Most efficient and cost effective way to set up HD monitor through FCP

i have a G5 and a MacBook Pro and would like to monitor on an HD TV/Monitor.
do i need one of these to do so?
http://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/mxo2/
http://www.aja.com/html/products_Io.html
i used to run firewire to my camera, then out to my TV to monitor. not gonna work for HD...right?
thanks all for any advice!

Well, the MXO2 will work with the MacBook Pro, but not the G5. Want one that works with both? Try the original Matrox MXO. Connects via DVI. Then you can use a computer monitor (one you might already have) to do this:
http://magazine.creativecow.net/article/matrox-mxo-broadcast-monitoring-on-a-des ktop-monitor
The I/O HD will work with both, but that costs over $3000. The MXO is $995. It has component outs too, if you want to hook that to an HDTV.

  • Easiest and cost effective way to bringing VHS and Hi-8 video into iMovie?

I have family videos on VHS and Hi-8 camera that I'd like to archive for iMovie making in the future. Can someone please suggest some hardware and/or software that I'd need to buy/use to achieve this? Thanks in advance!!!
    James

I am converting 20 year old family VHS tapes to work on iMovie 08.
I am using a plain old VCR with RCA jack output. (but it would also work with a coax connection).
It connects to a device called the EyeTV Hybrid. The EyeTV Hybrid is marketed as a way to watch and record over-the-air HD TV through your Mac, but it also does a great job on importing VHS. I would only recommend EyeTV hybrid on Intel Macs or higher. For a G5, you may need the more expensive EyeTV product that offloads some of the processing from the computer. I got the EyeTV Hybrid from Amazon, after reading many reviews there, and learning about its existence from an Apple store employee who had one for her own use.
From the EyeTV Hybrid software, which imports the VHS to my firewire drive as an MPEG-2 file, I can export to a DV file. This file can be imported into iMovie 08. I recommend splitting your clips into events using the EyeTV software before importing, because it is difficult to split clips that came from analog once they are in iMovie 08.
It does a great job, and with a $30 antenna, I can also watch TV on my Mac.
Also, I plan to archive my unedited VHS tapes onto DVD using Toast 8 Titanium. The EyeTV software will export the MPEG 2 files to Toast directly.

I have a small production client looking to run 1 workstation running Mac Lion 10.7.3 and two work stations running Windows7 64 bit. They will all be talking to the same storage array through 8Gb FC. What is there most cost effective way to do this?

    Thank you for your help.
The client has already made the jump to 8Gb including HBA's, switch and RAID Storage.
The other question will be if they need a seperate Mac Server to run the Meta Data or are they able to use the current Mac they are running to do this?
The Mac is a 201073 model they say with 12 Dual Core 2.66Mhz processors and 16 GB of Memory. This system is currently doing rendering. It has the XSAN Client but I understand for the solution to work they need to also run XSAN Server on a MDC.

  • What is the most cost effective way to have a broken screen repaired?

What is the most cost effective way to have a broken screen repaired?

One thing to bear in mind, if your iPad is still under any sort of warranty, using any unauthorized repair place may void that.
So you may find less expensive places that are non-authorized, but once you use them, Apple disowns your device and if you have any warranty left, it'll be void.

  • Best Cost effective way of fixing shattered iPhone

    Hi all
My Mom recently dropped her phone (a short distance at that) and had the front of her iphone4 crack into a few good splits. The phone itself is still completely functionally sound, it just has a shattered glass front. I believe when we went to the apple store they said they could get her a replacement for $150 (or maybe that was AppleCare+?) but that there was another option to send it to iResQ for $90. Can any of you tell me the most cost effective method of getting this screen fixed?
    Thank you!

If you do the out-of-warranty replacement you will have a warranty on the service replacement phone (90 days or what was left of the warranty on her phone, whichever is longer). 3rd party repair will be cheaper but there will be no warranty.

  • My phone goes off in any time of the day and the only way to get it back is through pressing and holding of Home and Sleep button together

Like I said in the subject line:
My brand new iPhone 4S/32Gb goes off in any time of the day and the only way to get it back to live is through pressing and holding of the Home and Sleep button together for 5-10 seconds.
Does anybody have that kind of problem as well?
    Thank you.

I restored it on I tunes as well did something on the phone. The lastest seems to have helped it but I haven't used it much yet!  Thanks for the help & I'll let you know!

  • HT1386 I have an older Mac at home (Power PC), where I recently loaded some CD music. I can't sync with my iphone, because I can't load the latest iTunes on the Mac. What's the easiest, most cost-effective way to make the CD's available to play on my phon

Syncing music on older Mac with iPhone.

