Most of my bugs dissappeared after repairing permissions.

I have had many of the bugs I have seen discussed on these forums. I have just finished repairing disk permission (using Disk Warrior) and all of those bugs have disappeared.
I highly recommend repairing permissions to every Logic user.

Nothing? I am now doing a daily backup of my Notes to my HD, but would really like to recover the ones that dissapeared when I did the update. Why do the ones on my Time Machine backup not restore properly? Is anyone else able to restore from a TM backup? Thank you for any information anyone has on this.

This looks like a carbon copy to the message I found after repairing permissions. It happened as well after installing Mac OS X Leopard. I verified my Startup Disk, it checked out ok. The reason why I did these repair and verification moves was because my Toast 8 crashed each time upon trying to start it up. I had no problems with it before, neither with any prior Toast version, down to Toast 2 (I believe, I started with Toast 2). When I installed the Leopard I did an upgrade only, not an "erase and install." I just dreaded to do a zillion re-installations of all applications. I hope somebody comes up with some good suggestions. Or is it possible that this has to do with those typical bugs that seem to be unavoidable at the release of a new system software?

What you are seeing are messages. It's ok.. it won't do any good to repeatedly repair permissions. As long as you see Repair Permissions Complete when it's finished, you are good to go.
Also, if you see any messages that say: SUID: That can be ignored.
Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore
Keep in mind, the only time you need to repair permissions is for troubleshooting.

    Permissions repair complete

It sounds like you used the 10.5.1 update using Software Update.
Download the larger 110MB file of 10.5.1 directly from Apple and this will most likely take care of all but one SUID warning.

The remaining warning is normal and will cause no problems.

  • Colorsync/Display issue after repairing permissions

I'm working on a friends Mac with OS 3.9. She hasn't repaired permissions since Panther came out. Her computer was super slow, so I ran the repair. Display was perfect before the repairs. It completely improved the system but after the reboot the display got ugly. Blazingly bright colors mostly. I tried going into colorsync and changing profiles but to no avail they were all ugly. Then I tried to fix the problem by re-calibrating... no luck. When I reboot the system it comes up the correct colors for a moment then after a few seconds trips back into ugly mode. I tried removing the colorsync profiles and placed them in a folder on the desktop for safe keeping. Rebooted... still no luck. I might not have removed all the right files. Last thing I tried was to repair profiles in the ColorSync app. It fixed problems... but once again, it didn't change the display back to normal before or after the reboot.
Please help me... (She has a Apple Display)

    Welcome To Discussions JCTrick!
Open System Preferences > Displays > Display.
    Adjust the settings there.
If that doesn't help, click on Color.
Checkmark the box for Show profiles for this display only.
Click on the display you wish to adjust, to highlight it.
    Click Calibrate.
Follow the instructions. Sorry, I'm afraid I can't walk you through them, as it's been so long since I've done it! But you can stop the process at any time.
If none of that helps, run the Apple Hardware Test.
    Good Luck!

  • Message after repairing permissions on MB wit Leopard

Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
This message came after I repaired permissions on MB with Leopard - any idea what it means and is it important or not - something to do with Remote Management which was selected at start up - can tis be deleted or removed and what is remote management anyway - I was not aware of it being in the Tiger OS version beofre I upgraded.
    Thanks
    RC

It's normal. Other people are getting it too. Just disregard it for now.

  • Weird Msg after repairing permissions

    hello
    I am on Lion OS,
I repaired permissions and got the following message
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
What is it.? and do I fix it?

You can safely ignore this message. It is accurate, but not a cause for any concern.

  • After repairing permissions, do I need to "verify"?

    Hi folks,
I'm trying to get iDVD working; I keep getting a multiplexing error and the disk ejects when I try to burn a DVD. It was suggested I repair permissions, which I did. However, I was then presented with an option to "verify" the repairs to permissions. Is this a necessary step in repairing permissions?
    Thanks very much.
FYI: When I repaired permissions the first time, I didn't verify and iDVD still won't burn a DVD. I'm just wondering if "verifying" would help.
    Thanks again,
    Vic

How does the particular user account affect burning a DVD?
That suggestion is to check whether there is an error on a particular user account. If it doesn't show up in another account, there is.
now I have about 90 GB of free space
Then we can rule that out!
I'm using Fuji disks, which I've burned to before without any problems
Yep, they are usually trouble free.
I'm even using a short, stand-alone .mov file (exported from FCE4)
That could be a hint. Is it in widescreen?

Is there a sure-fire way for me to check whether there's a problem with my Superdrive?
You could trry cleaning it using a standard CD/DVD lens cleaner using tiny brushes. Or try burning something else (a different project perhaps) to see if that works.
I think it was during something called "Creating Lead-in" or something like that? and says something that includes the words, "...media error"
We may be getting warmer. Could be dud DVD. Try another.
    Post back with results!

  • Why do so many items appear after repair permissions.

Something that has never made sense to me is repair permissions. It is suggested that we repair permissions yet so many items reappear in verify. In my case a verify revealed 119 items of concern with one suid warning. Have run repair a number of times yet 60 items remain including the suid warning- Remote Management ARDAgent.

No biggie. Simplifying matters a bit, Apple's Installer leaves behind a list of items installed. "Repair permissions" goes through the system software and checks it against the list. Where it finds that permissions differ, it resets them to the values in the list. Permissions get changed for various reasons, including poorly programmed software and users who know just enough to get into trouble. Fixing permissions is a step which does not require any expertise and, once started, does not require user interaction. That, and, as CT says, the black magic touch, is probably the reason it is so often recommended, even by tech support, although it probably works only in a small number of cases. There's no point in wasting time about the list of specific fixed permissions in this instance -- if Apple says ignore them, do just that. There's enough other stuff we need to worry about.
Now, as to your real problem --  "Finder doesn't find anything". You'll have to provide more details, but it sounds your problem is not so much with Finder as with Spotlight.

  • MacBook Air won't turn on after repairing permissions

    Hi everyone!
I tried to update the software on my new MacBook Air; the updates started downloading and then it stopped because of a network problem. For some reason, my network wouldn't accept it so I thought *checking the permissions*; I asked for a repair, had the time briefly to see the long list of incompatibilities and then, bof, the Mac turned off, as simply as that. I did everything the Troubleshooting page suggested here:
+Press the control key, the command key, and the power button simultaneously and hold for three seconds to try to restart the computer.+
+Reset the PRAM. After pressing the power button, hold down these keys simultaneously: Command-Option-P-R, until you hear the startup chime at least one additional time after the initial startup chime.+
+On the MacBook Air, press (left) Shift-Control-Option along with the power button once. Note: You must use the keys on the left side of the MacBook Air keyboard.+
the only thing I can say is that at times I could hear the fan turning, but although I pressed the luminosity & sound buttons nothing changed.
    I wonder if it's a software problem.
I am frustrated as ****, especially as in my country I don't trust anybody to get close to it
    Any suggestions pleeeeeeease?
    Thank you!

    Hi Guys,
I'm having the same issue with my MBA. Basically, I press the power button, the SIL light flashes once for about 5 seconds, then goes off, then comes back on and I can hear the fans spin up (I have removed the back cover to confirm this). The screen stays black, the keyboard doesn't show any signs of life and the SIL light just sits there. I've tried the usual SMC, PRAM reset, all to no avail. Thought that maybe it could be a POST or boot ROM failure... Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mark J

  • After Repairing Permissions, "Warning: SUID file. . ."  So, is it a concern

Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
I don't what this means, nor even where to begin to find out. Thoughts.

Hi VALman, a list of repairable items are gone indeed. I used the OS on OCZ-V30GbSSD and the Home Folder from WD-1TbBC before by Leopard with this message then I login to a Guest Account change the Home Folder back to my OS drive with new UUID as well. Then fast user switching OK, new Finder window, run Maintenance software, shut down. Turn on, rename as previous and change back the Home Folder to the WD-Caviar. All this happened when I renamed the drive by adding new icon&name for "fun".
So I don't know if your system description is up to date, mine is Octo- Nehalem.

  • Most of my Notes dissappeared after the latest IOS upgrade.

I located the file in my library, found the missing notes on my Time Machine backup, and restored them, but they don't show up. When I look at them with Quick Look, they appear as (null). Is there any way to get them back? They are synced with iCloud. Oddly, I found one on my phone that does not show up on my iMac. I had to recreate it there, which gave me two copies on my iPhone. Is there any way to at least view these files so I can recreate them?

Nothing? I am now doing a daily backup of my Notes to my HD, but would really like to recover the ones that dissapeared when I did the update. Why do the ones on my Time Machine backup not restore properly? Is anyone else able to restore from a TM backup? Thank you for any information anyone has on this.

  • What does "Repair Permissions"?

A week ago, I have used Disk Utility to check and repair permissions. Today, I had a crash and many permissions seemed to be corrupt (?) or wrong. So I have repaired them. When I repair my car properly, it is OK. But after repairing permissions on my machine, the following check has listed more problems than before.
What hack does this function check and repair?

    HI,
    *"Should I buy a new machine? "*
    Oh no.
A crash can mean there's directory damage. Easy enough to find out and in most cases easy to fix.
Try booting from your install disk and run Disk Utility.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
*"but always crashes when I attach a camera. Recorded Finder crashes are about 20 in three years. Not really much"*
It's possible your camera is not compatible with the Mac OS X, or the drivers need updating.
Seems you've been having issues for awhile...

When I run Disk Utility and Repair Disk permission, there is always something to repair. No matter if I run twice, is this normal?
This is what it says after repair:
    Permissions differ on "System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Deploy.bundle/ Contents/Resources/JavaPluginCocoa.bundle/Contents/Resources/Java/deploy.jar", should be lrwxr-xr-x , they are lrw-r--r-- .

These are "normal" and not errors. They are innocuous and may be ignored. They will recur whenever you repair permissions (which should not be required unless you are having specific permissions problems outside of your Home folder.
