Core Image so the itunes and RSS screensavers are disabled.
Seems there is not a work around other than some serious hacking of the graphic card which I am going no-where near!
    Thanks for the help.

  • Preferences, screensaver not working

when i go to preferences, screensaver it says loading images and freezes on that,
i get the spinning wheel, i have to force quit to stop it. how do i fix that?

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Step 2 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. *Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Screensaver/ not working with 2 displays (Boxee, XBMC)?

    Hi there, i've got following setup;
    2011 iMac 27" at 2560x1440 (Display 1)
Sony 42" LCD connected via MiniDV to HDMI at 1920x1080 (Display 2)
Boxee mediaplayer software for OSX (http://www.boxee.tv/make), however the same issues apears with XMBC software (hereafter Mediaplayer)
    Configuration:
    - Mediaplayer has been configurated to use Display 2 only
    - OSX Screensaver is set to kick in within 5 minutes on Main Screen Only (=Display 1)
    - Display sleep is set to kick in at 20 minutes
    Issue description:
    - Mediaplayer works perfectly, plays movies on Display 2
    - However the screensaver does not kick in on Display 1 while Mediaplayer is active, even not after some hours, same for Display sleep
    - FYI there are no overlapping items or windows from Display 1 to 2 and vice-versa.
    Questions:
Does anybody have a clue what could be wrong here?
How can i blank (or at best turn off) Display 1 while watching a movie on Display 2 either by using standard OSX settings or by some utility?
    Thanks

Have had same issues trying to edit HD video with Mac Pro system using ATI Radeon 4870 HD, with latest snow Leopard sw rev. SOMETIMES the card works fine- displaying Final Cut Pro Browser video on my 30" Apple cinema display coming out from the multi pin output of the 4870, and a Sony 46" Bravia for client review, via the mini DVI output, using an Apple purchased Moshi, mini DVI to HDMI converter. An earlier posting suggested that the sequence of booting up was the root cause, but I'm not sure about that. Apple FCP support pointed to plist corruption, which also seemed to resolve the problem for awhile, but again, it resurfaced. Now Apple claim that they will not certify that it will provide HD video out from that configuration (mini DVI to HDMI), which is strange since it works, but not consistently. A friend who has the same card, suggested root cause may be that Quartz Extreme support under my System Profiler / Hardware / ATI Radeon 4870HD is missing! Another person reported that when he upgraded recent SW, it disabled Quartz Extreme- not sure whether this is root cause yet or not. Still not resolved. Suggestions welcome.

  • Screensaver not working since update of Adobe Flash

I have a screensaver that I downloaded last year that won't
work now after the adobe flash install. It gives an error message
of "Macromedia not found". Does anyone have any ideas?

    Force iPad into Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
    5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad. Data will be lost.

  • Screensaver not working since upgrading to Mavericks

As the title says my screensavers doesn't 'kick in' since upgrading to Mavericks at the weekend. I've tried reselecting my chosen photo folder but it still doesn't work. All it does is stay on the desktop screen. Has anyone else had this and know how to fix it?
I'm running an early 2012 (pre retina) MBP 15" with the "classic" style screensaver.
    TIA

I think I've finally fixed this problem. I tried changing the delay time, I tried re-choosing the designated folder, and I even tried re-installing Mavericks and none of it solved the issue.
As a last resort I tried deleting the folder I keep my photos in for the screen saver and created a new one and it appears to working fine now (touch wood).

  • Screensaver not working since OSX Mavericks

My screensavers are not functioning correctly since upgrading to OSX Mavericks.  I've switched screensavers and the times and they show they are functioning in the System Preferneces Menu.  Also, if activate a hot corner where I have screensavers set it works fine.  My power settings work fine as well and my system goes to sleep after an hour which is what I have it set at.  Are there any fixes for the screensavers?

  • AppleTV Screensaver not working

I recently set up a completely new wireless home network.  Finally, after updating router firmware, all of my devices seem to be connecting to the router and communicating with one another except for the Homesharing between my AppleTV (2nd gen) and my computer (MacBook Pro, 2009).  I have done everything Apple says to do about a dozen times - I've turned on homesharing on my MacBook and enabled it on AppleTV.  I've selected which photo albums I want to appear in the AppleTV screensaver.  I've turned all of these functions off, reset AppleTV, rebooted my computer and iTunes, and reset the router.  STILL - i seems AppleTV is not recognizing my computer on the network.  Can anyone help?  I'm ready to tear my hair out here!

    Hey irenefromroseville,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you are not able to update the Apple TV with a new update. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Photo Screensaver Not Working

I use the screensaver that came with my mac that displays my photos. After installing Snow Leopard it doesn't work. When I go to system preferences->Desktop& Screen Saver->Screen Saver and choose any one of my picture folders or library system preferences freezes. Please help. Thank you.

You might want to check in your pictures folder for any aliases to picture files. ScreenSaver in OS X 10.6 has lost the ability to resolves aliases, and selecting a folder with aliases to pictures will either get you a "no pictures found" message or hang the System Prefs app. I don't know if this is your issue but it is worth checking. Navigate to the folder in the Finder in list view and check the View by Kind option to check for any alias files. I can no longer display aliases of jpegs in ScreenSaver.

  • Screensaver not working

I was using an RSS feed of Washington Post as Screensaver and also had it set up to be my lower right Hotcorner...I am now unable to get it to come up as a hot corner or to get the computer to go to screensaver mode. I've tried a more standart screensaver and that doesn't work either. Both the RSS feed and the Beach Scenes screensaver work in test mode. Any ideas?

doesn't matter now, it's messing up so...I'll be doing the archive install between my classes.... If it works I guess this is one solution to the many issues I saw all across here with people having similar problems.
please see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1426820&tstart=0 for any other updated information
