Most fonts dissapear on Mac Chrome

Here is my site
http://www.crmbz.com
If i load on my mac using Chrome the majority of the fonts are not visible. If I hit refresh they then become visible. Im lost??? Works fine on safari on Mac. Just not chrome until i refresh. Also i removed my brief video that plays within the phone and fonts show up ok. So think it has something to do with video embedd. How can I fix this?

Hi,
I'm having exactly the same problem on a couple of my sites. Chrome won't load fonts, whereas safari and firefox do it fine. I don't want to add a preloader widget as jermerqua did.
I've attached some screen shots of what it's showing and what it should be. It's affecting the bold on the Rosemary English site and all the (Montserrat font) text in the lightbox pop-up.
How can I fix it?
Thanks, James

It does not hapen in PC systems, ever!
How do we go about replacing the damaged fonts?
I treid to delete and reinstall but no sucess.
Also, Mac systems can only have active about 250 fonts.
PC systems can have up to 1,000 fonts and run very smoothly with any hitches.
    Any sloutions or recommendations?
Looks like I made a wrong choice.
I thought that Mac systems was very stable when it comes to graphic related applications, but it seems that I was WRONG.

Sorry if I have offended other Mac users.
But, I would really like to continue using my Macbook Pro.

How is it that fonts in the Mac system can be damaged?
As ds store noted. Any file on any part of the drive can be damaged at any time. This is true of any OS, not just the Mac.
It does not happen in PC systems, ever!
Why in the world would you think that's true? I used DOS/Windows for years. Fonts on PCs get damaged too, for pretty much the same reasons.
How do we go about replacing the damaged fonts?
You can replace just the fonts from your Snow Leopard installation disk. See the bottom of my article, Font Management in OS X for instructions.
I tried to delete and reinstall but no success.
Not enough info. Reinstalled from where?
Also, Mac systems can only have active about 250 fonts.
I don't know where you read or heard that, but it's 100% wrong.
PC systems can have up to 1,000 fonts and run very smoothly with any hitches.
And I've had as many as 8500 active (for testing, I would never do it day to day). Do I win?
    Any solutions or recommendations?
The most likely reason, assuming you replaced the fonts with known good copies is Font Book. Put bluntly, it's one of the worst font managers available. It's database is easily corrupted. When that happens, fonts that are marked as active in its interface won't appear in some, or all apps. You'll find you can't activate or deactivate fonts. Use these steps to clean Font Book up so it works.
Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding the Shift key until you see a progress bar towards the bottom of the screen. You can let go of the Shift key at that point.
OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally. This will clear Font Book's database and the cache files of the user account you logged into in Safe Mode.
After the Mac finishes booting back to the desktop from Safe Mode, do the following to clear the rest of the font cache files.
Close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
Terminal will then ask for your admin password. As you type, it will not show anything, so be sure to enter it correctly.
This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and the current user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.
Looks like I made a wrong choice.
As opposed to what? Dealing with viruses each and every day?
I thought that Mac systems was very stable when it comes to graphic related applications, but it seems that I was WRONG.
Boy, you sure know how to make people want to help you.
A simple font base also Mac system cannot handle as well as a PC based system.
Also flat out wrong. Fonts are simple. You add them and use them. Turn them off when you don't want them active. Learning and understanding a new OS is usually a good idea before you start trashing it.
If problems return soon after resetting Font Book with the notes above, then you most likely installed junk fonts. Free fonts are worth what you paid for them and are the number one source of such problems on both Macs and PCs.
Secondly, get rid of Font Book. If you use and manage fonts every day, get a professional manager. Suitcase Fusion 4 and FontExplorerX Pro are your best choices.

  • Fonts dissapearing, or not displaying correctly?

