Most of my audiobooks don't appear under audiobooks in genre view

I have ten or so audiobooks in iTunes but for some reason only three of them appear under the genre of Audiobooks in the genre view. I have made sure that all the tracks on all the books are marked with audiobooks in the genre category but this does not seem to make any difference.

There are a number of things that determine whether something appears as an audiobook in my experience. First, Apple only will accept audiobooks in the Audible format (.aa) or the Protected AAC (.m4b). Assuming that your file is the Protected AAC, it could have the wrong file extension. Try changing the file extension on one of your audiobooks to .m4b from .m4a (You may have to play a few seconds of it once you have changed it to get it to work).
If that works, you can try one of Doug's Scripts (www.dougscripts.com) for iTunes called Make Bookmarkable (sic?) which can make the task much easier.
Oh, and if you are running iTunes 8? This is even simpler. Import the audiobook, Get Info on it, go to the Options Tab, and on Media Type change it to Audiobook.
The other problem is perhaps you are importing them incorrectly. Here is a good resource for making audiobooks from either CD Audiobooks (http://aldoblog.com/audiobooks/itunes/importing-audio-cds/) or MP3 CD Audiobooks (http://aldoblog.com/audiobooks/itunes/importing-mp3-cds/)

  • I bought two audiobooks and they don't list under audiobooks in FrontRow

Hello, I bought two audiobooks and they don't list under audiobooks in FrontRow. They list in the iTunes, but when you go to itunes you just see one of them under audiobooks, but you don't see the other under audiobooks, you just see it under artists as a normal song.
Does anybody knows how to solve this? Can I touch any properties of the files to make it list under Audiobooks properly?

You might just have to "get info" on the audiobook. By right clicking on the audiobook title you then click on "get info" then entering all the appropriate information it should list it where you want it.

  • Audiobooks don't appear in itunes

    Hey
The audiobooks I put on my Ipod don't appear on Itunes in the Ipod (they do appear in the library).
Any idea on how this can be fixed? I need to delete some!

In order to see Audiobooks on the Touch you have to click on the More... button on the bottom right after you open Music. Then you'll get a list including Audiobooks, Podcasts, etc. from which you can choose. According to the promotional video for the Touch, you can replace one of the standard icons in Music, e.g., Songs, with Audiobooks or Podcasts so you don't have to click on the More... icon to get to the list.

  • Adobe applications don't appear under "open with"

When I control-click an AI file on my desktop, or some graphic, I do not see any Adobe applications like Illustrator and Photoshop as available options UNLESS those applications are already open. I end up having to dig deep under "Other" everytime to find the applications.  I don't have this problem with other applications.  This began when I installed CS5 recently. How do I get Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.. to appear under "Open With" automatically?  I have already tried to do an "always open with for all files of this type" but that does not get saved after I shut down. It always defaults back to preview.
What is the remedy?  I would think solving the first problem bolded above should solve the second automatically.

    Have a look at this...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions...
    Reset Launch Services...

  • All my songs by certian artists don't appear under their names, but all their songs appear under 'all songs'

So when I search for a specific artist on my phone, say, Whitney Houston, I only see like 3 or 4 songs, but when I go to see all the songs on my iphone, all her other music is there.
I've checked my music on iTunes on my mac and I see that her name is spelled correctly for all songs and none are checked off with "skip when shuffling" or anything like that.
I've noticed the same issue for other artists too. My songs appear under all songs, but not always under their artist name.
What can I do so all my songs appear under their artist name?

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances (for instance I read somewhere that if you have at least two tracks with different album names the rest will appear), however the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
Also if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Setting "Compilations" on your iPod main menu prevents you getting lots of single artist entries when you load an album by various artists.

  • My audiobooks don't appear on Itunes

    I have an ipod touch
My audiobooks used to appear fine in Itunes until I changed computers... Now, I have loads of audiobooks which appear as such on my Ipod Touch but they dont appeal AT ALL on itunes. This means I cannot delete them!
    Any tips/suggestions/directions etc..?
This is quite important as I use my ipod mainly for audiobooks

Do you have the audio books section turned "on" in itunes. From the Preferences>General make sure audio books are checked

  • Songs don't appear under their artist in the 'artists' menu.

I've updated my Ipod to find that when I go into the 'artists' menu to look for my songs they are not all there, some are missing, even though they all defnitley have artist names attached to them in Itunes. I can get to them through the 'songs' menu and 'album' menu, but they do not appear under their artists.
    e.g
I added the 'Blink 182' self titled album and the only songs that appear under the artist 'Blink 182' are 'The Fallen Interlude' and 'Asthenia'. The other songs on the album did not appear. However I can access the other songs seperately through the 'songs' menu and also through the 'album' menu.
But Its really frustrating not being able just to go into 'artists' menu and access all my songs from that artist like I used to be able to do.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Audiobook not showing up under "Audiobooks" on iPod

    Hey Folks,
I downloaded a couple of free audiobooks from iTunes. They didn't automatically sync (or at least I thought they didn't) because I couldn't find them under the "Audiobooks" section of my iPod. So, I manually dragged them over to my iPod icon in iTunes.
Still no where to be found on the iPod - under Audiobooks.
Finally I used the Search function on the iPod, and guess where I found them! Under Music -> Genres -> Mystery !!!
What did I do wrong? There isn't an audiobook "folder" under my iPod icon in iTunes - what should I do to get these books in their rightful place?
Stay warm (if you're in the mid-west or eastern U.S.!)

