Most Bizarre - Media files playing nasty tricks on me

This is most bizarre and most frustrating.
When open FCE I get the following message
Offline Files Box
Some of the media your project references has either changed, moved or gone away. You can either reconnect these files, or continue with them being offline.
I swear, I have not so much as looked at these files.
When I reconnect these files, they change. For example, Clip #014 now displays different video.
This happens every time I open FCE.
Does anyone know what is going on and how I can fix this. I’m worried most of my clips are no corrupt. I'm at my wits end.

Assuming you haven't altered or moved the clips I have no idea what is happening.
Have you trashed the preferences?
That should be an automatic reflex action the moment anything peculiar starts happening to FCE but you must do it as described.
Alternatively if you would like a free app to do it for you download this:-

One of many vital things you haven't mentioned is the precise format of the problem files together with your Easy Setup and Sequence Settings.

  • 6085 - Media File Playing

My 6085 has been playing media files with no problems but seems to have a problem playing a .wav file I have recently had sent to me. Is there a maximum file size it can play of this type?
Plays MP3 and smaller .wav no problem but as this file appears bigger than others just wondered if this may be a problem. If not could someone maybe suggest what the problem might be - are there different types of .wav files for example?
Thanks in advance for any response.

I am looking into this as well.
there are two approaches that I am considering:
I presume you want to read from the beginning of the file when it is about 10 mins long, but you will be recording for about an hour, as an example.
Close off the file and create a new one when you start playing..
    or - a trickier solution....
Clone the datasource somehow so that there is a delay-buffer, allowing you to start playing from the beginning on the clone.
I am goning to attempt the latter first, as it seems more adventurous, but to be honest, under JMF, I don't think that it can be done.

  • Media file type, how to pick player IN BROWSER LINKS ??

I hit an mp3 link in Safari, it opens a new tab to play it using what I think is a version of iTunes (it has a 30-sec button on the front?). Same in Firefox, though I get a window with Quicktime instead (big Q before playing).
*How on earth do I get the mp3 to play in an EXTERNAL player, preferably Realplayer?* So I don't leave the webpage where the mp3 link is.
...in Windows, you could select the media player of you choice and setup the file associations to go with each one under a "media types" options panel or suchlike. Though on my Mac I tried this by opening "Get Info" for a different saved mp3 on my machine, selecting "open with" > Realplayer > Change All, and it works for all ones stored ON MAC. However in Safari and Firefox, I hit an mp3 in a webpage and it does NOT open in Realplayer (just plays in the browser, so I can't read the rest of the page the file was on)??
How do I set the file-type media files play with in browser windows?
    aaagh, it's soooo annoyong?!?!

I think you miss my issue.
I already KNOW I can download the mp3 then play it in Realplayer. But how do I get it to just open the mp3 and play straight into RP (or any other EXTERNAL player outside of the browser if RP can't be used for some reason) WITHOUT downloading the file to Downloads??
I just want to click the link in the middle of the webpage, eg.
*Blah blah blah blah, and here is my track samples:*
    anysongsample1.mp3
    anysongsample2.mp3
    anysongsample3.mp3
    anysongsample4.mp3
    anysongsample5.mp3
    anysongsample6.mp3

*Blah blah blah blahvBlah blah blah blahv*

...if I have hundreds of tracks to go through, I don't want to dl them, just play without dl-ing them. I could do this easily in Windows, so how Mac??

  • Windows Media File Stops at Start!

    Hello
    Can someone please help.
I have a windows media file playing on my stage when the
playhead enters the frame. I'm trying to get the WMF to play
through to the end and stop, instead of returning to the first
    frame and stopping.
Does anybody know how I can achieve this?
    Thanks in advance.

You want to check the movieTime in an exitFrame handler,
    rather than just
    once when the sprite begins:
    property thisSprite
    property thisDuration
    on beginSprite me
    thisSprite = sprite(me.spriteNum)
    thisDuration = thisSprite.member.duration
    end
    on exitFrame
    if thisSprite.movieTime > thisDuration -15 then
    thisSprite.stop()
    end if
    end

  • Media file error message trying to play files from WDMycloud on ipad

I am using a WDMyCloud networked hard drive to provide cloud backup for my Windows PCs. This backup includes my Itunes music library
Using the WDMyCloud app on my iPad(or iPhone) I can see the library is succesfully backed up onto WDMy Cloud and can see all expected songs listed.
Unfortunately when I try to open some of them on my iPad or iPhone using the WDMyCloud app I get an error message "Unable to play this media file". Some files do open OK
File formats are mostly .m4a or otherise .mp3 and I have experience of problems with both types of files.
I used to be able to play all WDMyCloud stored media files without any problem on my iPad/iPhone devices, and I am not aware of changing anything in iTunes/WDMyCloud or my Apple devices other than ensuring I keep up with the latest released software/version.
Interestingly, I copied a couple of files that would not play into Dropbox onto my PC. I then looked for them on my iPad and iPhone usingWDMycloud app and looked into synced Dropbox folder in WDmy Cloud and found the files and hey presto they play OK.
They also play on my iPad and iPhone if I go direct to the Dropbox app itself.
Finally,I can also access my WDmyCloud via my Samsungsmart TV since it is on the same home network and and the "problem"  files will play OK on the TV.
With my limited technical knowledge, its not clear that there is any difference between the files that play and those that don't.
Grateful for any advice on what I might be able to do to fix it so all my files will play
    Many thanks

I see. I understand Cisco just recently released this model in the market so probably there would be more tests to be done for further isolation and come up with a fix solution if proven to be really an issue. I guess for now we'll stand by for updates and just make the best out of Cisco's one of the top of the line routers.