Good work, I'd try Wifi & see, but not sure the 5s even does regular file tranfer, maybe just Syncing, which requires 10.6.8 & a slew of newer iTunes, QT, etc... all out of the question for our G5s.
If nothing else, you should be abe to setup Internet Sharing on the G5 to save money anyway...
Sys Prefs>Sharing>Internet Sharing, set it up.
To see that you can easily getback to exactly where you are now, first...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Meaning Ethernet on top, Airport/Wifi undeneath, then setup Internet Sharing in that Location.

  • Photo Management, what is most efficient and practical?

I'm somewhat new to Macs. I have simply been downloading my digital photos directly to iPhoto, however, once in there, they are hard to manage, duplicate files are created. When you move photos, they need to be re-imported. Can someone tell me how they manage their photos, do you use iPhoto or simply import photos you want to edit or manipulate to iPhoto, etc....

    Hi,
I'd get GraphicConverter gives way more options...

The Browse folder is great, and so much more you can do with it.
I dislike everything about iPhoto myself.

  • Process Orders Types and Costing effect.

    Dear All,
I have a query regarding the order type in process orders.
There is an order type "Rework",. It can be used by the production people for some material(s) that may need only minute/little rework.
Can anyone please help me to understand that if production guys instead of using order type as "rework" again assign the main work order type for the process orders that were basically meant for rework then what will be its cost implications.?
Is this type is required to differentiate b/w the originally processed and reworked orders only and there is no other implications / consequences ?
Hope, I am able to put my confusion here clearly.
Thanking all you guys in advance.
    Regards,
    Yasir Shaikh.

    Wsalam Ajay.
Thank you, I have been learning a lot from this forum and specially from you.
Being new to CO, I believe it will take me some time to get used to the technical terms. please tell me that how to check the cost of rework specific to a CC, I am also unable to understand the 2nd part related to settlement object.
PS, I was of the view that because if we use the default order type for a rework order, then keeping in mind our policy to valuate material at standard cost, we are overcasting / overvaluing our inventory.
Please correct me as even I am confused on this.
For example. For material AAA, and for Output of 1 Unit of AAA, we need 2 units of input material X, 2 units of input material Y, and 2 Units of input material Z. And now we have received material AAA for rework which only needs 1 units of material A .
Now, if we will use default order type and not rework order type then by showing output of 1 unit of material AAA, it will be costed on a standard cost of material X, Y and Z for each 2 units.
After this point , I am getting confused that if it is only a small consumption of new material then how can we assign the AAA with full cost of one unit of AAA.
    Thanking you.
    Yasir Shaikh.

  • What's the most effective way to speed up AVCHD video editing?

    Hello Everyone,
I'm having the same problem, my wife and I have a small wedding videography company, I film jobs on weekends when I'm not working full time and my wife stays home with our 2 year old daughter and edits during the week.
When jobs come in we both are using our macbook pro's for the import process because it takes SOOO long to import all the avchd clips.  We're filming with the Panasonic HMC40 shooting in 720/30p on Class 10 16GB SDHC Cards.
I have an early 2008 macbook pro, 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo 2GB of ram, and my wife has a 2010 unibody with a dual core i5 w/ 4GB of ram.
As a test, I imported an 8 minute and 47 second clip in my machine, and the import takes 20:39.  I went to my local apple store and ran the same import test on brand new machines and here are the results:
mbp Core 2 duo 2GB ram time: 20:39 (my machine)
mbp dual core i5 4GB ram time: 7:08 (my wife's machine)
mbp quad core i7 4GB ram time: 4:50
    mba core 2 duo 1.86Ghz 2GB ram SSD 64GB drive time: 12:17
imac quad core 2.7Ghz 4GB ram time: 4:54
    imac quad core 2.8Ghz 3GB ram 4:27
    mac pro 2.8Ghz 3GB ram 3:42
I watched the quad core i7 macbook pro's performance monitor, and at one point it had 63 iMovie threads running to import the footage.  The biggest bottleneck for importing avchd seems to be the processor.  With an import time of about have of the real time, that has the biggest appeal to me, but comes at a starting price of $1799 + tax, and is expensive.
What I'm looking for is the most cost effective way to cut down on import and export times for either new hardware or software.  I haven't tested the elgato h.264 HD encoder yet, nor have I tested the new Final Cut X.  Has anyone done this? What about Adobe Premier Elments or Premier Pro
Our compeditors are offering 'same day edit' services, and making basically a trailer of the events that happen at the ceremony, then editing them on site in a 3-4 hour time window between the ceremony and reception, then using a projector and screen to show that trailer at the beginning of the reception, usually added to the slide show.
That's the kind of thing that we want to be able to do for our customers, but also to cut down the massive amount of editing time it takes to get every finished product out the door.
What does everyone think?  Is the elgato h.264 HD encoder worth it?  Is there a more professional avchd / h.264 hardware / software solution that can speed up the import process faster?
I'd love to know everyone's thoughts.
    Thanks.

