Most of my photo titles have reverted back - what happened?

Last week I noticed that a very large majority of my photo titles had reverted back to the original (I.e. img-4756.jpg).
Any idea of what happened and how it can be fixed would be very very much appreciated.
Much thanks!

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto 08 exclamation points due to referenced photos.  Have reverted back to Managed, trashed problem images, and want to rebuild library or create new library.  However, Originals folder contains aliases of deleted images.

    1. Will broken images in Originals folder hinder making a backup copy, rebuild, or other attempts at repair?  I have Time Machine, never used it, and don't know when when iPhoto became referenced library (due to bad advice)  2. Is it OK to delete broken aliases from the Originals folder (white squares with arrows, jpeg tags, and a Quicktime logo)?  3. Would it make sense to select undamaged images in the Orginals folder for copying to a new library?  I am cleaning up Events and exporting healthy photos from iPhoto before trying to copy the entire iphoto library folder.  Thanks for your help.

What do you mean by "broken images"?
Never delete anything from the Originals folder, ever.
    Try
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • In iTunes I'm having problems changing the "Media Kind" with a number of playlists in the OPTIONS menu from "music" to "audiobook". After going through the steps, the next time I check the items have reverted back to "music". What step am I missing?

In iTunes I'm having problems changing the "Media Kind" in the OPTIONS menu from "Music" to "Audiobook". After going through the steps, the next time I check, the items have reverted back to "Music". What must I do to save it as an "Audiobook"?

After more digging in the Support section here and some Google work, I turned off iTunes Match and lo and behold!  I can change the media kind to Audiobook!  So, it looks like iTunes Match locked the files up somehow and for some reason.
I went into iTunes Store > iTunes Match > "No, Thanks" to disable it on the local PC.

  • Title text reverts back to default. It will not save.

I finish my video and burn it.  Then next time I come back to the project in FCPX the titles are still their but the text of the titles have gone back to the default "Title".  This does not happen on all titles just some. So I have to go through the whole 1.5 hour video and check all the titles and correct them before I can burn it again.  Something is wrong.

I'm sorry it's happening to you as well. Have you called customer support? If so what did they tell you?
    I'm calling 2morrow.
Thanks for making me feel sane again!

  • When connecting I-phone 4 to I-photo, my most recent photos do not automatically show-up in I-photo to be downloaded.  What happened?

When I connect I-phone 4 to MacBook Pro  and bring up I-Photo, my newest photos taken with the I-Phone do not automatically appear.  This is something new that just started happening in the last 2 days.  Usually, everything is transferred and then I download pictures into I-Photo.  Any advice on what happened and what I need to do to get pictures off of I-Phone into I-Photo?

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Connect your iPhone  and check to see if the same problem persists.

  • Please help!! I got my iPhone 4s screen fixed, now in my Photos it shows nothing, although in my memory usage it shows 10.5gb of photos, thats 2000  photos not showing up. What happened?! Where did all my photos go?!

I got my iPhone 4s screen fixed, now in my Photos it shows nothing, although in my memory usage it shows 10.5gb of photos, thats 2000  photos not showing up. What happened?! Where did all my photos go?!

WOOHOO!!! i finaly fixed the problem. Here is what to do:
Chances are if you did the same thing as me you either have
    A) No album names at all for ALL your songs in your library
    or
    B) Have the same name for every album for ALL your songs in your library.
Here is how to fix it (yah it will take a little work but its worth getting your iPod functioning properly).
Unless you dont want to have to go and actualy set al lthe album names for every song here is what you can do:
Go through to iTunes and arange your songs by Artist name. Click the top song for your first artist, hold Shift and click the last song for that same artist (to multi select all the songs for the artist) go into get info and check the Album box. Copy the name of the artist to the Album box and hit ok.
Now when u update your ipod and go into ur Artists section the actual Artist name should show up instead of the song names.
For some reason having the same album name for all your songs messes up the organization of the iPod.
Hope this helps anyone else that is having the same problem

One possible reason is have you synced to your computer's iTunes recently ? If so then it might have replaced the books that were on your iPad with those that are on your computer's iTunes library.
You should be able to re-download them via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app, or via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes and then sync them back to the iPad : re-downloading. If you re-download them directly on your iPad then you may want to copy them to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases, so that you have a backup copy of them and to see if it stops them disappearing from the iPad again when you sync (assuming that was the reason why they disappeard).

Basically, the computer thinks the music is 'lost'. Follow the prompts and try to locate it. It should navigate to the files and redraw the links which should make that pop up go away

  • I go to "clip adjustments" and change the length of a photo. It reverts back to original length. I also shorten it by moving the yellow "box" around a specific clip. It still reverts back to original length. Why?

  • My IPhone can't be switched on nor it can be restarted. I have no idea what happened.