  • Itunes seems to be unable to locate original file to play songs. Songs are in the itunes media file and playable direct from file. Preferences/advance file location is correct. Some files are playing and others aren't with no obvious pattern.

Itunes is unable to locate original file when attempting to play music. Songs are in the itunes media file and playable direct from there. Preferences/Advanced file location pointer is correct. Some songs play but most don't. I did move files around a bit in an attempt to share music with another account on same computor, however this did not work so have returned file to original location. Please help, I am way outside my feild in this one. Ta.

I have solved the problem. i think when I moved the media file back out of public to my account, I put it back into the wrong place and ended up with a media file inside a media file, inside another media file!! So I moved it again and fixed!! Now I just need to work out why i can't share with another account user of same computor.

  • "error loading media-file could not be played"-when viewing webcams

When trying to load a webcam, picture loads but will not stream.
The following error message appears "error loading media-file could not be played"
Everything functions when using Google Chrome.
Any help would be much appreciated. The operating system is Vista.

Thank you for you reply - much appreciated.
I am a bit confused - if I do not have a player installed, how come that everything is OK when I use Google Chrome as a browser?
    Many thanks,

  • Wma files getting error message the media being played is of an unsupported format

I have tried many methods of moving wma files from my pc to my 8310.  Some work and others trigger the error message "the media being played is of an unsupported format"  Why some work and other don't is mysterious to me.

See this KB for supported media formats:
KB05482 Media types supported on the BlackBerry smartphone
Now, that is for the native BB media player...if you are using this app you say you installed, then your query needs to be addressed to the app developer...
    Hope that helps!

  • Media file (quicktime) not playing when Pages document is saved as a pdf

I added a quicktime file (a movie trailer) to my presentation and it plays when in Pages - but when I export it to a pdf it is just a black space. 1. are these links/media files are supposed to be active when in a pdf format 2. how can I get the media file to play when it is saved as a pdf? 3. Will those who I email it to be able to play the media file when they open it up on their computer?
thanks so much in advance - I am under a tight deadline so any help would be appreciated!

Multimedia is not embedded in exported .pdf files.
You will need to relink them again in the .pdf using Adobe Acrobat Pro.

  • Any way of getting Real Media files to play in Front Row?

I was just wondering if there is any way to get Real Media files to play in Front Row? I realise this is probably not possible, but I thought I'd ask people who know more about this than me!!
I do have Real Player installed if that helps......

Probably not right now. Since Front Row uses iPhoto to play slideshows, the DVD Player to play DVDs, iTunes to play MP3s and the QuickTime Player to play videos, there's no way now to change the default video player application. All of those connections are hard-wired into the software. Apple has not released any kind of SDK (software development kit) for third parties to add on to Front Row, so it would have to be an unauthorized hack to get another video player to run. I might suggest you send Apple some Mac OS X feedback and let them know you'd like to see third party add-ons to Front Row.

  • Quicktime movies will not play if I delete 'media' files

I have created several Quicktime movies so that I can see the movies after I delete the imported media files which are quite large. But after I delete those files I cannot play the Quicktime movie. I get messages saying that the parts cannot be found. If I reinstall the 'media' files, the movie plays again. It seems that the Quicktime movie is somehow linked to the media files. This shoudn't be, should it?
I might add that I was able to export a web size file and sucesessfully upload it to YouTube though.

Well, I'm just saving the movie to the desktop and then trying to play it back after I've deleted the media files.
If by "saving" you mean you are using the "Save As..." QT Pro (or similar menu option) to create a very, very small "reference rather than "standalone" file, then this is your problem. Such a work flow merely creates a QT MOV file that points to the original "media" as the "resource" for playback. Thus all files must be kept on hand for playing. Even moving the resource files from one location to another can break the "path reference" and prevent the files from opening/playing. You best solution is to export your files to a target compression format that meets your playback needs. E.g., if you source media files are DV or AIC (large files), you can export them as "Medium" H.264/AAC files which can be easily viewed on your computer iPod, and/or TV device but take up only a fraction of the original space.

  • Safari won't play all media files.

As the title says I can't play all media files on different web sites. Web sites like SoundCloud and YouTube gives a message about Flash blocker browser setting/plugin error etc. Some files can be played and some can't but this matter only concerns video and audio files. When I go to 'Help -> Installed Plug-ins' there's a '(protected)' text in the 'QuickTime plug-in' list right after 'AAC Audio - m4p' and 'Video - m4v'. I think there's the problem but how can I edit these settings?
This problem came up after downloading the version of Adobe Flash Player. I have installed the latest Adobe Flash Player again and tried to reboot my Mac but it's not helping. I also found doubles of Flash Player from 'Macintosh HD -> Library -> Internet Plug-Ins' folder and deleted older file but neither that didn't help.
This is the QuickTime plug-in list copied from Safari's 'Installed Plug-ins' page:

  • Can no longer play windows media files

I recently upgraded to version 10.6.8 of Mac OS X and I can no longer play embedded Windows Media files using Flip4Mac (version 2.3.8.1) on Safari or FireFox. Any suggestions on a workaround?

You might need to reinstall it, have you tried that?