You need to go into the books and change the Genre to Audiobook. That should move them to the Audiobook file.

  • ITMS audiobook isn't listed under audiobooks

I purchased episode 1 of Journey into Space Operation Luna from the iTunes Store. In iTunes it shows up under audiobooks. I then transfered the audiobook to my ipod. When viewing my iPod contents in iTunes, the book is listed under the audiobooks section, but when I disconect my iPod and navigate to the audiobooks section, it's empty. The only way to listen to the audio book is to go go through music and artist.
Also, something I found strange is that the file extension was m4p not m4b. I've already tried changing the extension to m4b, but it didn't work, and I've now changed it back to m4p.
I find it very strange that iTunes recognizes it as an audiobook, and even categorizes it as such when displaying my iPods content, but it doesn't do so on the iPod iteself.

YES!! I'm having the same issue. Anyone out there with some idea to solve this.
    Thanks

  • Messaging contacts in iPhone5C don't appear under Contacts

I just bought a brand new iPhone 5C - my first iPhone ever. I had a Blackberry before and managed to upload my contacts onto my iMac. They are now nicely sitting " On my iMac" and there is no way I can synch them using Airdrop (won't work between OS and iOS), iCloud (no clue why) or whatever.
So I decided to use old-fashioned handwork: key in my contacts.
I started by saving numbers of people who sent me a text message. This is easy to do and works well within the Messaging app.
But then, if I want to call any of these people, I use the Phone app and click on the little 'contact' icon at the bottom of the keypad - but none of those brand new contacts show up.
When I open Contacts, it is still empty. (yes, I ticked 'show all groups')
The Phone app seems to be connected to this empty Contacts app, whereas the Messaging app seems to be linked to this other mysterious contacts storage 'space'.
I hope I am using the right words.
Interestingly, when in Phone I actually key in the telephone number of one of the people whose number I saved using the messaging app, their name does eventually appear. So why do they not show up as a Contact??
I find this very weird! Where could I possibly find a list of the new contacts that I added manually? The guys at the Apple store raised their eye brows when I showed them and mainly said that there were 'a few issues with iOS7'. Is this one of the issues?
Why have my contacts not been saved under 'Contacts'?
    Does anyone recognise this problem?

    yep, thanks
but this is not an iCloud issue even though that's why I started to manually key in contacts.
It's an issue of Messenger contacts not showing up under Contacts...

  • I selected some photos on my PC for home sharing but they don't appear under Photos on my iPad. What am I doing wrong?

Problem sharing Photos between Windows PC and iPad2.

The home network has to be working, there are settings on the iPad for the network sharing over your home network.
If your trying to move files this way, I'm not sure you can actually move them but you should be able too "SEE" them from the iPad.
Someone will be along to clarify that some more for you, good luck.

  • Minimized messages do not appear under the Window menu

If I minimize a few messages (yellow button) in Mail, then quit Mail and reopen Mail, the minimized messages don't appear under the Window menu. The only way to retrieve them is to go into Expose one at a time and click on them.
This seems like a bug or design flaw.
    Any ideas?

  • Event Appearing Under "Recent" List Isn't Most Recent

In iPhoto '09, I have one event that is appearing under the "Recent" list, even though it is not the most recent event I've added. Nothing I do seems to get rid of this event being displayed under the "Recent" list. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what's going on here?

    Hey Tom,
Question for you: What specifically are you clicking on under "Recent" when you see this event?
If you are clicking on "Last Import" and that keeps showing the same pictures, even though you have imported new and different pictures since then, something is broken.
If the "Last Import" category is what you are clicking on, then I suspect your library may be having issues but lets do some basic troubleshooting.
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer:
    Home > Library > Caches
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iPhoto (There may be more than one. Remove them all.)
Open iPhoto and import a brand new picture. If this now appears under "Last Import" you are done.
If the issue persists follow http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2638 to rebuild your library. Use the last three options in rebuild window check box list.
    Hope that helps.

  • Tracks listed under Audiobooks don't play what is listetd

I get books from Audible. Since upgrading to iTunes 8 now my books list under Audiobooks, but when I go to play them, they don't play the track listed. For example if I have 5 tracks, 3 by Jodi Picoult, 2 by Grisham, 1 by Gary Chapman. The first listed track is the Grisham book, but when I play it Picoult actually plays. I've tried all sorts of erase, restore and playlists, nothing fixes it. I have found a workaround. By going into Genre, I can select the author and play the book I want. I do not have shuffle turned on, everything is set as normal.
I have two iPods. My wife told me about the problem and I tried to fix hers. Then I decided to look at mine and noticed it is doing it, too. So I'm pretty sure this is associated with the latest iTunes update.

I agree that this problem started with the last software update. I've downloaded at least 30+ books from Audible and didn't have this problem until the last software update. The books match the menu titles in iTunes but not on my iPod. I've tried deleting and reinstalling them with no success. Thanks for the genre workaround. It's annoying to have to go on a scavenger hunt for the book I'm listening to, especially when playing over the car stereo while driving.