    Hey!
I have some huge issues with my Iphone 4. Before I start describing the problems, I shall describe the situation my Iphone has been in.
I bought my Iphone 4 on Aug 2011 in Singapore and it was stolen a few months later(Nov 2011). Fortunately, the police found my phone and returned it to me last month (July 2012). When I got back my phone, my phone was jail-broke. I managed to restore the phone back to its factory settings by doing a hard reset through Itunes.
And now as I am travelling around USA, my phone broke down. It happened after I snapped a photo up on the mountain and my phone just died. What happened was after snapping a photo, I placed it back in my pocket. I took it out again a few minutes later and the screen was black. I tried restarting my phone and there was no response. I was up on the mountain and there was no contact with any water or liquid. I did not drop my phone either and I was stationary after snapping a photo. Could it be the water vapour from the clouds since I was pretty high up the mountain?
Initially, different thoughts came to my mind. I thought it could be the low temperature and the altitude that could cause my phone to not function temporarily. But when I descend from the mountain, my phone did not work still. So I plugged my Iphone to my charger and it switched on. Then on the screen it said Activation required and asked me to plug my phone to Itunes. So I tried plugging it to my laptop and initially the Apple logo appeared and then it disappeared after a few seconds and then came back on again. It has been doing that whenever I connect my phone to my laptop. FYI, my laptop is a Macbook pro. Then I tried disconnecting my phone from my charger and my laptop, and it cant be switched on at all. As i plugged my phone to the charger, my phone switches on and asked for an Activation and then it will stay on the connect to Itunes Screen. The instant I disconnect the charger from my phone, the screen went black.
My concerns now are, 1) What are the procedures if I were to bring my phone to an Apple repair store in USA since I got my Iphone through a contract plan in Singapore? Is there anything I should be aware of? 2)If my phone was jailbreak and I managed to restore to its factory settings, are there still any remnants of the jailbreak software in my phone that could cause the demise of my phone? 3) What exactly happened to my phone? Is it common for Iphones?
I am travelling down to Philadelphia tomorrow. I hope I can find an Apple Store in the vicinity tomorrow. Very frustrated that my Iphone 4 just broke down on me suddenly. Hope someone could help me out here! Thanks!
    Cheers!!

    Hey!
I have tried holding down the home and power button countless of times. It doesnt respond at all. Plug my phone to a charger and hold down the power button and my phone switched on. But it said Activation Required and said connect to Itunes. As e screen remains on the connect to Itunes screen, I disconnect the charger from my phone and my phone went dead instantly. My battery is full btw. Tried connecting to Itunes through my Macbook Pro but iTunes doesnt detect my device and the apple logo flashes for about a few seconds on my phone and then disappear and then came back on again. My Iphone has been connected to my laptop for about 30 mins and the apple logo has been coming on and off for 30 minutes now and Itunes has not detect my device yet.
    SIGHHH.

  • All of my emails are gone. My accounts are all IMAP. Only one was affected.  I had checked via a browser and my iPhone and the emails are gone. I am able to send/receive current emails, but have no idea what happened.

I have a MBP running Lion 10.7.3 and was importing some photos in to iPhoto '11 9.2.3 and thought I'd look at my mail. I opened it up, iPhoto got quit unexpectedly and the next thing I know my email inbox is empty, except for one "Apple iPod Antitrust email."
My email is on iCloud and I have look at my mail through browsers and my iPhone. The old emails are not there.
I have no idea what to do or where to start looking.
    Help!

    Hello SHEFE
If iTunes did not have anything in it after the update, there is a way to go back to what it was before. The steps are located in the article below.

  • Lost photos after iPhoto library rebuild - what happened?

After noticing that there were albums entitled Recovered photos in my iPhoto library, I deleted those albums. As expected, i got a message that i was not really deleting the originals, just getting rid of such albums. There were about 5 of those "recovered albums": one contained about 30 photos; three had zero and another had over 1000 photos. Subsequent to that, thinking of making this library totally clean, I decided to do a "libraty rebuild" using the option-command rebuild procedure of iphoto. I checked all the options presented for that procedure. To my surprise, when the process was finished I had less events, and less photos. A careful visual check of the display pane of events and photos confirmed that i had lost actual photos. I tried to reclaim those lost photos with another rebuild -- this time using iphoto library manager, but without success. What happened? Is there any way to reclaim those lost photos?
I do have a backup, but would prefer to correct the problem in the original library to avoid having to assemble and clean up duplicates that i had before.
I'm using the newest version of iPhoto: 8.1 and OS X 10.5.8 on a MacBook 2.4 Ghz - 2Gb Ram - 250 GB HD, 42 GB available. My iPhoto library has over 12000 photos

Why these things happen is always difficult to answer. My experience with iPhoto is using it since v1 on with a single library that's upgraded each new versions and migrated from G4 iMac to G5 iMac to Intel iMac and then a second Intel iMac. I load photos in, my wife does and my 12 year old does too.
    And never had a problem.
The database gets corrupted when the app is interrupted when writing to it. The usual causes of this include a crash, a force quit or a lost connection to the Library on an external disk. More rarely minor disk or directory damage might be a cause.
I wondered when I read your report
Subsequent to that, thinking of making this library totally clean, I decided to do a "libraty rebuild" using the option-command rebuild procedure of iphoto. I checked all the options presented for that procedure.
The options presented for that procedure include various items that require the app to read the database file plus this one
Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
+I Wonder+ - I stress, I wonder, no more - if reading to rebuild various thumbnails from a file that is being vacuumed +while at the same time+ is being replaced by a backup is what caused the issue.
If it is, then the Rebuild from Back Up option should be sandboxed and not possible while the other events are going on.
    But that's just a guess.

  • I am getting a message on most of my tunes "cannot find original file"  what happened????

Help!!!  I have most of my iTunes marked with an EXCLAIMATON MARK! and when I click on them it says the original file cannot be found....I did not delete anything yet when I synced my iPad yesterday only 54 songs loaded...........WHAT HAPPENED???  Did I loose all my music...can I get them back...does iTunes have copies of all my songs somewhere that I can retrieve them?????     I have most of them on my iPod nano...can that be synced back to iTunes???     Yikes, HELP!!!

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .
