Moshi HDMI Adapter no Output anymore

Hello,
i lend my hdmi adapter to a friend who use ist with a mac (normal).
Since then it did not work any more with my mac book pro (January 2011, Lion)
In the System it shows me my TV (LG) and also in the sound menu.
But there is no Output. No Video no sound.
Sorry for my bad english. :-D

Did it work on your fried's machine?  If so try it there again just to make sure the adapter hasn't failed in some way (although it's strange your audio and display prefs can see the TV).  There's of course plenty of cheap replacments around, for example, from monoprice.com.

My hdmi adapter not working anymore, no physical damage. Solution?
Strange is, that i used it several times, it worked fine. Then wothout any reason (like software updete, etc) it just stopped workung, no sync.
I have not changed any parameters of my TV or Beamer.
    Hardware:
Ipad 2, Apple Ipad HDMI Adapter,  Samsung P2770FH, Optoma HD 65.
    Thanks for any help.

I've only used mine a couple of times without any problem, but due to the thinness of the iPad, care has to be taken in inserting the adapter.  Slightly wrong angle and it won't go it.
I had a laptop a few years ago where the USB connector failed. I had it replaced under the warantee,  The service man told me it was not an uncommom failure on a laptop due to people "torquing" the USB socket while inserting/removing USB items.  I have much the same feeling when inserting either the charger cord or my HDMI adapter.
From your description, unless the HDMI adapter failed internally, it sounds like the socket is causing the problem.  A few days ago we watch our first movie from the iPad via my ATV2 and "Air Play".  Worked great so I don't plan on using the HDMI adapter much at all in the future.  Yes, it is a $99 solution, but it works for me.  Of course, I already had the ATV2.  I doubt if I would buy one just for this abiliity.  If nothing else, it seems like a trip to the Apple Genius bar is in order for maybe a replacement unit.
However, with iOS 5 coming out with supposedly total mirroring, it might be worth thinking about getting an ATV2.

  • Can't see upcoming slide w Moshi HDMI adapter

My Keynote works great with VGA out, see upcoming slide on presenter display.  But when using the HDMI out, with Moshi adapter from Apple, I have lost the abilty to see the upcoming slide.  Only see what is a mirror image of the main display.  Any help??

What is the second HDMI display you are using ?
Have you selected the HDMI input in the menu set up on this second device?
Is Mirror,  deselected in;    Apple > system preferences > displays > arrangement
Have you tried rebooting the mac so that the second display is powered on and switched to HDMI before the Mac is powered on?
Have you tried using the HDMI adapter on another divce to test if it is functioning?

  • 2010 MBP + MOSHI HDMI: RGB 0-255 or RGB Limited Output

Hey, I've been trying to find the answer to the following question online, however, have not had much luck.
    I own:
    2010 MacBook Pro 15" Base
Moshi Mini Display to HDMI (supports audio passthrough)
    Now, onto my question:
When connected to an HDTV via HDMI, does OSX output RGB 0-255 or RGB 15-235?
I just can't tell for myself anymore. For days (not an exaggeration) I have been trying to get a perfect picture when using my MacBook Pro with Boxee on my 40" LCD Television. Is there a way to determine what kind of output signal I'm sending via OSX?
There was a single forum post I came across on the Boxee forums that suggested the 2010 Mac Minis outputted RGB 16-235, however being the only post I could find on the topic, I'm questioning whether or not that information is accurate.
I've spent countless days switching between PC mode on/off, HDMI Black Level Low/Normal in PC Mode, and HDMI Black Level Low/Normal outside of PC mode, and I can't distinguish which combination is the correct combination. Each setting looks OK just until I load up another media file, and then that is either too dark or washed out.
I have also run the Display Calibration Wizard several times. I'm using the default HD profile adjusted to output Gamma at 1.8.
Any help is appreciated, however I would like to stress that I am eagerly looking for an answer to the question in bold.

Could you use a gray scale test pattern and the DigitalColor Meter to determine that?

  • My macbook pro no longer connects to my TV with the mini dvi to hdmi adapter. It was working fine now I cant get it to output to the Tv. Any ideas?

My Macbook pro no longer outputs to my vizio led tv. It was working fine now I cant get any picture. It just says no signal. It is not the hdmi or the adapter because it works fine with my other tv. Any ideas on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated. Please be as specific as possible. Thanks. BTW--I am using the mini dvi to hdmi adapter in case that was unclear.

Since you say that the same connectors work on your other TV is suggests that the fault is not in the connectors but your Vizio TV.  I would check the settings on the Vizio TV.  Verify that is is set to receive HDMI input.  Perhaps you or some one else has inadvertently changed them.  Pressing the wrong buttons on a remote control device can do that.  (I am assuming no changes were made in SYSTEM PREFERENCES>DISPLAYS)
    Ciao.

  • Can I put a Moshi Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (with audio) in a thunderbolt port in the new macBook Pro

    Should work perfectly.

  • My Fall 2009 system DVI output to our HDTV doesn't include audio.  Connecting the Macbook headphone output to the TV's RCA plugs works if TV is in AV (PC) mode, but no picture.  DVI to HDMI adapter to TV works fine for picture, but no audio.

My Fall 2009 model Macbook Pro DVI output apparently doesn't include audion.  Adapting DVI to HDMI works with new LG TV, but doesn't provide sound.  Connecting the Macbook headphone output to the TV's RCA jacks give sound with the TV in AV (PC) mode, but no video.  Is there a fix for this?  Search for a DVI to HDMI adapter that includes a plug for the headphone jack comes up empty, so far.

DVI has never included audio, sorry.
There is also no DVI->HDMI adapter including a plug for audio; such thing cannot work without quite a bit of electronic extra effort.
Instead of much bla-bla, why don't you tell the exact TV model, and we'll try to come up with a solution?
BTW, no home theater AV receiver present, correct? Sound to come from the TV, correct?

  • No choice of sound output with lightning HDMI adapter connected.

When the lightning HDMI adapter is plugged in, sound is piped through HDMI but I want the option to have the sound come through the iPad speaker, because the mini projector I use has only a 1 Watt speaker built-in, and the iPad sound is louder.  Anyone figure out how to choose speaker output?

I don't believe that is possible.
Does the projector have an audio output jack to connect powered speakers?

  • Does the "new iPad" output better picture quality to an HDTV (via HDMI adapter) than the previous iPads? Or is it pretty much the same?

I'm currently using the iPad 2 to review photos and I also mirror it to an HDTV (via HDMI adapter). Does the "new iPad" output a better picture quality using the same connection method? This is mainly in reference to mirroring and not for watching movies/video.

    Wundrbr3d-
I expect that video will be higher resolution since there is also a new HDMI adapter available for the iPad 3.  I do not know if it is required for a lower resolution source, but probably is for higher resolution.

  • Will the HDMI adapter for the Ipad serve as an output AND an input?

I do a lot of video productions and could use an extra moniter on site. The camera I use has an HDMI out, and I noticed there is an HDMI adapter for the Ipad. Would the Ipad recieve/display the signal being sent from my camera? If not, is there another way?

The Apple Digital AV Adapter only output to TV. It cannot be tethered to a camera.

  • HDMI detective vs. MDP-HDMI adapter

I would like to get a new Mac Mini for use as a media server with my TV.  The TV wants HDMI input, but I understand Mac Minis can have problems with the HDMI sleep signal the TV may send when turned off.
I know one solution to this is to use a Gefen HDMI Detective.
Can I also use a Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter to get around this issue?  The Moshi adapter on the Apple Store claims to support sending audio...?  Does that really work, or will I have to have a separate audio cable to the TV?

The Mini Displayport to HDMI adaptor would support sending audio along with the video, I believe it would also better cope with the loss of the signal from the TV when the TV sleeps or is turned off in that when the TV comes back it is more likely that the Mini Displayport will have remained selected and detect this and restore the video. However it will still have two problems.
First, when the Mini Displayport to HDMI adaptor loses the signal from the TV, the audio output from the Mac mini will change back to the default built-in audio output, this would be the same (mis)behaviour that the HDMI port would have. Secondly, when the Mini Displayport loses the signal, it will revert to a lower default resolution and will not stay at for example 1920x1080. I don't know what resolution it would use when the TV signal reappears.
To solve both these problems you would still have to use a HDMI Detective+

  • Does the mini DVI port cary audio if using a Mini-DVI to HDMI Adapter?

    Hello everyone,
I've heard it is possible for a DVI port to transmit audio data to a HDMI connection if a DVI to HDMI cable is used, which will allow the sending of both audio and video to your TV. see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DigitalVisualInterface
I'm assuming this is not possible using apples mini DVI port, but just wanted to check to make sure. My main goal is to get surround sound out of my powerbook. To do this by simply adding a Mini-DVI to HDMI Adapter would be GREAT!

    Hi Jonathan,
I'm assuming this is not possible using apples mini DVI port
Yup, no audio, unfortunately. The audio will have to transmitted separately via the analog audio output.

  • How to connect sound or audio to my tv using hdmi adapter. I tried to connect thru sound settings but my tv is not found.

how to connect sound to my tv set using hdmi adapter. Im using 2009 macbook pro 13". I went to sound settings then output and it shows internal speaker built- in, it wont locate my tv set. pls. help, thanks

You probably can't because it looks like your MacBook Pro is too old to carry audio over HDMI. You will need to run a separate audio cable from the audio out port on the MacBook Pro to the audio in port on the TV.
Check your MacBook Pro model year against the list in this Apple tech note:

Yeah, I'm having the same exact problem - It seems that the thunderbolt minidisplay port is only able to output the analog VGA signal, not the digital signal to support DVI and HDMI. This is a bug that came up after installing 10.7.1. I bought my macbook air with 10.7 on it, upgraded it to 10.7.1 as soon as I got it, so I have never been able to use hdmi or dvi with my macbook air. This is an extremely frustrating problem for me, I used HDMI on a daily basis with my PC. I have spent many hours at the genius bar running diagnostic tests so Apple can get as much information as possible to create a fix for this problem. I have been emailing tech support for 3 or so weeks now, they keep saying that they are working on a fix and it should be out soon, but 10.7.2 has come and gone and I still have no HDMI functionality with my MacBook Air!

  • Hey Guys, from Germany. I want to connect my iMac 21" with my Tv just for fun. Does anyone know, how it works. With a Hdmi adapter?

Hey guys! I want to connect my Imac 21 " with my Tv just for fun. Does anyone know , how it works?

Selecting the correct adapter and cable depends on which year model iMac you have and what inputs the TV has?
Check the User's Guide that came with your iMac or your Spec's at > Apple - Support - Technical Specifications
to see if your iMac has a Mini-DVI or Mini DisplayPort and then select that adapter with the correct connection for the TV.
Example: if you have a 2010 or 2011 iMac and an HDMI ready TV, then you would want the > Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support - Apple Store (U.S.)