So I have a 17 inch MB Pro and recently I have been having font issues. I don't really know what happened, it just sort of started. When looking at some fonts, such as the default Safari font, or the Subject: line in mail.app, appear like a bunch of numbers, and other random things. I thought that this was because I was somehow missing certain fonts. So, I checked http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301332, and found that I was missing a few fonts, mainly Comic Sans MS and some Asian characters. So I downloaded them, and installed them in the corect directories. But I still get the text garbled problem. I was wondering if anyone has a solution? Am I still missing a vital system font? Or is their something more serious wrong? Could one of my fonts be corrupt? And more importantly how do I fix this? I could not find a Apple sponsered font download package. Does it exist? Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if you would like me to provide more info, screen shots, etc, respond with request.
    THANKS!

You may have damaged fonts then. Follow the instructions at the bottom of my article, Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther, to replace all of the fonts supplied by Apple with fresh copies from the OS X installation disks that came with your Mac. Then once again, clear the font cache files.
The link, or one of the links above directs you to my personal web site. While the information is free, it does ask for a contribution. As such, I am required by Apple's rules for these discussions to include the following disclaimer.

I have installed IPA fonts on my MAC with OSX mountain lion. Unfortunately if i open the .ppt file where the professor has written the symbols i see just a "private use f8ff" and if i try to change the font nothing happens. Could you help me?
Here you can see an image of what i see:

Thank you very much in advance
    Regards

Possible the font has embedding restrictions? Nope, scratch that. Just looked in FontLab Studio. There are no embedding restrictions.
Just a note. Rather than hosting the small screen shots on tinypic, you can add them to your post here by clicking the camera icon on the editor window bar.
    Like this:

  • Embedded fonts dissapear (a bit complicated, read on...)

    This is the actual case:
There is an SWF which contains just a font to be used by many other SWFs, it is here:
    ./SharedRessources/ComicFont.swf
Then there is one SWF which imports this font for runtime use:
    ./Selector/Selector.swf
And another one which also imports this font for runtime use:
    ./Menu/Menu.swf
They both import the font "for runtime use" and this, relative path: "../SharedRessources/ComicFont.swf".
This works for both Selector.swf and Menu.swf quite well. The font is displayed correctly.
BUT now there is this one:
    ./Everything/Everything.swf
This one loads Selector.swf and Menu.swf BOTH. The result is: The embedded font dissapears!
The funny thing: If I only load ONE of them, the font is visible.
So: Having 2 SWFs loaded simultaneously which make use of a font which is "shared for runtime use" destroys it for both.
Anyone encountered this problem yet? Any simple workarounds? The not-so-simple workaround would be to do it all directly via Actionscript and letting the Container hold all the ressources. But this would just be very comfortable.
OR could this even be filed as a bug?

After fiddeling around with the code, I actually found a solution:
The Font is embedded as a class, "ComicFont". So using the Loader class the usual way to load more than one module that uses this Font will cause the ComicFont class to be overwritten (and thus lost to the module loaded before)
I ran a test like this for every module loaded:
for each (li:LoaderInfo in loaderInfos) { // for simplicity: Imagine I have all LoaderInfos of all loaded submodules here
      trace ("Has class ComicFont? "+li.hasDefinition('ComicFont'));
Doing it the nomal, lazy way, this would output:
    Has class ComicFont? false
    Has class ComicFont? false
    Has class ComicFont? false
    Has class ComicFont? true
So it seems just the last module actually contained the ComicFont class. No wonder the font disappeared for all the other modules.
The "trick" was to set the applicationDomain inside the Loader:
    var ld:Loader = new Loader();
    var context:LoaderContext = new LoaderContext();
    context.applicationDomain = ApplicationDomain.currentDomain;
    ld.load(new URLRequest(swfName), context);
Now the fonts appear in every module and the output of the loop above is:
    Has class ComicFont? true
    Has class ComicFont? true
    Has class ComicFont? true
    Has class ComicFont? true
I hope this could help someone...

  • Free Font Viewer For Mac OSX

Font Sampler for Mac OSX is a small freeware utility to help you view your fonts. Font Sampler allows you to view all your fonts in one big list. It supports different colors of backgrounds and text, size, your own custom phrase to view the fonts in, and the ability to underline the fonts.