    One thing you might consider...
Go to Final Cut Pro X.
In FCP 10, you can import AVCHD and begin editing immediately. You can edit natively in AVCHD if your needs are very simple, but most people would use FCP to "optimize" the AVCHD to ProRes 422, which is an intermediate codec like Apple Intermediate Codec, but provides higher quality. The optimizing to ProRes 422 as well as analyzing for stabilization, sound, and color takes place in the background if you have cores available.
But you can edit immediately, and as the optimized clips become available, FCP will automatically use them instead of the AVCHD clips.

  • Magic Mouse: Eneloop Really More Cost Effective than Lithium?

Hi. Under heavy use, gaming or doing professional work for 16 hours a day at most is it really more environment friendly and cost effective to put Lithium disposable batteries like Everyready's Ultimate?
Supposing you used a calculated cost of having the Sanyo charger + four Sanyo Eneloops + trickle charge (although rechargeables can be charged many times which could last you decades. I think 80+ years. Having four Eneloops is realistic because, you need two extra Eneloops in the ready) vs. the Ultimate, how much would their cost be?
By the way, how long does Eneloop last if you use it heavily? The Lithium Ultimate performs so much better than alkaline (it's only at 94% after a month. The Advanced Alkaline was only at 3 weeks before it had to be replaced at 10% or risk having a leak if it's not replaced),
    Gbu,
    Alvin

For me, yes. Buying new batteries every few weeks got old. The eneloops are great and last about as long as the copper-tops I was using (which lasted about a month). I think I calculated saving money about the 5th month. B&H Photo has them for about $20.

  • I am proposing to upgrade the 4GB RAM in my Mac Mini 2.5 GHz core i5, by replacing it with 2 x 8GB Crucial 'slots'. Will the performance be significantly better than if I upgrade with 2 x 4GB slots? Is it cost effective, is the question.

My Mac Mini (2.5GHz Core i5) came with 4GB RAM, and I now wish to upgrade the RAM to either 8GB or 16GB in total (Crucial). Clearly, there is a price difference separating the two, but would this be justified by the extent of the improvement in performance, if I went for the more expensive option of 16GB RAM?
Secondly, if I am allowed to pose two questions: what seems to be the most compliant, reliable and cost effective external hard drive for this or Mac Mini's more generally? I was thinking of purchasing a 3TB HD for storing my rather large collection of photographs and Logic Pro 9 musical endeavours.
Your experience and advice would be appreciated, my having only recently made the switch from a Windows system to Mac.

I 150% agree with dwb and woodmeister50 about WD hard drives. They are NOWHERE near the quality they should be. When you can get a Seagate for just a few dollars more, and they last years longer, NO ONE should buy a WD. I lost $25,000 worth of music and audiobooks on a six-week-old WD in 2007 and that was the last I'd ever buy from them. They REFUSED to warranty it with the ORIGINAL sales receipt from Bestbuy.
I have 16Gb of Crucial RAM in my Mini and here's what I've discovered.
You WON'T see "lightning fast" performance increases, becasue the Mini is pretty darned fast to begin with. What you WILL see is that when you're running RAM intensive apps like Photoshop or Parallels, other apps won't "bog down".
Quite frequently I find myself with less than half a gig of free RAM out of that 16. When it was only 8 I was at 100% nearly ALL THE TIME. When I only had the 4 it came with, it was always maxed out.

  • Most Efficient Adapter

    Hi All,
I am interested to know that for example if we are asked to transfer data in below scenarios which adapters are most efficient and why.
    ECC to Third Party system
Third Party to Third Party system
    Third Party to ECC system
Say you have the choice to choose which Third Party system you would recommend to the client for most efficient data transfer and why would that be? From all the standard SAP adapters like File or SFTP or SOAP or JMS or JDBC. I do understand that business need would come up as the first criteria but if are solely responsible for suggesting the client which is the best option. Transfer data from DB using JDBC or simple File transfer or SFTP or via web using SOAP adapater. Also do mention your reason for such suggestion.
    Regards,
    Shaibayan

    Hi,
Check with your third party system ,what protocol it supports .
Some only supports FTP if they have file server installed in there machine .If the third party system is outside your BLAN then you need to make sure ports open b/w your machine and third machine to communicate .We do have FTP/SFTP/FTPS flavors in file transfer .
If they want to insert into there db then you can propose for JDBC/SOAP.
If they want to communicate from web then propose HTTP/HTTPS
If they have JMS queues/Topics go with JMS
When comes to SAP ECC it supports IDoc/RFC/Proxy
give 1st preference to Proxy for async scenarios,if you have standard IDoc then go with IDoc.If you have huge payload go with proxy.
//ly for synchronous scenarios go with proxy first,if insisted for rfc then go with that.
Frankly speakings many factors will impact on coming to conclusion .Discussions with end systems/business req narrow down the options.
    Regards
    Venkat