I can understand why they make it look like that, but the older versions are free, it's just the new pre-release that actually requires it, you can skip the donation here...

  • How do I install .PFM and .PFB fonts on my mac?

So that they are available to all applications?

.pfm/.pfb are Windows Type I fonts and cannot be used by OS X. You must acquire Mac versions or convert them to TTF or another kind of font which the Mac can use. Apps that might do this are Fontlab and Fontforge.

  • How can I change font name on Mac to be compatible with PC?

    Hi,
My font names on my new Macbook does not match with PC and my previous Macbook. For example, "CordiaUPC" on PC and my old Macbook is called "UPC-Cordia" on my new Macbook. So all my saved documents where font was set as "CordiaUPC" is now unreadable, and I have to reset the font to "UPC-Cordia" when I open it. The issue is, I am a writer and I have to submit my writing to people who use PC's. Then when they open my document, it appears like it cannot be read. It is super inconvenient.
Does anyone know how I can change the name of the fonts in the Font Book? I tried selecting like when I rename the files but it didn't work.
    Thanks.

Are you using the same font file on Your Mac as the PC users are? Meaning, that the font file was copied/installed from a PC to your Mac's /Library/Fonts or ~/Library/Fonts folder or did you install the Mac version of the font on your Mac. You can try flushing the font cache for your Mac with a utility like Cocktail or Onyx to see if that resolves the naming problem.

  • How do I safely download Friz Quadrata font to my mac? where to download and where do I put it?

how do I safely download Friz Quadrata font to my mac? where to download and where do I put it?

Thanks for the help. I guess I am so afraid of some awful malware sneaking in, that I hesitate to go to any website and download stuff (learned a terrible lesson with MacKeeper! ... but that's another story). I took a deep breath, backed up my system, went to cooltext.com and downloaded Friz Quadrata. Then I made sure that it was in my font folder (which I found using Searchlight) and I moved it to the Modern Folder. I then restarted my Mac, and there it was! I is still not listed in Word, but if I go to the font tab and open "Font Collections," there it is. Everything seems to be working; I've used the font now and no crashes or freezes. Will keep you updated if some bad stuff happens. Thanks so much for giving me the courage to do this!!

  • Why are fonts very rough in Chrome but fine in the other browsers?

I just started using BrowserLab about an hour ago (5/5/2011 2030 CST).
I am not using the Dreamweaver integration, I'm just going to the BrowserLab site and using the facilities.
The page, on one of my sites, I choose to look at first (http://www.sugarcatsimon.com) looks just about the same in all browsers except for Chrome. In Chrome, with both releases available in BrowserLab - 9.0 and 10.0), the fonts are very rough.
I used to do some screen printing (posters, T-shirts, etc) and in that industry, this lettering would be said to be badly saw-toothed, that is, the edges of the letters are quite rough like the teeth of a saw.
The Chrome representations of the page is just about identical whether I'm using Firefox (3.6.16) or IE (8) when using BrowserLab. I have both running and if I switch back and forth between the two apps, very little on the page display changes. The fonts are quite rough.
Is this something caused by BrowserLab or is it inherent in Chrome and something I will need to take steps to correct?
I'm wondering if it might not be better to simply install all of the various browsers on one or more of my systems and actually use them to check web pages.
Oh yes, does anyone know why Opera is not one of the browsers supported by BrowserLab?
Another question - is there a way to turn off the right click menu for this forum - the one with "Insert Link, Alignment, etc entries? It really is a pain when I go to use Firefox's normal right click menu. It is a pain.

EDIT -- forgot to say that I am looking at the pages in BrowserLab at the default setting of 100%

    Mark,
    Thanks for the reply.
I'll see what I can find out about getting the text to look better in
Chrome. I may have to detect it and do something CSS wise. If I find
something, I'll let you know and post a message on the forum.
SIDETRACK - I love it when someone posts a question in a forum "Help,
how do I......?" No one comes up with a solution and then the original
person posts "I found a way to do it, thanks anyway" -- AND THEY DON'T
TAKE THE TIME TO TELL EVERYONE JUST HOW THEY DID IT!!!!!!
Back to BrowserLab -- I found BrowserLab while searching to see if
anyone had any warnings about browsers which will not peacefully
co-habit the same system at the same time. I don't have access to a MAC
but my wife has a friend who is a MAC junky and I should be able to
double check things on her system.
I am still thinking that it might be best, as you say, to install as
many browsers as possible (on multiple machines if necessary) for testing.
As to the right click menu, I wasn't clear about what I was talking
about, sorry. It is when I right click in the "edit box" that the forum
right click menu gets in my face. I use Firefox and use its spell
checker and so, most of the time, when I'm in a forum posting something,
I'm using the context menu to get at the spell checker or to copy or
    paste something.
This is a bit of a weird coincident, but I came across something last
night, after I posted the message here, about Firefox and context menus
(right click menus). I happened upon a site where they were trying to
override the context menu to prevent "theft" of images. It worked in
I.E. but not in Firefox. In Firefox I was still seeing the contextual menu.
Doing some research I found that there is an option in Firefox
"dom.event.contextmenu.enabled" which, when set to false, is supposed to
prevent a web site from disabling the context menu (right click menu).
In my Firefox installation, that setting is set to false. That is why
the forum right click menu and Firefox's are getting in each other's way.
I did not look into the forum page in detail but there is obviously some
Javascript (actually I see "JQuery" being used) to try and disable the
context menu within the edit box.
If  I change the "dom.event.contextmenu.enabled" setting to true and
then right click in an edit box on Adobe, Firefox's contextual menu is
    not displayed.
In Firefox, go to the address bar and type about:config
There is a colon ( between about and config.
A message will be displayed saying that making changes may void the
warranty - ha, ha - click the "I'll be careful" button.
In the search box at the top of the displayed page, type in context
A few entries will be shown with context in their names. One is
dom.event.contextmenu.enabled. According to the documentation, if the
value is false, Firefox's contextual menu cannot be disabled. If the
value is true, the contextual menu can be disabled.
Whoever coded the attempt at disabling the contextual menu so that only
the Adobe menu is displayed, is not aware of, or does not have a way to
    get around, the dom.event.contextmenu.enabled setting.
    Go read the thread at
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2191055 for details, I
post as Olhanzilla. I seem to have found a way to disable the contextual
menu regardless of the dom.event.contextmenu.enabled setting
    Again, thanks for the reply.

  • How to remove fonts from i-mac?

Some how I have fonts that take large space on the computer.  I've tried to delete them but the computer won't allow it!  Can you give me any suggestions?

    elaine --
Actually, fonts don't ever take a "large amount of space" on your Mac.  If you have tried to delete fonts, and have gotten an error message that it cannot be completed, then you are trying to delete System Fonts.  Most of the System Fonts cannot be deleted without severe damage to your Mac.  A few can be deleted, but under special circumstances.
Are you getting some kind of warning that your Hard Disk is full, and you're shopping around looking for things to delete?  Please give us more information about your situation, OK?

  • Yosemite font problem in browsers Chrome and Opera

I have several issues since I updated my new Mac Pro to Yosemite.
One really bugging issue is that several websites show an A in a square instead of the correct font. This happens in Chrome and Opera. Does anyone have a solution? I would greatly appreciate the help (and I promise to never update to a brand new Mac OS system again!). Grrr!

  • Larger font for my mac

I have bad eyesight and for this reason I'm trying to make the fonts larger on my mac. I know on windows there is a setting to make things larger, is there a similar setting on mac with the same effect? Sorry, I'm not the most knowledgeable person with computers.

Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays dropping to a lower resolution will increase the overall effective font size.
Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Universal Access can make the whole screen magnify, or switch black on white as well as increase the pointer size.
Subrosasoft's Magnifier is a great way to magnify just a portion of your screen:
